I'm the VP of Marketing at Doodle Labs. We design and manufacture high performance mesh radios for robotic systems.

Prior to contacting Upqode to get their help on building a new website, we had completed a rebranding exercise to update our 20+ year old brand identity. In addition to giving our website a refreshed look and feel, we wanted to implement some new functionality on the website to make it easier for our site visitors to find the information they are looking for.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We were referred to Upqode by a friend who had successfully used their help on a couple of projects. We had spoken with several other firms, but we liked the initial conversations with Upqode and they seemed to have both the design and technical skills we were looking for the new website.

We worked with Upqode to help design and develop the website. We gave them some starting material, which included our new branding Style Guide, a homepage mock up, a new site architecture with references to our old website (pages that we were converting), and a list of tools we wanted integrated. We discussed this on a kick off call and then Upqode started with designing each of the pages using the reference material.

Once a page was approved for design, they started development. Once we had all of the pages built with dummy content, we were given the website to upload our content. They continued to provide support post-launch to iron out any bugs that were missed in their pre-migration QC.

I worked primarily with Valentyna, our dedicated PM. She was really great at keeping us organized and moving the project along. I highly recommend her for your project, she ensured the success of this project in a timely manner.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

I think Upqode took our brief, reference material, and assets (images, icons, etc) and created some beautifully designed pages with nice little touches, like animated underlines. I appreciated those things.

We used a project management tool called ActiveCollab. It was helpful to see an overview of what was being worked on and what I needed to review/approve. However, it seemed to lack a basic function of easy chat/communication. So we defaulted to emails. I would've preferred an option to communicate via chat, like Teams. We reviewed design files in InVision (which is a great tool), and looked at the developed pages on a staging server.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I'm really happy with how the website turned out. 

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We had a few things where specific functionality were missed in our developed pages because they weren't explicitly discussed and Upqode uses the flat design files for the first round of approval. The design files don't have any functionality so we didn't have a way of providing that feedback proactively.

For example, the color of a link when the mouser hovers over it. While we were able to resolve everything, there were some back and forth on whether these kinds of changes were within scope or needed a change request (additional $) - this was kind of the only level of issue.

We selected UPQODE for their expertise in Webflow.

Our ask of the UPQODE team was to develop a 5-page Webflow marketing website for our client When. Shortly after kicking off our project, we were assigned a project manager and project management team who walked us through their process. They also showed us their project management tool of choice called Active Collab, where they planned to share all website previews and gather our feedback. Working in Active Collab was very successful for our team, and we were assured that we could come to them with any questions about using the tool since we were new to using it.

The UPQODE team handled the development of each page one by one and sent the pages to us for review as they completed development. Reviewing one page at a time was very digestible for our busy team. We prefer this method of reviewing far more than receiving the website back all at once and needing to do an extensive review. The UPQODE team also was very organized in asking for the minor site details they’d need early on in development, such as information about final URLs and the destinations for each button and link on the site.

We had one main project management point of contact, Sofia S. However, she had a team of about three other project management associates who assisted with our project. I believe there was also a team of developers assigned to our project.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We were very pleased with the outcome of our project with the UPQODE team. Not only was the project developed very quickly, but our minimal feedback was also addressed promptly. Overall, this was a painless development process. Our client loved the site and had no additional feedback for the team once we showed them the final website.

As mentioned, their project management tool of choice was Active Collab. The development and updates were addressed quickly, and we were delighted to review one page at a time compared to reviewing an entire website at once. The entire project management team was very attentive to our needs but made it so that we didn't need much more than they were already providing as part of their general process.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The most impressive thing about UPQODE's team is their efficiency and confidence in leading a project. They were very prepared and gave us an end result that was exactly what we expected with minimal feedback needed to achieve it.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I can't think of anything that the team could have done better!

We were happy with the design and the final outcome, the website.

Everything went according to plan. Communication was very good. The project manager from Upqode had a great spirit of service, was always willing to chat, and listened to our needs. We used Invision, Activecollab, and Google Chat.

We had a relatively simple and somewhat dated website. As we are growing quickly and looking to expand our team and company we needed a new site that we felt proud to have.

We had UPQODE recommended to us through another sister company of ours. We wanted a team that would help us with direction/style and be easy to work with.

We met for a series of virtual discussions on the project scope and presented some of our initial ideas. Then I completed a survey containing all the relevant information and outlining what exactly we were looking for. Design phase consisted of an online 'mock-up' that I could comment on and make changes, this was very useful. Finally the new site was developed and uploaded to an online editing/hosting service.

We worked with 2 or 3 members of the UPQODE team, although I am sure there were more on the back end. It was good having 2 main points of contact and leaving the rest to them.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We are very pleased with how the new and improved website tuned out. Although it took longer than we had anticipated (that was our fault not UPQODES), the final result is something we are really happy with.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The tea at UPQODE were very easy t work with and good at replying quickly. At many times we were the weak link in not driving the project forward. The use of slack and other online feedback tools was very helpful.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I was impressed at how easily they managed to implement our changes without much to go on.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Nothing major springs to mind, they were a great team to work with. Sometimes the time zone difference meant meetings were early but that wasn't a major problem.

I am the CEO of Honesty in Politics. We are a groundbreaking website that grades news articles on how factual and biased they are and also host any politicians who are honest. The politicians create a profile where they will solidify their stances on political issues before the voter casts their ballot. This will inevitably allow our system to correct course by electing more and more honest politicians instead of the scum we have in offices now.

We needed a website developed within a small budget, I am starting this from my savings account and would rather stay away from investors(except silent ones) since share holders and investors are more interested in profit, rather than integrity. UPQODE helped build my site to an agreeable level with the small amount I had.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I spoke to several companies before landing on UPQODE. Other companies made me feel uneasy, one even saying they needed a large deposit before a plan would even be drawn up. UPQODE did not give off any vibes that made my spidey sense go off.

I'm not the best with technology, I remember a introduction, then I was given to a team of developers. Terms were agreed to and work began. They used WordPress to develop the site, that's all I really know.

I mainly spoke to a project manager, although there was a website that acted as an intermediary, which allowed me to ask questions to the development team. You can directly tag the person you need to speak too instead of the project manager if you know it will go to that person anyway(i.e. SEO). Also if the manager is off, this allows you to get issues answered without having to email someone new.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Growth is slow, this has nothing to do with the dev team, it's just a difficult area to gather support as each side believes their politicians are already honest so why should they join our site.

I spoke about it before. The intermediary site allowed us to communicate flawlessly. The only thing that slowed us was the fact the team was in Europe and I am in New York. So sometimes they would send a message and I wouldn't see it for many hours and vice versa. When the message was available, they were answered promptly.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

UPQODE showed me how to update my own site with ease. Since I've never done anything like this, it was reassuring to know that I could do it myself.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

The only issue was that the dev team was from another country. THEY STILL DID AN AMAZING JOB!!! It would have been a bit more smooth however, if they knew the American political system though and the time zones were closer. Still 10/10

BIWIN Technology is a large manufacturer of flash storage technology in China. We have about 800 employees, and I am the channels and alliance manager in the marketing department.

What challenge were you trying to address with UPQODE?

We weren’t that well-known outside of China, so we wanted to break out of that market and introduce ourselves to Europe and America. Our goal was to show that we were thought leaders in our industry and not just a small-scale manufacturer, and we engaged UPQODE to help us out.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We first presented UPQODE with a rough idea of what we did and didn’t like about our existing websites. They helped us shape an entirely new design that not only took those ideas into consideration but also took into account our values and product ranges. We made sure that what we ended up with was more like a business card than an e-commerce site, and when we liked the direction that the design was headed, we moved into the development phase.

Our existing site was poorly developed, so we rebuilt everything from the ground up. UPQODE recognized that our local coding in China was not very user-friendly, so they opted to develop our new website on WordPress. They created an administrative dashboard, where we could manage the content ourselves, and added a bunch of other extensions. 

Apart from development and design, they also helped us figure out what things to put in place for a future SEO and Google Ads campaign. 

What is the team composition?

I’m not sure how many people were working in the background, but I interacted with about eight people from the team. We had a direct contact, several technical specialists, a designer, and even an SEO consultant who helped us out in places.

How did you come to work with UPQODE?

I went to Clutch and exhaustively looked into various companies’ reviews. I was very pleased with the platform’s recommendations and was able to shortlist about eight companies. After interviewing all eight providers, I ultimately chose to work with UPQODE. 

How much have you invested with them?

The initial agreement was for slightly over $25,000. We probably invested a bit more here and there but not an exorbitant amount.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started in November 2021, and we concluded around April 2022. We’ve since entered a service agreement where they provide extra services and conduct necessary updates.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We were anxious to get the look right, but UPQODE worked with us to form the image that we wanted to present. Our management team and stakeholders are very pleased with the final look of the site — we all feel that it distinguishes us from competitors in China and gives the appearance of a professional Western website.

We don’t have any metrics at the moment, but we do think that website is critical to the next step in our marketing and can serve as the core of all of our future initiatives. We can now introduce ourselves properly to European and North American markets. It gives s a whole other level of competitive edge.

How did UPQODE perform from a project management standpoint?

UPQODE delivered the product on time and within our budget. They continually brought our attention to what needed to be done and asked for our feedback at every stage of development. We never felt like they resisted our ideas and suggestions. It was a pleasant cooperation. 

We liked that they took the lead in terms of project management. They used an automated system to keep us on track along with ActiveCollab, which provided a level of transparency to our communications. Apart from emails, we also had a weekly call with the project manager where we would sync up, check in on our progress, and forward any change requests.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The thing I liked about UPQODE is that they tried to get me to where I wanted to go. Unlike with other companies, there was no pushback from them if I wanted something done differently. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

There’s nothing they could’ve done better. We are very happy with how they worked with us.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

It helps to have an idea of what your ultimate goal is. I think the reason we were so successful with UPQODE was that we knew what kind of website we wanted from the get-go.

We had a kick off call to begin the project following which a majority of communication was done via email and Google Docs. The team led by Olha was amazing in prompt responses and letting us know project deliverables and progress at all points throughout. We supplied a majority of the design files from one of our key vendors and in turn UPQODE created a wordpress design built to these specifics. They assisted with questions such as future localization plans as well as advised on pagnation etc.

None that I could think off - Olha was amazing for keeping up to speed with emails and queries. Perhaps a slack or messaging channel may help future projects with communication (we know how packed peoples email inboxes can get these days and sometimes our team members did no see recieved mails) - but we had no lapses in communication for this project, just a thought for the future.

The website is certainly easier to navigate and has a much better appearance. It is too soon after launch to be able to provide any measurable data.

Overall this project was very successful and they followed extremely close to our design files we provided. There were a few minor inconsistencies on the website with text size/spacing/case, but were always willing to fix when I brought to their attention.

Their web designers developed a new visual identity. They provided us with a complete backend solution. They created a unique and creative web design that was just what we were looking for.
