So, when we've faced a necessity to hire a development team, Denis was one of the first people I've talked to, thanks to the expertise of the UKAD team and many interesting cases. As he promised to start delivery in a week, we made a deal.

We shared design, all documentation describing the concept, goals and so on. Then the UKAD team developed a whole solution including UI/UX, performed Quality Assurance and support.

They also suggested some technologies to optimize terms and spends which were successfully utilized. As soon as it was an addition to the existing online store, developed to improve buyers' engagement, this project required regular demos to keep the concept.

The manager from UKAD's side established our working process in the most effective way in which we had strong enough communication but never wasted time on vain meetings.

There was a project manager, who also acted as an architect, with several developers. We also attracted a UI/UX designer and QA engineers.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Sadly, I can't share any numbers. But the delivery UKAD performed played a great impact on the whole project. Finally, our end customer was happy!

We had well-established project management on the UKAD side. They offered easy communication, regular demos, transparent pricing, and other best practices were included.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

It's expertise. UKAD provides customers access to really skilled developers with an interesting stack. There are not too many companies utilizing such technologies.

We hired them to rewrite our expense scanner app using React Native as well as expand its functionality.

We wanted to take advantage of the React Native platform and enable our customers to categorize documents from the app.

Not only are their prices fair, but their CTO is highly talented and reliable.

Describe the project in detail.

We provided the wireframes for the app, which was to serve as the foundation for future expansions as well as a base and pipeline for new React Native applications.

The app required the following capabilities: a welcome message at login; a “remember login” option to make repeat logins easy; the use of real-time or previously captured images from a file system to prepare an expense; and the ability to include additional expense details then categorize the expense as either free text completed by the user or a predetermined category pulled from our core application. The expense app would then forward a consolidated document and additional information to the core platform for further action.

In addition to the CTO, we worked with several other skilled developers from UKAD. We also provided a sideline designer and developer to assist as needed.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

UKAD delivered a flawless app that our customers love. 

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The UKAD team is highly structured and responsive. Regular updates and demos, as well as accurately estimated tasks and direct communication, helped us feel in control of the project and strengthened our confidence and trust in them.

They offered good, proactive suggestions for the challenges we faced and provided great input when identifying issues and alternatives. They also integrated seamlessly into our operations and felt like a part of our team instead of a third-party vendor.

This is a very strong and talented company. The owners, who are honest and straight-forward, know their business and their craft exceptionally well.

UKAD developed a document management and sales enablement platform that runs on MS Azure and with three websites connected to the backend. There is an admin site, a website for users to view content, and an internal site for our team. For the sites and backend, our team provided the designs and requirements. An iOS application also connects to the platform. Their team worked on it before we had available resources in-house. UKAD updates the platform and provides maintenance when needed.

What was the team composition?

Initially, we worked with an iOS developer, two backend developers, a frontend developer, and a project manager. We scaled down when the initial project was completed, but we add members when features need to be implemented.

The product has attracted paying customers for years. We created a separate company to focus on this product because of its popularity.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Project management was a joint effort. Sometimes I would leave everything to UKAD and receive weekly reports and demos. Other times, I was actively involved in discussions with the developers through Skype.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

All of their employees exhibit a sense of responsibility that shows their dedication to delivering the best product. The core product was the same quality we would’ve expected from an in-house developer. If a serious issue arose, their team responded immediately. UKAD was open to suggestions in all aspects of the project.

I’m the VP of customer business at Infopulse Ukraine. We provide software development services worldwide from multiple locations in Ukraine and other countries. Arrive at the engagement being able to tell them what your goals are. If you’re clear in explaining your requirements, UKAD can more effectively achieve it. For example, if you want a blue webpage, tell them the specific shade of blue you need, and they’ll be able to do it.

We hired UKAD to help us develop a learning management system to be used as a training portal by one of my clients.

What was the scope of their involvement?

UKAD has helped us to develop the platform using Umbraco. Because we used Umbraco we decided to host the platform in the cloud using Azure, which is something we haven’t done before but are very happy with.

I work directly with various project managers on their team, particularly a business analyst project manager who helps us communicate with the rest of the team. I can also speak with any of the senior developers if need be, and I occasionally speak with the CEO about detailed technical requirements.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The client will initially have 60 users accessing the platform, but UKAD has successfully built it to expand and eventually host around 150 users within a year. These may sound like small numbers, but for an internal learning platform they are actually quite significant.

How did UKAD perform from a project management standpoint?

Their communication has been excellent. Any time we call, email, or Skype them, they not only reply quickly, but they offer informative and complete responses. Aside from those tools we also use Trello to manage the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their communication and technical skills have been very impressive. They are able to address any issues we have, and they have a broad range of skills that allow them to handle any and all aspects of the project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I think that they could do a slightly better job at predicting the time it will take to complete certain things. To be fair, it is very difficult to correctly predict how long software development will take, but if they could improve that it would be very helpful.

Any advice for potential customers?

It is important to have well defined goals and requirements. UKAD is very good at helping with business analysis, but I think that someone with a brand new project really needs to know that they are trying to accomplish. This will help with time and cost estimates.

I’m the founder of a social dining and experience platform. It’s like a B&B (bed and breakfast), but instead of sleeping at someone’s house, you’re eating or drinking at someone’s house. It’s like your own home bar or restaurant where you invite new strangers to your home to share a meal and get to know people. It is accessible via the website or with the iOS or Android app.

What challenge were you trying to address with UKAD?

Initially, we needed an iOS developer.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The iOS app creates the event. When you need to do a listing, you create a title, a description, the number of people you can accommodate, upload pictures, use geolocation to determine the geo-position of the event, and then insert that into our backend database. One developer integrated almost the whole stack but was leaving.

Then I wanted to bring one frontend and one backend developer to support us with regular maintenance tasks. They fix bugs or implement minor new features and basic tasks that need to be done. We used ReactJS, NodeJS, and Angular.

What is the team composition?

I only talked to Denis [CEO, UKAD], the founder. He provided developers as I needed them. We had frontend developers, iOS developers, and a designer.

How did you come to work with UKAD?

I did a Google search to find developers in Ukraine. I had good experience with Ukrainian developers. I got in contact with Denis and he helped me to get a proper iOS developer.

I’ve spent $10,000.

We started working together in July 2016 and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They developed the app as requested. The developer was supportive and helped us anytime he could. They even worked weekends when we had an emergency. They were responsive and helpful.

How did UKAD perform from a project management standpoint?

Denis and I use Skype. I communicate with new team members via Asana, Slack, and email. It sometimes takes time to get a response, but the frontend and backend developers aren’t project-based; they work on demand.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The designer and the iOS developer did a great job supporting us. They were helpful with urgent issues that occurred in our app. Even if it was a bug, the iOS developer was always available and reactive. They took care of their responsibilities.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We have two frontend developers who aren’t the perfect fit for us. We expected them to have more skills. They aren’t as good as we need them to be. They could improve by verifying developers’ skill sets before assigning them to a project. They shouldn’t assign only junior skilled developers to a project.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Test how skillful the developer is by first giving them an exercise and see how fast they can perform it and find a solution. This can be helpful in choosing the developer.
