After a previous company shut down our side of the business to focus on their core offering, we asked Three29 to help us basically restart our business. This included a brand new website with logo creation. On the website, it was a landing page and several other pages that needed to communicate well together to assist us in bringing over clients that followed us from a previous company that was no longer offering our service.

They met all stated timelines for the entire project, even though we were late in getting some information to them and made some last minute changes.

Nick was extremely patient, helpful, and responsive. We were not able to meet the original project schedule but Nick made a plan to get the project back on track and worked hard so all parties were aligned and hitting deadlines. 

Nick always gave advanced notice if he was going to be out of the office and was incredibly quick to reply all other times. He overly communicated, sent reminders, and was patient in explaining the process or anything new.

I’m the founder of CreateHQ, a social subscription platform where creators can come online and get paid for their content.

What challenge were you trying to address with Three29?

I hired them for web development and design. Our previous team wasn’t that good, and we wanted Three29 to take our existing scenario and turn it around. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Three29 started by doing a code review of my previous team’s work. Then, we had an in-person meeting to ensure we were on the same page about the objectives and the timeline. From there, I gave Three29 my login credentials to ensure they had access to everything they needed. 

The team proposed a solution to develop a script we rebranded and made ours. From there, they designed our website using InVision and developed it using WordPress and PHP. 

In the previous team’s work, the website had a blank canvas for login without much functionality beyond that. Three29 did a complete redesign of the landing page and created all the key functionalities, including sending messages, commenting, liking, and engaging. 

On the website, users can sign up and create a profile, and if they want to become a creator, they can verify themselves by filling out a form, scanning their IDs, and making a sign that contains their user name and date. I can verify each creator and enable them to upload their content and monetize it. 

For example, a fitness instructor can upload a workout video series to build biceps in five weeks. They can upload those videos to their profile, set a price, and subscribers can sign up for that instructor’s channel. 

Creators can also monetize their work through products. For example, a fitness instructor can post shaker cups or pre-workout protein powders. The site can also serve to network with others in the creator’s same niche. For example, the same fitness instructor located in Sacramento can collaborate with another instructor in Miami. 

The site is already finished. Currently, Three29 is moving everything from the staging area to the live server, and we’re set to launch next Monday. 

What is the team composition?

Kevin (President & Founder) was my initial point of contact, Justin (Director of Engineering) was our lead developer, and I also worked with Nicholas (Project Manager). Nicholas would relay all communication with the rest of the team from Three29. 

How did you come to work with Three29?

I found them through Google in May 2021. I initially contacted Kevin, who warned me about potential snags I might run into with other teams. He made me comfortable calling him back if I needed help, which was what happened. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $35,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from December 2022–June 2023. From December 2022–March 2023, they set up the staging site, and from March–June 2023, they made updates, and we did QA. The project is finished; Three29 is going through their final review, and the site will launch next Monday.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I can’t express enough how thankful I am to the Three29 team. The new landing page design looked beautiful, and the key functionality was there. Comparing the previous teams’ work with what we have now, it’s a night and day difference. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the product Three29 delivered. 

Kevin and his team were amazing and helpful in our transition and ensured everything was up to par with what we talked about. He understood my frustrations with the previous team. I’m thankful to Kevin, Justin, and Nicholas for seeing this project through to the exact point I envisioned.

How did Three29 perform from a project management standpoint?

Nicholas was absolutely amazing. He was in constant communication with me and explained each step. If I didn’t understand anything from the initial email, he called and walked me through everything. 

We had almost daily check-ins, even on weekends, if needed. I mostly communicated with them through Gmail. I also had all the team’s numbers and could call any of them to handle any issue. They did everything I needed, enacted any changes within a day, and always went above and beyond to make sure I knew when things were done.

Three29 gave me the $35,000 budget, and they stuck to that. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Three29’s communication skills and ability to make me feel comfortable were their biggest attributes. They reassured me every step of the way, which was most important for me, coming from working with two teams who couldn’t complete the job and where I was taken advantage of. Kevin ensured that wouldn’t happen; he was upfront and honest about costs. 

Moreover, the team’s respect level and professionalism distinguished them from other providers. They made sure they relayed any issues, and if I had any questions, they explained everything. They exceeded my experience with any other company I’ve talked to on every level. 

With the previous team, I had to break down everything I wanted and how I envisioned it, whereas with Three29, it was more of a back-and-forth where they also proposed ideas. I didn’t know all their capabilities, so they told me what they could do, and their skill level was outstanding.

I can’t pinpoint any areas for improvement; Three29 hit it on all cylinders.

• We meet weekly to iterate on the wireframe design and guide the next phase. Each week we review the progress of the design evolution. In each meeting, 329 came prepared to demonstrate the progress they had made in the previous week, listen to our feedback and align the design while taking on new requirements. Our progress was measured in newly constructed features and deliverables. We've come to rely on Three29 as an extension of our internal team.

We wanted a website that reflects who we are, which required a complete overhaul and update. Our goal is to be client-facing and have them get to know us when they visit the site.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Three29 first got a sense of where we wanted to head with everything. We then had review processes in place as they worked from a broad perspective down to the details. We used this process to determine how to present our brand in a way that reflects who we are. 

They are using our new branding as a standard for the website. We believe WordPress and Java have been used for the development. Three29 designed the website's appearance and organization regarding how the information is presented. We use the site as an online portfolio and an introduction to who we are. The first deliverable was the landing page; the other deliverable has been getting the website up and running. 

Three29 is also doing some copy and helping us with graphic materials for our rebrand. They are also providing us with maintenance services.

Our team is ecstatic with Three29’s work, and we feel like they listen to us and give us what we want and more. Their quality of work is high because they’re experts at what they do. Three29’s guidance and insight along the way has been really invaluable.

They have done very well with project management and keep us on track.  We typically communicate through Zoom calls.

We are very happy and have been impressed with their ability to dig into the project. We haven’t worked with a lot of other teams, but we feel like they know their craft and are good at communicating and connecting with us. Three29 has tried to get us what we are looking for and utilizes all of their skills to do that. 

The team is very hands-on and engaged in the project. Every project has challenges, but we’ve been impressed with their willingness to be a part of those challenges and a part of our team. We had some challenges in the beginning with consistency in the team, but they've never missed a beat and keep us on track, which we’ve been really impressed with.

Be very direct with your feedback, and don’t worry about hurting feelings. Three29 told us they wanted us to be straightforward and give them honest feedback. They do really well with direct feedback, like any design company, because there is no ego.

What challenge were you trying to address with Dedicated Designs?

We needed someone to develop a new website for us. We required a new film office website to collect location data because we work within Hollywood and industry location experts.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Dedicated Designs designed and developed our film office website from scratch. Additionally, they created a database that included all of the different location photos. Before starting this project, their team saw our current website, and we gave them detailed specifications about what we needed from the new one. The initial process was collaborative and helped us define how to move forward with the development process.

Usually, two teammates from Dedicated Designs were in our regular meetings, but we had access to other teammates, too.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We launched the website on February 14, 2023, with a campaign related to Valentine’s Day and received great and very positive feedback from the industry and our partners. Dedicated Designs added new videos to our website in places we hadn’t anticipated. These videos were very attractive, driving the industry’s attention.

Additionally, Dedicated Designs implemented an easier way for us to upload data into the website's database. That was a pleasant surprise because we didn’t expect that process to be so easy.

How did Dedicated Designs perform from a project management standpoint?

Dedicated Designs delivered on time and within budget — everything was as expected. Throughout the project, we had to learn how each other communicated. We had one hiccup around communication, but we quickly realized that we weren’t speaking the same language. Still, Dedicated Designs was able to fix the issue fast and work around the misunderstanding.

Dedicated Designs brought new and creative ideas to our project.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Three29 has been our marketing partner for over a decade. They manage our digital advertising and create campaigns on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Three29 has also helped us manage hiring campaigns and created ad campaigns on three hiring platforms, including CareerBuilder.

Moreover, Three29 assists us with all our graphic design needs, including online and offline advertisements and social media posts. They’ve designed custom graphics that we’ve used in our website and marketing materials. We create the advertisements collaboratively with Three29’s design team and our direction. They’ve also helped us redefine our brand’s visual identity. 

Three29 created our company’s website nine years ago, and they’re currently working on updating it. The site’s new version will be launched in April 2023, and Three29 has designed it using Figma and Adobe Creative Suite. I have access to see the site mapping and design flow. Three29 is developing the new site on WordPress. 

Lastly, Three29 is rebuilding our mobile application. We wanted to build a customized app for our loyalty base, where customers can obtain additional benefits, such as jumping in line on their reservation once they hit certain tiers. Our loyalty provider for table management didn’t communicate with us, so we had to look for our own solution, and Three29 has provided it. They manage all the integrations with our loyalty partners and third-party partners. Three29 has also helped with our SEO strategy in the past, but not currently. 

What is the team composition?

My main point of contact with Three29 have been Kevin (President & Founder) and Max (Department Lead, Project Management). We’ve worked with other former employees from Three29, around 6–7 teammates in total. 

How did you come to work with Three29?

Before Kevin started Three29, he was working with another organization that was our agency at that time. He was our project manager, and when he left that company to start Three29, we followed him since he had a stronger relationship with him than with the agency. 

How much have you invested with them?

For the mobile app and web development project, we’ve invested $50,000. In our overall relationship with Three29, we’ve invested around $1 million–$5 million. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with Three29 in 2007, although I wasn’t in my current position. I came to my position in June 2013, and the relationship with Three29 was handed over to me by my predecessor.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Three29 has been a wonderful partner. They’ve answered all our requests and delivered what we need. I’d recommend them to other business partners in the community, specifically in the restaurant industry, since that’s their focus area. 

In our past marketing campaigns, we’ve seen the value Three29 brings. They’ve met our expectations.

How did Three29 perform from a project management standpoint?

Three29 stays on budget, and when the budget has changed is because I’ve gone outside of the original scope. We communicate through phone calls and emails. For meetings, we use Google Meet and meet in-person meetings since their office is close to our restaurant. We use Asana for project management. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m most impressed with Three29’s transparency. They’re open to feedback, listen attentively to our requests, and make the required adjustments. Our open and transparent relationship has allowed us to achieve our goals and work efficiently.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Three29’s biggest challenge is finding a consistent and good quality staff other than Max and Kevin. I don’t blame them since that’s just the climate we’re in at the moment. However, Three29’s staff change sometimes can hinder the project's momentum. We’ve worked through this issue, and Three29 prevents any possible problem before it happens.

I’m the chief communications officer at Material Innovation Initiative, a think tank working on advancing the development of next-gen materials. We primarily conduct research, share knowledge, and drive connections.

What challenge were you trying to address with Dedicated Designs?

When we started, we needed a website, so we created one ourselves. However, we quickly realized that the site didn’t meet our demands. We needed something more complex to help us disseminate our work research and share knowledge with our target audiences. We needed a website design company to help us with the process.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Dedicated Designs created our website from scratch. The previous one was hosted on Wix, and they built the new one on WordPress and created many new pages. They also helped us majorly with the design. 

Once they came on board, Dedicated Designs set up their working process in four stages. In the first stage, we discussed the website design and structure they’d create for us. They had a detailed marketing and branding exercise with brand storytelling exercises to help us define our target audiences. They also told us clearly what was the best way to build our website, so it became clear the kind of pages we wanted.

In the second stage, they laid down the whole structure. Then, the team created all the content, uploaded it, and looked at the design. Lastly, we did some troubleshooting with the website, and they created tutorials for our team to understand how the website worked so we could operate it independently.

Since research was crucial for us, Dedicated Designs created an innovator database, which was a complete online repository of different innovators. They also worked on search functionality and UX design and created FAQs, reports, and events pages.

We primarily worked with Courtney (Director of Web Design). She was in charge of project and account management, so she actively engaged with our team. We also worked with Markus (web Developer), who took care of all the UX/UI design and complex coding.

They were already working with us when I joined the company. Dedicated Designs was helping us with site management, and since their track record was excellent, we hired them to redesign the website.

The website is nice and seamless to navigate through, and the functionality is absolutely wonderful. Moreover, our website traffic increased by 77% once the site was launched.

How did Dedicated Designs perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management was fantastic. They managed every request we had for them and even had some hours left after they completed all the tasks. We didn’t have any problems working with Dedicated Designs. They were very reassuring, and it was nice to have them.

We created a detailed spreadsheet on Google Sheets. We also used Miro boards to understand the website structure and design and give them our opinion. Aside from that, we had weekly Zoom calls to discuss progress.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Dedicated Designs was passionate about marketing-related projects and exceedingly talented in their work. The team was thorough and experienced. We’d definitely hire Dedicated Designs again for any website-related work.

I’m the CEO and president of Learnport Inc., an online training integrator. We specialize in government training and do a lot of work for the State of California.

We hired them to help us create a custom UI for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, one of our largest clients.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Three29 has helped us design and develop a UI for our end client; we’ve created the product collaboratively. They’ve used Adobe tools for the design. Initially, we met with Three29’s designer and our end client to ensure we were all on the same page. 

The product is a WordPress page that integrates with an elaborate learning management system (LMS) for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The LMS serves a diverse audience and has over 12 million training records we manage for the client. 

Since many of these training courses are mandatory and learners take them yearly, we have a new list of courses every year. Three29 helps us make the necessary changes to the UI. Every year, users have a new set of training they need to take when, in many cases, they haven’t finished the previous year’s training. As a result, we have a data visualization gap; we want to ensure the data is accurate, so Three29 is helping us work on a solution. 

Currently, they provide maintenance. We use an API for updates but aim to develop a solution with Three29 to move away from the API and update the product on our own. Next, Three29 will help us replicate the UI for the client’s healthcare division. The project will have different recourses and requirements.

We’ve worked with several different folks from Three29. Our current team has 6–7 members, from project managers to designers. We’ll also work with a backend coder soon.

We started working with Three29 around January 2013, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Three29 is great to work with. One of the challenges we run into is that most of our target users don't normally use computers. Three29 has helped us build a very user-friendly and highly intuitive UI to address that challenge. Although we've had bugs, it's never Three29's fault, and we address them together, knocking them down one at a time. 

Overall, we've had a really good experience with the design process and getting the product up and running. Moreover, we like the product's colors and the way it looks. I respect Three29's leadership and am very happy to be working with them. They meet and constantly strive to exceed our expectations — they're very conscientious. 

How did Three29 perform from a project management standpoint?

Since putting a budget on a moving target is challenging, we usually go over budget. However, I'm not unhappy because we get what we pay for with Three29. 

We use Smartsheet for project management, and Three29 works with me. The tool works really well because we have a combination of email and text, and it's useful for proofing content. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Three29's biggest strength is their leadership. Moreover, they're accessible and flexible. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their weakness is personnel turnover, which affects all of us. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be as prepared with your solution as possible — it makes things better for everyone. The more focused you are and the more insight you have, the better your engagement will go. 

For example, we don't have many employees, so we primarily work with contractors. Even so, we can manage over 12 million records for just one customer, 25,000–40,000 pieces of training a month, and three LMSs with over 112,000 online learning options. Although our contractors face challenges, our engagement with Three29 is a success because of our preparedness.
