We needed to migrate our website from the 3dcart/Shift4Shop platform to Shopify. We also wanted to ensure the website was modern and that we didn’t lose any SEO or PPC traffic due to the migration.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

TheGenieLab fully migrated our website to Shopify with all the orders, categories, customers, products, and other items fully integrated and migrated. We tracked our website traffic, SEO, and sales after the migration. Our SEO rankings increased, but our sales decreased after 30 days because we stopped running the migration promotion offered to customers.

How did TheGenieLab perform from a project management standpoint?

TheGenieLab delivered on time and was very patient with us because we caused delays in the migration due to operational issues on our end. We communicated via virtual meetings, emails, and messaging apps.

What did you find most impressive about them?

TheGenieLab recommended the right tools and solutions and addressed all our concerns. The team also patiently worked with us for a long time because of the various operational issues we dealt with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Working with TheGenieLab was a good experience, though we felt there was room for improvement in proactive design recommendations and pre-launch quality assurance testing. With a bit more initiative in those areas, the overall process could have been even smoother.

 Build a Shopify Plus site that incorporated many of the existing capabilities of our existing BigCommerce site plus incorporated additional capabilities unique to Shopify. Migrate existing product, web content, customer and sales transaction data from BigCommerce site to new Shopify site. Go live with new Shopify site on or before September 30, 2025.

A comprehensive project plan was detailed, tracked and monitored via a Monday project board. During the course of the project, weekly update meetings were held between the key client contacts and the various Genie Lab project leads.

All project deliverables were documented and tracked via a Monday project board. Tasks were brokend down into 7-10 day "sprints" and adjusted as needed. The Genie Lab team was extremely responsive (Monday Board, WhatsApp, Google Meet, email and phone) both requesting and responding to issues and questions as they arose.

In addition to being highly technically competent and subject matter experts, TheGenieLab's team excels at project management and overall communication. However, the single most impressive aspect of The Genie Lab is their commitment to the success of our project and their strong desire to build something that would enhance our overall business. They didn't just build us a new website, they helped us position our business for future growth and success.

Are there any areas for improvement or something TheGenieLab could have done differently?

I would not change a thing with how The Genie Lab managed this project.

We need new products created in Veeqo to be created in Vend to include the elds listed above and any updates to products in Veeqo to update Vend accordingly. Orders Currently, orders created in Vend get created in Veeqo however, all items are in an allocated, fullled and shipped status in Veeqo whether or not the product is in stock. 

We need out-of-stock items to show in Veeqo as unallocated and not shipped. The process you have established for this as outlined here below will work for us. 

Process:

• Delete the allocation in Veeqo for orders that come into Veeqo from Vend which include items that show a negative qty available. 
• Create the new allocation for stock items and add non-stock items with 0 qty.
• Create the shipment 
• Manually update qty on product as it will be allocated using a purchase order 
• Create a new allocation for non stock items 
• Create a new shipment 
• Create a tie between PO’s and orders (all orders in Veeqo, not just orders originating in Vend) 
• Check the PO number and if it is the same as an order number then allocate all of the stock to that order. 
• If the PO number does not match an order number then look at notes section for list of order numbers to allocate to. Example note Order#|SKU#|QTY, Order#|SKU#|QTY, etc. The stock would allocate to the order in the corresponding order of the notes. 

Parked Orders in Vend: We need parked orders in Vend to pass to Veeqo as Payment Required status. Currently this happens however the only items that pass to the order in Veeqo are the items which are added to the order prior to parking the order. If you add or remove any items from the order in Vend after it has been parked then the changes do not pass to Veeqo. We need all changes to pass to Veeqo. 

Returns/Exchanges: We need returns and exchanges processed in Vend to transfer into and be recorded properly in Veeqo. Currently Veeqo does not support exchanges therefore we may need to look at adding notes of some sort to the order in Veeqo that the exchange took place in Vend and also adjust inventory in Veeqo according to the exchange.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The GenieLab team was able to deliver. The outcome was not exact to the scope however it was very close and it in the end worked out great for us. The hurdles that we experience were with the software companies and not GenieLab. They did an awesome job working with the software companies and coming up with viable solutions to ultimately achieve our end goal. It has vastly reduced errors and manual processes for our team.

The GenieLab team was great! They always did what they said and were very timely! They understood our project and end goal very well and were able to offer additional input to help us really dial things in.

We hired TGL to overhaul our look and feel, as well as handling the day to day maintenance. 3 previous so called "website/IT" companies FAILED to produce the desired results. We needed a company with the talent, and professionalism to achieve OUR vision!

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Revamping and execution of the CTRL'S assets, as well as the cohesive interaction between TGL was critical. TGL fulfilled ALL of the requisite solutions and tasks put before them.

I discussed at length with TGL about our needs and continued support for our IT. The project entailed multiple facets across many platforms as well as the expert advice provided by their team. The interaction and responses where always timely and accurate.

Our company worked with various team members. During our onboarding thru completion, I interacted with not only some of the team members BUT also with the CEO/OWNER. Speaking as an owner to owner I felt a complete sense of satisfaction that was never achieved with any prior firm.

I’m the manager of a retail wine shop with a growing online presence.

What challenge were you trying to address with THEGENIELAB LLC?

They’re building our website. The core site was already built on Shopify, so they provided heavy customization.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

There are a lot of customer-facing features driven by APIs. Our connections allows customers to choose local delivery options that tie into another service we use. Additionally, customers can look up where their local FedEx office is to designate it as the drop-off point for their shipment.

Because we sell alcohol, we can’t always ship directly to someone’s house depending on the state they live in; we have to ship it to an ABC store. We have a tool that helps people find those locations and auto-fills the addresses.

What is the team composition?

The work was mostly done by two people: Umair (Senior Developer) and Michael (Business Implementation Manager). They both helped quite a lot, and Michael even did some things at the last minute when I needed it done quickly.

How did you come to work with THEGENIELAB LLC?

I interviewed a few different firms and had actually done work with a couple of others. THEGENIELAB came through Shopify’s suggestion network as a recommended developer. After trying to work with 2–3 companies, I realized they weren’t giving me the response time I needed. THEGENIELAB had great reviews and I liked the sound of what they were doing from my interview with them.

We’ve spent around $10,000–$15,000.

We’ve been working together since June 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Everything is user-friendly. THEGENIELAB has allowed us to be able to sell wine and get into an entire state that we were having trouble accessing. It would be difficult to put a number on their value because a lot of what they’re doing is removing barriers to checkout. It’s hard to know how many people wouldn’t have checked out if they process had been different.

How did THEGENIELAB LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re great at pushing back when an idea isn’t as good as it could be about the workflow or the customer checkout flow. They’re good at going back and forth with me about doing things another way.

We communicate over a combination of emails and phone calls and video screen sharing.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I had to explain some very complicated things to Michael as I was driving, and we figured it all out. They’re good about working quickly when there’s an emergency.

Their effectiveness, speed, and politeness make them very easy to deal with, especially on a personal level. They know how to communicate and are very understanding.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I’d like them to have a little bit better of understanding overall of why they’re doing what they’re doing. Alcohol laws are a difficult concept, as they’re not always clear, and I even have trouble understanding the sometimes.   

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure you’re on top of responding to your emails. If there is a weakness in our relationship, it’s me not responding to my emails. I have to be on my feet a lot, so days will go by when I’m not in front of my computer.

Their friendliness and patience were impressive. Oftentimes working with people in different time zones, and especially software developers, can be difficult to schedule. The language of development is so specialized that it's easy to feel "out of the loop." We never felt that way with Genie Lab.

Nothing at all. Genie lab was great. Our team wasn't as easy to work with!

We are nearly 2 years into using the site they built for us, and they still respond to our support requests. If there is something i can't fix myself in Shopify, i ask them and they get it done, usually within 1 day and do not bill for this. I did not expect this when i hired them, and i'm beyond impressed with their support. Its the reason i chose to write this review.

I embarked on the journey of creating my own Shopify website which was a bit of a failure to say the least. I then employed 2 companies via Shopify referral.

1. I could not communicate with and the results were devastating.
2. The other company was a referral (not through Shopify), and the main designer disappeared. I invested so much into the project by this time that I was ready to give up.

I searched thoroughly through Shopify list of design & seo companies and received an immediate response from Michael Tarr & Fredy. I was able to communicate my needs for creating an e-commerce site that was not only for consumers but for B2B. The Genie Lab understood my website needs and went to work. Redesign is far more challenging than creating an entire site.

1. Michael Tarr enlisted his expert team to immediately contact me and understand my needs within 1 week.
2. Fouzia and Umair communicated via Zoom to completely understand my need to hide pricing for my wholesale customer.
3. I was part of the design creation, the aesthetic was very important and Fouzia handled the design creating the perfect brand image I wanted to display.
4. The technical aspect of the site was created by Umair & Fouzia, they made it simple for me to upload images and worked with correct apps for variations. The site was prepared and a full training was done for me to understand in less than a month. I then received help with the SEO Guru Christian Behier. He was enlisted to put my start-up on the ever changing internet. The clock never ticked for Christian, he gave me as much time as necessary to understand SEO and together we started to improve the site by creating perfectly written blogs.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Once the redesigned was launched, my existing customers found shopping the site to be far more user friendly. The reorders started to pour in since what I am selling was far more understandable to them. With the help of Christian, the new sales from SEO increased over 70%.

During the initial design stage of the site, Mike, Fouzia & Umair communicated to me every week to show me updates and new functions. I not only was updated via email, Zoom, but long phone conversations which were understandable (dumbed down) for someone without any experience in web design.

The B2B App was created which allowed me to personally vet any business looking to shop my brand. The hair industry is inundated with hair suppliers and this feature allowed me to gain trust with other hair salons. All was done within 1 month! Christian Behier was assigned to create SEO perfection, this gentleman understand SEO and has an impressive resume working with huge companies such as Dell Computers.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The team works so well together and the communication amongst each other is flawless. Although my project is not their largest, I was treated as if it was. The consistent communication was most impressive. Christian Behier (SEO/Marketing) spent countless hours researching my brand and industry - he literally educated himself in all aspects of the industry.

He also shared his immense knowledge with me which was like a car mechanic trying to explain fixing a car to a lay person, but he did it. Once my blogging (which he fixed every word if needed) finally hit search engines, my brand excelled, as well as sales. Christian is a word master! He also understand the importance of social media and helped me to create engaging content..

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

There is not much that needed improvement since the communication was strong. It is important to vet other Shopify experts to not get into the trap of working with companies that take your money and dissappear.
