I searched online through Shopify partners and evaluated which partners could be a good fit the company and has a similar work ethic to my liking. In addition, really understood the vision and where the company is going.

The outcome was not exact to the scope however it was very close and it in the end worked out great for us. The hurdles that we experience were with the software companies and not GenieLab. We hired TGL to overhaul our look and feel, as well as handling the day to day maintenance. 3 previous so called "website/IT" companies FAILED to produce the desired results. We needed a company with the talent, and professionalism to achieve OUR vision!

Revamping and execution of the CTRL'S assets, as well as the cohesive interaction between TGL was critical. TGL fulfilled ALL of the requisite solutions and tasks put before them.

I discussed at length with TGL about our needs and continued support for our IT. The project entailed multiple facets across many platforms as well as the expert advice provided by their team. The interaction and responses where always timely and accurate.

They’re building our website. The core site was already built on Shopify, so they provided heavy customization.

What was the scope of their involvement?

There are a lot of customer-facing features driven by APIs. Our connections allows customers to choose local delivery options that tie into another service we use. Additionally, customers can look up where their local FedEx office is to designate it as the drop-off point for their shipment.

Because we sell alcohol, we can’t always ship directly to someone’s house depending on the state they live in; we have to ship it to an ABC store. We have a tool that helps people find those locations and auto-fills the addresses.

What is the team composition?

The work was mostly done by two people: Umair (Senior Developer) and Michael (Business Implementation Manager). They both helped quite a lot, and Michael even did some things at the last minute when I needed it done quickly.

How did you come to work with THEGENIELAB LLC?

I interviewed a few different firms and had actually done work with a couple of others. THEGENIELAB came through Shopify’s suggestion network as a recommended developer. After trying to work with 2–3 companies, I realized they weren’t giving me the response time I needed. THEGENIELAB had great reviews and I liked the sound of what they were doing from my interview with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Everything is user-friendly. THEGENIELAB has allowed us to be able to sell wine and get into an entire state that we were having trouble accessing. It would be difficult to put a number on their value because a lot of what they’re doing is removing barriers to checkout. It’s hard to know how many people wouldn’t have checked out if they process had been different.

How did THEGENIELAB LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re great at pushing back when an idea isn’t as good as it could be about the workflow or the customer checkout flow. They’re good at going back and forth with me about doing things another way.

We communicate over a combination of emails and phone calls and video screen sharing.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I had to explain some very complicated things to Michael as I was driving, and we figured it all out. They’re good about working quickly when there’s an emergency.

Their effectiveness, speed, and politeness make them very easy to deal with, especially on a personal level. They know how to communicate and are very understanding.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I’d like them to have a little bit better of understanding overall of why they’re doing what they’re doing. Alcohol laws are a difficult concept, as they’re not always clear, and I even have trouble understanding the sometimes.   

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure you’re on top of responding to your emails. If there is a weakness in our relationship, it’s me not responding to my emails. I have to be on my feet a lot, so days will go by when I’m not in front of my computer.

Their friendliness and patience were impressive. Oftentimes working with people in different time zones, and especially software developers, can be difficult to schedule. The language of development is so specialized that it's easy to feel "out of the loop." We never felt that way with Genie Lab.

Nothing at all. Genie lab was great. Our team wasn't as easy to work with!

The site was prepared and a full training was done for me to understand in less than a month. I then received help with the SEO Guru Christian Behier. He was enlisted to put my start-up on the ever changing internet. The hair industry is inundated with hair suppliers and this feature allowed me to gain trust with other hair salons. All was done within 1 month! Christian Behier was assigned to create SEO perfection, this gentleman understand SEO and has an impressive resume working with huge companies such as Dell Computers.

The team works so well together and the communication amongst each other is flawless. Although my project is not their largest, I was treated as if it was. The consistent communication was most impressive. Christian Behier (SEO/Marketing) spent countless hours researching my brand and industry - he literally educated himself in all aspects of the industry.

He also shared his immense knowledge with me which was like a car mechanic trying to explain fixing a car to a lay person, but he did it. Once my blogging (which he fixed every word if needed) finally hit search engines, my brand excelled, as well as sales. Christian is a word master! He also understand the importance of social media and helped me to create engaging content..

There is not much that needed improvement since the communication was strong. It is important to vet other Shopify experts to not get into the trap of working with companies that take your money and dissappear.
