""The team has produced the best work for us.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I’m the head of web and design at Boston University School of Public Health, a graduate school for public health.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge? We needed help with website design and development.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Temper And Forge has created three websites for us. One was built completely from scratch, another was 90% from scratch, with 90% of the content already there. The team has been responsible for both the design and development of these websites. Currently, the team is developing a third website for us.Temper And Forge has used WordPress to build the websites since we were familiar with it. One of our sites required a shopping cart and class registration, so the team worked with another third party to integrate those features into the site. For the second website, Temper And Forge had to work with our university to pull data from our main website to generate content for the second one.Temper And Forge has introduced us to new things. For example, during the design and discovery process of the first website I worked on, the team used Figma. We’ve used that tool consistently. Additionally, Temper And Forge has provided maintenance and support. What is the team composition?Nate (Founder & CEO) has worked with us directly throughout the entire process. We’ve also worked closely with Connor (Lead Designer) in conjunction with Jesse (Developer). Additionally, we’ve worked with Jackson (Designer) and James (Developer). The two most consistent members of the team are Nate and Connor. How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?Someone from our organization vetted Temper And Forge, though they're no longer with the school. They inquired about and interviewed multiple companies before choosing Temper And Forge. What is the status of this engagement? We started working with Temper And Forge in May 2023, and our engagement is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? We’ve seen an increase in our email sign-ups and website engagement. Overall, Temper And Forge’s work has exceeded our expectations. I was not there at the very beginning of the project. I came in after the discovery phase had started. After I came in, we actually shifted gears and switched our priority website. Temper And Forge was amazing and moved right along with us — they were as flexible as possible. How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint? We’ve had ever-changing goals, and Temper And Forge has been flexible. The team has delivered work early and kept us on time by scheduling regular check-in meetings. Temper And Forge works with our timeline and lets us know they’re there to support us. Our third website is set to launch in November 2025, but they're working with us because we're hoping to launch it a few days earlier to align with one of our professional conferences. They've been amazing and constantly deliver. We communicate via email, and Temper And Forge has brought in Figma, which is a great way to engage with the designs and provide feedback. When it comes to the development, they share their work as they go along and talk to us personally. They ask us what we need, where we're at, and what they need to do to continue meeting their goals. Temper And Forge has done an exceptional job; the team is composed of strategic thinkers who understand our limitations and expectations. What did you find most impressive about them?I've worked at my organization for close to 12 years and worked with over 12 external vendors, maybe more. Temper And Forge has been the easiest to work with and the most knowledgeable about their work. The team has produced the best work for us. Moreover, it's great that we have Nate's leadership. They work as a close-knit team, and it's seamless. Nate and Connor have been amazing. Although they have many teammates in the background, they work so seamlessly and pick up every ball, helping us along the way.Are there any areas they could improve?I don’t think there’s anything they can improve on. They’re head and shoulders above the rest.Do you have any advice for potential customers?Hold up your end of the bargain, be there for the meetings, and be clear about your goals. Temper And Forge works with you, not just for you. The team is there to support your needs when you have changes or limitations. Temper And Forge is extremely flexible, so communicate with them. Let them know your needs because Temper And Forge is there to meet them.

Director of Marketing & Communications, Utile
- Industry: Utilities

- Review Type: Phone Interview
- Verified

**The Review** — Mar 26, 2026

**Feedback Summary**: After launching the new website, the client saw an increase in organic search traffic and users spending more time on their pages. Temper And Forge was communicative, accommodating, and willing to take on any challenge. The team also provided significant engagement and education.
""They were always up for a challenge. If we had modifications, they would definitely meet and exceed those.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I’m the director of marketing and communications at Utile, an architecture and urban design and planning firm. I oversee all promotional activity, including digital promotion, award presence, and social media. I'm also responsible for responding to RFPs and getting new work.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge? We had a website and branding that were done over 10 years ago. They were good for 10 years ago, but they had gotten a little stale. Our website was a little clunky and needed a visual refresh. We also needed something that could handle the scale at which we’d grown.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Temper And Forge helped us launch our new website. We did our branding refresh in-house with our director of graphic design. We fed Temper And Forge the new branding update. During the discovery phase, they asked some questions about our primary goals. Our website didn’t act as a sales funnel. It was more to showcase our portfolio. Temper And Forge restated that to us, and we helped shape that vision and goal together. Using our branding refreshed style guide, they developed three different options for how to execute that on the website and established some parameters.Temper And Forge used Figma to design the website and WordPress to develop it. The main objective was to make it easier to navigate and to create a cleaner, simpler UX.What is the team composition? Our primary point person was Nate, who is the founder and project lead. Connor (Director of Design) and James (Director of Engineering) were the other main points of contact. Several designers supported Connor, and one or two developers supported James. How did you come to work with Temper And Forge? We were looking around for web developers and designers with experience. Temper And Forge came up because we’d been doing some exploratory work. We generally liked their style. We interviewed several potential developers and designers. Temper And Forge stood out because they were able to answer a lot of questions. They seemed to understand how an architecture and design firm operates, including what is important and our goals. We found Temper And Forge through Google. We were looking for local firms in the Boston area. We developed a pretty extensive list and got proposals from several firms. Temper And Forge won when we met with them one-on-one. We had some really good conversations. They seemed incredibly professional and genuinely interested in this project. Moreover, although they weren't especially big, they had a deep bench so that they could meet any timeline we gave them. They could create a website quickly with the different quality and cost implications, or they could handle a long process and walk us through the domino effect of decisions on the scope and schedule. I liked that they were transparent and communicative about that. We’d explored a lot of different architecture and design firm websites and poked around to see what they did. Temper And Forge didn’t have any architecture firm websites in their portfolio, but they seemed to get what we were asking for.How much have you invested with them? The original contract was around $87,000. We ended up going with some additional services along the way, so the investment was under $100,000 but over $87,000.What is the status of this engagement? We initially engaged Temper And Forge in November 2024. The website launched in September 2025, so the engagement lasted just under a year.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? We had been doing some Google Analytics on the current site. Before the new site launch and after the new site launch, we got a lot more viewers from organic searches. Folks stayed on our pages longer. We made sure to have SEO optimization for awards and press. Temper And Forge met and exceeded our expectations. For a layperson without web development or design experience, Temper And Forge was able to articulate the constraints of some of the things we were asking for. If we asked for some fields to look a certain way, they were able to explain and help us understand the constraints. There was a lot of engagement and education along the way. As a design firm, we really appreciated that. How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?Temper And Forge was excellent at project management. They had a very clear Gantt chart and timeline. They never missed a deadline. If anything, we held them up with our review periods. We were very accommodating. We had some revisions we wanted to make post-launch. Temper And Forge was very quick with those fast follows. They used monday.com, and we were able to track things from our design phases in the Gantt chart. We used it for content migration, QA, QC, and auditing. We shared a lot of stuff over Google Drive. That was our preference because that’s how our firm operates. We used it for file sharing. We communicated via email. We had virtual Google Meet check-ins. There was always a very clear agenda of what we were going over, what Temper And Forge was presenting, and what they were handing off to us. The rhythm of those meetings increased during certain periods and slowed down post-launch. We’re still meeting with them today for on-call and advisory services to troubleshoot and answer questions. What did you find most impressive about them?Temper And Forge’s willingness to dive into some of the design challenges was really impressive. They didn’t shy away. They were always very communicative. If we wanted to see a few iterations of one component of the website, they would do it.If there were additional services, they were able to articulate that clearly. It wasn’t just sending us a bill for it. They walked us through it before they moved forward with that work. They all really cared in their respective fields. Connor really cared about the design and getting it right. James was exceptional at making sure he understood the needs for backend usability and what was important to include for us.They were always up for a challenge. If we had modifications, they would definitely meet and exceed those. Are there any areas they could improve? In hindsight, no. They were great. Perhaps the discovery phase could have been faster. We could have hit the ground running a little bit faster, but that didn't feel like that at the time. Thus, I don’t have any real notes on ways to improve.Do you have any advice for potential customers?Know what you want. Know the purpose of the work and the desired outcome. Know the reason why you want a new website. Get clarity on that. For me, I was the messenger from our leadership team. The leadership team wasn’t very involved. Putting in the work to ensure you’re getting the right feedback from all the stakeholders is important.Take Temper And Forge’s advice seriously. Don’t be afraid to push the envelope or ask questions.

They’re responsive, communicative, and mindful of deadlines, ensuring a seamless workflow. Their ability to prioritize the project and deliver a high-quality product within budget stands out.
"“Their team has delivered what we’ve asked for and more.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I’m the director of communications for the Institute for Systems Biology, a nonprofit biotech research organization based in Seattle. Our 14 faculty members study various topics, including cancer, wellness, aging, environmental factors, and issues. We’re made up of computational biologists and lab workers. We were the first institute devoted to systems biology, and we remain at the forefront of it.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge? We needed to revamp our website.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Temper And Forge helped us rethink our website; they recoded, updated, and renovated our code base into something contemporary and industry-standard. We had an old code base that wasn’t built on the Gutenberg platform, and they got us up to speed on that. They ended up creating a new website for us. My colleague was a designer, and she worked with Temper And Forge to create a contemporary website with far more functionality and capabilities than we had ever had. For context, we had a linear, vertical experience block, but Temper And Forge helped us create a hero feature on the top of our website. During that process, they ensured we had an accessible website. They made sure that even though we offered much more dynamic and visually interesting content, it was delivered in a faster way than what we had before. We also had a lot of scientific information on our page, and they helped make that content accessible. They helped with the taxonomy and the site architecture to make sense. Our team helped them with the keywords. They took their best stab at our keywords from our old website, and we helped refine that.At present, Temper And Forge is maintaining the website. They make sure that all plug-ins are kept up to date. If there are any security vulnerabilities, they monitor them and keep us safe and secure. We’re signing an additional scope of work with them to do a v2 project for this website upgrade. We’ve had some financial constraints on our side, so we’ve earmarked 6–8 other things that we want to do, and we’re going to do them in 2025. Temper And Forge also helps with SEO.What is the team composition? We work with about 5–6 teammates from Temper And Forge. Our main point of contact is Nate. We also work with a designer and a web developer. How did you come to work with Temper And Forge? We did a robust web search and came up with a list of 6–8 firms. After looking through their websites and reviews, we narrowed that down to about three teams. The conversation with Temper And Forge had a night-and-day difference from the other two. They understood what we wanted, and their communication, responsiveness, and professionalism checked all the boxes. How much have you invested with them? Our investment has been around $40,000. What is the status of this engagement? The engagement started in October 2023, and it’s ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? We’re at or above the level of web usage. We’ve met our previous goals and even increased our numbers as far as the number of people visiting our website and time on site are concerned. All of those are positive.I’ve had a pretty long career in digital communications, and it’s always a concern to ensure that when we make changes, it’s a net positive — this engagement has certainly been like that. I’ve also received positive feedback from everyone in our organization and website visitors. Overall, the dynamism of the new website is evident, and people like that. I’ve received dozens and dozens of comments, emails, and in-person comments from people who love the new site. How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?Temper And Forge’s project management is excellent. They’re mindful of our timeframe. We’re a small two-person team, so we’re pulled in many directions. Nate is fantastic. They use monday.com, and they’re great at laying out timelines. If there’s a lag in the production schedule, it’s on our end, not theirs. He’s great at alerting us when that’s happening and jumping on phone calls or Zoom calls to ensure we have what we need and can keep the whole process moving seamlessly. Typically, we communicate through email. When things get complex, we do Zoom calls or virtual calls. What did you find most impressive about them?I’ve done a number of website redesigns during my career, and what I find refreshing about Temper And Forge is the ease of communication and their responsiveness. That’s not always typical. They give us what feels like white-glove service. They prioritize us, and it feels like we’re their only client, even though we know that isn’t the case. That’s appreciated. Moreover, I’m still in awe of the final product. Their team has delivered what we’ve asked for and more. On top of that, Temper And Forge has honored our financial constraints and found ways to work with us that fit our budget. That doesn’t always happen. Are there any areas they could improve? No, there aren’t any. Temper And Forge is local to us, and it’s nice to have them in the same time zone. They work remotely around the country, but you couldn’t tell. It feels like a local company working with a local organization like us.Do you have any advice for potential customers?Know exactly what you want to do. If you go to them with a clear idea of what you want, they’ll help you refine your plan and ensure you get what you want. Be adept with some sort of project management, and make sure you understand that process and have the time to meet deadlines.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?I engaged Temper And Forge’s services for SEO assistance and general website repairs and corrections.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Temper And Forge offers SEO services for our company. The team is currently making tweaks, repairs, and adjustments to my website, which is based on Webflow. Whenever I need new content, a new page, or something added to my blog page, they do that.Temper And Forge started by fixing errors and problems with the website’s structure from a searchability, content, and metadata standpoint. They’ve audited the site and fixed everything that wasn't working or was incorrect. Then, Temper And Forge made various modifications and added new content to help drive more activity on our site. They’ve also partnered with me to advise me on what I was already doing to offer advice. Now, Temper And Forge is helping us restructure some of our pages for optimal searchability. We work closely with the team on keyword research, and they’re also working on backlinks, which is a continual process. What is the team composition?I work with Nate and Sam.How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?I found them through a Google search. I was looking for companies that knew my area and worked on SEO. I was looking for companies based in Massachusetts, and it turned out Temper And Forge used to be here, but now they're on the West Coast. I also wanted to make sure they were familiar with and had expertise with Webflow, which is the platform my site is on. I didn’t want to work with a WordPress company. How much have you invested with them? We’ve spent around $8,000.What is the status of this engagement? We started working together in February 2024, and our relationship is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? We’ve had a higher click rate and visibility, meaning our website has higher impressions. Our rankings have gone up, and the total inspection jobs we’ve completed have increased over the last year. Our market share has increased when other companies like ours are going out of business and losing work. Temper And Forge has a dashboard that we consult at every meeting to see where we’ve gone and how we’re doing. Based on those metrics, it’s clear that they’ve helped my business dramatically. They’ve completely changed my view of SEO services from my previous experience. How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?Temper And Forge’s project management is great. They use monday.com to organize work, and we have a monthly standing Google Meet for progress meetings. We communicate extensively by email. Nate is available anytime by phone if I need him. He’s made it clear that he’s available to deal with any emergencies that may arise.Overall, the team is incredibly responsive and immediately answers my concerns and questions. They're very accomplished and come to the table with many new ideas. What did you find most impressive about them?I’ve worked with two other SEO companies in the past, so I have experience with them. SEO companies generally have smoke and mirrors; they say they’ll do things for you, but you don’t know what they’re really doing. When I met with Nate for the first time, it was clear that Temper And Forge had a completely different approach. They talked about specific things they could do right away. They had ideas and specific projects in mind, and Nate was extremely good at communicating those.I’ve been impressed with Temper And Forge because they always do everything they say they will do. We had technical issues changing over some of the tracking and hosting at the beginning. Temper And Forge made sure everything was perfect right out of the gate. They’re incredibly communicative, easy to work with, kind, and results-oriented, which is great. Are there any areas they could improve?I don’t have much to say because they’re so great to work with. They’re really good at communicating and very professional.Do you have any advice for potential customers?Ask Temper And Forge what big projects they can do and what they’ll be doing ongoing. This way, you can allocate your budget appropriately. We've worked on special projects that were above our monthly maintenance fee. **The Review** — Mar 6, 2024

**Feedback Summary**: Temper And Forge's work has led to a successful website launch, as the client has received very positive feedback on how professional and easy to navigate their new website is. The team has delivered on time and on budget, showing excellent responsiveness, guidance, and knowledge of best practices.
""They've been able to bring my vision to reality while guiding me through the process, making it fairly seamless.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I'm the CEO and founder of Incisive Dental Network. We support dentists in their procurement efforts.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge? We hired Temper And Forge to develop our website.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Temper And Forge has created our website from scratch, including a membership login area. Initially, they laid everything out for me, detailing timelines, requirements from our side, and requirements from their side, which was very helpful. We spent a couple of hours on calls talking about my company, who we were, and what our mission was. From there we talked through how the website layout needed to be and which areas it needed to include. That was how we scoped the website design out. After discussing the website design and requirements, Temper And Forge gave me a sense of the different copywriting the website needed to include. I worked with someone they referred me to on the copywriting and got a first draft. Then, Temper And Forge went into the website design process and came back with three different options for the look and feel. They asked for feedback on what I liked and disliked about each of them.I chose the different elements I liked about the three proposals, which gave Temper And Forge a template of the color scheme and design style I was looking for. From there, they continued refining the website design. There were three iterations of the design layout. During this process, I was able to use different tools that they provided to add comments and give feedback. The website design process ultimately led Temper And Forge to do the full website development to make it functional. After that, we had a round of QA, where I was able to point out more changes that needed to be made before the website's launch.Currently, Temper And Forge helps us with maintenance and hosting, which also includes support in helping me choose content to steer me in the right direction. The technology stack used includes WordPress (I actually have a WP Engine account) and Figma. What is the team composition?I've worked with Nathan (Founder & Owner), who works closely with me, Connor (Lead Designer), and Jesse (Lead Developer). There have also been others involved in the project, but I haven't worked with them as much. How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?I found them during a Google search. I was looking for firms in the Boston area so that I could work with someone local, and I found Temper And Forge. How much have you invested with them? We've spent around $30,000.What is the status of this engagement?I first contacted Nathan in May 2023, and we signed the contract in June 2023. Temper And Forge launched our website in February 2024, but our engagement is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?Ultimately, our collaboration has led to a successful website launch right on time. I've received feedback a number of times on how professional our website looks and how easy it is to navigate. Thanks to Temper And Forge, we've gone from a DIY webpage to a professional site. How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?Temper And Forge has delivered the project within budget and on time. Honestly, they could have delivered a bit faster, but I was the bottleneck more than they were. Overall, I'm very pleased with their work. They're incredibly thorough and responsive, especially for someone who hasn't done website development before. From my perspective, this has been a very easy process. As for collaboration tools, we've used monday.com for project management and Pastel for providing feedback. Moreover, we've primarily communicated via email. Still, whenever we need it, we just jump on a quick meeting, which has been great. Their team has been really responsive in that regard. What did you find most impressive about them? The thing that impresses me the most about Temper And Forge is that they've been able to bring my vision to reality while guiding me through the process, making it fairly seamless. For someone who hasn't done website development before, like me, no part of the project has felt overwhelming. They've been very good at breaking the project into actionable parts. Moreover, whenever I've been stuck, they've jumped in to ensure I had the support needed. They've basically made the project very simple to get through.Additionally, Temper And Forge's entire team has been fantastic. Connor has been great at providing guidance on best practices; Nathan has acted as a mentor to the entire team, providing great direction on what looks good and what will work well; and Jesse has been phenomenal regarding responsiveness and getting the actual development done. Overall, their whole team has been phenomenal to work with. Are there any areas they could improve?I can't think of anything Temper And Forge could improve on.Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?Temper And Forge takes a lot of pride in what they do, which is a good thing. Still, that means that their timelines might be a bit longer than what someone could experience with other service providers, but this is caused because they truly do their work from scratch to match exactly what the client is asking for.If you're looking for a high-quality partner who will listen to what you want and make it come to reality, they're a great partner to work with. Ask a lot of questions because they have a ton of knowledge regarding best practices. As the project has progressed, I've realized that I should be leaning on them more and more. Therefore, you should lay out your vision and let them run with it, constantly pushing them to provide feedback and challenging them. They're very creative problem-solvers, so don't try to dictate the project's path, but do try to dictate the outcome because they're capable of getting you there.

""I was impressed by Temper And Forge's investment in our company's mission and values.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I’m the director of marketing at a company that distributes specialty chemicals.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge? We hired Temper and Forge to rebuild our website.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Temper And Forge rebuilt our website from scratch and changed our hosting provider. The first step was evaluating how our product catalog would be structured since we have over 200 different products; this was the biggest reason we went forward with Temper And Forge. The team took the approach of structuring the catalog and building out a new feature for customers and prospective customers, which was like an e-commerce feature where products could be added to a cart and quoted by our sales team.We initially had a very big discovery session to understand our sales process and funnel to ensure that the solutions would work for our desired customers. Temper And Forge utilized Octopus.do to create the site's map and Figma and Pastel for design. The team built the site on WordPress. What is the team composition? We worked with Nate (Founder & Owner), Connor (Lead UI/UX Designer), Jesse (Lead Developer), Scott (Developer), and Katelyn (Account Manager). How did you come to work with Temper And Forge? We contacted Temper And Forge through a referral from a marketing agency we know. Although they hadn't previously worked with Temper And Forge, we took a chance with them by reading their reviews and speaking to their references. We worked closely through different rounds of interviews and the proposal stage. Temper And Forge wasn’t the least expensive, but we liked what they presented in the proposal and their out-of-the-box ideas compared to other teams we interviewed. How much have you invested with them?We spent around $50,000 on this project. What is the status of this engagement? We engaged Temper And Forge from September 2022–November 2023.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?Temper And Forge successfully launched our new website, and our clients and suppliers reported a more streamlined UX. We saw an increase in web traffic and retention rates on our product data sheets, showing that the new calculator built by Temper And Forge was accurate and that customers were using it. The team delivered excellent and high-quality work. How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?Temper And Forge stayed on budget and only extended deadlines on one occasion, which we approved. This was based on the massive product database our company had. We didn't stick to the original deadlines, but the team adapted timelines based on immediate findings during discovery sessions. Overall, Temper And Forge stayed on time. We communicated via video calls, email, and Google Chat. I never waited more than 24 hours for a response from the team. What did you find most impressive about them?I was impressed by Temper And Forge's investment in our company's mission and values. Their company culture set them apart, and Temper And Forge seemed to genuinely care about our market — that was unique. Are there any areas they could improve? The only thing Temper And Forge could improve was providing expectations of deliverables on our end earlier in our engagement. The team suggested they'd give us a copy document for our products page, but we couldn't do that since we had an extensive database of products. Having that information since the beginning would've been ideal.Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?I recommend being upfront about your goals and expectations. Temper And Forge was very organized and wanted to make the customer happy. If you go in with a clear mindset and tell them what you want to accomplish, the team will deliver and exceed your metrics.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge? We needed help with website design, development, enhancement, and support.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement? We started our engagement with Temper And Forge to rebuild our website. We had a lot of requirements to migrate from our old website instance to a new one. We also had certain specifications regarding how the site architecture needed to be set up, how we could better manage and maintain our website’s content on the backend, and how we could rank better in search engines for the pages we wanted to rank for.As for the technology stack, Temper And Forge has built our new website on WordPress and used some custom development items and plug-ins to help us accomplish our goals. Additionally, they’ve used a number of tools on their end to create the designs.Currently, we have a monthly partnership with Temper And Forge as we continue to scale for future phases of the website. For example, we’ve added a number of other sections, pages, and templates to our website. What is the team composition? We’ve worked with Nathan (Founder & Owner), Jesse (Lead Developer), and Katelyn (Account Manager). On a weekly basis, we work with three of Temper And Forge's teammates, but throughout the project, we’ve worked with another five of their teammates. How did you come to work with Temper And Forge? We had heard about them from a consultant who was working with us. This consultant was aware of other websites Temper And Forge had built, but they hadn’t worked directly with Temper And Forge in the past.Still, Temper And Forge was one of the several service providers we vetted. We decided to go with them due to their overall presentation and approach, as well as the report we developed. We did our own research and were able to ask for client references, which was also an important part of the vetting process. How much have you invested with them? We’ve spent between $50,000–$100,000.What is the status of this engagement? We started working together around June 2022. Temper And Forge completed the initial project around September 2022. However, our relationship continues as we work with them on a monthly basis.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? One of our goals was to have a better UX on our website. We’ve been able to see an increase in our conversion rate since launching the website, which directly relates to a better design and UX.We also wanted to ensure we ranked higher for the pages we wanted to rank for. The new website’s backend infrastructure has allowed us to add technical content and elements to the site in order to rank higher. As a result, we’ve seen a significant increase in organic traffic and search engine rankings. The fact that Temper And Forge was able to meet our website launch deadline has been another of our success metrics. Initially, we had a timeline for launching our website, and they were able to succeed in that regard. An additional measurement of success is the fact that we still work with them and view them as a valued partner. Although this is a subjective result, Temper And Forge has been very present, attentive, and supportive of our needs. Additionally, they’re very knowledgeable in website development and design best practices, and they’ve been able to meet all of our needs successfully. How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?Temper And Forge has a very organized way of managing the project and presenting and iterating on designs for us using various tools. Moreover, their ongoing project management is excellent. We connect to Nathan through Slack, where we communicate one-on-one.We also hold biweekly meetings with the team to address updates, concerns, and additional items. Overall, I’m impressed with their ability to continue to maintain a relationship with us, which benefits both parties: we get a valued partner to whom we have access, and they get a client who continues to invest with them. What did you find most impressive about them?Temper And Forge has been a great collaborative partner. We’ve come to them with an idea for which we don’t know how to get to the end result, and they’ve been able to fill those gaps and present really good options to achieve those results.Additionally, Temper And Forge’s overall ability to deliver the look and feel we were going for with our website is impressive. They presented us with multiple options to achieve what we were looking for, and I was very impressed with the direction they took. It even was difficult for us to choose which design direction we wanted to go with because all the options were very good. Are there any areas they could improve? Our engagement has gone so well that I don’t have any areas of improvement for Temper And Forge.Do you have any advice for potential customers?Be an active participant and client. Temper And Forge is a very collaborative team, so be actively involved in the project. They’ll be very receptive to your requests and understand your needs, so don’t hire them expecting that they’ll do the entire project on their own.Although I’m sure that Temper And Forge is very capable of completing a project on their own, I’ve noticed that our relationship has grown very strong due to our continued communication and collaboration. Be engaged with them on a regular basis so that both teams can be very well aligned.

We have a SaaS product that helps hospices, care providers, accountable care organizations, and healthcare systems to give patients the right care in the right place at the right time.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address Temper And Forge? Our website was slow, and we needed help redeveloping our website to reflect our new messaging and make it easier for users to find and navigate the site.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Initially, we provided a creative brief and an overall design brief. I spoke with Temper And Forge about our brand philosophy and brand elements and provided a rough wireframe that noted where all the content should go. I gave them access to our digital access tool, which included all our brand colors, stock photos, and other assets. We looked at other websites together to get an idea of the aesthetic I wanted.Temper And Forge has done a lot of the design work in conjunction with me and presented design options based on our brand and discussions; they’ve helped us redesign our website layout and architecture and created wireframes for us in Figma. They’ve also used Pastel and Adobe Creative Cloud products, including Photoshop and Illustrator. We’ve worked together to make sure the parts of the website are connected in the best way possible, and Temper And Forge has executed UX design; they’ve revamped our resources section of the site. We have a considerable amount of resources on the site, and Temper And Forge has enabled users to sort them by section and market. They’ve also built the new site mostly from scratch in WordPress using Advanced Custom Fields; We’ve used Elementor in the past, which we found slow and bloated. What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?Temper And Forge has optimized the backend, making the site run much faster and more smoothly. Within the first week of the engagement, the speed and responsiveness optimization of our website jumped from around 40% to 92%. They’ve increased the speed and usability of our resources section. We’ve received leads, so we know that the website is functioning properly; everyone is very happy with the new site. The website was just launched in mid-May 2023, so we haven’t collected many metrics yet.How did the company perform from a project management standpoint?Temper And Forge has added developers to help us launch the site 18 days ahead of schedule. The team is extremely responsive, extraordinarily organized, and a pleasure to work with. The intake of our information was very quick and coordinated; Temper And Forge is quick and efficient. They also work seamlessly with our third-party SEO and PPC agency.Everything has been on track, and the meetings are well-run. We communicate with Temper And Forge via phone conversations and biweekly video conferences on Zoom or Google Meet. They manage our project using monday.com. What did you find most impressive about them?Temper And Forge’s quality of work is exceptional; they’ve delivered everything they promised they would and more. We get excellent value for our money. Their attention to the design process left from the get-go has made me very comfortable. I’ve worked with other companies doing similar projects, and they usually haven’t put much importance on the design aspect. Temper And Forge is a very design-focused group that can back up their designs technically, which is rare; usually, agencies aren’t able to do both pieces. Are there any areas they could improve? No, they've done everything we asked.Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs? The better you can articulate your expectations, the better they’ll be able to meet those expectations.

We typically interfaced through Monday.com, email, phone, and video calls.

"“The website delivered by Temper And Forge exceeded our expectations.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I’m the Co-Founder of Earth+Kin, a family outdoor gear company. We manufacture hard goods and sell them directly to consumers.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge? We needed a custom e-commerce website for our brand launch. For this project, we needed help with the entire process, from design to fulfillment and launch.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Temper And Forge developed an e-commerce website for us. Given that we needed to build it from scratch, they initially recommended a different creative studio to help us with the assets required, including concept design, photography, video production, and Figma website design.Once we had the Figma files for the website design concept, we officially started our engagement with Temper And Forge, as they took those files to develop an operational e-commerce website. As for the technology stack, they used WordPress to build the site and created some plug-in integrations with WooCommerce, Brevo (formerly called Sendinblue), and ShipStation for the e-commerce operations portion of the site. What is the team composition?I worked with 3–4 teammates from Temper And Forge on a daily basis, including Nate (Founder & Owner), a lead developer, and a support developer. How did you come to work with Temper And Forge? We found them through word of mouth. When we were looking for a partner, we contacted a marketing agency that recommended them. How much have you invested with them?We spent around $21,000.What is the status of this engagement? We started working together in September 2022, and the project ended in January 2023 when we launched the website. Although the main project was completed, we plan to work with Temper And Forge on our SEO.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? The website delivered by Temper And Forge exceeded our expectations. We already had a website up and running before launching this new website. After launching it, our sales increased exponentially, so we were very happy with the conversion rates of our new site. How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint? We were very happy with how quickly Temper And Forge worked. Although the delivery date didn’t exactly match the estimated timeline, the only delays were on our end, not theirs. Moreover, the budget provided was clear and transparent, without unexpected cost fluctuations. There even was a piece of functionality we didn’t realize we needed until after launching the site, and Temper And Forge handled it as a warranty claim and absorbed that cost. Overall, we were very happy with how they handled the project to stick to the original budget by taking on the additional costs caused by edits outside the project’s scope. From a communication standpoint, Temper And Forge was one of the most professional groups I’d worked with. There was never a moment where we felt uncommunicated, as they always replied within minutes. We felt like we had a personal developer assigned to our project at all times. As for communication tools, we communicated via email, video calls, and phone calls. Towards the end of the engagement, we started using monday.com for continuous maintenance. What did you find most impressive about them?Temper And Forge had the design concepts to build the website. Still, throughout the project, our designers asked for edits and changes, which were addressed in real time. Before working with them, I had never experienced unlimited communication with a service provider, so I was very happy in that regard. Are there any areas they could improve?I don’t have any constructive criticism for Temper And Forge. If anything, I would have liked to do a more thorough review of the design concepts we handed them off initially to clarify that every necessary feature had been fully designed. They did a great job developing the website pixel by pixel based on the Figma design concept. However, some functionality was missing from that original concept, and no one realized it until after the launch. By doing a thorough review initially, we would have troubleshooted that issue sooner rather than later. Still, it wasn’t a problem, since Temper And Forge quickly jumped in, implemented the changes needed, and absorbed the cost.Do you have any advice for potential customers?Understand the platform that they use for building the website you need to be clear on what the end result will be. I could have done more research on my side about WordPress.

I’m a program manager at a research and education company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

We wanted to create a new e-learning service for humanitarian practitioners in the field, so we needed to redesign the look and feel of our online course material and website.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We hired Temper And Forge to help us create a new, clean, and sleek-looking WordPress website accessible for low bandwidth conditions worldwide. They’ve designed the wireframes and shown us different types of website designs for us to choose from.

What is the team composition?

We work with a project manager, a lead designer and developer, and a software engineer.

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

We found them while looking for boutique website developers. We had other options, but we decided to go with Temper And Forge because we liked their products and their team’s approach.

We started working together in February 2022, and the engagement is ongoing.

The website they’ve created is intuitive, which is great for us because we can update it ourselves. In addition, the platform is very mobile- and user-friendly, and that’s something we’re looking for because we’re an educational platform that needs to be accessible in low internet connectivity areas.

Overall, everything they’ve done meets our expectations regarding look, feel, mobile accessibility, speed, and the ability to switch languages — those are features we asked them to create since the beginning.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

I’m satisfied with project management. They’ve kept everything on schedule and use monday.com, where we can check the website’s progress. We also like that they have a dedicated project manager who sits on all of our biweekly calls to have constant contact with us and review everything. In addition, we use Slack — it’s very easy to reach out to them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have a lot of background information on education. Moreover, they’re able to create a product with accessibility for people who aren’t tech-savvy or have internet access.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think there’s anything they can improve on — I’m satisfied with them because they’re a great team to work with, including on an interpersonal level.

The team delivers ahead of time in anticipation of last-minute changes and collaborates well through Monday.com. Their design talent and understanding of requirements also stand out.
""They understand what we want and run with it.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the head of business planning and marketing at Foodberry.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

We were rebranding to a new name and wanted a website to reflect our new brand, and what we stand for, so we reached out to Temper And Forge.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Temper And Forge built our website using WordPress. They didn’t code from scratch; they worked within the parameters and tools on WordPress and utilized their own previous code that they plugged into our site as needed.

We asked the team to ensure the website reflected our most recent investor pitch deck so that, if investors looked at our site, it matched what they saw in the pitch deck. Temper And Forge included what our company does, focusing on making the site visually appealing and straightforward while still looking professional.

Currently, they provide us with site maintenance on a retainer and develop small sections as needed.

What is the team composition?

We’ve primarily worked with Nathan (Founder & Owner), who acts as our project manager. In addition, we’ve had email exchanges with two other people.

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

I found them through a Google search for top website design companies in Boston. We chose Temper And Forge because they’d won awards and ranked as one of the leading companies in the area.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $25,000–$27,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in May 2022, and the engagement is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our leadership team is very happy with how the website turned out. How fast Temper And Forge completed the site has been a key benefit. Their effective communication is also outstanding; they understand what we want and run with it. Since we're not actively running marketing campaigns, we don't have metrics.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

They're excellent at project management; it's crazy how fast they've turned around the project. They've also been quick with the edits we've requested. Temper And Forge delivered the site a couple of days ahead of time to give us time for last-minute changes.

We use Monday.com for project management. As for communication, we use email and the occasional Google Meet call.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Temper And Forge excels at web design and does all the work for us; we only need to provide feedback and input. We were looking at another company that didn't think they'd be able to meet our deadline. Discussing the project initially, I was on the phone longer with this other vendor than the entire time I've spent talking to Nathan.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there's nothing they need to improve at this time.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I definitely recommend Temper And Forge! To get the most out of the engagement, I recommend being as upfront as possible and giving them a sense of your brand and what you're all about. This way, they'll be more on target. Initially, we gave them our pitch deck and pre-selected some images, which gave them a good idea of what we wanted.

Its navigation and UX design are also top-notch. The team manages the engagement well and communicates closely with the client through various tools.
"“They have a good command of UX — they have a technical understanding of the data behind UX designs.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder and president of a software company.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

I hired Temper And Forge to build a website for us.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Temper And Forge has used WordPress to build our website. It has basic functionality and menus. There’s a video on the landing page, and it has a contact us page. At present, the team also provides maintenance and hosting services for us.

What is the team composition?

We work with four people from Temper And Forge, including their founder who serves as our main point of contact. We’ve also worked with two of their designers. Their assistant keeps all notes and makes project plans.

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

I found Temper And Forge through Google.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested around $12,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the engagement in March 2022, and it’s ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve only recently launched the website, so we don’t have much quantitative data yet. However, the feedback that I’ve gotten from other people is that the website is clean and easy to understand and navigate. It’s modern-looking and looks great on mobile devices. It makes good use of fonts, and I’m generally happy with it.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

Temper And Forge has met our deadline and stayed on budget. To manage the project, they use Monday. To communicate, we use a mix of Teams, Zoom, Slack, and email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re flexible and provide great advice on content, texts, and editing. That’s a good skill on their part. We’ve given them a lot of paragraphs, and they’ve created a lot of good content from those paragraphs.

On top of that, Temper And Forge definitely has a good eye for font usage. They have a good command of UX — they have a technical understanding of the data behind UX designs. As a result, the website isn’t designed randomly. Everything is intentionally structured based on data.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Weekly communication meetings, scheduled in advance would improve communication.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Show examples of existing sites you like to ensure your vision is clear.

Temper And Forge sticks to timelines very well, and our engagement has been great. They’ve handled the entire project through Monday.com, and we have a shared Slack channel to communicate. Additionally, we communicate via email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Temper And Forge can take their clients’ vision and turn it into a reality at a very competitive price. They did a great job at reflecting the highly visual characteristics of a painting business like ours on our website.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would be great if Temper And Forge offered better communication regarding the hours we’re using compared to the ours we had budgeted.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Come in with a detailed plan around what you need. It is helpful to provide them with how you want the pages to look and examples of other sites you like.

Responsive and collaborative, they listen well to feedback and are consistent in delivering on time. Their flexibility and design proficiency stand out.
"“Temper And Forge is a very talented team.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder and president of Billie & Bird Jewelry Co., an online jewelry website.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

We wanted to launch an online portal for our jewelry distribution. We needed a company that could help us design an e-commerce site in a cost-effective manner.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Temper And Forge helped us develop a template for our Shopify e-commerce site. We showed them our existing logo design, primary branding colors, product samples, and some examples of the different websites that we gravitated towards to give them an idea of our style and our vision for this website. They then came back to us with some sample templates.

Our plan was to customize an existing Shopify website template rather than develop a new one from scratch. Temper And Forge was able to weed through the different template options that we had and choose one that showcased our products the best. After selecting the final template, we continued working with them to make some changes to it. They gave us recommendations on the creative elements of the template, which included the images, font sizes, or font design. We worked back and forth until we came up with the final website design.

Aside from that, Temper And Forge also helped us choose the secondary colors to use on the website. They’re currently working on our site’s SEO.

What is the team composition?

We primarily work with Nate (Founder & Owner) and Sam (Frontend Web Developer).

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

Temper And Forge was recommended to us by a mutual friend, so we decided to reach out to them. We were really impressed with their previous work and their strategy in terms of working with us.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent somewhere around $10,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in July 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We've only been live for less than a month, so we don’t really have any quantitative metrics just yet. But we were in the top 7% of all Shopify websites that were launched in the same time period as our website.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

Temper And Forge has met our goals in terms of delivering everything on time. Their communication has been very good as well — they’re very responsive, and they always get back to us quickly whenever we have any questions or concerns.

We use Monday for project management, and we primarily communicate through email and text messaging.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Temper And Forge is a very talented team, but I’m most impressed with the fact that we could use their services on an as-needed basis instead of having them on retainer. This has been incredibly helpful in terms of sticking to our budget.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Temper And Forge’s communication is good, but it could be a little bit better. We’ve had a few instances where they could have been more proactive in terms of letting us know what needed to be done.

**The Review** — Mar 8, 2022

**Feedback Summary**: The site created by Temper And Forge meets the client’s expectations. Its design is so engaging that, within the first month of launch, the site was placed on the top 7% of all new Shopify sites. The team is very talented and professional, and they’re very good at meeting timeline expectations.
"“They run very leanly while being highly professional — that’s a good combination.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder and president of Billie & Bird Jewelry Co, a women’s jewelry website.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

We wanted to launch an online portal for our jewelry distribution in a cost-effective way while making it look very professional. Although we have a broad skillset, website and online store development are not part of our talents. Thus, we connected with Temper And Forge to get help.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Creating a custom template from an existing one was more cost-effective than designing and developing a new website from scratch, so Temper And Forge helped us develop a custom Shopify template for our site. Part of the reason why they recommended Shopify for our site was that online sales were our main focus. They told us that Shopify was a very seamless platform for new businesses like ours, and we would be able to combine a lot of the elements that we needed to run our store.

First, we provided them with assets to create the template, including our logo, primary branding colors, product samples, target audience information, and samples of different websites that we liked. With our input, they got a better understanding of our style. Then, they came back with different template options based on our style and the products we needed to showcase.

After choosing a template to start from, Temper And Forge started customizing it and fine-tuning it. This process was very collaborative, during which they gave us recommendations of different creative elements to add, including imagery, font size, and font design.

We launched the site recently, but Temper And Forge keeps working with us. Currently, they’re helping us with our SEO. These efforts started when they were still building the site, implementing on-site SEO strategies for our product names and listings.

What is the team composition?

Initially, we were introduced to four people from Temper And Forge, two of which focused on account services. However, we haven’t interacted with them a lot. Our main contact points have been Nate (Lead Developer & Owner) and Sam (Developer).

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

We were connected with Temper And Forge through a mutual friend, and we really liked the strategy they brought to the table to work with us. It was very attractive to us that we didn’t need to put them on a retainer, so they would work for us as much as we needed them to, and we would pay them accordingly. This approach was very helpful for us as a new business because we would be able to control our costs.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent less than $10,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together around July 2021, and our engagement is ongoing. Our goal was to launch the site around January 2022, but we were behind schedule and launched in February 2022, which was partially our fault.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Generally speaking, Temper And Forge has met our goals and done what we needed them to do. During the first month of our launch, we were in the top 7% of all Shopify websites that were launched in the same period, which was a great metric to understand how users perceived us. However, it is still early to provide any metrics regarding the site’s performance.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

Temper And Forge have been good at meeting timeline expectations. Although we launched our site later than we wanted, it was more our fault than theirs. Additionally, their communication has been good.

In terms of budgeting, we’ve been surprised a couple of times by our bills, but I don’t think it has to do with Temper And Forge. We use a Monday.com board, which tells us how many work hours we’re using. However, we haven’t been on top of it as much as needed, and we’ve ended up going over our budgeted hours. Moving forward, we will be more aware of that.

Besides Monday.com, we communicate via email and text messages. Our communication was especially helpful during launch because we texted them whenever we found bugs, and they fixed them immediately.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Temper And Forge is a very talented team. They run very leanly while being highly professional — that’s a good combination. Additionally, I like that they’re similar to a boutique shop financially speaking, so we don’t have to pay monthly contracts.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Temper And Forge’s communication has room for improvement. It would be great if they were more on top of things and frequently touched base with us.

We had a shoddy website, and we needed help in web and e-commerce development.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, Temper and Forge designed and developed a quick turnaround funnel website for our events business. We would use that as a landing page for our Google and social media ads.

The site is built on WordPress and contains our company information, services, and some testimonials. It also features a basic questionnaire that allows us to obtain essential details from prospective clients. After development, they’ve hosted this platform.

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with Nathan (Founder & Owner), a designer, and a developer.

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

Temper and Forge’s project management is top-notch. They’ve followed our schedule and even over-delivered; their team functions with very little guidance. We communicate through emails and Google Meet.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Temper and Forge has delivered what they’ve promised — that’s rare. They offer quality and timely work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything.

Listen to what they have to say because it’s valuable.

""The team quickly solves our technical problems.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m Impact Hub Boston’s co-director, and we’re a coworking space and a community for social innovators and entrepreneurs in the Boston area.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

We hired Temper and Forge to spearhead our website development and design project.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Our first project required them to help us with our existing website where they implemented changes and updates on our platform. When a larger project came down the road, they spearheaded our website migration efforts where they helped us set up our pages correctly because we only had a general template of how we wanted things to look. While the migration was ongoing, they made suggestions on the layout of our functionalities, the best platforms we could use, the payment pages we could implement, and more. They presented the cost-benefit analysis of each of the options they proposed.

Some of the features and functionalities of our site were related to scheduling tours, paid membership sign-ups with credit card components, links to event registration pages, and more. In addition, they integrated a blog page where a number of our photos and videos were posted. We already had a Webflow website, and the team helped us implement design and navigation changes on our platform. They ensured that our images weren’t too large and that our links were working accurately.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

We hired Temper and Forge to develop and design a website for us.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

I provided Temper and Forge with a Google Doc of my requirements and ideas. They took that and brought my vision to life, redeveloping our entire Shopify website from scratch. We’re currently working on the design and visuals using Figma, and the team is just about to get into coding the backend.

What is the team composition?

Sam (Developer) is working on the project, and I’m also in touch with their CEO.

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

I came to know of them through a referral.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve paid them around $5,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’m really happy with the outcome. Temper and Forge has done a great job so far, and the feedback towards the website has been generally positive. We’ve done a lot of top-line revenue through it, and our conversion rate has gone up by 40% since working with the team. I’m pretty excited about the next phase of the project, and I feel very confident in their ability to implement the site.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

Temper and Forge is great at this front. They meet every deadline and have a good cadence for providing me with weekly updates. If I forget to reach out to them, they make sure to keep us in the loop anyway. We mostly communicate through email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re very professional and an easy group to get along with. They seem to care about us being successful, and I’m really pleased with it. They provide their services the way a boutique agency would, and they treat us with great attention to detail despite them having other really good clients.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they exceed my expectations. Any dissatisfaction I have with our partnership would be on my own shortcomings of not giving them more stuff to do. I wish I had a little more bandwidth to give them instructions and tasks, but other than that, Temper and Forge has been fantastic.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Understand their workflow and give them as many hours as they need. They’re definitely going to do a great job.

**BACKGROUND**

I’m the CEO and co-founder of an educational tech company.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

We needed someone to develop and design a forward-facing marketing website to help sell the software we developed.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Temper And Forge developed and design our WordPress website. We collaborated on the initial scoping and told them about our vision and ideas, which they implemented on some of the design pieces.

They're currently providing us with ongoing maintenance and SEO services on a monthly basis.

What is the team composition?

We initially met with the founder of the company and once we got on board, we’ve been primarily communicating with the project manager.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

I think their team is really organized. They work in a timely manner and they stick to the budget that they initially quoted us with.

We used Monday to manage the project in the beginning, and we mostly communicate through phone and email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We like that they’re able to accomplish their tasks while adhering to our goals and budget. Temper And Forge is customer-centered and they really listen to our needs.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could’ve had a more uniform way of walking through the design pieces at the start of the process. It would’ve helped if they guided us through the steps of coming up with the design and copy ideas.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice is to share as much information about your goals and what you hope to achieve with the project as possible. Temper And Forge is great at listening to feedback and iterating your vision, so always be open to communication.

"“They have the ability to adapt to our needs as the project progresses.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CFO for the City of Everett, Massachusetts.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

We hired Temper And Forge to revamp our website.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, we provided Temper And Forge a Figma file that we’d developed. We needed them to convert that file into a WordPress website and incorporate all of the functionality that we were missing on our old site. They did the new website from scratch.

At present, we’ve contracted them to move forward into phase two of the project, which is website maintenance. The Temper And Forge team is also working with us to continuously make improvements and develop other areas of the website.

What is the team composition?

We work with Nathan (Founder & Owner), Katherine (Project Manager), and Sam (Developer). Alyssa (Account Manager) is part of the team, but we don’t work directly with her.

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

We found Temper And Forge by searching for top website development firms in the Metro Boston area. Our team didn’t necessarily want a local vendor, but because the project is time-sensitive, we focused on teams that could be local when necessary.

With that in mind, we interviewed three companies. We were instantly comfortable with Temper And Forge, and their resources were extremely responsive. To elaborate, the team listened to our needs and adapted to every single aspect that we expected from them — they were great. As a result, we hired them.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $45,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in September 2021, and the engagement is ongoing. They finished the first phase of the project in October 2021.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve received feedback from our residents, who say the website is much more user-friendly. They also accomplish tasks on the website. Moreover, our team has also received tremendous feedback from our department heads and staff.

Overall, we’re pleased with what Temper And Forge has done to our platform in terms of its searchability and accessibility. On top of that, we’ve had an aggressive timeline for the project’s first phase, but they’ve met it.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

For project management, they use Google Documents and a tracking program that allows everybody in our team to see what they’re working on and where the priorities are.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The most impressive thing about Temper And Forge is their dedication to meeting our goals within an aggressive timeframe. They have the ability to adapt to our needs as the project progresses.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Take the time to get to know the Temper And Forge team rather than relying on written proposals. Understand their philosophy and approach to the project. Doing this has been helpful in our selection process, which is why our project has been so successful.

**The Review** — Nov 8, 2021

**Feedback Summary**: Temper And Forge’s work has drastically increased sales, exceeding the client’s expectations. They are communicative and transparent, immediately giving notice if they need extra hours. Ultimately, they’re a cost-effective, lean, and efficient partner that delivers positive results.
""Every dollar we spend goes directly into results. I don’t feel like there’s any wasted time with them.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the digital marketing manager of a company that sells specialty eyewear for grow room horticulturists and pilots.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

Our website was based on an uncommon platform, and it had a custom theme — working on it required a higher-than-average knowledge of web development. We needed someone to manage our website.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We’ve been working with Temper And Forge for about three years now, and we come to them on an as-needed basis. We let them know our problem, and they came back to us with a quote. Once we approve, they’ll proceed with the work. After it’s completed, they’ll send it to us for approval.

Temper And Forge has built a dev site so we can review their work before it’s published on our live website. That has served as a checkpoint for our team to review before implementing changes.

After working with Temper And Forge for some time, we’ve put them on a monthly retainer. We have a set number of hours that are dedicated to us each month. They’re prompt in letting us know if we’re going to exceed our hours and asking for our approval for extra hours.

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with Sam (Developer) and Nate (Lead Developer & Owner).

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

We started working with Temper And Forge through another company. We eventually moved away from that company to work directly with them. They were a good fit because they did a great job handling our website.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2019, and it’s ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve experienced a huge year-over-year increase in direct sales. We’re conducting sales through our website, so we know the growth reflects Temper And Forge’s work.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re straightforward to work with — we have a great relationship with their team. They’re very transparent, and they don’t surprise us. We use Monday to stay organized and for day-to-day tasks, and we communicate through calls and email as needed.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Temper And Forge is very cost-effective and efficient. Many web development agencies have a ton of people involved in projects that are getting paid but aren’t doing any work.

Unlike them, Temper And Forge is a small boutique firm, and I know that every dollar we spend goes directly into results. I don’t feel like there’s any wasted time with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There were some incidents where it wasn’t clear who would check and sign off on the work, whether it would be them or us. I don’t blame them for that, but they could’ve been better project managers and clearer about tasks.

That said, as soon as the issue came up, we spoke about it. It was resolved immediately and hadn’t been a problem since.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be clear on what you want. As long as you know what you want, they can build it.

Throughout the project, Temper And Forge has provided great ideas and suggestions that can improve the site’s performance. They’ve also been highly communicative with the client.
"“They don’t only do what I ask them to do; they also offer great ideas.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder of a company that’s working in the mental health treatment industry. We help people get out of situations that aren’t ideal, whether they’re drug- or mental health-related. Our company provides them a platform where they get information about the cold, hard truth of what’s going on out there. It also tells them what steps they need to take to improve their lives that hopefully won’t cost them an arm and a leg.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

We hired Temper And Forge to build our website.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Temper And Forge has developed our website. Everything has been finished, but we’re still in partnership with them. We’ll launch the site by the end of October 2021.

What is the team composition?

We work with about five people, including Nate (Founder & Owner).

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

We had a bunch of meetings with companies here in Portland, Maine. We also talked to companies in New York and Boston. Meanwhile, we found Temper And Forge online.

Our conversations with Nate and his team at Temper And Forge showed us that they truly understood our vision while keeping competitive pricing. They also didn’t add things that we didn’t want, keeping everything simple — they didn’t upsell anything. Instead, the team made sure that we understood what we were asking for and what could be delivered. Overall, they hit the nail on the head while we were talking to them. We were able to drive home the product that we wanted, so we hired them.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $10,000–$25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Temper And Forge in February 2021, and the partnership is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Around 25 people have tested the site, and the feedback has been positive. They say that it’s modern and extremely user-friendly. It’s also clean and nice. Everyone understands exactly how it works and how to navigate it. Overall, the feedback has been absolutely positive; there hasn’t been any negative feedback on the website in terms of UX.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

Temper And Forge provides ideas and suggestions that help us increase our conversions and revenue. We’re going to use the ideas they bring to the table to enhance our performance. Overall, they don’t only do what I ask them to do; they also offer great suggestions and go above and beyond what we expect from them. To communicate, we use Google Meet.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their strongest suits are being down to earth and easy to speak to; I never feel uncomfortable when talking to them. We’re in different worlds, but they don't say things that I can’t understand. Everything is in layman’s terms. Simply put, they understand what I’m saying and they’ve brought my vision to life.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They can maybe use Zoom for our meetings instead of Google Meet. However, that’s just my personal preference. It’s more about the product than their performance.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be completely transparent; be upfront and explain exactly what you’re looking for and what you’re willing to spend. That way, you’ll get exactly what you want. As long as you’re speaking from the heart, they’ll deliver your needs plus more.

**The Review** — Sep 27, 2021

**Feedback Summary**: The website received good feedback from external stakeholders. Temper And Forge led an excellent project management. They were professional, well-organized, and prompt. They communicated effectively through online conference calls and emails. Overall, their team was upfront and committed.
""The level of access we had to their team and their can-do attitude distinguished them from the competition.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m one of the co-founders of a startup called Truistic. We’re an online comparison site for people trying to access treatment options for addiction and mental illness. We received funding to start the project less than a year ago.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

We needed to design a website.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Temper and Forge did our entire website from scratch. In the beginning, we provided them with an RFP with what we were looking for. We wanted a homepage that displayed three separate paths with different questioning so people could go into our site and decide if they want treatment right away, if they need treatment but are only looking around, or if they need help but don’t know what to do.

Another functionality was the searchable and filterable data about treatment centers based on the insurance providers they accept or treatment types they offer with graphics, photo galleries, listing options, geo-locations, and so on. They also provided the option to set up phone calls and potentially book treatment online.

What is the team composition?

We worked with four people throughout the project. We interacted with Nate (Lead Developer & Owner), Chris and Sam (Developers), and Catherine (Project Manager).

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

We didn’t want to go the Squarespace or Weebly route just to spend $3,000–$4,000 or less and have a cookie-cutter website. On the other hand, we also didn’t want to hire someone that’d charge us $80,000–$90,000. We were looking for something in between.

With Temper and Forge, I got a good vibe from Nate as soon as I got on the call. He was running the show, and he immediately got what I was talking about. Overall, he showed that they could provide an excellent product at a reasonable price and partner with us throughout the life of our company.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $20,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began our partnership in January 2021, and they delivered the website in June 2021.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We initially did some testing with groups of about 50 people. We told them to be rough on the website and complain about any little thing they could think of, but there was hardly any negative feedback.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

It was fantastic. Temper and Forge was very polite and professional. They tracked the project and kept us organized. If we asked to add certain things, they updated us quickly, answered emails, and planned meetings. Also, they were really upfront with us and let us know what was essential for us to complete, what could take a couple of days, and so on. Overall, we felt comfortable because we knew exactly what was going on, and everything was completed on time.

We usually initiated communication by email, and they were always available on Google Meet, Zoom, or any type of online conference call.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The level of access we had to their team and their can-do attitude distinguished them from the competition. They also took the time to understand what we were trying to achieve and why it was important for our business model. We felt they were immersed in the project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything. They answered all of our questions, and the price point was amazing compared to everyone else’s.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Spill your guts to them; let them know everything. Tell Temper and Forge exactly what you want, why you want it, what’s connected to it, where the thought comes from, and so on. Just dump everything on the table; they’ll love it. They want to know where you’re coming from, not only specific instructions about the functionality.

We’ve engaged Temper And Forge to build a WordPress website for us. We’ve put together our requirements and the information we want to be featured on the platform, and we’ve sent the document over to Nate (Founder & Owner).

Temper And Forge has then referred to that documentation to entirely develop our website, excluding a few graphic images done by our hired designer. They’ve since built our site’s homepage and our disclosure library and integrated our Zendesk account into the platform. We’re still in the process of applying modifications and completing product testings to make sure that we’re compliant with legal requirements.

What is the team composition?
Our main point of contact is Nate.

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

Temper And Forge was onboarded before I was tasked with this project. They initially built a mockup, and I was assigned to work with them and complete its functional and final version to proceed with the go-live.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $10,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing engagement with Temper And Forge commenced in March 2021.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We belong in an industry that requires strict compliance with the government’s regulation — this means that any product must undergo rigorous testings and quality assessments to secure approval.

Temper And Forge has persistently cooperated with us to meet those requirements and standards. We’ve gone through several rounds of adjustments to implement any necessary updates and correct known errors, and Nate has remained responsive throughout the process — that level of cooperation is our main success metric for now.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

We mainly communicate via email. Temper And Forge respects our budget and project timelines — we never have to chase them for anything, and any delay we’ve encountered has been on our team’s end.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re most impressed with their unwavering patience and commitment to delivering our exact needs. Temper And Forge has noteworthy customer service — they don’t just give out solutions we can use, but they help us flesh out efficient ideas on our own.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They’ve done a great job while remaining transparent — we can’t really ask for anything more.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You can trust Temper And Forge to give you a great experience. Their team delivers seamless results and communicates effectively with their customers.

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the founder and CEO of a food service broker company; we focus on helping brands grow in the food service industry.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

We wanted to do website development for our business.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We already had a website, but it was made cheaply and poorly because it was all I could do back then. Temper And Forge revamped our site on Squarespace with a fresh look using their creative talent and skill set. They did use some of the pieces from our old page and translated them to our new one, but it feels like they did it from scratch.

We told them that we wanted a shiny and professional website where people could go and learn about our work. The site features content like a services page, a territory map, pictures of our team with their bios, and all the basic premise information and story of our company.

Currently, they provide ongoing maintenance to our site.

What is the team composition?

Our main point of contact is Nate (Founder), but we also interact with around three more people from their team.

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

They’re a local company, and they were referred to me.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $6,000 with them so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in May 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I don’t have metrics of their work, but as far as feedback, I can say that their work is excellent and that our internal team is psyched about our site. Additionally, people in our industry and potential clients have been giving positive feedback on our site.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re great at sticking to schedules and deadlines. In terms of communication, we use phone calls and email — they’re very responsive.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their creativity is outstanding — they’re the whole package. They lead a professional and enjoyable engagement as well.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think there’s anything they can improve on — I have no complaints at all.

Any advice for potential customers?

They’re in good hands with Nate — he’s a good guy and takes the project very seriously. Also, their pricing is pretty reasonable, so working with them will deliver a solid engagement.

"“Temper And Forge performed very well; they were very thorough and good communicators.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

We’re retail chocolate makers. We elaborate handmade chocolates in an open kitchen and sell them in the Boston area.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper And Forge?

We already had a website, so we wanted to clean it up and make it more functional in order to convey who we were and increase our sales.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Temper And Forge took the time to meet with me on several meetings to understand who we were and how we wanted them to design our website for it to convey our message. They then redesigned our website, and we brought in a professional photographer to take and provide them with new photos for it. They were in charge of the whole project, which included updating the site’s technology stack, speed, usability, and visibility.

What is the team composition?

I worked with Nathan (Founder & Owner) and another person.

How did you come to work with Temper And Forge?

I found them doing an online search. I was looking for a local company because I had worked with a foreign company before. Having face-to-face interaction with them really made a difference; I could explain and describe my ideas better.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $6,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in April 2021, and they delivered the website in August 2021. We’re still in contact with them in case we need to continue making edits, uploading more photos, or posting seasonal content.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our new site is faster and offers improved usability to our customers. We’ve received very positive feedback all around. However, it’s hard for me to measure the impact of our new website on our sales so far because our activity decreases during the summer months. We won’t be able to see results until the fall.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

Temper And Forge performed very well; they were very thorough and good communicators. Nathan was very responsive and clear. He put together a list of tasks that they then addressed to accomplish what we accomplished.

It was very easy to work with them. We communicated via email and shared files.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Overall, I was very impressed with how organized and creative Temper And Forge was. They brought new ideas to the table.

If we would have worked with another company, maybe they wouldn’t have cared about us as much. However, being local, Nathan loved our product, so he was very helpful throughout the project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything that they could have done better.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Let Temper And Forge come back with new ideas and don’t try to control the project. They know what they’re doing.

VP Marketing, Theory Wellness Inc.
- Industry: Other industries

- Client size: 51-200 Employees
- Review Type: Phone Interview

**The Review** — Feb 5, 2021

**Feedback Summary**: Temper and Forge delivered a flexible website that satisfies key metrics, including load speed, traffic, and search engine rankings. Company leadership facilitates a successful partnership by providing insightful recommendations and solutions to challenges. They understand the client’s goals.
""Their team understood how to create an interesting website without sacrificing speed."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the VP of marketing for Theory Wellness. We’re a cannabis brand with operations and multiple licenses between Maine and Massachusetts.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper and Forge?

As a brick and mortar retail operation, we have one foot in e-commerce and another foot in traditional retail. In the cannabis industry, we’re limited in our resources for the e-commerce shopping experience. One of our major goals for working with Temper and Forge was to elevate the cannabis shopping experience. It was important for us to integrate our marketing systems and platforms.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Our team managed a lot of the design work but partnered with Temper and Forge to refine them. They helped us balance aesthetics and function. Their team built the WordPress website from scratch, ultimately delivering a website that didn’t carry much technical debt. They didn’t build a mono-state website. Instead, their team worked to deliver a platform that would allow us to move into an enterprise approach. They build the frontend menus through a third-party system called dutchie and implemented WooCommerce to serve as a product library.

The project began with the website development and grew into further optimizations and features. Our web project scaled into a partnership between our organizations.

What is the team composition?

I primarily work with Nathan (Founder and Owner) and Sam (Frontend Web Developer).

How did you come to work with Temper and Forge?

A network of my contacts from New York City connected us with Temper and Forge. They were familiar with Nathan and his work.

We went through an RFP process through which we evaluated vendors' proposals for time to market, approach to the build, and management. As we scaled our operations, we wanted to ensure that we would have a trusted partner that could scale with us. We went with Temper and Forge because they understood the business strategy and nuance of what we wanted to accomplish with this project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the project in October 2019, and the bulk of it was completed in September 2020. However, we have an ongoing relationship.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It’s been a wonderful experience working with Temper and Forge. Nathan’s attentive to the needs of the business and never pushes us in one way or another. He comes with meaningful solutions when we identify challenges.

We have numerous KPIs: site traffic, load speed, and SEO. Load speed and SEO are two of the most important criteria for our evaluations of the site as a whole. They did a fantastic job on both fronts. That goes toward our narrative of the success we’ve seen so far.

How did Temper and Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

Nathan took the time to educate us on ways to approach our goals. He's always willing to take phone calls and always in contact whether it’s through text messages or late-night phone calls. We manage projects through Mondays and use Dropbox and Google Sheets to share content. There are several platforms that we use in this engagement.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their leadership understands the consumer and technical aspects of marketing. Their team has our best interests in mind when coming forward with feedback or recommendations. Knowing that their feedback’s reliable is a sign of a great partner.

At the end of the day, we've moved on from a website with five different languages. They saw our challenges early in the engagement and wanted to provide us with a functional website that could scale with us without creating tech debt. Their team understood how to create an interesting website without sacrificing speed.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The challenges we faced would’ve existed regardless of our partner organization. We designed in isolation early in the development, which created challenges down the road. We missed handing off designs that met functional standards. However, our fruitful conversations made it easier for us to bridge those gaps. It’s not usual that one team from one organization designs and then a different team from a different organization builds.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Even if you don’t know exactly what you want, they can help you figure it out. They’re a dynamite team that’s a helpful partner. As time goes on, I noticed that they have a fundamental interest in our business. They know our goals and can execute them quickly. That approach is helpful on the digital side, especially in the quickly evolving cannabis industry.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It was a complete success. They made the site look much more professional and work much smoother. We have a very complex WordPress site with a lot of custom code on the backend, and one of the things that Temper And Forge did very well was migrating all of that code painlessly to the new design on the frontend. That was a significant risk, but they handled it very well.

How did Temper And Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

I found them to be professional and exceptionally easy to work with. They were very efficient and had excellent project management. They used some project management tools internally, which they offered to us to use. I didn’t need to be very involved because things went smoothly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their efficiency and responsiveness were impressive.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing comes to mind.

Any advice for potential customers?

If you have a clear idea of what you want to achieve, they’re very good at implementing it.

I work for a venture capital firm called Building Ventures. We invest in real estate and construction technology early-stage startups. I am a principal on the investment team, and I also double as our brand and marketing expert.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper and Forge?

We wanted to redesign and relaunch our website and, in the process of doing that, migrate from Joomla to WordPress. I was also looking for a partner to not just do the development work and migration, but to project manage the entirety of the redesign process. This meant either bringing in or helping me to manage the design vendor and keeping the entire project on task. We’re a small firm, so the site management and marketing are my secondary responsibilities. We needed to hire a development firm to help us.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

I had a designer in mind, a woman who had worked with me previously, and I introduced her to Nate (Founder & Owner). They met and really kicked it off, so it was really the three of us starting from scratch.

Nate managed all of the deliverables from the designer and reviewed the feasibility of the design within the template and the WordPress platform along the way, so that I didn’t have to review anything until the final high-fidelity design mockup. Nate enabled some animation capability and video elements on the site. He also integrated the site with our CRM for form submission.

What is the team composition?

I worked exclusively with Nate on this project.

How did you come to work with Temper and Forge?

Nate was recommended to me by a former teammate who is somewhat of an expert in the marketing field. In January, we met to discuss the scope of work.

How much have you invested with them?

My company spent $35,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project began in January 2020, and we just went live in April 2020.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We aren’t a traditional e-commerce or even a true B2B site in that we’re really trying to drive a lot of traffic to the site organically, so many the more traditional metrics aren’t as critical. Our real indicators would be lack of bugs, timeliness of project completion, and site speed and accuracy, all of which have been excellent.

How did Temper and Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

Nate was excellent. He had a preference for using Monday.com, a tool that my firm likes to use as well, so that was very streamlined for us. He really kept us on task, which was really important for me so that I could ensure that my team was providing deliverables in a timely way without having to monitor that whole process myself. Nate was great about keeping our designer on time; she’s a very organized and meticulous person as well, so she valued that as well. I know from the designer that Nate was great to work with and very collaborative.

Project management was a hugely important element for us; we obviously wanted to have a beautiful site, and that was achieved, but having someone who felt like an extension of the team and keeping us on task was huge. It was important to me that we were able to use the designer that we did. She actually has another full-time position, and the fact that we were able to be on time and very respectful of the time she was putting in to be a part of this project was a testament to Nate’s project management. That was really helpful to her.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’d have to say two things: Nate has a great disposition and is really easy to work with, combined with his organizational and project management skills.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, not really. It was really great overall.

Any advice for potential customers?

Make sure that you’re comfortable handing over the reins from a project management perspective. If someone wanted to follow their own procedures or manage the project themselves, they might want to vet if that would be as good of a fit, as opposed to a firm like ours where we really wanted someone who could come in and manage us while still being flexible.

"

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

I am the Principal Writer and Co-Producer at my video production company. I oversee all copywriting and project production.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Temper and Forge?

We didn't have a website so we hired Temper and Forge to build us one from scratch. Beyond design and implementation, he consulted on copy to help us represent ourselves accurately.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to create a website with intuitive design that accurately represented our company by displaying our work and team in a friendly, transparent, engaging way.

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this vendor?

We heard about Temper and Forge through a friend who had used their services and had a great experience.

Describe the project in detail.

We first contracted Temper and Forge services in February of 2018 after we had rough drafts of our website copy. Over email, we discussed a design that would support the structure of our copy and Temper and Forge offered constructive criticism on our copy.

We finalized our copy and Nate implemented the design over the course of a few iterative sessions of builds and feedback. We were allowed edits upon request after the initial finalized site was done, given that his services were on retainer.

What was the team composition?

We always had full access to Nate Botelho, the founder and lead web designer at Temper and Forge. All of our discussions were with him and he delivered all website drafts.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Our site was built and edited on schedule with each deadline that we requested and we at ButAlso Productions were all very pleased with the finished product.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

There were no issues in workflow between our team and Temper and Forge. Communications were easy and prompt, and we never seemed to have any complaints.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We got a sense that Temper and Forge generally went above and beyond. Nate is clear-headed, quick, and understanding. He was always on time and his accomodations were beyond generous.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Nate is realistic about expectations and works fast. We never faced inappropriate lack of progress or communication. We have no recommendations for improvement since we were so pleased with the result of Nate’s work and how he does it.

**The Review** — Mar 11, 2020

**Feedback Summary**: Overall, with 18 sites the team made over $50 million in sales, taking their email list from less than 1,000 to over 1.3 million. Temper and Forge takes an active role in feedback cycles to ensure effective collaboration. The team is hard-working,c reative, and tenacious.
""Their speed and malleability set them apart."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

Digital Acumen is a New Hampshire-based technology company with ventures in advertising, data activation, and custom development. I am co-founder and Chief Operating Officer.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Temper and Forge?

We initially hired T&F to assist with a string of web development projects that occurred in quick succession, all of which had extremely truncated timelines to completion. What resulted was a years long relationship in which the crack team of PM's, developers, and designers at T&F have been instrumental in everything we've done, from b2b/DTC web builds to custom app development.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goals were to be able to offer faster, scalable, ongoing web services to our customers. We primarily work in WordPress and Shopify, with customers in the cannabis and cbd space. As such, integrating payment processors/with state seed-to-sale tools via API connections is table stakes. The ability to offer this kind of work in addition to our core business (programmatic advertising) has been a gamechanger.

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this vendor?

We met T&F through a referral. We vetted a handful of vendors but Nate and his team brought the perfect blend of experience, speed, and affordability to the table.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

T&F built an entire digital ecosystem from the ground up which started with server architecture in order to facilitate state by state expansion (client: multi-state operator with cannabis operations in 13 states, each of which required its own microsite in addition to a corporate site and a cbd site with transactional ecomm functionality).

They built and deployed strategies to accommodate multi-state operations so that each state could comply with state guidelines and provide state-level teams with input and control over certain areas of their respective sites. They actively managed, maintained, improved, and roadmapped the next iterations of this ecosystem on a daily basis.

What was the team composition?

The vendor's team involved two core developers, an SEO/analytics person, and a UX/UI designer. For more specialized projects (map tools, physician directory, custom Shopify plugins), the core team was supplemented with effective subject matter experts.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

In total we worked to T&F to build:

18 unique websites
	$50+ million in sales
Email list from less than 1,000 to over 1.3 million - 200 million targeted ad impressions across 13 states (cannabis) and 48 states (CBD) respectively
	$3.8B market cap for client
How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The project was managed through a combination of AGILE methodology and the use of project management tool Monday.com. I thoroughly enjoyed the insights and feedback loop this tool created.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their speed and malleability set them apart. Scope changes were aplenty and T&F was willing to work with us to accommodate the client at every turn without missing deadlines.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I don't think anything could have been improved. Nate & co. are wizards.

Communications & Operations Manager, High Meadows Institute

**The Review** — Jan 15, 2020

**Feedback Summary**: The site is easier to navigate than the previous version.  By providing important project details and asking questions, Temper and Forge was easy to communicate with. Their team was very knowledgeable, which translated into a smooth collaboration.
""They readily understood what we were looking for and delivered a beautiful and functional site."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

I am the Communications and Operations Manager for a Boston-based think tank and policy institute focused on the role of business leadership in creating a sustainable society. While we are a non-profit, we work primarily within the business and financial sectors and communicate with corporate executives, business leaders and investment management professionals.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Temper and Forge?

Our previous website was designed in 2014 and had an outdated look, as well as lacking some of the functionality we required. We hired Temper and Forge to redesign the site to give it a more polished and professional appearance and increased functionality.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted a site that would be more inviting and intuitive for visitors to navigate and that would showcase our publications and projects. We also wanted a way to track traffic to the site and in particular, to track who was downloading our publications.

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this vendor?

I searched for web developers in the Boston area with WordPress expertise and created a shortlist of four vendors based on positive reviews and samples from their websites. I contacted each vendor and had a brief phone call or email exchange, after which I sent them an RFP detailing the requirements for the project. The vendors sent proposals and we selected Temper and Forge based on Nate's intuitive understanding of the project and our needs, as well as his reasonable price point.

Describe the project in detail.

Once we selected this vendor, I had a phone call with him to discuss the project in greater detail and we stayed in regular contact over email so that he could keep me updated on progress and I could answer any questions he had. Although we had some general ideas on how we wanted the site to look, most of the overall design was left to Nate, as well as all of the technical aspects of the site build.

Although there was an existing site, the back end was a bit of a mess and Nate wound up building most of the site from scratch. The draft site was ready within a month and we had a phone call so that he could take me through the site and I could provide feedback on the general look and direction.

He sent the next version within a few weeks, incorporating earlier feedback, and outlined his plan for completing the rest of the project. We provided further feedback and then at the last minute asked him to move up the launch date by a week to coincide with an event our CEO was attending. We were thrilled that he was able to meet the new deadline and still incorporate all of the feedback!

What was the team composition?

I worked directly with Nate, who did all of the design and technical work. I liaised with our CEO to show him drafts of the site and incorporate his feedback, but Nate did not communicate with him directly.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We were very pleased that we were able to launch the redesigned site right before an event that our CEO was speaking at. The site is much simpler to navigate and we're able to direct interested parties to our projects and publications more easily.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Nate was very easy to communicate with. He's very responsive to questions, detailed in his requests for information and patient with our lack of technical savvy and kept us regularly updated with his progress and work left to be done. He's also very personable with a great sense of humor! Most of our communication was over email, with phone calls whenever more detailed feedback or clarifications were needed.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was really impressed with Nate's skill and depth of knowledge, as well as his professionalism. He was easy to work with and we appreciated his patience and good humor throughout the project. They readily understood what we were looking for and delivered a beautiful and functional site.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No, I had no complaints about working with Temper and Forge. It was a pleasure working with Nate!

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m one of the co-founders of Stanton Schwartz Design, a Boston-based interior design firm.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Temper and Forge?

As a very visual business, we needed to build a website that reflected and elevated our interior design services.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Temper and Forge built the website from the ground up, implementing features based both on our vision and their own research. They secured a domain name, designed the layout, and added all of our visual and textual content.

The landing page the team designed allows our customers to understand our business and the quality of work we do just by glimpsing at the website. They’ve also given us the ability to showcase some of our key highlights from our portfolio.

What is the team composition?

Our point of contact is Nate (Founder & Owner, Temper and Forge). Though he has a team who supports him, we’ve not interacted with them directly.

How did you come to work with Temper and Forge?

What is the status of this engagement?

We hired the team to build the website in 2017, and as of now, our engagement with them is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Though the website is built, we’re still in contact with Temper and Forge as we reach out to them when we have new projects, publications, or additions to our portfolio.

We’ve had outstanding feedback on our website. Visiting our page is typically the first step potential clients take before deciding if they want to do business with us, and we often hear compliments about how beautiful it is.

Not only has it been a pleasure working with them, but I really believe Temper and Forge’s work elevates our own.

How did Temper and Forge perform from a project management standpoint?

Nate is very impressive as a project manager. He’s at the top of the pack in terms of responsiveness, often getting back to any questions or concerns we have within minutes of us reaching out.

What did you find most impressive about them?

There are plenty of firms that are capable of producing the same caliber of work, but what sets Temper and Forge apart is their customer service. Our experience with their level of communication and professionalism has been remarkable.

Of all the vendors I work with, they’re by far the most responsive and easiest to work with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. We’ve never had any issues.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you have the opportunity to work with Nate, you’ll be in incredibly good hands.
