Are there any areas for improvement or something Snappymob could have done differently?

On a personal level no. I was asking for lots of flexibility and customization at a high degree due to my constraints and were mostly accommodated. Therefore, I expected to allow flexibility on their side too. However, if we were operating at status quo initial communication to get things kicked off could have been some what faster. However, this is hard to prove since this is a counterfactual and if I operated at status quo I probably would have received a corresponding service level.

Topped with the technical experience from the project manager and business analyst, they have assisted us to translate the business needs into technical requirements, ensuring accurate scoping to meet its objectives. Our project was delivered of our schedule thanks to the project manager and the team pushing for project deliveries and us, as the customers, have less concerns of having delays in this project. The coordination and stakeholder management from Snappymob was excellent. They've ensured proper communication with the project team and stakeholders are managed, reducingexternal risks and increasing project success.

Snappymob designed and developed a proprietary computation engine to automate multi-currency trade settlement. This new engine resulted provided accuracy and eliminated manual work. The engine was integrated into an existing platform used for mobile and Web applications.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Snappymob designed, developed and integrated a complex system within a very tight timeframe. The new system reduced errors by close to 100%, above the 98% threshold set for the project. In addition, automations and a back-office dashboard were developed to reduce manual work and human errors.

Snappymob's team showed a willingness to commit and work towards stretched goals. Along the way, we were continuously updated on progress, issues and blockers. The team understood our objectives and aligned themselves to achievement of our needs. Senior leadership of Snappymob devoted time and attention to explain and resolve urgent issues.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We approached Snappywork with a challenging problem with no definite solution and a very demanding timeline. Our existing software developer had no answers and others we spoke to were not up for such challenge. Snappymob was different and empathetic. 

It was clear that Allen and his team had the technical capabilities, but the highlight of our work was when our combined teams, including colleagues from abroad, convened in a ‘war room’ to analyse, problem-solve and prototype in real-time over several intense weeks. 

There was no quick and easy win, there was no other way, but with Snappymob’s advice, technical expertise and tenacity, we prevailed and met our goals. Snappymob is a valuable technology partner that I would recommend and choose to work with again.

I’m the technical lead on the digital and new media side at BFM Media. We’re an independent radio station that runs content locally and internationally via our digital platforms, website, and app.

What challenge were you trying to address with Snappymob?

We needed to revamp our app because it was several years old, so we were looking for a partner that could help us modernize it and develop, design, and deliver everything we needed.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Snappymob helped us redesign, redevelop, and modernize our iOS and Android mobile app using Figma for the designs and Node.js for the development. The app’s core functionality is to store our content.

We create and post audio content, videos, and articles, so users can go in, sign up, and access content of their choice, such as business-related or lifestyle-related content. Once they choose a content category of their liking, our repository suggests more content to see. Moreover, we have a live-streaming feature.

What is the team composition?

We worked with two UI/UX designers, a project manager, and about six developers — three for the Android version and three for the iOS version.

How did you come to work with Snappymob?

We had already worked with Snappymob prior to this project, but I don’t recall how we found them initially. Originally, we were looking for a very strong development partner who could develop our first app for us and help us grow it, and Snappymob was the one that developed the first version of the app.

We approached them again for this project to see if they could help us. Then, Snappymob got back to us with their own plan for our engagement, what it would look like, and the prices. There was some negotiation as to what would happen and how it would happen, considering our needs and budget.

We spent about $30,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from April–July 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Thanks to Snappymob, we were able to launch our revamped app in late 2021 with a refined infrastructure in the background. In general terms, our partnership was good. We don’t have an in-house development team, so being able to have Snappymob help us out was excellent. Our sales team is also very happy with their work. Now, they can go out and sell our product to our clients, using the app to advertise the product.

How did Snappymob perform from a project management standpoint?

The whole process was quite meticulous and well thought out. We had project management from Snappymob, who oversaw the whole process through to the completion. Their project management was wonderful, and they were really good at what they did, from the planning phase all the way to the delivery phase.

On top of that, Snappymob was extremely responsive. They helped us throughout the whole process. The team worked during normal office hours, but they responded very quickly and were always available to help us if we had an issue. Even today, they help us out whenever we have issues with the app. We used Jira for project management.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Snappymob was very communicative and took the time to fully understand what we wanted. I led the project from our side, but our founder also had multiple interactions with them, which was very important. Moreover, they’re extremely adept at what they do. I was impressed with their planning, execution, and delivery as a whole.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything Snappymob could have improved on. I was very happy with the outcome of the project.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Snappymob is very creative, both in terms of design and execution, so they can suggest things that you probably haven’t thought of yet, as well as ways to make things better. Work with them for the entire development and design because they can deliver a lot.

The Joanna Briggs Institute is an umbrella organization underneath the University of Adelaide. We’re involved in evidence summary research. I’m the IT & Digital Delivery Manager. 

We have a workforce of research fellows that produce evidence summaries based on documentation of how to treat particular medical situations or cases. The summaries go through the standard scientific peer-review process before we publish them.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Snappymob?

We needed to massively revamp our IT infrastructure, which involved redesigning existing applications and developing new ones to increase content availability, integration, and interoperability. 

Our goals were to reduce maintenance cost, increase data consistency, and bring about greater opportunities in terms of what we could use that data for.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Snappymob is helping us bring our IT platforms and data up to date. We have some side-projects done in-house, and we need to integrate those with the applications that Snappymob is developing.

The first one that they’re working on is a document processing system for research fellows, used for the development and editing of evidence summaries. There’s a workflow by which documents go through various stages until they’re ultimately published and made available to our partners.

On top of that, we had a requirement for creating a single sign-on. We’ve increased our number of applications, and users shouldn’t be required to log into each one. All our apps are integrated with the single sign-on system, and we integrate with partners using an OAuth framework.

The next project that Snappymob’s been involved with is developing a strategic commercial application. It allows clinicians to integrate with our evidence summary platform and search for documents relevant to their particular audits, either for their own academic advancement or to address a problem they have at their points of care. 

Clinicians are able to take the evidence in part or in full, and they can invite participants to their projects and sites, to create formal reports that are acceptable to be published in appropriate scientific journals.

What is the team composition?

I’m working predominantly with the senior developers in the team, although I know all of Snappymob’s developers. One or two have come and gone, and we’ve gradually increased the number of resources. 

Those resources have been JavaScript and Java developers, project managers, and designers. We have senior developers in place for code management and deployment.

Allen (Co-Founder & CEO) is involved with the team. Financially, I also work with Alvin (Co-Founder & Head of Business Development), who’s predominantly involved in the management of the company, not on the technical side.

How did you come to work with Snappymob?

I was working in Malaysia, and I looked there for a company to help us with a mobile app project. I met Allen, and even though we didn’t pick him at the time, I was impressed with him. I contacted him when the current project came up. 

I was very impressed, not only with his technical knowledge but also with his diplomatic approach, common sense, breadth of knowledge, and experience working with companies in Europe. 

Also, their rates were fantastic compared to similar companies in Australia. The main thing was that I knew I was going to get quality development work, and that’s been proven to be the case.

How much have you invested with them?

We average $40,000 AUD (approximately $30,000 USD) per month. The total cost so far is close to $1 million AUD (approximately $754,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Snappymob in November 2019. We expect to be employing them as contractors for the next 3–4 years.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We follow an agile development process. We create technical specifications based on which Snappymob creates designs and does the technical work. I judge their work by how closely it matches our specifications and by the number of bugs. 

Adherence to deadlines is an indirect measurement of quality because we’ll be hard-pressed to meet deadlines if we’re continually fixing bugs. The fact that Snappymob is meeting deadlines is indicative of the quality of the product. They’re rolling out functionalities that meet the expectations of our executives.

How did Snappymob perform from a project management standpoint?

We have sprint reviews on Fridays and sprint planning on Mondays, and we have technical design meetings. Much of the application is GUI-based, so we go through a lot of mockups. 

We have to get on the same page with Snappymob within that process in terms of expectations on not only how the applications should work for the user, but also the underlying requirements for speed and accuracy. 

When looking at a mockup, we can’t really tell how fast it’s going to respond. The fact that I’m technical means that I can give them very technical requirements.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to recruit quality resources is impressive. With some companies, there’s a tendency to hire the cheapest resources, but Snappymob doesn’t do that. They pay above-market rates, and they get quality resources because of that. 

Almost everyone on their team that I’ve worked with has been very professional and high quality. That being said, when I have had difficulties, I just mentioned my problem and it was dealt with immediately.

We were recently forced by the university to open a tender to anybody, and the response we got from Snappymob impressed our members in the university. Without my asking, Allen has recognized that, because his business has grown, he needs to employ people to replace him. 

I’ve seen project managers come into the business and developers take over his role. I’ve been impressed with his ability to extend his functionality to people that he recognizes as suitable. 

It’s not just about performing, but also being able to perform as the company grows and not getting lost in bureaucracy and introducing processes that stifle the good things about the company. Snappymob seems to be able to grow and still deliver.

I’m the owner and CEO of Work@holic, a café and deli chain located in Malaysia. I’ve been running the business for three years now.

What challenge were you trying to address with Snappymob?

We wanted to have a platform that could improve loyalty among customers. We wanted to have an application for iOS and Android.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We got in touch with Snappymob, and they helped us develop the native application for our customers and cashiers running the POS system. The app allows the customer to prepurchase a beverage and redeem it whenever they want.

At the same time, the app allows them to get their beverage ordered before they arrive at the outlet so that they can collect it on the spot. They took care of it from end to end, from the customer journey to the app's interface and design.

What is the team composition?

I dealt with Alvin (Co-Founder), the account director. He is the one that we interfaced with each day on the project and the project management side. We also worked with Alan (Founder) on the development side.

How did you come to work with Snappymob?

We found Snappymob online. I found three different developers, and I also had asked people for feedback. Snappymob was also featured on a local radio station, and a few local media companies had used them.

In total, we spent about $25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the engagement in the first quarter of 2017, and it ended around March 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

One of the things that we were really trying to achieve was getting more people on board using the application for purchases. Since the project launched a few years ago, more than 50% of our consumption of beverages has come through the app, which is a lot higher than what we originally expected. I would attribute that to the app itself, the functionality, and the ease of use.

How did Snappymob perform from a project management standpoint?

The team sets clear milestones. We had a lot of frequent catch-ups, and that really helped me understand what is going on. We would either speak over the phone or face to face for the meetings. Most of the correspondence was through email, and we would occasionally text and use WhatsApp too.

I think they really got me up to speed for a person who knows nothing about app development. Upfront, they would highlight some of the challenges I might face through the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I find that they are very reliable and flexible. If things don’t come out to be exactly as expected, I think they do sometimes bend backward just to get it done. They deliver according to what they say they will do and the timelines.

It really surprised me because I was expecting a lot of pushbacks and delays, which didn’t happen. That was a strength.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Based on my experience, I think they are probably too overwhelmed to be able to take on new projects and enhancements. They should consider expanding the team so that they can take on more work.

Be very clear about the expectation of the outcome and what you’re trying to achieve. Trust the team more in their ability to come up with a solution. You don’t need to tell them everything, which is a good thing about working with them.

They used Vue to develop the platform and linked the site to the mobile app.
Through the process, they taught our internal team to maintain the platform and add features on our own.

I'm the Head of Technology for SMG Entertainment Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary for Star Media Group. Our company focus on OTT business, via our Web, Mobile and Smart TV Application Dimsum Entertainment.

We have been in the market for 4 years, and in these four year, we are constantly have to adapt market demand and technology changes. We need to ensure our development short timeline and high quality deliverables, for us to adapt to market needs.

This time, we have tasked Snappymob to migrate it from payment gateway, to a new payment gateway with additional feature support e.g. the migration of existing credit card & online banking payment, credit card bin and e-wallet support. We have a very complex backend payment integration with IAP, Direct Carrier Billing (With all major telcos) into our back end system.

Their job is to ensure the integration fully works, and in the same time with no error in development and data records. Payment integration are always our core component to ensure our Subscription Services are running and we can't afford to have any margin error.

We have actually shortlisted two company for this project. Eventually we have selected Snappymob due to below reasons:

Project Steps: They uses a straightforward flow for the development. Easy to kickstart and keep track.

1. Initial discussion : Before we decide which vendor to go with, we have a high level discussion on what we need, questions from Snappymob always runs in between development and business requirements.

2. Scoping Phase: Going detailed in the scope, it was very easy and straightforward experience doing the session. They acted as and SI as well to ensure that there's a balance between business requirements and technology development. I'm also happy with their honesty in terms of capability and timeline.

3. Development Phase: Development phase, there's constant update and follow-up from their team to us. Constantly asking the question and provide us with an update to ensure the delivery are right and on track.

4. UAT Phase : We gone through a comprehensive of UAT cases to ensure delivery are ready for production. Comment and request from our end are quickly process and resolved.

5. Production Delivery: They followup until the end to ensure our production delivery are completed.

6. Support during warranty period: They provide a 2 months warranty period to ensure any issue raised, they will resolved it immediately.

After release, we manage to get additional source of revenue based on the integration. Besides from that, we manage to get a few banks to collaborate with us with this feature enhancement.
