Given the project was design related, we will still build and beta test with specific users to start with.

But some of the outcomes we've looked at were mostly around problem solving (done internally):

It was a very healthy engagement, with changes and feedback being applied very fast. Carolina and José were team players and they understood well our problems to suggest meaningful change.

I’m the director of web marketing and strategy at Fortinet, a cybersecurity company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Pixelmatters?

We were creating an interactive maturity assessment tool targeting prospects at the middle stage of the buyer’s funnel. Pixelmatters was heavily involved in defining the UX/UI design of the entire project.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I had a project brief with rough wireframes that captured our requirements. This was enough for Pixelmatters to design the UX/UI. The deliverables included the starting page, multiple-choice questions, and a landing page that had a gated form with partially hidden survey results. The team also created a Thank You page, summarizing users’ scores across six key sections. 

Most sections were static, but the tool was dynamic since it worked based on the users’ responses and scores. Everything was curated and tailored to the user. The challenge for Pixelmatters was that we provided too much information, making the design experience clunky, cumbersome, and hard to follow. As such, the team helped us navigate the UX design and reformulate the entire positioning of the survey questions. They used Figma and delivered documentation through a Figma link. 

What is the team composition?

We mainly worked with Luis (Head of Design) and Bruno (Head of Product). 

How did you come to work with Pixelmatters?

I worked with Pixelmatters at another company, where they served as a full-service agency that did everything from development and design to QA testing and production. It was a great experience. I was particular about who I worked with, so having the opportunity to bring them back into the fold was exciting for me. 

What is the status of this engagement?

This project lasted from July–August 2024.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We gained marketing-qualified leads and sales-qualified opportunities in just four days of launching the tool. We also had meetings booked, which generated a pipeline. 

Overall, we provided Pixelmatters with our brand guidelines, and they expanded on them while keeping the deliverables authentic to our brand. As a result, the tool looked refreshed and elevated our brand visuals. I couldn’t speak highly enough of them — they were truly reliable. 

How did Pixelmatters perform from a project management standpoint?

They completed the project quickly. With other agencies, we’d lose an entire week to wireframing alone, and the UX/UI design could take 3–5 weeks before we could build anything. Pixematters did everything in a matter of two weeks. On top of that, they were based in Portugal, and I was in the US, but the timezone difference was never an issue. 

Moreover, their communication was exceptional, and they were organized. To communicate, we used Basecamp and Slack, which was truly helpful. 

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Luis was great. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Pixelmatters was good in cost, time, and quality, making them a rare agency. Other agencies couldn’t have all three of those qualities. They might have the time and quality, but they wouldn’t have the cost-effectiveness. They could lower their costs at other times, but we wouldn’t receive quality work. 

Somehow, Pixelmatters achieved all three — the budget was reasonable and competitive, the quality of their work was always high, and they worked swiftly. On top of that, they consistently delivered projects in this manner; these qualities weren’t isolated in this single project. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there weren’t any. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

For US-based clients, don’t let the time difference between you and their team be a detracting factor. You may assume that working with an offshore team results in time or quality issues. However, that’s not a problem when working with Pixelmatters.

We have noticed that candidates using our mobile applications have a greater engagement with job listings than those using our website. Continued progress will be refleected in future improvesments to continue enhancing the mobile experience for our candiates on the applications.

PixelMatters has been an accomodating, coomunicative & collaborative partner.  Their project management team has always worked well with their counterparts on our-side. PM is always willing to accomodate changes when the need arises. What challenge were you trying to address with Pixelmatters?

We needed an outside party to go over our job seeking platform, tell us what looked dated, and provide alternative concept designs. We went through Pixelmatters for that project.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement? 

Pixelmatters overhauled our job board’s design. In the beginning, they had a UX designer who came through and showed us where our platform’s direction could go. They relied on their vast knowledge of our audience and how that user base interacts with our website to develop simplified design concepts.

As our relationship continued to grow, we decided to incorporate Pixelmatters’ development team, too. That was nice because they’d already accumulated a lot of technical knowledge in-house. Their team worked with us over the course of two years to get us more acquainted with Vue.js.

In terms of features, they organized the site to be more networking-oriented. That means having job seeker registrations, updated recruiter profiles, and a mobile-responsive design.

We started going over potential redesigns in March 2015 and brought on the frontend team later in 2016. We’re still working with them on an hours-per-month basis. This works out to 60 hours for design concepts and two full-time developers.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The new design has become a point of pride for us. Before, we were so focused on getting jobs in front of customers. But, now, we’re invested in the networking side of things, and our design helps people make connections.

In the first year of launch, there was nearly a 120% increase in job seeker registrations. People were more interested in coming to our site, and we saw a large jump in connections. That meant that we’d made the right decision to focus on being a marketplace rather than just a job board.

How did Pixelmatters perform from a project management standpoint?

Since there’s a large time difference between our locations, their project manager handles the tickets and coordinates the development flow. I also have a standing call with three team members to make sure we were all going the same way during our sprints.

Biweekly meetings with senior-level management have also been helpful. We use those check-ins to go over what’s going well and what needs to change. Pixelmatters is receptive to that. They’re moving to become one big team rather than just our consultants.

In terms of tools, we incorporate Jira into our scrum meetings.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’ve assigned us more tenured developers, which means the ramp up time has been substantially quicker. It takes about three weeks to bring a new resource up to speed and working on a current story.

Beyond that, their value is in their name — the pixels matter to them. They’ll go to great lengths to conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) for new features, which I’ve never seen with any other company I’ve worked with. Once we deploy a feature, they’re already asking themselves, “how can we make this feature better?”

No, nothing stands out.

Give them a chance to show you what they can do with your site design and overall UX. You can get comfortable with them because they really know what they’re doing.

Pixelmatters have directly impacted out company OKRs, so those metrics are what we have used to judge success. Largely this comes down to significantly increased applications on the site.
