We're a critical communications technology company, providing integrated solutions with legendary reliability and support. Our company's integrated communications systems combine IP-based dispatch, NG9-1-1 call-taking, voice logging, and IP fire station alerting systems, CAD, mapping, automatic vehicle location (AVL), and video surveillance and security solutions.

What specific goals or objectives did you hire NXT LABS to accomplish?

• As a provider of mission-critical communications solutions for public safety agencies, we operate in an environment where reliability, speed, and interoperability are non-negotiable. We identified a pressing need to modernize one of our internal dispatch software platforms used by emergency response centers. The legacy system, though robust, lacked the flexibility, scalability, and user experience today’s operators demand. Our goal was to partner with a firm that could help us rebuild this software from the ground up, adding modern features such as real-time system monitoring, intuitive UI/UX, enhanced data synchronization, and seamless integration with third-party systems. We hired NXT LABS to help us not just modernize the technology stack, but design a future-ready platform that could scale with our public safety customers' evolving needs.

NXT LABS approached the project with a high degree of professionalism and technical maturity. Scope of Work and Key Deliverables:

• Discovery & System Redesign: They conducted extensive interviews with our stakeholders, including on-the-ground dispatchers, to identify usability pain points. This informed a complete UX/UI redesign that focused on clarity, low cognitive load, and rapid input response.
• Custom Software Architecture: NXT LABS re-engineered our platform with a modular, microservices-based backend architecture. This allowed for greater resilience and faster updates, which is essential in mission-critical environments.
• Integration Layer: They built a middleware solution that enabled seamless interoperability with existing communication systems, GIS mapping tools, and radio management software—eliminating previous workarounds and compatibility headaches.
• Real-Time Features: A highlight was the development of a real-time monitoring dashboard with alert triggers and status indicators, which significantly improved our incident management capabilities.
• Security & Compliance: Given the sensitive nature of our work, NXT LABS embedded robust encryption protocols and followed CJIS-compliant development practices, reassuring our partners and government clients.

An unexpected but welcome contribution was when they built an offline mode that allowed dispatchers to retain partial functionality during internet or system outages, a lifesaving feature for rural or disaster-prone areas.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

While our internal metrics showed strong improvements across system uptime and response speeds, the most noticeable change came from the user feedback we received from emergency dispatchers. Reports of UI confusion dropped dramatically, and training times for new operators were cut significantly.

We also saw a marked improvement in system reliability during stress testing and real-world incident simulations—especially under concurrent user load and data transmission spikes.

NXT LABS maintained a clear, organized, and collaborative project management style. They worked in agile sprints, providing us with weekly progress demos, a shared roadmap, and dedicated Slack and Jira channels for quick coordination.

They were incredibly responsive to change requests, even when those came mid-sprint. At one point, we had to prioritize a government integration earlier than scheduled, and their team adjusted seamlessly without missing any deadlines.

Also impressive was how they anticipated long-term maintenance needs by creating documentation and onboarding materials that made internal handoff easy for our tech support teams.
