We needed a partner to produce animated videos for our paid and product marketing campaigns, and MotionCue stepped up. They created 30-second to 2-minute videos tailored to our needs, delivering 5+ videos in different cuts and sizes. We used these across our ads and landing pages.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

First off, we saved a lot of time partnering with MotionCue since we didn't have an in-house video producer. We were able to launch video campaigns with the delivered assets which increased our reach through video marketing channels such as YouTube. We also saw increased engagement on our landing pages when we deployed the videos.

MotionCue always delivered assets on time for timely review. They were excellent at applying extensive feedback and always offered multiple options for voiceovers and BG music that fit the theme of the video.

We hire MotionCue for a variety of creative services based in visual storytelling including: sizzle animation videos, feature (explainer) videos, GIFs and static graphics, and other content. The primary goal of our content is building awareness and consideration with our primary audience. This content provides a concise visual means to showcase our product, services, and features to differentiate against competitors and build a knowledge base among decision makers.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We selected MotionCue amongst two waves of consideration: 10+ initial vendors, with a top 3 selection final process. Ultimately, MotionCue was selected (and to this day re-signed across dozens of sprints) due to their speed, efficient costs, and quality of design and storytelling. They also exhibit great communication and have developed a lot of trust within our stakeholders.

We start with a kickoff call for discovery to scope the time, budget, and design guidelines. This also includes understanding the story, audience, and key beat. From there, we go through the brief, storyboards, and drafts in the next week or so and iterate from there. When we need to be, MotionCue moves exceptionally fast and keeps our productions lean. This helps the feedback process as our stakeholders have something immediate and tangible to review. It is a very efficient and fast process.

We worked with a variety of leads on the team. Primarily Osama (Owner) is our main day to day contact for core kickoff and depending on project scope. We are also supported by PMs Ammad and Riffat. Feedback process is very efficient, and strongly recommend visual storyboard marked up to keep things moving.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Our videos typically have a strong benchmark for cost-per-view and quartile retention online. The views average 300K per asset. The stakeholders were also very pleased with time, budget, and quality - noting that we've set a higher bar with each execution with MotionCue.

MotionCue is very trustworthy and reliable. They are open to aligning towards client tools - based on volume and speed, we've asked them to use some of our CMS and communication tools (corporate policy).

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

MotionCue is committed to customer happiness. Simply put, they would iterate and execute changes at a speed and quality we had not seen with other groups before. The team is also a pleasure to work with, and the group we trust during high intensity beats.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

One area of growth that we've noticed is quality assurance. Due to the speed of our design requests, small tweaks needed to be revisited. That said, Osama took the feedback early on and ensured his PM and QA resources were buffed up and we have not had any concerns since. Again, the team is lean and responsive.

In addition to video production, what sets them apart is that they really put themselves in the client's situation and quickly grasped what messages needed to be communicated. They don't just do production, they add value in providing suggestion on messaging, how to make it more precise etc.

We had a search for video production agencies that can produce a professional video and MotionCue was one of the companies on our list.

We basically hired MotionCue to create a professional video based on their experience.
We had a meeting with Osama, MotionCue CEO and we agreed that they would handle the script writing, voice over and the video itself.

They started with the script writing, then they hired a voiceover artist, then they started to design the storyboard. There was some misunderstanding after the storyboard design since we wanted to have professional live filming shots in the video. We actually wanted to end the contract at this point and told MotionCue that we will happily pay for the scriptwriting and we totally understand that this type of videos isn’t their area of expertise but MotionCue insisted on doing the live filming.

After they did the live filming shots, we didn’t actually like them. The contract was on Upwork and MotionCue filed a dispute on Upwork to pay them 50% of the price and we didn’t have any option except to continue working with MotionCue to have any quality video that can be shared on our website and we requested to replace the live filming shots with a motion graphic animation.

In general, The team is trying to listen to our requirements and the result is ok but we would have been happier if they had made some suggestions to make the video much better or at least let us end the contract when we requested that so that we wouldn’t be driven to another video style and we would have time to think again but might be the team was enthusiastic to dive into something new and didn’t want us to leave them without having a result.

I worked with Osama, the CEO and Komal, the project manager. They communicate properly and listen to the feedback.

What is the status of this engagement?

MotionCue tries to follow the directions and won’t leave their customers unsatisfied. We were happy with the end result to have a video at least to share on our website but we weren’t happy with some points that happened at the project start after some misunderstanding.

How did your relationship with the vendor evolve?

We basically hired MotionCue to create a professional video based on their experience. After having the script written and the storyboard design, we requested from MotionCue to stop at this point and we said that we would happily pay them for the script because we found that there is some misunderstanding since we were thinking that there would be some live filming. We clarified this point after this misunderstanding and we wanted to stop at this point to think again about what we can do.

MotionCue team told us that there has been some work already done and told us that they will do the live filming. The live filming result was basic and MotionCue requested from us to pay them 50% of the price although we had requested from them to stop and pay them for the script before they do the live filming.

The contract was on Upwork and they filed a dispute about what happened to pay them 50% of the price. We didn’t want ourselves to be involved in problems and wanted to save the time to have a video at least to share on our website then we agreed to have another video with motion graphics and they redesigned the storyboard. We asked MotionCue to add some creativity in the video based on their experience.

The result was ok but we would have been happier if they guided us to make the video much better with much more creativity. A few months later after ending the contract, we knew that the same result can be achieved with any freelancer with a much lower budget and we were upset after knowing this fact . We contacted MotionCue about this and they confirmed that the price is a variable thing depending on the experience the company has.

We agreed about this point but we still think if MotionCue allowed us to end the contract in a friendly way and pay them for the script writing, we could think again about the process and rethink about the video cost again and see if we can hire a more specialized agency in live filming or see what we can do.

Sometimes, you would like to just stop and think again and the company should understand this.
Also, accepting the live filming is another point. We appreciate that they were trying to do it but if they had told us that they aren’t specialized in this category and advised us to find a more specialized agency, they would have saved us a lot of time and we would rethink again carefully.

At this point, we asked MotionCue if we made the video only screen recording video, would it lower the cost? They told us it would be the same price and we thought the screen recording is much simpler and we would have been happy to do this for them and they do only a few edits.

After the dispute they filed, we were in a situation where we had to complete the work with them and have at least any video to share on our website but the positive point is that they are trying to follow the directions and won’t leave the customer unsatisfied. They are a brand and they take care about their reputation. In the end, we were happy to have a video at least to share it on our website but weren’t happy with some points that happened at the project start that had driven us to change the video style.

No.

How was project management handled?

MotionCue has a dedicated project manager for the project. The project manager communicates properly and listens to the feedback.

Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?

They respond to emails very quickly.

In what specific areas can they improve?

It would be nicer if they could add more creativity and more flexibility at the cost.

What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?

It would be better to have a meeting with MotionCue to discuss every detail at the project before starting the contract so both parties are clear about the process and details.

They expected from us to tell them how to creatively design a storyboard. The last step was animating this basic storyboard.

I searched the internet viewing a plethora of video specialists, but struggled to find examples of anything I actually aspired towards, until I found MotionCue.

The process was simple and quick. MC took an initial brief and came back with a proposal. The process was thorough as we went through a number of storyboarding rounds before beginning to build. At one point I called in their copy team to help out, which was a big help. On the video build it was nailed within 4 rounds of feedback and revisions.

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

They seemed to understand the feedback given first time, I didn't have to keep repeating myself. Project management was strong and we got the whole process turned around very quickly.

Not yet, only because the site isn't live yet.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They got that I run a business that's actually quite boring, but that I wanted to make us stand out and somehow make us seem cool. We didn't go over the top in any way trying to do this, but the brutal simplicity and fun of what we created were great. We were massively impressed with their copy skills and have asked to work with them moving forward.

We probably should have cut the length of the video down before draft one. Having said this, it was more down to me wanting to include too much information about us initially.

They created the animations and they created the photos based on our equipment and cranes. They put it all together with animation, voiceover, and music.

We’re very happy with the final product. The new video efficiently communicates our message.  It looks great and it sounds great, too. It worked out really well. There’s a lot of people on each team and they did a good job of keeping us all on the same page. They came up with a routine and a process for us to streamline to make sure there was one person from each team speaking at once.

This is the first video of this type that we’ve done as a company, and it’s definitely something we’ll look into doing in the future for any other large projects that come up. It meshes well with our industry and audience.

We had an internal competition that we submitted our program to. Thus, we needed to effectively tell the story of our program development and implementation within a two-minute timeframe. It was a matter of condensing 18 months’ worth of work into two minutes.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We provided them with internal information and video clips that we had on file. MotionCue went through all of that and compiled a strong storyline to show the background, design, implementation, and results of the program. They didn’t do any live recording for us.

MotionCue provided guidance into best practices. They formulated the copy and storyboards and they handled the production and voiceover recording. Their team provided end-to-end video production.

We were in contact with two people from MotionCue. I’m sure they had a bigger team.

How did you come to work with MotionCue?

As part of the internal competition, we were advised to use a specific agency group. This group then provided us a list of agencies they’d worked with, of which MotionCue was one. I chose them because of their understanding of the internal competition within our organization. They knew exactly what the competition was all about and had previously-successful competition entries. The price was also a factor for me, along with the timeframe on which they could deliver the project.

What is the status of this engagement?

The work done by MotionCue took place between January and March 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

MotionCue had a very quick turnaround time and a clear understanding of what was required to deliver. They had the ability to look through mountains of collateral and decide which avenue to take. There were very few revisions on the project as a whole, taking into consideration other projects I’ve worked on before.
Overall, they were very clear in communication, and dedicated to the work stream they committed themselves to. Even though the project was small in value, they took it very seriously.

How did MotionCue perform from a project management standpoint?

They were very quick to respond and always available. They preempted scenarios and questions. I was really impressed with working with them. 

They’re good communicators, and they follow up and giving us necessary feedback. They don’t just take things and wait until we respond two months later. They’re also very good at time and client management. I definitely got the sense that they had the right qualifications and expertise in their team to deliver.

What did you find most impressive about them?

MotionCue was able to deliver on every request that we made. I really appreciated that. They have an approach that sees client’s needs and understands what we’re trying to accomplish.

If I had to say something, it would be nitpicky and wouldn’t add value.

The better the brief, the better the project will be delivered upon to the client’s expectations. MotionCue is good at understanding briefs, and they value the client’s input as well. They will deliver on time and in full.

Our parent company hosts a big marketing award every year, and MotionCue helped us craft a story and video around one of our project launches to help us apply for that award.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had a bunch of different marketing assets in place, such as an animation, a brochure, and other materials created by different agencies that we had prepared for the actual product launch. MotionCue came in and brought together a cohesive look and feel to that story in a way that helped us communicate the bigger picture.

The budget for the project was fairly small, so for the most part, their team focused on bringing together all those materials, and then on top of that they created an animated character who could tell the whole story. They provided the scripting and voiceover work for that process and went back and forth with us until we were satisfied with the final product.

I worked with two members of their team directly, but I believe there were other individuals helping them execute on the requirements behind the scenes.

Their company first showed up on a search through WeWork, and when we realized they had done some work on this competition in the past and had created some of the winning videos, we decided to work with them.

The project lasted from January–March 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We finished the first draft of the video several weeks ago, and from the beginning, everyone in the company was very happy with the quality of their work. I ran things by a lot of higher-ups at the company to make sure it was something the company would really be proud of and only got positive feedback. Hopefully we’ll find out we won, but either way, we are pleased with the results.

How did MotionCue perform from a project management standpoint?

One of the best aspects of the project was the timeline because they were able to help us put everything together in just 4–6 weeks. It definitely helped that they had experience in this specific competition because we were aligned from the beginning around timelines and were able to stay agile and flexible throughout the process because of that preparation.

They provided really good support throughout the project and were especially open to making changes as we approached the submission date. Their process was streamlined from beginning to end, which helped significantly in being able to execute on time.

What did you find most impressive about them?

MotionCue does an excellent job of taking all feedback into consideration and implementing it immediately, even if it’s a last-minute tweak. Being able to make sure that everyone was happy with the final product was something we all really appreciated.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I don’t think there’s anything they need to do differently. Obviously, things weren’t perfect from the beginning, but they have an excellent iterative process in place to work towards the final product quickly and effectively.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

As with any vendor, it is very important to come to the table with specific ideas and be willing to educate their team about your company and your goals. From an execution standpoint, having that platform to jump off of makes for a stronger partnership in the long run.

Once we finalized the script, they created a video using stock footage. It combines animation and live-action shots. I’m not sure whether they created any of the CGI content.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The video received unanimously positive feedback. They delivered exactly what I asked for because we went through a lot of revisions. They were great about making the necessary changes until we arrived at the final product. They did a particularly great job on the voiceover, which brought energy to the video.

How did MotionCue perform from a project management standpoint?

They were responsive — they’d always get back to me with what I needed within a day. The turnaround time was great.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I asked for a few final tweaks after we wrapped up, and offered them money—but they implemented those adjustments for free. They kept to the price they quoted for me, until the very end. It was awesome.

Are there any areas they could improve?

In the beginning, I wasn’t being responsive, and I would’ve appreciated if they’d pushed me a little. The video would’ve been completed faster if they’d followed up more frequently instead of waiting for me to respond. Having said that, they were better with that towards the end of the engagement.

Set strict guidelines and expectations and make sure to communicate these to them.
