Moon Technolabs worked on the development of an iPhone app called PeopleFlasher. I am the owner.

What challenge were you trying to address with Moon Technolabs?

About five years ago, when there were only about 30,000 apps, I thought of a goofy app and I needed someone to build it for me. It’s called PeopleFlasher. It sounds dirty but it’s not. The app turns the iPhone screen into a bulletin board that flashes messages that can be seen at quite a distance, for instance, across a restaurant. The user can enter his message by typing or dictation. We have a series of categories of messages for dining and traveling. My son even got involved making pickup lines. You can pick from presets or you can make your own on the spot. We developed it so that if you were traveling, you don’t have to speak the local language, you don’t have to understand them and they don’t have to understand English because the message flashes right in front of them. There are other bells and whistles as well. You can go into the app and there is a section of it called “world flash” where you can see who’s flashing in real time anyplace in the world and it’ll show the flashes sequentially.

If it’s a short message, it flashes on and off and if it’s a longer message, the message scrolls across the screen. The user can pick the colors but the font colors are very visible at a distance. I use it a lot to hail a taxi. I spot them half a mile away and they’re so intrigued when it says, “Taxi, Taxi, Taxi” that they sometimes pass other people and pick me up.

I found them on Elance. We had proposals from several providers. They seemed qualified to do the job and the price was right.

I priced it out here in the States and the cost would have been just under $50,000 to develop the app with all the bells and whistles from beginning to end. Moon Technolabs did it for under $2,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

My first contact with them was in July 2009. We did just the one project with them.

It was picked pretty quickly as an iPhone staff favorite. We have users in 42 countries.

What did you find most impressive about Moon Technolabs?

Jayanti, who was my contact, is just a pleasure to work with. He’s very responsive. I think I’ve only talked to him three times on the phone and we did everything by email very seamlessly. I would describe my work as “fly by the seat of my pants” because I was dreaming up goofy stuff as we went along. He was able to respond to zillions of changes, new ideas, and add-ons as we went along. It was kind of like writing music, you do it as you go along and that’s what we did. We ended up with a symphony.

Are there any areas Moon Technolabs could improve?

Because of the language barrier, the job had to be done 99% by email. There was a time difference, but that was easy for me because I just get up early. I’d get them before they had to go to bed. We got our time schedules together and we communicated very well by email.

One area for improvement could be stronger English communication, as occasional language barriers require some clarification. However, aside from that, the team was incredibly helpful, highly intelligent, and extremely efficient in executing the project. Not really an improvement on their end, but as the owner seeking their help I would say just be 100% specific on what you need and don't assume they know to add certain features if not instructed.

The company was created almost at the same time as the project with Moon. It is an application that is supposed to block gambling on the internet with a very high resistance to uninstallation. I am the founder and the future CEO as soon as the application is officially launched on the market. It is a project that I lead with several partner (friend) in parellel of our respective jobs and busy agenda.

This is our first major project. We have never developed such a technologically complex application. We were reassured by Moon Technolabs because it is a big company very well established in India and with a solid worldwide reputation. They have a large and highly qualified staff.

There are many skills under one roof, something quite rare in the industry today. Finally, we were impressed with their past client portfolio. Some great companies and projects have been done with them in the past. Finally the big boos, Jayanti is a very inspirational leader

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

What reassured us is Moon, is the very wide range of skills that have in-house. He masters all the skills from start to finish. I find that the price per hour for complex requests outside the scope of work are very competitive. Finally, the price of the project is very reasonable. No additional costs outside the scope of work have been requested.

After a very long meeting, we set up the goals and objectives. Moon Technolabs participated in the beginning and for free in the framing of the project which was not yet mature. They greatly participated in the modelling of the project. The design was done very quickly. Then followed a year of back and forth and progress to arrive at a beta version much better than 90% of competing apps available on the market.

About fifteen people under the leadership of a dedicated project manager. Divided in 3 groups. One for Android, one for Windows and one for Mac. Each group is under the guidance of a leader. The Android group was particularly good.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Based on the technical promise of our marketing department (technically realized by Moon Technolabs) we have a lot of registrations. Moon has succeeded in propelling some technology that is still not very present on the market of parental control applications such as live nudity detection.

If there is a problem, I always have the beginning of an answer within the hour. They are always there to organize a call. At the beginning, it takes some practice to understand the Indian accent. In any case, no problem is left without a solution. I recommend them and I intend to keep them for a second project still in the pipeline

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The team is very qualified. I don't recall hearing from them once that something was impossible or without alternative solutions. Great ability to solve complex problems under tight deadlines. The work flow is fairly steady week after week. Their work scales are weekly. Sometimes they go so fast that I don't always have time to give feedback.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

The most important thing is that they respect the best practices and are even able to do better than what is already offered on the market. However, I would have liked to have more feedback and visibility on the deadlines.

Diaspora Freight Forwarding is a Canadian freight forwarding company that ships mostly to Africa on behalf of Africans in diaspora. I am one of the managing partners.

I contacted Moon Technolabs Pvt Ltd with the intentions to develop an App called "Port Eye". Port Eye gives Africans in diaspora the ability for them to know their "Estimated Time of Release" from the port in Africa. They are able to track and see the status of their shipment after the Estimated time of Arrival.

We are able to updates these customers in real time the clearing progress of their shipment, make payment directly to customs, upload invoice and chat in real time with one of our port agents. They are well organized, it was fun working with all the team members, Jiyanti, Krunal, W12, D4 and D5 cheers guys!!!

I selected Moon Techlabs out of all the other guys based on the first advise they gave me, which was that they would rather develop a web app for me instead of an app that i initially wanted them to develop. He saved me money right there and for me, he choose to satisfy customers than exploiting them.

Another deciding factor was the fact that after i explained my idea to them. They presented it to me as the scope of the work and it was so clear right now. At this time, i realised i had to be serious, because i just signed up. They give you To-Do list and you must submit within a specific time otherwise they won't we will stuck on the project.

Am 100% my clients would love it, because its first of its kind in Africa.Its a transparent process which a lot of Africans love but they lack due to some corrupts agent back in Africa.

Since Feb 2019 we are working with Moon Technolabs and continue to do so many more years to complete 14 more apps. This is really a phenomenal experience to work with their designing & development team. They have added unexpected functionalities to our business portal. Team members are very hard working to get innovative ideas and implement those changes very quickly as per the latest trends & technologies.

We really admire their work process and development style in enhancing productivity and saving time and money.

Well, we got the end-to-end online store solution by integrating crypto for our clients as they can use our mobile app for easy payment apart from other modules.
