We came to an agreement with the Latitude team to collaborate on this project from the RFP response phase. I worked with their CEO, Jay on our strategy and approach to the response to the RFP and how we could combine the design & UX strengths of my team with strengths of his team to produce great work for Emery County Libraries.

They were looking for a modern design that could be powered by a user friendly a CMS for their staff to make needed updates to content for each library branch. They also asked us to help them create a new branding and guidelines that would strengthen the trust and vision of the organization

Tasks We Handled:

Approach:

• Conducted a heuristic review and code audit of existing site

Solutions:

Initially working closely with the Latitude team, we put together an overall development plan for the design and development of the new site. Once we had a work breakdown structure agreed upon, we focused on creation of new branding with accompanying style tiles for use in the site design. The Latitude team contributed in this effort with their design staff working with me on design iterations and possibilities.

Next we created a new information architecture for both the user and admin features. These were used to craft wiref-rames that demonstrated the new proposed design concepts. The new sited was developed with the Latitude team working with me for front-end code and them handling all back-end code for site, and published to existing servers.

This included the ability for branch staff to add and edit content on their own, as opposed to only being able to upload static pdf newsletters as they were limited to on their old site.

Affect/Outcome: 

1. Client was able to manage and maintain the site on their own internally.
2. Posts and content for the main library and all branches were able to be posted at regular intervals

We completed the project on schedule and within our proposed budget. Jay and his team were always responsive, proactive, and great colleagues to work with. We highly recommend them.

Like anywhere else, there's always a place for improvement. if you require better QA you should expect a slower dev cycle and that's a matter of balance that you can choose to manage together with LT. Jay is a high touch communicator who does a great job of documenting the project from concept to LIVE status in the app stores. He is a great problem solver and critical thinker who helped us deal with challenges that arose through the entire process, including Apple's initial rejection of our app. He made necessary changes to help us get it approved.

Very effective. High communication throughout the process.

I don't know if this is an area of improvement but one thing we realized throughout the process is that we needed to have more than one point of contact in case our PM got sick or left the company, etc. So, I would recommend providing multiple back up contacts within the company so the process and development don't get stalled or interrupted by illness or death.
