Despite the rush, the app’s interface came out polished and totally in line with what we were envisioning. Communication was constant and easy, and Slack was our main tool, and updates came so fast it felt like they were right in the room with us. Their process for gathering requirements was super detailed, which helped us clarify our ideas and kept everyone aligned.

For example, they came up with creative solutions for button placements and even wrote example text for different sections. That made the process much smoother because instead of me starting from scratch, I could review their templates and give feedback.

What challenge were you trying to address with JPLoft?

We have been trying to build a mobile app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We have approached JPLoft with an idea for a mobile app for iOS and Android, along with basic wireframes and high-level requirements. The system consists of a parent application that controls a child application installed on the kid's device, and JPLoft has been responsible for building the app from scratch.

We have completed the initial design ourselves and provided it to them, but JPLoft has been our sole R&D source for the project. Since that initial design, many changes have been made, so we have been relying on their expertise.

We have used Flutter for the parent app, as it allows us to publish it on both platforms. However, the level of control we need over the device for the child app has not been achievable using Flutter, so JPLoft has rebuilt the kid's app natively on Android. The list of technologies they have used and tasks they are responsible for is extensive, leveraging specific capabilities of their chosen programming languages.

What is the team composition?

I’m primarily in contact with two people: Rahul, the team leader and account manager for this project, and Vishal, the head of development. We work closely with Rahul, who liaises with all the teams. While other people have been involved, Rahul remains my main contact, and Vishal participates in most of our calls.

How did you come to work with JPLoft?

We published our project on Upwork, and JPLoft was one of many applicants. We ran an RFP to gather offerings, and they sent us their proposal. We asked them extensive technical questions and implemented a three-level filtering process to evaluate their expertise, confidence in their ability to deliver, and balance between skills and cost. JPLoft made it to the top three, and we ultimately awarded them the contract.

We’ve spent between $50,000–$100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We have been working together since March 2023, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

JPLoft has helped us build our first product. Throughout the process, we’ve encountered many challenges and unknowns, and Rahul’s team has been instrumental in helping us resolve them. The project has turned out to be more complex than expected, and there have been many opportunities for them to walk away, but they’ve stayed with us, which we truly appreciate.

We’re now in the final stages of launching the product. We began showing it to potential users and conducting beta testing in October 2024. We expect to launch in the next month or two, so we don’t have revenue metrics yet, but the app works, and that’s our main KPI. We also appreciate that they’ve been transparent about being a startup, acknowledging that they don’t have all the answers, yet they’ve worked alongside us to bring clarity to the project.

We value JPLoft’s tenacity, follow-through, and commitment to our project. This has been shown in many ways, including their flexibility in payment terms, willingness to research topics we haven’t solved, and ability to explore various solutions with us.

How did JPLoft perform from a project management standpoint?

Schedules aren’t relevant for us. At every stage, we’ve realized there are more things we need to do that we haven’t accounted for. I thought we’d build it in three months, but I had no idea what I was walking into. The most important part is that we are still working together, and we expect to continue working with them in the long term after this initial project.

They are also great at communication. They constantly seek clarity, validate that they understand the mission, ask for feedback, and remain responsive to our comments. We have a lot of phone calls, regular Google Meet calls, and constant WhatsApp communication.

The most impressive part of JPLoft is their commitment.

Are there any areas they could improve?

This feedback may be more for my team and me than for JPLoft, but what I’ve learned through the time working with them is the importance of being clear and concise in our requests. We need to provide clear guidance on what we expect for progress to happen, especially when working with an outsourced or remote team. They won’t fill in the gaps for us.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice for JPLoft’s potential clients is to use the first stage of the process to thoroughly evaluate the architecture and final result they want to build. This will allow JPLoft to research and gather as much detail as possible so both sides can assess the project’s scope, including what needs to be built, how long it will take, and the expected cost. However, if they’re a startup like me and lack the ability to do this, they should have confidence that JPLoft will work with them every step of the way.

I listed all the areas that needed to be fixed and improved, and the JPLoft team rebuilt my Android and iOS apps completely. They did not stop there but went beyond what we required, fixed all the technical issues, and reviewed the code we gave them using Flutter. They suggested some features regarding payment functions and security, which we found great and added. We're currently proposing to work on other projects we have. They have taken them as our technical department and in-house partner.

We are now at the spot of submitting our app to the stores for download and use. We will be waiting to have our users' feedback. However, what we have got and tested on our end is better than what our previous developer did. That JPLoft could even agree to work on our existing code was amazing because hardly any developers would want to work on existing codes. They saved us from writing from scratch.

Their management was efficient and transparent. We used tools like Jira to monitor our progress and track tasks. We connected via email and Slack and got on a call whenever we needed something with more clarity and urgency.

Items were delivered in a timely manner and he was very good about implementing my requirements and changes as needed. The initial scoping meeting was very helpful to ensure we were all on the same page and that JPLoft could implement what I envisioned for the site.

I was impressed by their fast turn-around and especially their responsiveness to my feedback and requests. Even though we were working with an approximate 12-hour time difference, they were willing to schedule meetings at a time that worked well for me. I think we both became more comfortable in understanding the requirements on both ends (technical and project vision). We were also able to figure out optimal times for meeting on the project.

Are there any areas for improvement or something JPLoft could have done differently?

As this was my first attempt at implementing a project like this, I must admit I did not have the procedural knowledge necessary at the beginning of the project. This led to a few miscommunications, which I take responsibility for. The JPLoft team worked with me on bringing me up to speed and helping me understand the stages and industry standard practices for a project like this.
What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours? 
JPLoft is a great company to work with. I found it helpful to send them a scoping document at the beginning of the process to have all of the project requirements listed in detail.

The scope of the work was to make an app for computers that would video record chiropractic students and professors from 4 cameras. The results would be displayed on a monitor that showed a comparison of the student's videos with the professor's. The students and professors would login, choose a class, and then the system would place the videos in the correct folders.

The app they created does compare videos from the professor and students. They both can login, choose a class, the professor can enter a description of the lecture, there are breadcrumbs that show the user where they are in the app, The AI component works. They added a feature to the joint tracking that is better that what I designed.

Mukul and Yashwant were the primary people that worked on the project. They both responded to emails quickly, ususally within a day. Changes to the project were needed as it progressed. They listened and always made the changes without complaining. Sometimes they made suggestions to make it better; and sometimes the suggestions were done and it made the app better.
