We needed a developer to help us create an augmented reality app based on one of our client’s engineering projects.

We did the design work, providing Intelivita with wireframes and documentation. They then built native versions for iOS and Android before assisting with submission to the App Store and Google Play.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Overall, the quality of the finished app was great. We worked well together in terms of modeling and our designers were pleased with the end result.

How did Intelivita perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicated primarily via email, which wasn’t the most efficient method. Intelivita relied on outsourced developers. This was not made clear in the beginning and ended up causing frequent delays as our project manager had to receive answers from the development team before responding to our questions. This lack of responsiveness resulted in small mistakes along the way and ultimately slowed down the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We were impressed by the quality of the final product. They were also very flexible, quickly executing any changes we requested.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would be helpful if they provided a clearly articulated schedule and improved their responsiveness.

I am the CEO of a mobile app development company that makes games for iOS, Android, Amazon and web.

What challenge were you trying to address with Intelivita?

We had undertaken smaller projects, but we were trying to start a bigger one for a multiplayer game. We needed someone to complete the programming for us on that project.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Intelivita undertook all of the programming, including mobile, servers, gameplay, etc. Unity allows us to develop for iOS, Android, Amazon, and web. We provided the specs, wireframes, and screenshots of everything we wanted, so they only had to reproduce the app from a programming perspective.

They also provided input on how to make the app better and some graphics, but we’d produced most of the graphics prior to their involvement.

What is the team composition?

Six to eight people from their side were involved at a minimum. There were also QA testers from their side; this is a great feature that many other services don’t offer. The team size depended on how involved each person was. Some were there for a couple of hours, while others were there for many months at a time.

How did you come to work with Intelivita?

I heard about them through PeoplePerHour. I talked to around 30 companies prior to hiring Intelivita. We had a bigger project and, while other companies offered to do it, they didn’t have experience with games similar to the one we were working on. I spoke to a couple of Intelivita’s past clients who had good things to say about them. Overall, they were the most suitable out of all the companies we talked to.

How much have you invested with them?

The cost of their work has been $30,000–$35,000 or more with very clear specs and wireframes.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Intelivita in May 2016. Their part is almost complete. We’re still working on the effects and there will be other items afterward. We plan to continue working with them and have discussed our next project already.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I double-checked their source code with other high-end programmers in the field and the feedback has been very good. Clean code makes it easier for someone else to step in.

How did Intelivita perform from a project management standpoint?

They responded fast and were on task—usually via WhatsApp. I bugged them more than I should have, but they were professional and kept me informed of what was going on at all times. My experience with other developers is that it’s hard to have people and programming skills, but Intelivita nailed both.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Dhaval is great at solving issues. No project is perfect, and this is okay, but I’ve appreciated Intelivita’s ability to deal with these situations professionally and to get things back on the right track. They’re able to take on much more challenging projects than many other companies out there. Intelivita was able to bring in different teams for different parts, which was great because we also had a need for server and game design expertise. Had I had to bring in other teams to work with each other, it would have been more challenging from my end. Much of this happened behind the scenes; I wasn’t aware when additional people were brought in when a skill set was needed. Their goal was to build a quality product, which I really liked.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We have continuously worked with Intelivita and given them feedback on issues. Having clear documents helps them perform better, and it is a team effort. For example, with the gameplay, my original approach was to build it, test it, and make tweaks. This was something that ended up taking more time because the gameplay wasn’t described clearly in my instructions. Providing GIF examples leads to a much better experience in working with them.

They developed an iOS version of our native Android app. Emphasis was placed on reproducing the app’s features and translating the full experience to iOS.

We spoke primarily with the project manager and on occasion, the lead developer.

We were looking for developers on PeoplePerHour to fix bugs on the Android app. After receiving various proposals, we hired Intelivita. They performed that task well so we contracted them to develop the iOS version.

We spent about £3,000 [$4,021].

This project took place September 2017–November 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our users wanted the app on iOS for a long time and the feedback is evident of that. We’ve received a number of positive reviews on the App Store from users that say they’ve enjoyed the experience. A couple minor differences between the iOS and Android versions make the former easier to use than the latter.

How did Intelivita perform from a project management standpoint?

I've used a lot of web development companies over the last 20 years and the biggest challenge I find with them is not a lack of technical skills, but a lack of communication skills. However, I didn't have any issue in that regard while working with Intelivita. Being in the UK, their project manager was always available if I needed to call him. He often answered emails within an hour or two, but certainly within 24 hours and even on weekends. The lead developer and his team are based in India so we mostly communicated through the project manager. However, the lead developer assisted in solving specific development issues when necessary, via Skype.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their geographically split team was beneficial in terms of cost, quality, and communication. The project being managed in the UK, we could easily speak with someone who understood our app and the experience we wanted to cultivate. However, the development costs weren’t astronomical because their team’s offshore.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of a specific area they could improve on. They offer a cost-effective service and I was happy with the experience.

General advice for working with any company is to make sure the project details and scope are thorough and communicated effectively.

We wanted to begin the process of market validation. I wanted to see how many users I could interest in downloading the app.

I came across Oliver Baker [iOS and Android Developer, Intelivita] on a website for programmers. We discussed my proposal via email, particularly what it would cost to build an MVP [minimum viable product]. The price seemed reasonable, but we only met a couple of months later to discuss the start of the app development.

I had already built the screenshots for the app, but there were additional features that were required. From there, it was just a matter of making sure that they understood what I wanted the app to look like.

They provide me with screenshots of the app design to make sure that they can proceed. They respond quickly to any issues.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It has been easy to communicate with their project manager. I check my emails a lot to make sure I don’t miss his messages. I usually respond quickly since I want to be sure they are on the right track.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I’ve noticed that they are quick to respond to changes required for the app. They let me know when there’s a problem with the app and send updates as soon as it’s fixed.

What challenge were you trying to address with Intelivita?

We needed someone to create a mobile application for us. It was difficult to find someone who was cost-effective and also knew what they were doing with augmented reality.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I’m a graphic artist by trade, so I designed the frontend and user experience of the app. I gave the screenshot to Intelivita, and they did the code-level support and actual coding of the iOS and Android app.

They created an augmented reality, cross-platform app. It’s the first collage-style app where users can view images from their camera rolls or galleries on their phones. Users can create a collage and then view what it would look like prior to getting it printed at local stores.

They tested it and did the edits and changes, and then sent me back either screenshots or new builds. I’d download it on my phone, try it out, and give my feedback. It was a calibration exercise. They published the app for me, and also added Google AdMob, so we have advertisements on it as well (which users have the option to remove).

They’re developing another app for me as well.

There were 3–4 people on the team.

How did you come to work with Intelivita?

I was working with another freelance app developer before I found Intelivita. He was a single developer working from home, and wasn’t very proactive in fulfilling work. I thought I would have to pay for the app to be developed again due to the difficulty of finding people willing to work on the same code.

I looked on a freelancing website and contacted Oliver [Project Manager, Intelivita]. I sent him some details and he said that it was something they’d love to work on. I found that Intelivita could provide a good level of service for us, and that they had everything we wanted at the right price. They were also willing to work on the already-existing code. I couldn’t have been happier.

We started working together in June of 2017, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The feedback has been focused on the app’s innovative and unique qualities. It does what it promises. I’ve received suggestions, but no negative feedback.

How did Intelivita perform from a project management standpoint?

They performed very well. We communicate through Skype. They’re really proactive and good at communication, as well as making suggestions. We experienced no issues, despite a time difference. They have offices in both the U.K. and India.

I’ve worked with companies in the far east before, and it wasn’t easy because of the time differences and language barriers. It was quite refreshing to find someone who worked well with me. I would use them again without question. I highly recommend them. They produce high-quality work at a good price. I have nothing but good things to say.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They know what they’re doing, and the communication is good. They always respond quickly. We were never left questioning anything.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. I’m very pleased with the service they’ve provided.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

It may be a totally different experience for someone who doesn’t have graphic design capabilities, like myself. The only advice I can offer is to have some sort of sketch or Photoshop screenshot that they can utilize. Give as much information as possible, and it will save a lot of time and energy later on.

We had an issue with the first launch not working correctly, and then Intelivita carried out further development for another six months until we were live.

We wanted all this completed within a year, intelavita completed this within the time frame, communication was prompt and they were all very friendly. They also created a website which promotes our app in a very short amount of time, completing multiple changes if we didn't like the information we provided.

At every milestone they would provide a test app, and we would go through it and see what we wanted tweaking,the team at  intelavita were very helpful to do this, and communication was prompt. We had multiple test apps, which showed the progression intelavita was making.

Every single milestone of the app was delivered promptly and on time, communication was extremely quick, our project manager shishir would always reply very quickly and he would get down to the bottom of things quickly if something was wrong.

I came to Oliver at Intelivita back in September with my business plan and a some PDF slides I had made. He understood my concept immediately and gave me a clear outline of how they would build the app and how long it would take.

He then introduced me to Shishir and the team who helped me the rest of the way.

I am a creative myself and admittedly can be a bit difficult, going back and forth on small changes, or the slightest adjustment to spacing and the team have been great and very understanding.

I now have a brilliant app on the app stores which both aesthetically and functionally surpasses what I originally had in mind, I’m really proud and my company is set for good things.

Given the time difference communication has been seamless and I’m never waiting long for a reply.
