We went to Illiyin Studio with an idea and some initial sketches, and they helped translate that into a prototype we could run with in our early stages. The work was extremely valuable and allowed us to get much clearer on the decisions we needed to make and the operational logistics we still had to figure out.

The team at Illiyin was professional, responsive, and flexible with our needs throughout the process. Our designer in particular went above and beyond to bring our concepts to life, and we were very happy with the overall result and the foundation it gave us moving forward.

Overall, the prototype Illiyin created was extremely helpful for us at an early stage and played an important role in helping us move the project forward.

f I were to share areas for improvement, one would be that much of the direction had to come from our side. Because we were often sketching exactly what we wanted, I would have loved to see more proactive design suggestions or problem-solving from the team at different stages based on their experience and perspective.

The second is that some pages in the prototype were not fully designed or linked together correctly. It didn’t seem like a major issue initially, but it did create some challenges later when we began testing the product and walking others through the flows.

The project delivered measurable improvements in Nova Horizon’s digital presence and marketing capabilities. Illiyin Studio had provided around 2-3 iterations for the couple of screens we had provided to them. The iterations were different from one another, which provided us with the opportunity to think in isolation and choose the appropriate ones.

Yes, Illiyin Studio delivered in time. I especially commend the communication skills of Nisa, who I have always found comfortable to work with. Nisa was able to understand my requirement, quick to respond to my queries without any delays, and this made the communication easy.

I have found Illiyin Studio to have a good quality and portfolio of UI designs and innovative in the ways the designers think.

I am not saying that Illiyin Studio is expensive in absolute terms, i.e. the larger companies with big budgets would find it reasonable to hire Illiyin Studio. However, bootstrapped ventures like mine who are dealing on social projects and paying from personal savings will still find it expensive to hire Illiyin Studio. Just as an example, I have website waiting to be built, and if not for the budget I would have been delighted to hire Illiyin Studio immediately to complete the piece of work. A social project to reach children from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds practice on their maths skills, and I hope they Illiyin Studio will build our website. On the skills side (as opposed to the costs), I have no suggestions for Illiyin's improvements. They are great!

I'm a co-founder of a health and wellness marketplace startup. Our marketplace is an online booking website that allows consumers to search and book with health and wellness service providers.

We hired Illiyin to design our entire web platform from scratch. This is a large project that consisted of many modules. Completed designs were handed off to our development firm.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We conducted a 3 part interview process to select the best firm we could find. We reached out to 160 designers on dribbble. We shortlisted down to 60 and invited them to participate in our design contest. Only about 20 accepted. In that design contest we issued a list of scope requirements and had the participants design a homepage.

Out of that design contest, Illiyin came out in 1st position. We had many deciding factors such as communication skills, level of understanding in our design contest scope as well as accuracy in execution, pricing, designer's portfolio and specialties, design style, morals and ethics, etc.

Our goal was to search for a long-term design partner that we could count on for many years to come. We didn't want to spend time down the road searching for another design firm because things didn't work out. We wanted to do things right from the start. Overall we were very impressed with their performance in the design contest and were confident they were going to be our best option.

The scope was to design an entire service booking marketplace from scratch. We provided a few guidelines when it came to our brand, mission, and vision. Our scope consisted of designing the following:

• User onboarding for 3 different types of users
• User portals for 3 different types of users

• Illustrations and Animations
• Search Results and Map
• Booking process
• All designs were created to be responsive in desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
• All designs were created in Figma.

Illiyin has many more designers on staff. However, we only needed 2 designers.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Each module was completed to our satisfaction. Illiyin provided many revisions until we were happy with the end result. It has been about 8 months working with Illiyin and so far they have completed about 7/8 modules. We are close to completing phase 1 of our product and will definitely be working with Illiyin in the future to design future phases of our product.

Illiyin is a hard-working firm. They were very flexible and accommodating to us. There were times when we had to expedite our deadline last minute and Illiyin's designers were flexible and dedicated to working weekends so we could finish on time. Illiyin's estimation of each module's timeline was also fairly accurate. However, you will need to keep in mind that their estimate does not account for the number of times you will request revisions.

We were the type of client to have many revisions and therefore a module may take us double the time they had originally estimated due to our many revisions. This is primarily due to our design process which is highly iterative. Our scope requirements are not fixed in stone as we always are open to a better design solution. This is a factor we really appreciate from Illiyin as they always produce a result that we are very happy with.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Something we find very unique about Illiyin is that they are very professional. They've taken our project very seriously and ended up creating a design and solution that is truly one of a kind when we finally launch our product on the market. Illiyin is a firm that focuses on startups and we took that into consideration when we were finding designers. We wanted to work with a design firm that had experience helping startups launch and grow and someone that we can count on for expert advice.

Illiyin's portfolio also has a very unique modern and clean style. We had spent hours reviewing portfolios and Illiyin's was very memorable. Another factor in our consideration is that Illiyin is located in Indonesia. Although our startup is based in the US our team's roots are based in Indonesia and we have grown to see Illiyin as an extension of our small family startup.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

There's always room for improvement. The beginning stages were a bit rough. It was our first time working with a designer and we were unfamiliar with the process. Keeping track of all of the revisions we had as well as the status of each revision was challenging. Eventually, we overcame that by creating a Google sheet to track all of the progress and revisions. Working with Illiyin now has been a smooth process.

There have been so many, but in general it starts with a simple or complex design brief, depending on what is being requested. We leverage a simple Trello board for organizing and controlling priorities for their team. The design brief is submitted, put into queue, then reviewed in Figma once drafts are ready. Feedback is provided, updates are made quickly and then we either stay in that feedback cycle until complete, or if complete, take the asset created and move forward.

3-4 over the last year or so. Mostly designers.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

For the number of projects we've completed with Illiyin, it has been remarkable how consistent things are. Only a couple times has the quality dropped, and when it did, we addressed it with them and got immediate turnaround. No company is perfect so it is important to find a partner that recognizes when things don't got to plan and make it right. They do that every time - although that doesn't happen very often. From our brand standards, marketing pieces, website and even our SaaS platform, the outcomes are every in our business.

Very effective. Mentioned previously but the workflow is simple - design briefs, Trello for management, and Figma for design reviews.

Their commitment to getting it right and making us happy no matter how many revision requests we have is impressive.

I can't think of anything substantial. We enjoy working with them and are considering moving more aspects to them, including the management of our website.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Illiyin Studio has developed and implemented our mobile and website platforms' UX/UI using Figma, Webflow, HTML, and JavaScript. At the beginning of the partnership, they analyzed existing online providers. During that research, we realized that many existing UIs weren't very user-friendly because of the quantity of information provided. Therefore, we knew we needed a well-organized design that directed users' focus to where we needed it. 

Then, they collaborated with our team on the UI, implementing our requested features. Illiyin Studio's team also provided some recommendations about the features we wanted based on their market research. The entire UI was built from the ground up.

We're getting a lot of positive feedback about the UX/UI; it's unique, functional, and beautiful. 

How did Illiyin Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

Our communication with Illiyin Studio's team is very clear; we utilize Slack, and they respond to our messages within an hour. In general. I'm satisfied with their project management. We used Trello to coordinate the project. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Illiyin Studio's quality of work is really impressive. I don't have to go into detail about the project to get exactly what I want. With their experience and capabilities, they can create high-quality deliverables. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Since English isn't their first language, I sometimes have to liaison directly with the project manager, who is fluent in English, to explain our feedback. It would be beneficial if they added another coordinator with better language skills.

We had a far better user experience and our users were happier to use our app. our user retention increased.

Their illustration process was very thorough and in line with the stories briefed. They were responsive to feedback and open to exploring the brand creatively when requested. Internal stakeholders were impressed at the quality of work produced.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The project tool was great and sent email notifications when updates had been made so that you could review and provide feedback. It also was great to easily refer back to previous versions of work. It was very easy.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Responsiveness, professionalism, and quality of work.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Not at this stage, the process could have been faster, however, we were all new to the Brand principles, and reflecting back I'm sure we will have the confidence on the direction for future work with the team.
