Honeycomb Software created several UX flows in the clickable app prototype. Honeycomb Software had very good communication: we agreed on regular meetings to review and direct progress, we agreed on what communication channels we'd use (we chose Slack, comments in Figma, regular virtual meetings, and to a lesser degree email). 

Their questions were clear, and they immediately understood what we wanted technically as well as timeline and budget. I very much appreciated Honeycomb Software's great insight and advice on how to create the right user experience. They created a high quality, professional app prototype for Android and iOS.

To remain competitive in the market, it's essential to enhance the product by integrating new features and advanced analytics that align with evolving business dynamics and cater to customer demands.

Ligo is a platform which allows users to connect with STEM talent across organizations and research institutions, to develop collaborative projects aimed at solving open innovation challenges within industries. We are launching an MVP to validate product-market fit, so we wanted it to work well and be a great product for users. That’s why we started to collaborate with Honeycomb Software, as we needed testing services.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

After a few meetings and intro with the QA Engineer, we started the testing process. QA Engineer started with exploration testing of the platform and submitted the issues found in the Trello bug board with the attachments and repro steps. The development team had an opportunity to track it and work on fixing those issues. We were able to perform regression testing of the platform as well, which helped us to improve the product even more.

The project went initially through user experience validation using UX wireframes and a high-fidelity prototype. After insights were collected from this initial testing, we started developing a functional MVP and performed QA testing with Honeycomb Software to identify and correct bugs in the platform.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The main goal was to prepare the product for release. The result of the QA work was 30 reported issues, almost 50% of which were fixed and retested right away, the rest left to be handled in due course of work. The cooperation with the QA also gave us possible ideas for further improvement of our product.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

At the very beginning, we outlined the scope which was subject to testing prior to our release and were able to see the progress according to the planned schedule. We were very flexible in our communication. Test reports were sent to us through e-mail, but also there was extensive effective communication of the QA with the developers in Discord messenger, which allowed instant feedback. There were also zoom calls once or twice a week to align our efforts.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We appreciate the support during the testing process. The communication was great, and if we wanted to discuss something, we just jumped on a call and worked out a solution. Additionally, we got the opportunity to communicate with the QA lead as needed. We were also surprised by the quality of the deliverables and the test log that was provided, which allowed our development team to seamlessly replicate errors and helped us refine our own bug-fixing process.

So far, Honeycomb Software has exceeded our expectations. Initially, we planned to get our software to a certain stage by the end of 2022 with at least four developers. However, we’ve managed to reach that stage with just one full-time developer from our team and theirs. Overall, their team has been very efficient with their work.

They’ve done a perfect job from a project management standpoint — most of the work is completed ahead of schedule. For communication, we interact via Google Meet and email.
 
Are there any areas they could improve?

At one point, we were looking for a more senior developer because we felt that the person that was pushed forward was not fulfilling our needs. That was the only moment when we decided against expanding our relationship.

Honeycomb Software helped us design and develop our MVP. Initially, I provided them with a base code and some ideas for the UI/UX, although our input was very rudimentary. Therefore, they were in charge of developing almost the entire product. The technology stack was a mixture of Python and React, and we hosted the solution in Microsoft Azure.

I had a great experience working with Honeycomb Software, and they ultimately delivered a product we could both stand behind.

How did Honeycomb Software perform from a project management standpoint?

Initially, we worked together on a requirements document detailing our vision for the MVP, our needs, and the steps needed to complete the product, which made the process very transparent. Moreover, the project manager gave me access to their Slack channel and the project management side of Microsoft Azure, which they used to keep track of tasks. Therefore, anytime I wanted to check on the progress, I could simply log in and figure out what Honeycomb Software was doing.

As for communication, Honeycomb Software was incredibly responsive. Anytime I had a question, they answered immediately; there wasn’t any delay in our communication. In addition to our regular interactions via Slack, we had at least a weekly meeting via Microsoft Teams.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

As a result of tight cooperation, we successfully created MVP using react/redux/graphQL technologies and migrated to Progressive Web App at some point to have maximum mobile device support. Currently, we are working on new business features, maintaining the platform, and implementing customisations for existing customers.

The management style was transforming while developing, and right now we work with the sprints model. We are always in touch and exchanging feedback, which allows us to adjust priorities and improve the product. We use Microsoft Teams for communication, a convenient tool which covers our needs.
