The Hidden Brain is our staff augmentation partner; we source all the roles for our development team from them, including developers, architects, and testers. Meanwhile, we provide the management resources. They’ve helped us completely refactor the web application we acquired, bringing it to modern standards. 

We delivered the existing documentation to The Hidden Brain. However, because the previous team wasn’t running smoothly, there was little documentation, and the app had many problems, including bad code quality. The Hidden Brain has worked to bring the product to maturity and bring the documentation to a new level. They've done front- and backend development work.

The product is a PHP web application that handles every step in the fiberglass rollout workflow, from collecting data, taking pictures, testing the fiber, and handing the data to the network provider. Contractors can arrange meetings with house owners who want fiberglass installed, and the customers can get a confirmation for those meetings. The app also enables contractors to plan assignments for their resources based on skillset and location.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The team composition has changed with each phase. In total, we’ve worked with 20 people from The Hidden Brain, including developers, testers, and architects. Our main contact points are the project manager, a lead developer, and an architect. From a technical perspective, we also have contact with a project lead and an account manager.

Their communication and compliance with deadlines have improved over time. In the last big project we did, I was very happy with the amount of communication and forecast from the project lead and their on-time delivery. We have daily standups with our main points of contact, and they work with our product owner daily, who assigns them tasks. We use Jira for project management.

In the first year, we struggled to build this team and get it to work as we wanted. Finding stability and the right focus took time, partly because many of The Hidden Brain  team members found it difficult to work with our complicated codebase, and we had some resource replacements. However, we eventually found the right mix of people. They've made some adjustments to their onboarding process and have ensured their team has the right tools to work with. The team has finally reached stability, and they've developed a sense of ownership of the project.

Hidden Brains created native applications for Android and iOS. The app's design and development proposal was based on the market and user research they conducted through interviews at the beginning of the project. They created the app's flows, user personas, and user journeys using Figma, and built the UI/UX. 

We made the decision to proceed with them on the app's development once they finished the design stage. We collaborated with our technical team to create the Android app with Kotling and the iOS app with Swift.

Hideen Brains fulfilled my needs, and our teams collaborated flawlessly. Early on, we were able to observe what they was working on by gaining access to their GitHub repositories. Our engineering teams collaborated well and were a cohesive one.

They finished the project by the expected date and stayed on budget. They used monday.com for project management, and our team had access to it, although we didn’t use it. I could check what they were working on on monday.com, but we predominantly used Slack.

The team impressed me the most. I wanted a staff with a lot of experience working together. I've come across other contracting firms whose staff hasn't collaborated as much. The team has worked together for six years, which is evident in their work and workflow. The designer's understanding of what could and could not be developed was a crucial component of our project's success.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Hidden Brains InfoTech could have done differently?

Nothing that Hidden Brains could do better, in my opinion. Although I was concerned that we would have issues, everything worked out well and our connection was beneficial to all of us.

"The business requirement was to develop an application that would allow to create projects for customers/clients, allow reviewers to review/analyse the projects, define milestones, estimate costs, review project details etc. Customers can make milestone payments once approved and project gets started. Testers gets assigned to projects and can start testing out of the system. 

Testers log bugs in JIRA and this system fetches the bugs and show project information together with all project details like bugs, stake holders, documents etc. in the Dashboard. A seamless integration with JIRA was required together with communication system implementation for communication between customers, reviewers and testers.

HB Solution: 

Hidden Brains developed a research plan to review JIRA and SSO features in details. This research plan together with business requirement details was sent to the R&D department. A sync-up meeting was called between the R&D department and the development team in order to set expectations from the R&D team. 

R&D team went ahead and did the complete review of the JIRA APIs, Atlassian Crowd, SSO features and prepared possible options based on what was on offer by Atlassian. The main challenge for the team was the fact that SOAP API was planned to be deprecated by the Atlassian team but that was the only one offering everything required by the application being developed. Atlassian was moving to REST, however, it did not offer all methods required by this Application. 

After having Risk Analysis, complexities analysis, business impact analysis, and stake holders impact analysis it was decided to use SOAP for user and project creation & REST method for remaining items. For the Single Sign On (SSO) feature, using Atlassian’s CROWD was the best option since it is an Atlassian Product as JIRA. 

A POC was created based on this research with all possible cases identified and verified with the POC solution created by the Research team. This POC was then used by the development team in order to integrate the developed system with JIRA and CROWD and a well-integrated system was the result. "

Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.

Creating a LMS-based (LearnDash) WP website with wooCommerce integration. Delivery of the initial product was largely on time (6 months). They were and remain very responsive to troubleshooting any issues that occur (hosting, mailing, WP updates, etc), as well as updating website content in a prompt manner with no extended waiting period before implementation can start.

There is a set, assigned project manager which allows for getting to know how each other operates, which makes working together more comfortable. Communication channels are open, easy, direct and fast. Very responsive, even offering ideas on how to improve functionality. It has been 2 years after the launch of the initial project and we are very satisfied to continue working with them for the foreseeable future.
