 Communication is extremely consistent and transparent. We always know what is being worked on, what is coming next, and where decisions are needed from our side. 

They are highly responsive. Our product moves quickly and our priorities evolve constantly; their team has been able to adapt without losing structure or momentum.

Timelines have generally been well managed, but what I value most is their accountability. Software development inevitably comes with unexpected challenges. When something changes or takes longer than anticipated, they communicate it early, explain why, and focus on the solution rather than making excuses. They genuinely manage the project as if they have ownership in the outcome.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Goji’s project management has been great, but what has stood out most to me is the level of personal involvement from David, their CEO. 

It's not easy to hire a firm of this size and still have the CEO genuinely engaged in your product. David has mostly remained accessible and personally steps in when an important decision or conversation requires his attention. That involvement carries through the rest of the team. 

Communication is direct and there is a real sense of accountability.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Goji Labs could have done differently?

If I had to identify one area for improvement, it would simply be speed in resolving issues when they arise. That said, I think this feedback needs context. I am extremely invested in this product and quite sure I'm more intense and demanding than the average client. 

When I see an issue, my instinct is to want it resolved immediately, and I recognize that my expectations around speed may not be realistic for every client. I move fast, I care deeply about the details, and I expect a lot because of how important this product is to what we are building. 

So while I will always push Goji to move faster, I’m also very conscious that what I personally want from a development partner may be well beyond what most clients need. 

If anything, the fact that I continue to push them this hard is a reflection of how much I trust them with the product.

We needed to redesign our app to delight current listeners and attract new audiences. Additionally, we needed a way for people to become Kcrw members directly through the app.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Goji Labs has conducted a strategy sprint to understand our core listeners and ideate a new offering for new audiences. Additionally, they’ve designed a member flow that acquires and engages paid members (donors). The team has also created a launch roadmap and rolled out new features. Moreover, Goji Labs has ensured our app data is integrated with our tech stack, including our payment system (to collect donations) and CRM database (Salesforce) to properly identify KCRW members so they can receive an enhanced experience. The team has developed and deployed the new app and rolled out new features periodically while fixing bugs along the way.

Regarding features, Goji Labs has redesigned the entire app, including the onboarding account and membership flow, the live stream, and the on-demand player. The team has also created new features, including the Explore LA interactive map, ticket giveaways, and member benefits tabs.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Goji Labs’ work has increased user stickiness, member acquisition, and revenue. For instance, we’ve seen a 7% conversion to membership from entirely new users (meaning we didn’t have their info before in our system). Moreover, the average monthly user uses the app six days a month. Regarding revenue, we’re heading in the right direction. Our previous app didn’t collect memberships directly in the app, but now it does.

How did Goji Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

We’ve had to adjust timelines, but it’s usually due to competing priorities or needing to pivot because of an unforeseeable issue that takes more time to address. Regarding communication, we use virtual meetings, emails, and messaging apps.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I like that Goji Labs’ decision-making is rooted in strategy, not just in what looks cool. I also like that they won’t just do what we ask at face value; they pressure test ideas first.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We could have stayed closer to communicating the budget and ensuring we understood the costs of going down certain feature rabbit holes before committing design time.

Goji Labs was engaged to design, build, test, and launch the Sound Sleep/Dreamwell mobile application and supporting platform. The engagement covered the full product lifecycle, from defining user flows and visual direction through technical architecture, software development, QA, production deployment, and app-store submission.

The scope also allowed Dreamwell to define and approve the detailed work and estimates on an ongoing basis.

1. A public MVP was successfully launched.

Dreamwell progressed from concept and design through development, QA, production deployment, and market launch. 

2. A cross-platform product ecosystem was established.

The delivered platform included:

• An iOS and Android mobile app
• An internal admin panel
• A live production environment
• Separate staging and testing environments for release validation

3. Core technical infrastructure became operational.

The project established a React Native mobile application, Ruby on Rails backend, managed PostgreSQL database, cloud-based audio storage, and automated GitHub Actions build and deployment pipelines.

4. Eight major integration areas were implemented or configured.

These covered subscription billing, authentication, push notifications, analytics, performance monitoring, crash and error tracking, cloud storage, and transactional email. Key services included RevenueCat, Firebase, Embrace, Rollbar, Cloudflare, Mailgun, Google Analytics, and Google/Apple authentication.

5. The subscription model was enabled.

The platform supported a one-week free trial and both monthly and annual subscription options, creating the technical foundation for paid conversion and recurring revenue.

6. A measurable engagement framework was defined.

Goji established a core engagement event with our internal team (listening for at least 15 uninterrupted minutes) and identified ongoing KPIs including: 

• Daily active users

7. A structured QA and release process was completed.

The application underwent logic and UI testing, severity-based bug prioritization, and coordinated launch preparation. Detailed issue reporting helped the teams understand, prioritize, and address launch-critical defects.

What impressed me most was Goji’s combination of strong communication and a genuinely collaborative approach. Their strategy sprint helped align our team early, and throughout the project they were responsive, transparent, and willing to address issues directly and fairly. Even under launch pressure, they remained engaged and focused on moving the product forward.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Goji Labs could have done differently?

The main area for improvement would be stronger upfront alignment on feature requirements, QA needs, and release criteria. Clarifying these earlier would have reduced rework and made timelines more predictable, although Goji was responsive and worked collaboratively with us when issues arose.

Goji Labs successfully delivered a launch-ready custom platform that moved Pitcheroo from concept to functioning product. The project resulted in a professionally designed, fully operational web application with user onboarding, producer profiles, pitch submission flows, payment functionality, and administrative tools. The platform gave us the infrastructure needed to begin onboarding producers, accepting writer submissions, and presenting Pitcheroo publicly as a credible industry-facing product. Goji Labs also helped us clarify the user experience, streamline the pitch process, and create a scalable foundation for future growth.

The only area for improvement would be budget forecasting. While the initial estimates were generally within range, the final costs ended up somewhat higher than expected as the platform requirements evolved.
