Giant Propeller has helped us design and develop our website from scratch. In addition, they’ve assisted us in creating some teaser materials, video content, and pitch decks. 

We’ve had three video projects, and they’ve produced a mix of live-action and animated videos. We’ve given them general parameters, but they are self-starters — they’ve come up with better ideas than we initially have.

I’ve worked with Michael (Hiring Manager) and 6–7 other resources, including an animator, a visual effects artist, and some web experts.

We’ve been working since June 2016, and our collaboration is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

One of our clients has been extremely pleased with the reach and engagement of the video. As a result, they’ve ordered two additional campaigns. Another client said the video has helped them attract high-profile partners. I’m 100% satisfied with Giant Propeller’s work, and they’ve exceeded my expectations.

How did Giant Propeller perform from a project management standpoint?

Giant Propeller’s project management is excellent — they’ve never faltered. We communicate through phone calls, emails, Slack, and text messages.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Giant Propeller overachieves and over-delivers. I like them so much that I consider them friends. I’m blown away and impressed by their work.

I’m the director of one of the programs of a venture philanthropy nonprofit. Our organization focuses on pulmonary fibrosis, a rare lung disease.

What challenge were you trying to address with Giant Propeller?

The goal of our program is to improve the diagnosis time for pulmonary fibrosis. We hired Giant Propeller to build the brand of this program and design a website for it.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our goal was to be able to bring direct-to-consumer marketing to healthcare, even though it’s not the standard approach for disease awareness. Giant Propeller developed our brand, strategy, and web design from scratch. They also led two major marketing and awareness campaigns.

What is the team composition?

Over the course of two years, we worked with 8–10 people from Giant Propeller. Our main contacts are Mike (Co-Founder & CEO) and Josh (Head of Operations & Executive Producer). 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them towards the end of 2019. We decided to pause the engagement last December 2021 in order to further develop our digital platform internally.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The marketing was heavily effective. Giant Propeller’s awareness campaign resulted in a 576% increase in Google search results for pulmonary fibrosis 

How did Giant Propeller perform from a project management standpoint?

They performed excellently. We had biweekly meetings, and we used Teamwork as a project management tool.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Giant Propeller's attention to detail really set them apart. They were able to immerse themselves in our world — which is probably not common to their line of work — and understand the rare disease that we’re focused on. They then brought in a level of creativity that we don’t typically see in this space. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I can’t think of anything off the top of my head. It was a pretty successful engagement, and they were very easy to work with.

Work with them to define the problem and let the creative people on their team come up with branding and marketing solutions.

I’m the head of marketing at Doctor2me. We provide health call doctors for patients all over Southern California and for Florida.

What challenge were you trying to address with Giant Propeller?

As a startup, we needed help in developing our brand as a whole, creating our website, handling all of our social media advertising, and producing creative assets such as marketing videos.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We hired Giant Propeller to develop our website and brand identity, handle our social media marketing efforts, and produce marketing videos. We did the technical implementation and gave them some high-level copy, but they were in charge of all the design and brand imagery work.

As for the video production part of the project, they laid out the creative vision and the visual look and feel, handled the storyboarding, wrote the script, recruited the voice talent, and handled all post-production work. They have an in-house animator who created the animation for the video. 

So far, they’ve produced a 60-second video as well as 7-8 different sizes of videos for us to use at different touchpoints, such as the 10-second video shorts that we use for Facebook and Instagram advertisements.

We met Giant Propeller through a referral. I chose them for this project because they provide high-quality, agency-level kind of work, but at a startup-level budget. Since we're a startup, they were just the right fit in terms of quality and budget.

We’ve spent somewhere around $35,000.

We started working together in August 2020, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The 10-second video shorts that Giant Propeller created for us ended up getting double the click-through rate compared to our static ads.

Giant Propeller has performed very well in terms of project management. They always have a clear timeline and all key deliverables have been delivered on time.

I’m the senior VP of marketing for a nutraceutical company. We manufacture and sell health products, supplements, and more.

What challenge were you trying to address with Giant Propeller?

We had outgrown the marketing company that we were using locally, so we brought Giant Propeller on as a full-service provider to take our digital marketing efforts to the next level with their expertise. This full service was focused on e-commerce, including email campaigns, video ads, and other direct-to-consumer (D2C) marketing strategies.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Giant Propeller’s first task was to build out some affiliate programs. However, they then wanted to pivot into more direct social media campaigns, so they put together some creatives and social media ads for D2C marketing.

They spent the first month working on the planning stage, but they missed the mark, so we had to circle back and redo a lot of the work. Then, they spent the second month creating some social media campaigns, but they didn’t deliver anything we talked about to me.

As the campaigns weren’t performing well, we did a hard pivot and brought in an influencer, which was our original idea. Slowly, we created some content and email follow-up campaigns.

Finally, we got the influencer campaign up and running and got the creatives we wanted. Giant Propeller wanted to post those influencer videos on Facebook, so they ran some ads, but none of them performed well. In the end, we had to bring a new marketing company to overlap what they had done.

What is the team composition?

We worked directly with an account manager, who communicated and coordinated with the rest of the team. Four people worked on the planning, two people on the email creatives, and 2–3 people on the website. Additionally, 3–4 people from Giant Propeller’s leadership team were directly involved in the project.

How did you come to work with Giant Propeller?

Originally, Giant Propeller reached out to us. At the time, we were on a transition period, and we were looking for a marketing company. Somehow, during that search, our email got on their list.

We started getting in talks with Jordan (Co-Founder & Co-CEO) and found that they had a lot of experience with e-commerce. They also presented some case studies of people that they had worked with in the past. They seemed like a good fit for us, so we took it from there.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $75,000, not including any ad spend.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in May 2021 and finished our partnership in October 2021. We knew that Giant Propeller wasn’t the right fit for us by August 2021, but they stretched out their involvement and spent the last two months finishing work that we had already paid for.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

How did your relationship with the vendor evolve?

We should have noticed the red flags during the first month of our engagement. We came in with a very specific budget, but it took Giant Propeller a whole month to put together a proposal, and what they wanted to do was four times over budget. Just there, we spent $15,000 for nothing.

We then went into the second month with nothing to show for. Giant Propeller readjusted and began executing the plan, and we noticed that the ads they started running didn’t perform — we were wasting marketing dollars and got no results.

After that, we gave them another chance and returned to what I originally wanted, the influencer affiliate program. Even doing that, we found out that Giant Propeller’s efforts wouldn’t work out for us, so we stopped working together.

How did Giant Propeller address the issues that arose?

When I noticed that Giant Propeller wasn’t working well, I emailed Jordan and told him that we needed to talk. Unfortunately, he never got on the phone with me. One of the managers did get on the phone with me, apologized for some leadership changes, and credited us a week’s worth of work, which was about 30 hours, to make up for the mistakes they had made.

Although they tried to overcome the issue and make up for it, our engagement didn’t go well, and they always had a lot of excuses.

Describe the impact this engagement has had on your business. 

Before working with Giant Propeller, we were on an upward trajectory, and we were seeing 20%–30% increases in our metrics. However, we started seeing 10%–15% declines since we started working with them, and we never saw online sales coming from their efforts.

Additionally, Giant Propeller never delivered the affiliate programs we talked about, and the social media campaigns they created did absolutely nothing; they were terrible. Our new marketing company told us that their campaigns were very badly targeted, which was why they didn’t get results.

Giant Propeller was very expensive for our business, and we had high hopes for them. Although they had a very good creative team, they offered very poor leadership. Overall, it was a miserable experience that cost us a lot of money.

How did Giant Propeller perform from a project management standpoint?

The execution and planning of the project were miserable; Giant Propeller missed deadlines and was delayed for no reason. Maybe, they grew too fast and weren’t able to sustain any level of customer support.

Working directly with the account manager was frustrating because we first had to go to him, and he had to go to the rest of the team. He was a good person and a good communicator, but the team behind him didn’t perform well. He was also very empathetic, and at some point, he knew that we were leaving.

Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?

The design work for the landing pages and the creatives that Giant Propeller came up with looked really good. They had a really good design team.

I would advise you to look somewhere else and try to find a different company.
