Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

They delivered their items on time but they responded poorly to our needs. We hired Giant Propeller for our marketing needs with high hopes, but unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with their performance, and especially, their response to our dissatisfaction.

Giant Propeller did not provide the value we expected, and we learned they are not a good fit for startups like us, who cannot afford to invest a large amount of money on testing ad campaigns with no detailed reasoning behind the hours they planned to charge. Our main concern for future startups was Giant Propeller did not deliver the expected results, and when we brought up our dissatisfaction with them, they didn’t show the sympathy we were expecting.

Additionally, after multiple meetings with their team, they did not provide us with a detailed action plan or strategy to improve our marketing efforts, just the hours they planned to bill per skilled staff member Furthermore, their contract seemed tricky, as we had to pay $16,000 upfront for their audit, and if we decided not to move forward based on their poor work performance, we would lose all the money without any refund. We raised these concerns to one of the founders, and for the preceding two months, we were met with radio silence, which added to our frustration.

After following up with both founders and asking for a solution or refund, they only responded with a canned reply, showing they were not interested in addressing our concerns or providing any solutions, which we were open to anything but being pushed to the side. In addition to the issues mentioned above, we were deeply disappointed with Giant Propeller's lack of empathy and poor company culture.

It was clear to us, they were ok with making a profit from a small and dissatisfied customer. They didn't even offer a partial refund where they would cover their costs without profit. We found this behavior highly unprofessional and unethical. Would you be happy outsourcing your company's image to a company with such values?

In conclusion, we would not recommend Giant Propeller to anyone as they did not deliver the expected result, and they were unable to address our needs as their client. We strongly suggest finding a professional fractional CMO that is better suited to your needs and values your business as much as you do.

Once we began our work together, we expressed how our budget was conservative and where we were as a company. The market shifted, unfortunately, and when we said post-audit it would be difficult to commit to our original budget, we said we needed ACTIONABLE ITEMS we can take from the audit to improve our brand and sales. They turned around a slide with 3 bullet points that were far from actionable and not worth $16,000. We expressed this two different times before finally cutting ties with GP.

At the beginning of the project, Giant Propeller did an excellent job briefing the team about our company and ensuring they were up to speed on our brand. We enjoy working with them; they’re well-informed and committed to helping us achieve our goals. 

We’re very pleased with their work from a design and quality standpoint. In terms of engagement, we’re starting to see the fruits of our labor in the form of increased followers, likes, and engagement. Users are responding positively to the changes, and we’re performing significantly better than we were beforehand.

I’m pleased with how Giant Propeller is handling the project. Our project manager doles out expectations to other team members and ensures tasks get completed smoothly. The team is very easy to get in touch with; we’re in constant communication via Slack, email, and text. They’re very responsive and available, and they handle requests immediately.

As we had prior won a prestigious Epic Games MegaGrant, we had some financing to hire a company to help our company fine tune a marketing strategy and help us create a deck that would appeal to investors across different industries.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

The initial recommendation came from an industry associate who highly recommended Giant Propeller. We did interview other candidates but after meeting with Giant Propeller - felt they were the strongest candidate. We especially liked how they had a team of talent from different backgrounds to work on our project. And an asset that most of the staff was young - and very in touch with the current trends in the industry.

The first steps were to introduce GP (Giant Propeller) to our project and team members through a series of zoom chats over a few weeks. We shared our goals and concept of the project. We met their team and they each described their area of expertise and shared their initial concepts on the project. Our goal was to create an effective deck that would best showcase our property and attract potential investors.

Our character Jayden was to be a virtual teenage pop star - who was a positive role model - and who could appear in TV, music and social media - interacting in real time with live audiences. We outlined the creative and design challenges for the deck and established the financial, schedule and deliverables. We shared a deck that we designed ourselves - and GP gave us an honest assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of our design. They then provided several iterations of creative and design ideas including logos, color schemes, fonts and graphic design ideas.

Right from the outset, they showed a firm understanding of our concept - and immediately enhanced our presentation. The graphic design was contemporary, simple, fresh looking - and effectively communicated our project. They helped with clarifying and organizing the branding strategy, and communicating that strategy through both visuals and text. We were pleased right from the start.

One big challenge was that there were two phases of this project. The first phase was to design the deck - but leave placeholders for video content we were to shoot several months after the initial start date. The second phase was to incorporate these videos, redesigning where necessary - and add the final polish. After the 2 month break, they picked up with the same vigor and enthusiasm - and finished the job on budget and schedule.

Even more impressive, after the job was complete we held a post-mortem where GP graciously shared their ideas and recommendations on how they thought we should proceed - which was very helpful. Once we get our next round of financing - we certainly intend to work with GP on the next chapters of developing and producing Jayden.

GP has a great team - that is balanced between their account side and creative staff - with fluid communication between the two. We initially met with their CEO's - Jordan and Mike. Who introduced us to their account managers - Steven and Valerie. And then we worked with Audri as creative director and her team of designers. So we worked with a minimum of 5-7 people on the team.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

They delivered a polished final deck that everyone is enthused with. This month we have begun pitching for our next round of financing using the GP deck as our main marketing tool - and it's been met with only positive feedback. We are absolutely delighted with the final product.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

That's their 'secret sauce'. They were incredibly easy to communicate with. Most importantly, they listened to our opinions and incorporated them. And where appropriate, they'll offer alternative solutions that are most helpful. Wonderful work flow - between emails and zoom calls. And met all delivery deadlines.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

It was definitely the combination between creative input, technical skills in executing our vision, flexibility in looking at a problem from different angles and offering solutions. And most important - their professionalism - i.e. communicating well, delivering on time and on budget.

Nothing - top notch firm, well fun from top down, who deserves their success. Best endorsement is we hope to work with them soon.

We had developed a website on our own through an app, but it wasn’t servicing us the way we needed. Therefore, we wanted to hire somebody to look at what we do and build a creative website to help users get the right information. 

Since we didn’t have the most objective look at what we put on the first website, we wanted to lean on an outside provider to determine how to approach our language so that anyone could understand what we do. Our goal with the site was to make it easy for potential customers to find us and for current customers to find in-depth information about our services. We hired Giant Propeller to design our look and logo and create a website with a nice flow for our needs.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Giant Propeller designed our brand's new look and logo. They helped us write our brand guidelines, implement them, and optimize them for a new website. Our previous website served as the brief. We worked with the Giant Propeller team to build our goals and the process to get there. Together, we identified the gaps on the previous website that they needed to review, polish, and develop on the new site. 

We leaned on their knowledge to customize development and evaluated the creative assets they put forward. Then, we worked together to refine them. The team did a complete redesign, and we used the information on our previous website to develop the new copy. Giant Propeller's writers drafted the copy, and we bounced it back and forth to hone each section. This process was also how we educated them on our unique services. The team also worked on SEO, including keyword research. 

On the website, users can find sections on the main page or through a tab. The site includes information about who we are, what we do, and our contact information. Giant Propeller focused on keeping the site simple and easy to navigate. Since our services aren't one-size-fits-all, we wanted users to see only necessary information and contact us if they wanted to engage us so we could boil down their specific needs.

We worked with 4–5 teammates from Giant Propeller, including copywriters, web designers, graphic designers, and developers. 

How did you come to work with Giant Propeller?

We found them through a colleague. While doing our work, we bumped into a friend whose former business partner started Giant Propeller. I looked at their website and gave them a call. When looking for a partner, we wanted to work with people who shared our vision, efficiency, and ethics, and Giant Propeller fit that description. Moreover, we didn't want to get bogged down by the project, and they were comfortable with us being as involved or uninvolved as we wanted. 

I didn't want to search for web designers I knew nothing about or read reviews from clients I had no personal contact with, so we chose Giant Propeller due to the word-of-mouth recommendation. When someone I know fairly well makes a recommendation, they're also staking their reputation on it, so after we got the referral to Giant Propeller, we didn't look very far. Besides, we like to make decisions fast and know when things feel right; if we hadn't felt right with them, we would have moved on.

We worked together from January–April 2021. Currently, we call them if we want a change we can't make on our own.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The site Giant Propeller designed for us has been an excellent tool for potential clients to find us and as a reference for what we do for new and existing clients. We work with big brands, where employees move through departments quickly. Therefore, new employees are constantly coming into marketing departments that need onboarding on how to interface with us. 

Using our website, we pull pages to build a deck that hones in on specific aspects of our work to educate the people we work with. This way, we don't have to spend three hours explaining how we work to new teammates. The site can brief our clients' teammates ahead of meetings, so they can make a more specific list of questions and meet their employer's expectations. 

How did Giant Propeller perform from a project management standpoint?

They delivered right on time and stayed within the budget. Although some items took us a bit over budget, these weren't due to Giant Propeller's work; we added things and asked them to do additional tasks outside the scope.

The team billed their scopes of work and broke them down into the hours spent on each thing they did. As a result, we could create an a la carte menu for our particular scope. They were great at keeping us updated about the hours spent on each area and how that affected the entire project. This approach allowed us to stay within our budget and add things when needed, knowing it would increase the budget. 

We communicated via Zoom calls, where we would go through the site's pages. They showed us a non-published version of the site so that we could see how it worked on mobile and view, adjust, and critique it in real time. Then, they applied our feedback, refining the site and developing other content areas we discussed. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

We appreciated that, as a boutique agency, Giant Propeller worked very closely with us. We didn't get lost in a bigger organization, and they were accessible to connect with us whenever needed. Sometimes, companies are so big that they get lost in their own layers to the point where it can be difficult to manage a workstream. 

Meanwhile, there weren't many layers with Giant Propeller, so it was easy to work back and forth with them. We would talk about our action plan, and they would act on it almost in real time instead of having days, weeks, or months without accomplishing anything. Overall, their workflow was very fluid and timely. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don't have any constructive feedback; their work met our expectations and needs. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

When working with Giant Propeller, you should understand your budget and goals and then collaborate with them to create a roadmap to achieve those goals. With web design, you may know what you need and have a working knowledge of what it takes to get there. However, you may not know the time required for each element on the technical side. 

Therefore, you should also understand your timing; if you need a website within a month, it could cost more than a three-month project. A month's timeline would be considered a rush job and require weekend work and a larger team, whereas three months allows for fewer people and extra hours. Work with Giant Propeller on these details because they'll be able to customize your creative ask to your timeline and budget.

We appreciate having a whole team who are very polished in what they present. Giant Propeller does everything we ask for and is very easy to work with.

Their communication is prompt through email, Google Meet, and phone calls. Their response time is great, and they're very punctual; they always email us back when we reach out. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Since we've only been working with Giant Propeller for three months, their most impressive attributes are to be determined; we'd like more time with them. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could provide up-to-date reports on the usage of the hours spent. We've purchased a certain number of hours from them, and I've never known how many they use for each task. Even though work happens, they don't report the hours to us.

I'd advise being upfront with what you need going into the engagement. Giant Propeller has a process they'll default to unless you share your plan with them. Although they have a great method to their madness, they're open to adapting, so they'll listen if you tell them what you need to happen.

Nonetheless Giant Propeller quickly developed an understanding of our products and - just as important - our mission. Giant Propellor worked closely with two creative teams, our GCD and ECD to realize the creative, solve the design problems, and ultimately produce animation, motion graphics and static deliverables -- all on a compact production timeline. We developed a plan to roll out the creative -- which the client changed on us several times a week. Giant Propellor kept up with it all, even with the client wrenches being thrown. We delivered on time, on budget.

We finished with high marks from a demanding client -- and I introduced Giant Propellor to a new-york based advertising agency that was impressed with the collaboration and output. It created a relationship that will continue to exist independent of me.

Their balance of great creativity and strong production was impressive. I find most companies excel at one or the other -- Giant Propellor can do both, at a high level, consistently.

I honestly could not name a fault. From the bidding process to the briefing to the development to the output. All worked easily and efficiently.

I’m the founder and CEO of Elton Pepple. We’re a timepiece company based in Chicago.

What challenge were you trying to address with Giant Propeller?

We needed a marketing company that could create a plan for us to go from zero to $10 million in 12 months.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Giant Propeller put together a marketing plan for us. Initially, we discussed what we wanted to accomplish and our goals. Also, we provided brand documentation, which gave them an insight into our company and what we wanted to achieve in the marketplace. They came up with the strategy and created the marketing plan based on everything they received.

We’re currently doing some internal work before we decide to move on with them. Afterward, they’ll be completely in charge of creating the marketing assets.

What is the team composition?

We had six people assigned to the project, including a CMO, a chief creative officer, an ad campaign manager, and Jordan (Co-Founder & Chief Growth Officer). We were in contact with all of them.

They found us.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $12,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from January–March 2020. We hope to resume our partnership with them once we finish our internal restructuring.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

In the long run, we hope to execute the plan they’ve put together. However, the strategy gave us clarity and a roadmap for going from zero to $10 million in 12 months. Also, the plan has helped us talk to investors and people that want to join the team, so it has been instrumental.

How did Giant Propeller perform from a project management standpoint?

Everything was delivered on time and within budget. They were very patient, friendly, and direct. We could easily reach out to them, and they always got back to us promptly. Overall, they were instrumental in our work.

We used Zoom and Google Meet for communication. Also, we could email them and get a response within a day or less.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Accessibility was key. They were direct and friendly, and their communication was very relationship-based. Overall, they were one of the best marketing companies we’ve worked with in terms of strategy, planning, and optimization.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I currently don’t have any input on how they can improve because we haven’t kicked off our partnership yet.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Go for it; you’ll be genuinely impressed by their work and accessibility. They listen to you and try to understand your business before working and executing a plan.
