We had developed our platform in 2018 and it needed a major facelift. As a result, we needed to ensure we had enough resources internally and externally to give our platform the update it needed in the required time.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Experion Technologies provides outsourced specialized technical engineers, including QA specialists, data analysts, and tech engineers. Each resource plays a particular role in updating our system. We've had a discovery and various development phases, each with sprints. We've been working together for two years. 

We initially provided Experion Technologies with a lot of documentation and came very equipped with our requirements. We had high expectations for the team's delivery and the quality of engineering skills we needed.

We work with 6–10 core leaders in different areas, including QA, business intelligence, data, and UI and frontend design. Each area has 2–3 specialists supporting them.

A former teammate had previously worked with Experion Technologies and made the connection. I met with a sales executive and told him about our needs. We started with a small project and grew from there.

We've spent around $1 million per year on this project.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We've grown into very structured governance thanks to Experion Technologies' work. Initially, we had KPIs around QA, usability, and testing. We also have governance that lets us know where our risks and wins are. The team has learned a lot about our platform and has done a lot to manage the project's scope. 

Experion Technologies is meeting my high expectations of planning work 30–90 days ahead. The team keeps our platform live, and that part of our government structure is another way to measure our progress.

How did Experion Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

In the beginning, it was rough. Any relationship is rough for the first 3–6 months because we're trying to learn about each other's expectations. Sometimes, Experion Technologies has missed deadlines because of our requirements, but that is how the cookie crumbles. We don't follow timelines since we measure their progress by scope. We work really hard together to ensure every sprint is scoped and expectations are realistic.

Experion Technologies doesn't miss deadlines because we have realistic expectations. If they miss a deadline, we're aware of what causes it. We use Jira for project management and communicate via phone and email.
Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

I want to highlight Shameer's (Software Architect) work. He has evolved into a prized relationship and constantly demonstrates that he's mindful of our goal. He's a thoughtful architect instead of a professional who only executes.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Experion Technologies has been one of the best partners I've worked with because they understand the requirements and intention of the technology we're trying to develop. I have 25 years of development experience and have found dozens of outsourcing partners, but the best partner doesn't lose sight of the client's goal. Every time we get into a blind engineering phase, Experion Technologies goes back to our project's goals and objectives. 

Experion Technologies understands how to work with us through the stages of our business. We're a startup, and the experience has taken on as much risk as they have in their business. The team works with enterprise customers who are really well off and don't have as much risk in the relationship but need to be nurtured in a different way. Experion Technologies' ability to understand their clients' journey and what they need for their business is unique. 

The team's business isn't all about transactions. Experion Technologies understands we're in the project together and can only be successful when we challenge things that aren't logical and directly facilitate our goals. Experion Technologies is always ahead of trends and has highly specialized team members. The team's approach to doing business is what makes them unique.

Although we've had challenges throughout the project, we've set up expectations and given Experion Technologies examples of what we want, and we no longer have issues. We initially had challenges with the user journey.

Ensure you know what you want out of your relationship with Experion Technologies. Communicate your expectations clearly so the team can tell you if they can meet them. You need to know your goals, whether you want to develop something fast or of high quality. The team can flex, but the starting point will make a world of difference.

The project entailed progressing the development of a custom inventory management system from MVP stage to production stage. The product was required to operate on web and natively on Android only. Key deliverables included:

• The ability for the application to work offline and queue transactions for sync.
• The ability for an admin to create and set custom roles and permissions for users.
• SAML interface with Google for session authentication and log in.
• Intuitive interface with two language options.
• The ability to export data based on permission levels.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We now have a branded product that is in production and being used in a pilot phase with historic data migrated. The envisaged project has become a reality.

Experion are extremely professional and dedicated. Their processes and client engagement has been exemplary. I was the main point of contact from my organisation and worked with the team, communicating with them on a daily basis. They have always been supportive, efficient and diligent.

Also, they have been incredibly agile, recognising the fact that our project had a large number of unknowns from the outset and have addressed these as we have progressed through the process. I am extremely impressed with the team and what we received from them overall.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their communication, the amount of resources they were able to put onto issues, their 'can do' attitude to almost all issues which arose, their ability to call in more senior and highly experienced consultants to navigate through difficult terrain. Their client engagement was second to none - we visited them in India on site and were extremely impressed by their operation.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Experion Technologies could have done differently?

We had a couple of minor hiccups with testing and bugs, but these were resolved satisfactorily.

What challenges were you trying to address with Experion Technologies?

We had several legacy systems that were disparate and disconnected from each other, which didn’t allow us to have a defined workflow, so we needed help with software development to modernize our IT for case management.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Experion Technologies has been helping us develop a web-based application from scratch to help us manage our document systems in-house. Regarding the process, we’ve started with a discovery phase providing them with all the legacy applications and information we have for our case management system. In addition, they’ve assigned a senior project manager to us to evaluate on-site our existing workflow, including spreadsheets, database applications, and custom-written platforms.

In terms of functionalities, we’re a large work comp defense firm, so information security (InfoSec) is one of our highest priorities because we manage data for very large Fortune 100 clients. We want to ensure that we have confidentiality and data protection. Therefore, the system has modules for case management, document management, calendaring, billing, medical department handling, backend accounting, and time tracking — it gathers everything in one place to help us streamline our internal legal processes.

Regarding technologies, they’re modeling everything based on our legacy applications in terms of data organization using C# and Angular.

We’ve been working with around 35 members of Experion Technologies’ team, including a senior project manager, a senior engagement manager, business analysts, senior developers, UI/UX developers, and QA specialists.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Experion Technologies does custom software development and design for our web-based application using Java, C#, and AWS— they help us build the system, test it, and customize it based on our customer’s requirements. The product is used by insurance companies to underwrite policies, process claims, and collect payments. In addition to that, they provided business analysis. 

We gave them documentation on our product and business requirements to jumpstart the process.

Currently, they’re adding new features to the product, documenting requirements, and doing custom software development for our customers.

We’ve worked with around 40 members of their team, including developers, QA specialists, business analysts, and project managers.

How did you come to work with Experion Technologies?

One of our customers referred them to us, and we chose them for this project based on a pilot task we gave them — Experion Technologies executed it on time and with high quality. In addition, their team was easy to work with and knowledgeable about the software we were trying to build.

So far, we’ve spent $3 million–$5 million with them.

We’re delighted with their work so far; the quality of their software development is great, and they deliver within timelines. Moreover, the software users have reported minimal improvement areas in the platform.

How did Experion Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

They keep updated on the progress and address any issues that arise. Regarding tools, we use Microsoft Teams.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re easy to work with, communicate well, and are flexible with our timing — all these attributes are key when working with an offshore team.

I’m satisfied with their services, so I don’t think there’s anything they can improve on.

Constant communication and proper documentation for setting expectations are the most important things when working with offshore companies because of the time zone difference.

I’m the CPO of MARS Global Solutions, a company in the maritime transportation industry.

What challenge were you trying to address with Experion Technologies?

We were developing a risk management product for vessels. This software product will be unique in this industry and helpful for banks, charters, insurance companies, and other parties involved. We hired Experion Technologies to help us create it.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Experion Technologies is our development partner, and they're building our web-based product. We've given them guidance about what to develop and how; we shared a lot of knowledge with them to explain our wants and needs. I created some of the wireframes, and we gave the team some documentation. From there, we had a requirement-gathering phase. Experion Technologies is developing the UI and the back- and frontend of the tool using Microsoft Azure. 

The product Experion Technologies is building is an assessment tool for the vessels. For example, if we take a 400,000—500,000 ton vessel and want to move cargo from A to B and C to D, we need to assess whether the vessel is suitable and ensure that the cargo will reach its destination. This software will do risk and quality assessments and provide recommendations.

The software tool will examine the vessel's history and analyze technical aspects, when and where it was built, the controls, and past inspections. Experion Technologies is making more than 200 checkpoints, and we also have vetting criteria and our own risk assessment tools. Following those checkpoints, we'll be able to determine whether a vessel is suitable for that charter.

We started working with them in January 2022, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The quality of Experion Technologies' work is good. In testing, we've found hardly any bugs, which is good. The only bugs we've seen have been minor, and we haven't had anything like a system crash, which is common in software development. Moreover, the team has developed the product as per our requirements. 

How did Experion Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

Experion Technologies meets the deadlines. We have daily calls with them and communicate through a WhatApp group and email. During the requirement-gathering phase and throughout the project, we've had additional calls twice a week.

Since some of the team lives in Houston, Texas, and I'm in Melbourne, Australia, communication can be a little challenging because of the time zone difference. However, it has worked out for us with the tools we use. Since we work with the Agile methodology, we can see what they're developing and provide continuous feedback, and we haven't faced any problems. We use Jira and Confluence for project management.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I've been most impressed that, during the requirement-gathering phase, Experion Technologies' senior management also got involved in our meetings; they listened to us and identified our pain points. The team is wonderful, knowledgeable, and overall very personable. They make sure they're doing the right thing for their customers.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They don't need to change anything.

My advice is to be open with Experion Technologies; share your knowledge so they can develop things correctly for you.

I’m the owner of ScrubPlan LLC, a cloud-based web app used to identify the scope of work for construction projects. Our system analyzes a set of construction documents and extracts all of the data relevant to a certain trade. The analysis is then used by construction firms during project estimations and outlining the scope of work for each trade.

What challenge were you trying to address with Experion Technologies?

I needed help with UI design and development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I was in charge of writing the app’s logic and Experion Technologies created the app’s UI. The team was also in charge of enabling users to upload and scan drawings on the app. They now continue to maintain our app.

What is the team composition?

We started working with 7–8 people and that’s tapered down to 1–2 people as we’re just working through bugs at this point.

How did you come to work with Experion Technologies?

I might have found them through Clutch. I went through the process of interviewing potential companies to work with. During the interview process, Experion Technologies showed me a proof of concept (POC) and showed they had a good grasp of the idea that I was trying to put forward, which was the reason why we went with them.

We started working together in March 2020, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I started this project even though I wasn’t sure that the app was feasible, but Experion Technologies did a great job putting together what I was looking for in the app and executing the plan to create it. There were a lot of curveballs along the way, and they did a great job adjusting to those changes.

We haven’t released the app to many people, so I don’t have any feedback other than coming from myself. In relation to that, I appreciate their diligence in resolving the bugs we identify and making sure everything is running properly. 

How did Experion Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

We have weekly calls for 30–60 minutes to touch base and prioritize tasks.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Our app currently doesn’t exist and is completely new to the market, so we’re impressed that they decided to work with us. They’re also flexible and have been willing to take our vision and execute it.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they’re already doing a great job and they don’t have a lot of areas to improve.

Make sure you have a clear picture of what you’re envisioning because they have to incorporate a lot of details into the app. Overall, they need a clear drawing board to execute your vision properly.

I’m the IT manager of a skincare company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Experion Technologies?

About 10 years ago, we started to track our product and had a custom barcode system that only worked on Windows CE devices. We realized it was now time to move to a more modern platform. We needed help in software development. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Experiod developed our custom system. We had 5–6 sprints and a two-week-long development period from August to December. During the first week, they worked almost 24/7 as they really wanted to understand our product’s functionalities and what they needed to do with it. 

We collaborated through Microsoft Teams, and we showed them through screen sharing how our software worked. We broke down the steps that we were using, and we detailed how we expect the tool to run.

We provided them with a test and a live environment every two weeks. They rolled out their changes there, and we tested their work. Once we agreed on details, they put their improvements into the production environment. 

We would then get feedback from our users and pass that to Experion. They would implement changes if needed. 

What is the team composition?

I worked with 7–8 teammates, including the owner, a web developer, a project manager, a quality tester, and an SQL server engineer. 

How did you come to work with Experion Technologies?

We reached out to about 10 companies, and 6–7 of them were on Clutch actually. Experion had the best proposal, which was 30 pages in length. Their plan was very detailed while other companies just sent a two-line email with the cost.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from August–November 2021.

Their product successfully replaced the previous product we had. It functioned as intended, and we were happy with their work. We plan to work with them again to fine-tune the software in about six months, once we have more experience with the tool. 

How did Experion Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

We used Basecamp and Microsoft Teams to communicate, share tasks, and send screenshots. If there were any problems, I could send them an email. I never needed to send them an email, but I assume that if I do, they will answer. 

Additionally, all the people that worked on the project had their own area of expertise. If we didn’t like what they presented, they were very accommodating.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Experion’s work was on time and within budget — they delivered what they promised. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We had difficulties communicating. Since English was both our second language, when we spoke to each other, things would get lost in translation. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be clear with your specifications and explain what you want to do. We had to go back and forth a few times, but that’s normal.

I’m the founder and CEO of a startup organization based in the Boston, Massachusetts area.

What challenge were you trying to address with Experion Technologies?

I was looking for a partner to develop my custom software.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Experion built the technology for my business from scratch. I Initially provided them a basic statement of work, and I worked closely with them to flesh it out and determine how their scope of work would look like.

Our system is currently in its 1.0 version, so it is not very complex yet. However, it includes a very interactive website and a very interactive employee app to be released for iOS in the next two weeks.

Experion integrated various useful functionalities and a payment processing system to facilitate our transactions. They also were in charge of the design work, especially around UI/UX, focusing on the customer journey. For this, I only shared my goal and vision with them, and they helped me define my system’s look and feel.

What is the team composition?

I worked directly with Manoj (VP) and around 15 members from Experion’s team, who were primarily based in Kochi, India. Manoj was more on the business development side, so after we signed an agreement, he connected me with the chief UI designer. From there, I worked with the rest of the team as needed, which included a project manager, team leaders, and business analysts.

How did you come to work with Experion Technologies?

I was indecisive about either hiring a developer as part of our staff to develop our technology or outsourcing the project to a third party. From going through every startup’s stages, I found out that outsourcing would be the best option.

I started looking through Clutch for different options and found a total of 14 companies, including Experion. I interviewed all of them, but Experion was the best option among them all.

What is the status of this engagement?

My initial contact with Experion was in July 2020, but we started working together until September 2020. The bulk of their work was finished around January 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

As we’re only a startup, we don’t have any hard metrics to share yet. However, I can say that it was a very seamless experience.

How did Experion Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

Experion performed really well. If I had to rate them, I would give them 9/10 on communication and scheduling just because there’s always room for improvement.

The constant communication, both from their leadership and project managers, was great. They also had great time management skills; they were on schedule throughout the whole project.

We communicated through various channels. Most of the time, we got on a virtual meeting over Microsoft Teams or another similar platform, but email was our second most-used communication medium.

If I needed to talk to Manoj, I simply contacted him over the phone because he’s based in Texas. If it wasn’t for the COVID-19 situation, I would have met in person with him, and I would probably have traveled to India to meet with the rest of the team. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I hadn’t worked with another development company to this degree, so I don’t have a good benchmark to compare Experion’s services. However, I picked them among their competitors by noticing what happened during the initial 14 interviews.

Weeding out some of those companies was easy; they couldn’t schedule a meeting, didn’t show up on time, or had technology issues like interruptions during the meeting.

By the end, selecting them became a little more difficult, and it came down to the little, intangible things that they did better than the others. For example, I noticed that Manoj picked up the phone and called me directly, whereas I only spoke with the other companies’ middle managers the whole time.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Sure, there’s always room for improvement. Experion is a large firm, and sometimes, I was working with a team leader who would get pulled off and into another project, so I then had to work with a new person.

However, because I started working with Manoj and the chief UI designer, they helped me communicate my vision to the other team members as they joined the project. If I had been in contact with a middle person, I would probably have struggled to communicate my vision.

We also had a couple of misunderstandings about the statement of work, defining what this first version included. Nevertheless, Experion was willing to make the adjustments necessary, taking it as an opportunity to improve their communication. Other than that, I don’t have more constructive feedback — everything worked out well.

I can only advise people to work with them. I’ve already referred them to three of my friends.

I am the Director of Technology representing the business side of Limbach Company.

For what projects/services did your company hire Experion Technologies, and what were your goals?

We had an outdated way utilizing excel and acess to report data from our VDC, Engineering and Estimating database. The available industry solutions did not meet the specif needs that we had. Our goal was to develop a cloud based application to meet this need, one that was based on our custom program criteria and core process.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We found Experion through Clutch review via a google search. The main reason we decided to select this vendor was because they took the time early on to understand our issue, and what we were trying to achieve. Experion give us a high level of confidence that they would be able to help us accomplish our goals. They were able to showcase their capabilities, and attention to detail before we signed on with them.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

Experion helped us develop a cloud based estimating and parametrics application using technologies such as Angular, Microsoft power BI, Spread JS, etc.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

There were around 26 people working on this project. These were their positions: API Developer, Angular Developer, Business Analyst, Data Engineer, Project Manager, QA/Tester, Technical Architect, UI HTML Developer, UI/UX Designer.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We are in the process of implementing the solution, and are constantly making minor changes based on user feedback.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

Most of the communication was done using Zoom for video conferencing, and Confluence to track correspondence. The project had to be pushed back a couple months as the development went on.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their attention to detail is very good. They were able to research and come up with solutions that in some cases exceeded our original requirements, even though they may not have been familiar with it at first.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

While the overall product and process was great, I would like to recommend that they set and update expectations with deliverables. Several deliverables were delayed and not communicated on time.
