I'm the founder of a ketogenic diet app.

For what projects/services did your company hire DevRecords?

To develop a mobile application MPV using flutter for both ios, android, and firebase as a backend.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted an app that tracks food macronutrients such as net carbs, protein and fats. Integration of 2 Api's for food search. Basic user profiling. User weight tracking. Storing food and user data on Firebase. Had to be cross-platform.

How did you select this vendor?

Searched online for companies in Europe that develop initial MVP software products. Petro was very approachable and communicative, with a flutter developer ready to start when needed. They understood the requirements and asked important questions regarding the build.

Describe the project in detail.

Supplied Dev Records with UX/UI files and Jira spec. Had an initial skype meeting with the Dev Records team, once the initial designs and spec was understood we agreed on 3 sprints to finish the MVP. Communication via skype with daily standups, any problems or questions were discussed throughout the day. Added another sprint as we wanted some more functionality.

What was the team composition?

Project manager, Developer and myself. Had direct communication with both the project manager and dev.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The project was only recently completed. We are extremely satisfied with the results which will allow us to go to market faster with an upcoming release. Have had great reviews from internal testing from ios and android users with minimal bugs.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We stayed in contact over skype, with standups each day. Any problems with spec or clarity were communicated through skype. We used Jira as a product management tool. These methods with Jira and skype seemed to be quite effective for offshore development.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Impressed with the high level of communication as issues were resolved. The Flutter dev was quick to reply with solutions and wrote clean, easy-to-read code with well-defined commits. Commits were done each day or multiple times throughout the day. Patience resolving some difficult bugs was also outstanding. They are masters of thier craft who take pride in the work they create.

Are there any areas for improvement?

None that I can think of.

Though we have 40 engineers, we needed to subcontract more to handle some of the extra work we were experiencing. 

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted the team to develop frontend work for a third-party. We wanted to have the extra hands to speed up development when our other engineers had an overflow of work.

How did you select this vendor?

Their experience in WordPress and frontend resources were appealing to us. I also valued their Russian and English language skills. We were considering other companies, but after their success on the first project we gave them, we’ve decided to keep working with them.

Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

Their work began with building a portal on WordPress that had been falling behind schedule without their help. They worked with our WordPress engineer to follow a technical spec document from our team. We’ve had them work on more third-party projects that require their Javascript, PHP, and WordPress expertise. Their team was responsible for writing production-ready code, reporting progress to the project owner, and delivering time reports.  

What was the team composition?

We worked with a project manager and developer on their team. We also used two of their engineers for shorter timeline. They also provided one developer who would work with our team or with the third-party directly. Generally, we would review their code, be the lead on calls, and ensure the happiness of the end-user.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The third-parties who hired us for the work have been satisfied with DevRecords produced for them. Their work has been great and helpful; it will hopefully lead to more projects.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We primarily communicated through Skype and email and had daily stand-up meetings. Communication with them was effective and we had no issues. Though they were offshore, they were available during most U.S. working hours.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their frontend and WordPress abilities are impressive. They are able to add members to the team quickly when needed, so their flexibility is valuable in these projects.

Are there any areas where they can improve?

Spending more time asking questions in the beginning of projects could help them understand the goals better. In general, I’ve been very pleased with their work but doing this could improve their understanding of the project.

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the technical and marketing director of Oasis HUB. We’re an environmental data portal that provides data for the insurance and reinsurance industries as well as cities, engineers, consultants, and disaster and emergency relief personnel.

For what projects/services did your company hire DevRecords?

Initially, we needed resources to develop our core proposition at oasishub.co. Since then, we’ve expanded their role to include other projects and will soon launch a crowdsourcing service.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted a portal that was easy to use for both data providers and consumers. The portal had to be reliable, scalable, and modular to allow us to integrate new services.

They were highly recommended to us.

Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

DevRecordsprovided full-stack development services. They managed the whole project, giving feedback on design, developing and testing the apps, and then deploying them. They continue to provide ongoing management, including all of the underlying AWS infrastructure.

What was the team composition?

We had a core team of two developers, a designer, a tester and, more recently, a project manager, with weekly inputs from the lead developer. The team scaled up on a couple of occasions to accelerate delivery.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The project is our business, so it’s hyper-critical that it does more than just work. We've received critical acclaim from our primary audiences for the platform’s capabilities.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Because the team is flexible and has a wide range of skills, we initially had one developer who also doubled as a project manager and led weekly check-ins. However, as of the past six months, they've assigned a dedicated project manager, which has helped take the load off of the senior developer and further improved the performance and efficiency of the team.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

It really feels like they’re an in-house team. There’s a sense of duty and care from each of the members. Not only are they very easy to do business with, they’re smart and creative. They propose alternatives to our ideas and consistently provide high-quality service.

Are there any areas where they can improve?

No, nothing comes to mind. Any issues were more from our side. It can be challenging to make sure nothing has been lost in translation when dealing with non-native English speakers. However, their team has excellent English skills.
