TASK:

Create datasets marketplace for large international Insurance consortium. Companies should have a simple platform to upload, manage and sell data. Security is a high priority since datasets are highly valuable.

SOLUTION:

  • We used CKAN - solid open source file management system, tested by many governments and open data companies.
  • For additional flexibility, we integrate CKAN with Django
  • For consumers of data, such as Catastrophe Modellers, Resilience /Risk Officers /City Mayors /Smart City Designers /Operations /Supply Chain Managers, charities and NGO's.

BetterPoints - it is a system of tools for designing and managing interventions that incentivize behavior change 

TASK:

Develop a system to help people keep fit and encourage them to participate in the healthy lifestyle activities, like running, cycling, walking, taking part in group exercises, etc. By participating they are rewarded by points and vouchers that can spend in cafes, shops and other institutions that are partners of the program.

SOLUTION:

  • Develop a website with the corresponding data structure and database to manage the data in the system (administration side)
  • Develop a mobile app to track activities and post them to server

TASK:

To create a mobile app that makes checkout more secure and rewarding for both shoppers and merchants

SOLUTION:

  • API for payments & online stores orders creation API for mobile applications.
  • A browser extension for doing purchases in almost any online store.
  • JavaScript SDK for integration with SwayPay.
  • Merchants dashboard for onboarding & performance monitoring.

OUTCOME: 

This startup is only started getting more and more fans withing the small hotels and the large hotels' systems. Due to its quick processing more and more clients choose SwayPay as the main partner with regard to the payments.

I’m the founder of a full-service software development agency.

For what projects/services did your company hire DevRecords?

Though we have 40 engineers, we needed to subcontract more to handle some of the extra work we were experiencing. 

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted the team to develop frontend work for a third-party. We wanted to have the extra hands to speed up development when our other engineers had an overflow of work.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

Their experience in WordPress and frontend resources were appealing to us. I also valued their Russian and English language skills. We were considering other companies, but after their success on the first project we gave them, we’ve decided to keep working with them.

Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

Their work began with building a portal on WordPress that had been falling behind schedule without their help. They worked with our WordPress engineer to follow a technical spec document from our team. We’ve had them work on more third-party projects that require their Javascript, PHP, and WordPress expertise. Their team was responsible for writing production-ready code, reporting progress to the project owner, and delivering time reports.  

What was the team composition?

We worked with a project manager and developer on their team. We also used two of their engineers for shorter timeline. They also provided one developer who would work with our team or with the third-party directly. Generally, we would review their code, be the lead on calls, and ensure the happiness of the end-user.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The third-parties who hired us for the work have been satisfied with DevRecords produced for them. Their work has been great and helpful; it will hopefully lead to more projects.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We primarily communicated through Skype and email and had daily stand-up meetings. Communication with them was effective and we had no issues. Though they were offshore, they were available during most U.S. working hours.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their frontend and WordPress abilities are impressive. They are able to add members to the team quickly when needed, so their flexibility is valuable in these projects.

Are there any areas where they can improve?

Spending more time asking questions in the beginning of projects could help them understand the goals better. In general, I’ve been very pleased with their work but doing this could improve their understanding of the project.

We wanted a portal that was easy to use for both data providers and consumers. The portal had to be reliable, scalable, and modular to allow us to integrate new services.

DevRecordsprovided full-stack development services. They managed the whole project, giving feedback on design, developing and testing the apps, and then deploying them. They continue to provide ongoing management, including all of the underlying AWS infrastructure.

We had a core team of two developers, a designer, a tester and, more recently, a project manager, with weekly inputs from the lead developer. The team scaled up on a couple of occasions to accelerate delivery.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The project is our business, so it’s hyper-critical that it does more than just work. We've received critical acclaim from our primary audiences for the platform’s capabilities.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Because the team is flexible and has a wide range of skills, we initially had one developer who also doubled as a project manager and led weekly check-ins. However, as of the past six months, they've assigned a dedicated project manager, which has helped take the load off of the senior developer and further improved the performance and efficiency of the team.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

It really feels like they’re an in-house team. There’s a sense of duty and care from each of the members. Not only are they very easy to do business with, they’re smart and creative. They propose alternatives to our ideas and consistently provide high-quality service.

Are there any areas where they can improve?

No, nothing comes to mind. Any issues were more from our side. It can be challenging to make sure nothing has been lost in translation when dealing with non-native English speakers. However, their team has excellent English skills.
