Project management was arranged in a very professional manner. There were no issues, making this project stress-free. NNC Infotech were very transparent and consistent with communication and progression throughout the entire project.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was impressed by their ability to follow instructions precisely without any micro-managing and their turn steady turn-around time.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Not for this project. I shall re-asses in future projects with more complexity.

I’m the owner of Cigars Near Me. It’s a website that helps cigar aficionados engage in the culture by finding shops or lounges close to their location.

I needed a development firm to build my website.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Cigars Near Me is more than just a store locator website. It also functions as a social media platform that supports the conversation and camaraderie around smoking cigars. The site enables users to make connections, post videos, and share pictures. It’s akin to large platforms like Facebook or Instagram but is centered on a niche community with a location component.

Creating the platform has been a massive undertaking, and NNC Infotech built everything from the ground up. We plan to release the first version with minimum functionality and will build onto it according to user feedback. This way, we’ll eventually deliver the high-quality platform that the cigar community needs. They developed the platform using WordPress but customized it to function as a social media site. While it retains aspects of a standard WordPress blog, they’ve transformed it into much more than that using technologies like jQuery, HTML, and Ajax. They’re also working on a mobile version of the platform for Android.

What is the team composition?

I usually interact with a project manager who oversees the two developers assigned to my account. Their owner makes himself available to me once a week to go over the project’s overall strategy.

How did you come to work with NNC Infotech?

I posted this project to Upwork with a description outlining the skills required to complete it. I looked through each application and narrowed them down to five candidates. Then, I interviewed each team and managed to cut the list down to two possible firms. The final decision came down to the price offered by each team and how well we communicated. NNC Infotech offered a better rate, and we quickly developed a rapport. They succeeded in each stage of the selection process, so I hired them.

I’ve spent around $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in March 2016 and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The platform isn’t open to the public yet, so I don’t have specific data to provide. However, I’ve been promoting the site on social media; specifically its “Coming Soon” page where users can add their favorite stores, and we’ve been able to collect hundreds of store locations. If people didn’t like what they saw from that brief sample of our site, they wouldn’t bother entering their information. Additionally, if the technology NNC InfoTech created didn’t work, we wouldn’t have been able to capture that data. That’s all I have to share at this time, but I’m confident in the platform’s success. I’m delighted with everything they’ve done.

How did NNC Infotech perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project manager reports on the work they do each day. I go over the reports and provide feedback regarding their performance. That allows me to see precisely what they’re working on and how my money is being spent. We use Skype for most of our conversations. I appreciate this approach because it keeps me informed. They present everything in an easily understandable way.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They possess a drive to do the right thing and unfortunately, that’s not a common trait anymore. Instead of being motivated solely but dollar amounts, NNC Infotech wants to make their clients happy. They truly want to make the best product possible. I also appreciate their ability to collaborate and communicate. If I see a design element I dislike or a feature that doesn’t work correctly, I’ll reach out to them and we’ll talk it out. Most issues come down to a misunderstanding and are quickly resolved. Finally, I feel lucky to get personal meetings with the company’s owner on a regular basis. He’s full of valuable insight.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They aren’t perfect and everyone has room for improvement. While the time estimates they provide aren’t necessarily inaccurate, I’d like to see how they perform under strict deadlines. However, I recognize that web development rarely goes exactly as planned, and issues are bound to arise.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Keep the channels of communication open and don’t be afraid to give them feedback. Having regular open dialogues improved my experience significantly.

For what projects/services did your company hire DecodeUp Technologies?

We are launching a new mobile app and needed a design that is pleasant for our users to look at. We wanted to create a UI that is not only pleasant to look at, but also something that is easy to use. More specifically, we wanted a UI that has all the needed features but is clean at the same time. DecodeUp has also worked on our landing page which will help us advertise our app via our website. They were also able to add the animations we wanted.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We looked at several bidders on Upwork, and found that DecodeUp has the best reviews. After doing a video call with them via Skype, we were able to see why. They had a great portfolio, they were super communicative, and they were very professional.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

After discussing our app with DecodeUp, they came back with an estimate of what needs to be done and the cost. We proceeded and they quickly turned around and gave us a stunningly great design. We iterated on the design as our product changed and they were able to continuously deliver quickly and with the utmost highest quality possible. When we are done with the design for the mobile app, we had DecodeUp work on our landing page. Again, they did a great job.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We primarily worked with 2 people from DecodeUp - a salesperson and a lead designer. They have a team of engineers, but we primarily contacted the lead designer, who delegated the tasks to others on her team. We enjoyed working with DecodeUp because of their excellent communication.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Their work is amazing. We were able to see their process with a shared Figma file. During our time working with DecodeUp, we felt that this was a collaborative process where we were constantly discussing design ideas and they quickly put our feedback into action. Our app users gave us feedback that the app is easier to use than before.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Everyone on the DecodeUp team was very communicative. We primarily communicated on Skype via messaging and do one video call per week. On some weeks, we had more than one video call because they were able to deliver quickly, so we want to assign them more work. Their response time was relatively quick, typically within 20-60 minutes during business hours.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

My co-founder and I were very impressed with DecodeUp from the moment we hoped on our initial video call. They had a variety of design projects for various mobile apps. In addition, they were able to give us consulting on how we want to establish our brand name.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Their cost estimate for the landing page was slightly higher than we had hoped. However, we proceeded. Looking at what they can do, I firmly believe their work is worth every penny. I would definitely work with them again.
