We have an IT department to take care of our development projects. However, when the time demand is high, or we don’t have enough personnel, we need to work with a team to outsource these needs that surpass our capacities.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Coderland by Dominion is currently developing a web portal for one of our clients. The solution has different components: a process automation platform and a frontend that receives user requirements for various procedures. In this project, Coderland by Dominion is in charge of the portal, which is the platform’s frontend.

For development, they use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The platform also has an API and authentication functionality.

We have a project manager, a full-time developer, and additional developers when we’re in high demand.

They were referred by another of our branch offices. They worked with Coderland by Dominion in the past.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The project is a new development for a government institution, so it has meant a significant upgrade for the client in how they manage their processes. Although there are always things to improve, this is usual for any development project, and our client is happy with the results.

How did Coderland by Dominion perform from a project management standpoint?

We feel very comfortable with Coderland by Dominion’s work. Not only have they been available and delivered within the expected timelines, but they’ve also responded to the tight schedules and changes we’ve made. Moreover, the team has stuck to the budget expectations.

I can’t think of anything right now. We’re comfortable with their work and the results.

The first round of hiring that we had was easy because we were able to find the right candidates after only 2–3 rounds of interviews. The last two positions we hired for were more difficult because of the specificity of the roles.

Coderland by Dominion has performed well in terms of project management. They manage their tasks well. We use ClickUp for project management, and we typically communicate through Slack and Google Meet.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Coderland by Dominion process has been very organized, which makes for a smooth workflow. We also appreciate their transparency.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Coderland by Dominion could improve on understanding our requirements a little better. In the second phase of our project, I ended up interviewing many people that don’t match what we were looking for.

What challenges were you trying to address with Coderland by Dominion?

One of our clients, an educational institution, wanted to build a platform to provide information to their students and strengthen their digital presence. The platform’s UI was a very important component — they wanted to convey a modern image and have a user-friendly site. Although we have very experienced developers, we lack UI/UX design specialists. Thus, we decided to collaborate with Coderland.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Coderland is helping us with our project with the UI/UX design portion. Our client had done some research on the UI/UX they wanted, so they initially provided us with that and some brand guidelines. Based on our client’s input, Coderland has worked on creating the designs using Figma.

We’ve worked with a UI/UX designer, a project manager, and an account manager.

How much have you invested in them?

We’ve spent around €23,000 (approximately $24,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in July 2022, and it’s an ongoing collaboration.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

At the end of 2022, we put into production the first portion of the development process, the public website, implementing Coderland’s designs. The client was very satisfied with the site, and they received very good feedback from associates. Additionally, they told us that their site’s traffic increased significantly. Now, we’re working on the second portion of the project.

How did Coderland by Dominion perform from a project management standpoint?

Coderland has done a pretty good job. They’re based in Venezuela, so we have a big time difference. However, they changed their work schedule so that they could be available for at least 4–5 working hours in our time zone. Their team is in constant communication via Microsoft (MS) Teams, and they always check in on us to solve questions and update us on the project’s progress.

Moreover, the designer Coderland assigned to work directly with us is just like another member of our team. He is always available, and although Coderland is always pending on the project’s progress, we also have enough freedom to handle things directly with the designer. In addition to MS Teams, we use Redmine for project management, which has worked very well.

What did you find most impressive about them?

When starting this project, our main issue was that we needed resources we hadn’t been able to find locally. However, when we talked with Coderland, they made a great effort to find very skilled and experienced resources as quickly as possible. In addition to that, the fact that they’re constantly on top of the project to ensure everything is going well is outstanding. They intensively follow up with both the account manager and the project manager.

Are there any areas they could improve?
There’s nothing Coderland could improve on; we’ve had a very good experience working with them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Ensure to explain your main needs very well. We’ve been very honest with Coderland about our needs regarding the timeline, the number of resources, and the skills required from those resources. Based on that, they were able to offer a solution.

They’ve delivered everything on time and within budget. Also, they provide quick solutions whenever we have issues. Our communication is fluid, so we’re happy with their project management.

I’m the CIO for Tropigas, a Panama-based natural gas company. Our department provides technology solutions to all of our company divisions.

What challenge were you trying to address with Coderland by Dominion?

We required development services to create different solutions across our company, so we hired Coderland.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

In addition to our gas company, we also have a company selling water and another one selling energy. Coderland works with us across all those divisions to help us develop applications for the market and for back-office purposes. Additionally, our partners pay for the rights to sell our products and use our brand, and we provide them with apps for their use.

We’ve worked with Coderland on many projects; they’ve mostly built Android apps using .NET. In addition to that, we use Power BI and Microsoft (MS) tools for business analytics. We required an Android app for one project, and Coderland helped us with backend development using .NET, MS Azure, and other cloud technologies.

Currently, we have three projects for Coderland in the pipeline. On top of their development services, they also help us with our business analytics for all our divisions.

For one of our most important projects, Coderland developed an app to control our eight gas partners nationwide. With this app, our partners can trace every step of the delivery on one screen. We also have a special backend for our commercial division to track all eight partners in the country at the same time. Through this app, teammates in that division can obtain details of each delivery and see how much gas is available in each point of the country to know when they need a gas refill.

We usually work with 6–8 teammates from Coderland, depending on the project. 

How did you come to work with Coderland by Dominion?

One of the freelancers that we used also worked with Coderland, so this person recommended them. When we were looking for a partner to help us to develop our apps, we spent three months vetting different companies. Ultimately, we chose Coderland after talking to them and seeing their work.

The way Coderland understood our needs was key in choosing them. Additionally, they provided competitive prices. Initially, we gave them a small project, which was very successful. Thereafter, we kept giving them more and more projects across our different divisions.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our partnership began at the end of 2019 and is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The partner tracking app Coderland developed has had a huge impact on our business. Before having this app, our partners had to pay around $50 to track each delivery route, and we have 117 routes in total. Now, our partners no longer have to pay for tracking services separately because their partnership payment includes the app for tracking and logistics.

Additionally, Coderland’s work has had a huge impact on our analytics. The way we were doing things before didn’t support how we wanted to visualize our data. Since working with them, they’ve shown us a new and better way to analyze data, so our team is very happy with that.

Other companies don’t teach clients how to improve processes. However, Coderland does, and their guidance has been so impactful because it also reduced our training costs to zero. Now, we don’t have to spend money on training our staff on our technology because Coderland teaches them how to do things in a better and different way. Their services have been priceless. Overall, Coderland has met and exceeded our expectations.

How did Coderland by Dominion perform from a project management standpoint?

Coderland works quickly and stays on schedule almost always. We’ve had some issues on our side where we haven’t been able to have things ready on time, so we’ve delayed some tasks. However, those issues are normal for projects like ours, and Coderland is almost always able to recover from those delays.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Coderland is very professional and willing to share their knowledge with our team. Thanks to that, our development team has gained a lot of knowledge.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Listen to Coderland — they have good ideas. You might have an idea of what you want to achieve and how to achieve it, but Coderland might have a different perspective or a better approach, so it’s best to assess their point of view. I’ve learned that I have to listen to them, which has saved me money on the project.

We needed to grow our team by adding a developer with experience in Android applications.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Coderland by Dominion provided us with staff augmentation services based on hourly contracts. They offered development resources with Java, Kotlin, and Android Studio expertise.

Regarding finding the developers, we started by providing them with a list of our needs and requirements, and they sent us resumes of their developers who met those requirements. Besides the technical requirements, we wanted resources that could adjust to our time zone. After a series of personal interviews, we chose the developers we wanted to add to our team and assigned them to our project afterward.

Coderland by Dominion was good with project management. The developers they provided were present in our meetings with our team, and they assigned a team leader who handled any issues. Regarding communication, we used Skype.

Coderland by Dominion's team stayed very close during the process and was flexible by putting our needs first.

What challenges were you trying to address with Coderland by Dominion?

We contacted Coderland by Dominion for several development projects because we needed to expand our services platform. We hadn't been able to offer all our services due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we decided to build a system that could allow users to request documents such as driverdriver'sses online.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Coderland by Dominion has developed our entire transactions platform using Angular technologies and AWS Database Services. The platform is a responsive web application with a biometric engine to validate citizens’ information. Coderland by Dominion has built the entire interface. 

Our engagement has had continuous growth. Most recently, Coderland by Dominion has worked on the software platform we use in our offices. This system enables users to log in and validates their identity. From there, users need to send electronic documents for the platform to validate along with their biometric information. 

What was the team composition? 

We have direct contact with 2–3 teammates from Coderland by Dominion. One of our main contact points is a commercial director, and we also have a project manager and a development team. 

How did you come to work with Coderland by Dominion?

We found Coderland by Dominion through a referral by a colleague who had worked with them in the past. I had an initial meeting with them, and they made a proposal we really liked. However, we decided to hold off on development for a while. 

Then, when we decided to work on our first project in 2020, we went with Coderland by Dominion because they were trustworthy. 

How much have you invested in them?

The first web development project cost about $25,000. As for the internal office system, we’ve spent about $150,000 with Coderland by Dominion so far. 

What is the status of this engagement? 

Although we signed our first contract in 2019, our project started in May 2020, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Thanks to Coderland by Dominion’s work, we can handle half of the requests we used to attend to in person with the web application. This has enabled us to close one of our offices and reduce costs. We’re currently remodeling our offices based on the new system Coderland by Dominion has helped us implement, representing a further cost reduction of about 30%. 

How did Coderland by Dominion perform from a project management standpoint?

Coderland by Dominion has met all deliverables. As in every project, we’ve had setbacks, but the team has always handled them well. 

We have had direct contact with 2–3 teammates, which makes things easier to coordinate. Still, Coderland by Dominion has been able to scale the team depending on the requirements. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

What I like most about Coderland by Dominion is that they’ve made the right suggestions regarding the best technologies to use. For example, they’ve chosen AWS Database Services and solved any doubts we’ve had in terms of infrastructure. Overall, Coderland by Dominion understands our needs and really cares about our project.

Moneytrans is an international financial services company focused primarily on cross-border payments.

I joined Moneytrans almost 7 years ago as Chief Technology Officer, and since then I lead the different departments (Support, Development, Infrastructure & Networking, Security) in the technical area and contribute to the vision of the company's technology strategy.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Coderland by Dominion, and what were your goals?

Among many others, the three most important projects we have developed together with Coderland are:

• Redesign of Moneytrans Digital: implementing a complete redesign of the Moneytrans web app.
• Re-writing of the mobile apps on Android and iOS in a hybrid format: native + progressive web app.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

When I met Coderland, we were already working with another software development company. We were not satisfied with their delivery, and we were searching for other candidates.

A colleague met them at a conference, and we started talking. Communication was adequate and fluent, and we understood each other well; we did a test for some weeks. It went very well, so we started giving them more small pieces of work, progressively becoming our most crucial development workforce. We stop working with the other provider.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

The redesign of the Moneytrans Digital application (which is our most important platform for end customers) required firstly the modernisation of the technological platform from AngularJS to Angular 8 and secondly the implementation of a complete redesign of the user interface.

We first built a base architecture in the new technology, and from there we migrated, module by module, while at the same time re-implementing the design and all the platform's functionality in AnguarJS.

One of the difficulties of the project was being a combination of two different projects: technology update + user interface modernisation.

For this project, we effectively applied the scrum methodology thanks to the help of Coderland. With each sprint, we delivered modules and screens that had been tested by the QA team.

The project management was carried out in JIRA with 3-week sprints, and all the ceremonies of the methodology were carried out.

The project was taken into production at the end of 2021.

That was a key project, however work with Coderland in many other projects, primarily based on .NET technology.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The main deliverables are the releases of our software that we do in a timely manner, each 5 to 6 weeks, containing all the features, stories and bug fixes developed by the different teams.

Not for all projects but for the main ones, they do sprint reports that are shared with Leads and managers to measure the performance and delivery. Also, they write down recommendations to improve.

We use Slack for communication with all the teams and we work in JIRA, where releases and sprints are planned and executed. They are divided into different teams: general, smile account, compliance, front-end, and mobile. They are led by our IT leads and Product team.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Communication is excellent. They are good at understanding our needs: they treat us as their "customer" and they care about us. We have been able always to work in a respectful environment even when we suffered problems or difficulties on the projects.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

For us, sometimes it's difficult to manage schedules in different time zones. They're already making an effort on their side to share our schedule as much as possible, but since they're based in Latin America, that's not always possible. This is something that we accept since we're working with an offshoring partner.

In our engagement, we make technology decisions and employ Coderland by Dominion as a workforce. Therefore, my advice is to do a daily follow-up with them and have constant communication with them at all times. We constantly communicate through Slack and have dailies with Coderland by Dominion.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Coderland has provided us with specialized application development resources for specific periods. These resources have expertise in cutting-edge technologies, specific languages, platforms, and infrastructure issues. Additionally, they have experience in managing devices such as biometric readers, identity document printers, and other related technologies. The solutions they help us develop must guarantee the security of procedures by validating the identity and ensuring the non-repudiation of the people who carry them out.

What is the team composition?

Around 10 people were assigned to the project.

How did you come to work with Coderland?

A partner of ours told us about Coderland's offering and business model, and we were interested because it fits perfectly with the development of our projects. We chose them because they demonstrated they could meet our specialized staffing needs without having to invest in expensive resources, which we typically need on a project-by-project basis. Additionally, their pricing makes it much easier for us to hire tailored specialized resources and allows us to focus on our business rather than spending too much time on complex staffing searches.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in June 2023. The project was generally completed and delivered; however, we continue to use Coderland's services for maintenance and other similar projects.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Coderland's project was instrumental in changing the way our end client delivers its services to its customers. The project included the development of an online processing portal that guaranteed and improved our client's reach.

Our client's service was based on in-person customer service. The lines for assistance were endless, and there were many complaints. With Coderland, we developed a self-service portal that allowed 33% of in-person transactions to be completed online in the first year, and by the second year, the percentage had already risen to 42%. This obviously impacted the operations of the various branches, allowing us to maximize efforts and improve the quality of service.

How did Coderland perform from a project management standpoint?

Projects are generally completed on time. Obviously, every project has deviations, but these were handled appropriately and within the scope planned at the start of the project. Coderland always handles projects very professionally.

We use various communication methods, including email, in-person meetings with the contact in Panama, virtual meetings, and working groups using various tools.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The quality of the resources assigned has always been top-notch. The most important thing for us is to have qualified personnel who have had very little training with us and who can deliver tasks efficiently and with quality. With Coderland, we meet the objectives of each project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

As I said, all projects have deviations. There's always room for improvement. Once the projects are evaluated, better ways can be found, but overall, I think the project fully met expectations and expectations agreed upon with Coderland.
