We held meeting which captured development progress. This allowed us to generate feedback and help shape the website as it came to life. The team listened and contributed to suggestions which ensured a successful outcome.

What challenge were you trying to address with Chromatix?

We needed a new website designed and built to get more qualified clients and improve our image. We also wanted to refresh our brand.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Chromatix started with a strategy phase and took the time to understand our business, customers, and where we were trying to position ourselves. The team then developed wireframes and started sketching our site, which we requested to be high-performing and high-converting. Regarding design, we knew what we liked but were finding it hard to describe. We gave Chromatix some examples, and the team came back with proposals and created different versions and options. 

Chromatix supported our branding's refresh and helped us define fonts, color schemes, and imagery. The team established our branding guidelines, and since then, we've expanded that style into other brand elements. Once we approved the site's design and branding, Chromatix developed our site in WordPress. The team supported content and copywriting, rewriting our headlines and different text elements to improve conversion. Chromatix launched the site and provided post-launch support.

I met Chromatix through a networking group that I was part of. The team understood what we were trying to do and the premium element of it, which was important. There are many service providers who can deliver a quick website, but that wasn't what we were looking for. We already had a decent site and were trying to lift our image. Chromatix seemed like the best team to achieve our goal.

We engaged with Chromatix in June 2023, and the project lasted three months.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

After launching the site, we saw an increase in sales and received a lot of comments on how good and professional it looked. We identified some defects during the testing phase, and the team fixed them without trouble and gave us an updated theme to install since we hosted the site.

How did Chromatix perform from a project management standpoint?

Chromatix was on track with the deadlines that were set. The team communicated regularly and clearly with us. Usually, projects don't go exactly according to plan, but we were fair in scoping change requests. We communicated mainly via emails.

Irwin (Director) ensured we got excellent results and conversions from the site. He was instrumental in ensuring the branding was right and offered things that weren't formally part of the scope. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was impressed by Chromatix's quality of strategy. The team thought upfront to ensure our investment delivered the results and ROI we sought rather than just delivering a pretty website.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything Chromatix could improve.

I suggest having a clear idea of what you're trying to achieve, your target audience, and your business when you engage with Chromatix. The clearer you can be around that, the better the team will be able to help you.

What challenge were you trying to address with Chromatix?

Our existing website was a poor reflection of where our business was. We had new lines of business and needed a lot of new features and API integrations that our website didn’t have. Thus, we needed to update our website. This project was an interesting challenge because we were also going through a rebranding project, so we had very limited brand guidelines.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Chromatix helped us design and develop our new website from scratch. Initially, we provided them with our limited brand guidelines, which included our logo and a few colors. At the same time, we were working on an app, so we also shared with Chromatix the Figma file of the colors we were using for that app.

From there, Chromatix took the lead in providing the design direction for the new website, introducing one or two new colors to use on the website’s header and footer. In terms of our requirements, we were going for certain aesthetics.

As we’re an eco-friendly brand, we wanted something clean and modern while still being vibrant and showcasing our people. Our goal was to set us apart from our competitors from a design perspective as much as possible.

After I gave them the brief, Chromatix came back with the concept for the website, which we liked immediately. For this process, we gave them flexibility regarding how playful we wanted the design to be because it wasn’t established in our brand guidelines. Therefore, the first design had certain elements that we ultimately simplified.

For this project, we got a new domain, so Chromatix also helped us with the migration process. As for the technology stack, they used WordPress to build the site. The development process included performing an API integration. Our website required a map feature using data from our app.

What is the team composition?

My first engagement was with Irwin (Director). After establishing the scope, we also worked with Nick (Project Manager) and Mel (Former Lead Web Designer). Moreover, developers were working in the background. Overall, we worked with 4–5 teammates from Chromatix.

How did you come to work with Chromatix?

When we were looking for a partner, I spoke to around seven different agencies to see which would be the best fit. We ended up choosing Chromatix due to their approach to design and conversion strategy. During our initial conversations, they were very transparent about the websites they worked on and the budget range they offer.

How much have you invested with them?

Overall, we spent around $80,000–$85,000 AUD (approximately $51,000–$54,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We first engaged with Chromatix around July 2022, and we just wrapped up the project in September 2023. Still, they’ve offered ongoing maintenance moving forward, and we can reach out to them whenever needed.

Initially, we were going after a very simple website. Over the months, there were more business lines introduced, which required new features for the website; that was why it was a long process.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our new website feels more modern and conveys a more established brand due to its improved consistency, which is a huge difference compared to our former website. Recently, I presented it to my company, which has around 90 staff members, to walk them through the site and show them what was new. The immediate feedback I got was that the site looked very professional; everyone was very happy about it.

Aside from the design improvements, what Chromatix did very well was setting a conversion strategy for our site. Thanks to them, we were able to set some goals for our Google Analytics, and we now have better use of our forms.

For example, we have a conditional logic setup, which will help our team. We got a lot of inquiries for different areas of our business. If someone selects one of our services, they’ll get directed to the right team within our company.

Another successful addition was the API integration for the map feature. Given that we offer electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, our customers always want to know how many charging stations we have. Before this project, we were using a plug to show our many sites, but the UX was terrible. Now, we have the map of our locations both on our site and our app, which is a huge improvement.

How did Chromatix perform from a project management standpoint?

Chromatix was very transparent from the start. Initially, they were very clear about the key milestones, key project phases, and how long each of those phases would take. During the design phase, Mel left the team unexpectedly, so Chromatix had to bring in a new person. Although we lost a week or two, they made up for that time during the development phase. We had a deadline to meet, so they went the extra mile for us to meet it.

During the project, we had weekly meetings and communicated via email. After every meeting, Nick sent an email with the actions needed so that everyone was clear on what they had to do; it was a group effort. Additionally, we shared messages via Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Something that stood out about working with Chromatix is that they have a very good professional network, so they were able to connect us with the SEO agency we’re working with now. Additionally, they recommended the hosting provider we’re using, WP Engine.

Still, the most impressive thing for me was the initial engagement. I respected how transparent they were from the start. Moreover, they were very lenient with us. We have very strict security policies, so we had to go back and forth over the master agreement to ensure my CEO was happy with the terms; it took a lot of negotiating.

Regarding security, we asked to do our own code review, so Chromatix gave our team access to their GitHub repository to ensure our team was happy with everything. They were very understanding of our concerns, and ultimately, they agreed to what we asked for.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would have been great if they improved their training sessions. Our website had 7–9 different modules, and we went over the entire site during a 90-minute training session. I was already familiar with WordPress because I’d built sites before, so it wasn’t a problem for me.

However, for some of our staff members who weren’t familiar with WordPress, there were a lot of things to go through. Thus, it would have been great if we went over the entire site in two sessions instead of one. Still, the session was recorded, so we can go back and check it whenever needed.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Building a website is a big project that many people underestimate. Challenging things come up along the way. My advice is to be very clear about the scope. If you agree to a scope and a budget, adding things later down the line will obviously come at an extra cost, which might catch you off guard.

I’m a co-owner and director at a professional services firm in the accounting industry. We provide tax services, compliance work, contract training, and auditing for small and medium-sized businesses. We also offer auditing services for various companies and charities.

We saw our website as a marketing tool and wanted to maximize engagement with users and attract them to call us. To us, the website is the starting point of a journey, like the cover of a book; if it’s enticing, readers want to open the first page. Our current website’s frontend wasn’t as engaging as we wanted and didn’t have a call to action, resulting in a lack of traffic and conversions. Therefore, we hired Chromatix to refresh our website.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Chromatix provided us with web design and development services. One of the brief’s requirements was the ability to modify the website’s contents on the go. Since our previous website was hard-coded, Chromatix redesigned it and developed it from scratch using WordPress.

Additionally, we discontinued the previous website design, which was clunky and hard to navigate. We had gone through a slight rebrand, provided Chromatix with our new color scheme, and discussed what we wanted, but other than that, we left it up to the team to create the new design. Our requirements included a space for articles and resources for our potential customers. 

After they put together the framework, our internal team wrote the website’s content. Chromatix migrated some articles from our previous blog.

The team composition changed at different stages of the project. At first, we worked with Chromatix’s three directors during requirements gathering. After they completed the site’s framework, we worked with 4–5 teammates from Chromatix.

How did you come to work with Chromatix?

I know Chromatix’s owner personally as a business acquaintance and friend. We considered other options, but Chromatix stood out for how they approached the website's marketing aspects and what the site could do for us rather than how it would look. I was looking for a website that could drive traffic and engagement, so we chose Chromatix.

We spent in excess of $50,000 AUD (approximately $32,000 USD). 

What is the status of this engagement?

The website development lasted from the third quarter of 2020 to the fourth quarter of 2022. After that, we entered into maintenance mode.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our end client’s feedback was positive; their experience improved because payment was easier. While our previous website didn’t resize properly on different devices, the new website worked correctly on all devices. The site also made it easier for prospective clients to find us, and they were impressed with how easy it was to find what they wanted to know.

Chromatix’s design was based on marketing, which was helpful. Anyone can design a website that looks good, but Chromatix added elements that drove traffic and led users to call us. With our previous website, we had to contact our developer to make any changes. Now, I can log in and change the wording, post an article, or make any other adjustments. 

How did Chromatix perform from a project management standpoint?

They met deadlines. We had a delay with creating the site’s content on our side, and Chromatix followed up with us, managing the project. We primarily communicate with them via email. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Chromatix’s owner instilled a level of passion for his work and what he wants to provide for his clients. He was enthusiastic and knew his products could create conversions. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We elected not to use them for content creation and should have. Since our company comprises accountants, creating the content wasn’t enjoyable. However, this was an issue with us and not them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You should really believe in the sales process. Even when your nature isn’t to sell things, there will always be a sales element that should be considered when looking at your website’s design.

When the project first started, we had a couple of meetings to go through what we required, the goals and timelines. The Chromatix team was excellent in sharing their vast knowledge on what they found worked best and the ways to achieve our goals. When the design phase started, they provided regular updates and allowed me to provide feedback at each stage. During the development phase, they were also really responsive on any questions I had throughout.

The co-founder of an organization that helps people overcome addictive food behaviors that lead to health issues and weight gain. We have a community of food addiction coaches and a range of products that include personal coaching, books, courses, and memberships.

What challenge were you trying to address with Chromatix?

We decided that we needed to have a more professional customer-facing website with booking functionalities, and Chromatix helped us with that.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We asked Chromatix to build a whole new website for us. Our old one had good bits to it, but we had put a lot of it together ourselves. I started by telling Irwin (Director) what we required and he went on to do the design for our website. He created a whole new look and feel and architected some of the backend structures as well. 

He actually recommended someone else to do that development since we were on a very tight budget. We brought in everything else from the old site such as the CRM system, LearnDash plugin for our courses, ActiveCampaign for our email management, and WooCommerce. We retained all of the same integrations and updated these so as to improve the speed of the site and allow it to accommodate fancier graphics. 

The new website was built on WordPress and Irwin designed it in such a way that I could add content myself without ruining the layout.

I worked with Irwin and two other designers.

I did a Google search for creative development and design agencies in Melbourne and found Irwin at the top of the results. Immediately looked at his website and decided to work with him.

We spent about $13,500.

What is the status of this engagement?

We kicked off in July 2020 and took about six months to complete the design. I still go to Irwin for questions, which he is always amazingly helpful with.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our conversion rate has gone up, but I can't wholly attribute it to the design since we were doing different bits and pieces of the structure with the other development agency. However, I consider it a success that Chromatix was able to execute the feel that we wanted. That was the biggest part because we didn't have that before. We’re very happy with what our website is putting across as it has helped change the way we do things on our end as well.

How did Chromatix perform from a project management standpoint?

The project management was above and beyond. Every step of the way, the communication was good and I was never in the dark and never made to wait. Irwin was so prompt return calls, especially in the beginning when we were sorting out how we could work together to achieve what I wanted on the budget that I had. He just got back to us straight away, understood where we were coming from, and very quickly captured the vibe that we were wanted to get across on our website.

I've never come across anyone who was such a relief to work with. We’ve worked with a lot of people who just never do what they say, but Chromatix was fantastic.

We communicated through Zoom and email and used the InVision app to look at the actual design, trade comments and inputs, and make updates. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I can't say enough about their speed and communication. Irwin was so intuitive and really listened to us. Everything worked out better than we could’ve imagined; the whole process was so seamless.

No, there aren’t.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Don’t be afraid to bring all your ideas to Chromatix because they will be able to make sense of them and incorporate them into their design. They really listen, so you can leave it to them to get the job done.

I’m the head of marketing at Access4, a wholesale unified communications business. Our business is about creating carrier-grade unified communication solutions and expandable product roadmaps.

We have a proprietary platform that automates and simplifies the provisioning, management, and invoicing. Managed service providers can add a voice product suite onto their product offering with ease. It’s a really powerful solution and a really powerful value proposition but a very difficult premise to communicate.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Chromatix?

We weren’t sure how to promote our product, how to gain interest, and how to acquire the right audiences. We needed to balance the benefits of being a partner with us with the needs of our end-users, who are actually looking for a high-quality enterprise-level solution.

We really needed a website that would be able to convey that message to the right audience and grab their attention.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They rebuilt our website including the design and new brand positioning. They wrote new content.

We have a really strong style guide with some really lovely blue to teal colors and strong gradient elements but they weren’t utilized very well. The previous site was very blocky and it had a lot of stock imagery. The formatting was odd and it had hierarchy issues. It didn’t have the functionality to offer landing pages that we could run campaigns. Due to the poor design, the site wasn't optimized for conversion. By rebuilding the website, Chromatix was able to fix a lot of the formatting and functionality issues we had.

I also needed a marketing head to run this as opposed to just a web agency. I was a one-person team and really needed to pair with an agency that I didn’t have to explain things to. Chromatix really thought about UI/UX design and conversion, and understood how the tech space design and industry trends would need to influence the site.

I spoke with the CEO about what we were looking for from a proposal process. Once we were past that stage, I was working with a project manager, a designer, and a head of development. I worked predominantly through the project manager and pulled in the other two as required for more specific things.

How did you come to work with Chromatix?

I started searching for conversion-focused website agencies that would still be able to deliver a great design. After performing a Google search, Chromatix really stood out to me because their website was exactly what I’d want to see from my project. I had an initial conversation with Irwin (Director). Right away, he demonstrated his attention to detail. Additionally, his experience exceeded other agencies.

We started working together in May–August 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We saw a substantial drop of traffic, but that’s common after platform migration projects. However, our conversion rate improved, which was really great. Since then, we’ve seen bounces decrease by about 13%, while search duration has gone up by 22%, and pages per session increased by 24%. As a result, we saw 100% conversion rate increase.

It really showed that we were able to nail down that language and customer journey, and Chromatix played a key role in that. They went through and reviewed the content. Irwin asked me questions to make sure everything was right. I definitely felt supported in the marketing aspect as well.

The website has actually influenced our brand across all of our channels. It’s changed the way that we do our social. It’s changed the way we create our brochures. It’s changed the way we create our videos. Everything that we’ve done has spun off of this website. That speaks to how paramount their contribution was.

How did Chromatix perform from a project management standpoint?

It was a really seamless process. The project manager kept everything in check. She made sure that the timelines were really clear and that everything was running on schedule. It was a very paced exercise. We had some extremely tight timelines. The website needed to be completed within three months, so we required same day approvals and constant communication. They were really great about it from day one, which helped them meet the deadline.

The communication was great. They didn’t feel like a supplier to me — they felt like an extension of my team. All along, they supported me. Through the proposal process to get board approval to getting the project over the finish line, they helped me through the process. I would not hesitate to work with this team again. It was such a great achievement.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They really understand conversion, marketing, and B2B. During development, they kept our business objectives in mind. When I sat down with the designers and developers, I really got a sense of the breadth of their expertise and how they push things in their field to create websites that are more innovative and more creative than what we typically see from an agency. Are there any areas they could improve?

We had a range of server, security, and hosting requirements that they hadn’t seen before. That was uncharted territory for them, but now they have a better understanding of those requirements. The only thing that would have made a difference during that time would be having our project manager in on it sooner. She was probably pulled in a little bit later.

Take the time and explain your business and your business objectives. If they get it, they will deliver.
