Bertoni Solutions

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm a senior project manager for digital projects at a retail company. We operate modern building materials and craft centers, offering construction companies, craftsmen, and DIY enthusiasts a wide range of materials and comprehensive services on-site and online.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Bertoni Solutions?

We needed support to develop and continuously improve our mobile and digital solutions, particularly our customer app. Our main goals were to provide customers with an easy and reliable way to access product information, place orders, and use digital services on the go while ensuring stable integration with our existing ERP and e-commerce landscape. We also wanted a flexible partner who could respond quickly to new business requirements and support the ongoing development of our digital customer experience.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Bertoni Solutions handled the development and ongoing enhancement of our customer app. Their scope included the technical development of the mobile application, integration with our existing ERP and e-commerce systems, implementation of ordering and product-related functions, and continuous maintenance and support. They also supported us with new features, technical improvements, bug fixes, and adaptations required as our digital landscape evolved. The main deliverable was a stable, user-friendly mobile solution that gave our customers convenient access to our products and digital services.Specifically, Bertoni Solutions was responsible for several key parts of our customer app, including the mobile UI, product catalog and product information, customer login and account-related functions, and the ordering process. They also implemented and maintained the integrations with our ERP and other backend systems so that product, customer, and order data could be exchanged reliably. In addition, they supported us with ongoing enhancements, new features, technical updates, and bug fixes as our requirements evolved.

What is the team composition?

We worked with 2–5 teammates from Bertoni Solutions.

How did you come to work with Bertoni Solutions?

Bertoni Solutions was referred to me.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from May–August 2022.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The clearest measurable outcomes were the successful and stable operation of the customer app, reliable processing of digital orders, and consistent data exchange with our ERP and backend systems. We were also able to introduce new functions and technical improvements without disrupting day-to-day business. In addition, issues could be identified and resolved quickly, which improved the overall stability and usability of the app. While we didn't define all project goals through formal KPIs, the ongoing use of the app, successful order processing, and stable system integrations were clear indicators of progress and success for our company. We also monitored operational indicators such as the number of orders placed through the app, general usage of the application, and the stability of the order and ERP integrations. However, these metrics were mainly used internally to assess adoption and system performance rather than as formal contractual KPIs for Bertoni Solutions. For us, the most important indicators were that customers actively used the app, orders were processed reliably, and the platform remained stable as new features and improvements were introduced.

How did Bertoni Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

Bertoni Solutions managed the project in coordination with our internal teams. Timelines were generally discussed and aligned based on the respective scope and requirements. As with many development projects, individual priorities and delivery dates were adjusted where necessary during the course of the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

What stood out most was their ability to work with our existing systems and adapt to changing requirements. The collaboration was pragmatic, with a focus on finding workable solutions within our technical environment.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There were no major issues from our perspective. As with any development project, clearer prioritization and more structured communication around timelines and changes could sometimes have been helpful. Overall, these were more points for improvement than significant concerns.

The solution was developed with Xamarin for the Phone app which could be compiled to use in Android and iOS. The Backend aswell as the Web Application was developed using Microsoft ASP.NET. Every Sprint we delivered a new feature to the customer with which he could already start to work and give feedback as well as new requirements.
