We needed to move our site from Magento to WordPress WooCommerce.

What was the scope of their involvement?
Arete Soft Labs Inc. provided full web development and e-commerce support for Heat of the Moment Express. Their work included rebuilding and improving our online store, supporting the transition to WooCommerce, setting up product pages, categories, variations, pricing, checkout functions, pickup and delivery options, and custom cart/discount rules.The main scope of work included website development, WooCommerce configuration, product catalog setup, checkout and order-flow improvements, delivery/pickup logic, SEO-related product page structure, Google/marketing tracking support, plugin setup, bug fixes, testing, and ongoing technical support after launch.Arete Soft Labs Inc. built the new WooCommerce version of our website from scratch, including the main e-commerce setup, checkout flow, product structure, pickup and delivery options, cart rules, discount logic, plugin configuration, and the overall ordering system needed for our local Toronto/GTA delivery business.Our previous site already had our brand, product catalog, business model, delivery process, pickup option, service areas, and general customer ordering concept. Arete Soft Labs Inc. didn’t create the business from scratch, but they rebuilt and modernized the website platform and improved many of the existing functions from the old site.The main items built fresh on the new site included the WooCommerce store setup, checkout configuration, product variation structure, cart/minipurchase rules, pickup and delivery logic, order email setup, plugin integrations, and custom development needed to make the site work for our 1-hour delivery and pickup operation.The parts they updated or improved from the previous site included the product catalog, product pages, categories, images, descriptions, SEO structure, checkout experience, discount rules, customer messaging, delivery/pickup workflow, inventory handling, and general website performance and usability.Overall, Arete Soft Labs Inc. took the existing business model and older website requirements and rebuilt them into a newer WooCommerce-based e-commerce system while also making improvements, fixes, and customizations along the way.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The measurable outcomes from our project with Arete Soft Labs Inc. were mainly seen in the successful launch and operation of the new WooCommerce website, improved order handling, and better support for our local delivery and pickup business model.Arete Soft Labs Inc. helped us move from our previous website platform to a newer WooCommerce-based e-commerce system. A major outcome was that we were able to continue processing online orders through a rebuilt store with working product pages, product variations, cart rules, checkout functions, pickup options, delivery logic, and order-processing features.Some of the measurable results and signs of progress included:From a business perspective, the project helped keep the company’s online ordering system active and scalable. After the site rebuild, we continued operating as an online local delivery business, with order volume, average order value, and website sales remaining key performance indicators.The project was successful because Arete Soft Labs Inc. didn’t only build a basic website; they helped rebuild and improve the e-commerce system that supports our day-to-day sales, delivery coordination, product catalog, customer checkout experience, and ongoing online operations.We were able to track conversion performance after the new site launched, but we don’t usually disclose the exact conversion rate publicly because it’s internal business data.In the beginning, there was no major immediate change. It took approximately 3–5 months of tracking before we could properly measure the results and see the real impact of the new website.Over time, we saw that the site was doing a better job converting the traffic we already had. Our goal wasn’t necessarily to increase website hits because we already expected traffic to remain limited. The main goal was to improve the percentage of visitors who completed an order.Under my direction, and with the custom work completed by Arete Soft Labs Inc., the product pages, checkout flow, pickup and delivery options, cart rules, and ordering experience were improved. Those changes helped reduce friction and improved our ability to convert visitors into completed customers.Aside from conversion rate, one of the key outcomes we tracked was the reliability and responsiveness of the technical support.For our business, website issues can directly affect live orders, customer checkout, delivery coordination, and revenue. Arete Soft Labs Inc. was very responsive whenever we had urgent issues. They consistently answered my calls, responded quickly to email requests, and handled emergency website problems properly and in a timely manner.Another important KPI was not only sales performance but operational support: how quickly issues were acknowledged, how fast emergency requests were handled, and whether the website stayed functional for day-to-day ordering.That was very important to us because our business depends on customers being able to place orders quickly, especially for local 1-hour delivery and pickup.
How did Arete Soft Labs Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?
Arete Soft Labs Inc.’s project management was good, especially in terms of communication, responsiveness, and handling issues as they came up. The project wasn’t managed around a strict deadline, and to be honest, we didn’t expect everything to be delivered exactly on time. We only had one person internally managing the project, and there were many custom requirements, changes, testing issues, and business-specific adjustments along the way. Because of that, we expected the project to take longer than a standard website build. Our main concern wasn’t speed — it was making sure the website functioned properly for our business model. Arete Soft Labs Inc. stayed involved, answered calls, responded to emails, handled urgent issues, and continued working through the customizations until the site supported our product pages, checkout flow, pickup and delivery options, cart rules, and ordering process. So while the project wasn’t purely a “delivered exactly on time” type of project, I would still describe their project management as reliable and responsive. They worked with us through a complex build and helped get the important parts completed properly.
What did you find most impressive about them?
What I found most impressive about working with Arete Soft Labs Inc. was their patience, professionalism, and calm approach throughout the project.To be honest, I don’t think we were always the easiest customer. We had a lot of demands, many custom requirements, and we pushed their team hard because moving our website was a very serious and stressful process for our business.Throughout all of that, their project manager remained calm, professional, and understanding. They listened to our concerns, worked through issues with us, and helped guide us through the process step by step.Moving an active e-commerce website is scary because the website directly affects sales, customer orders, checkout, delivery, and daily operations. Arete Soft Labs Inc. helped us get through that process with professionalism, patience, and steady communication.That was probably the most impressive part: even when the project was stressful or demanding, they stayed calm, responsive, and focused on helping us get the site working properly.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Overall, we were happy with Arete Soft Labs Inc.’s work and support. If there was one area that could be improved, it would be more proactive recommendations after the main project was completed.We believe a website is always an ongoing project. There’s always something new to test, update, patch, improve, or implement. As the business owner, I may not always know what new technical options are available or what improvements could help the site perform better.In a perfect world, it would be helpful if the developer occasionally reached out with suggestions, updates, patches, or new ideas that could improve the website, checkout flow, performance, security, or customer experience.I understand they may not always have time to do that without a formal maintenance or consulting agreement, but that would be a valuable service. Their emergency support and communication were very good, but more proactive guidance would make the relationship even stronger.
