We initially had a positive experience during the prototype phase.

Unfortunately, the development phase differed significantly from the prototype phase, and the overall outcome was disappointing.

Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage other founders to ensure any contract clearly shares responsibility between parties, defines measurable outcomes, and includes accountability for delivery.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

A functional prototype was delivered that demonstrated the core concept and validated initial assumptions.

Early design artefacts and workflows were produced, which helped clarify requirements and user expectations.

However, during the full development phase, planned milestones and functional outcomes were not consistently met, and the final product did not reach a level suitable for production use.

As a result, while there was early conceptual progress, the project did not achieve the measurable delivery outcomes required at the development stage.

Project management lacked consistency, and delivery timelines were not met.

Items were frequently delayed, including the initial prototype, and revised timelines were often introduced without corresponding improvements in delivery outcomes.

Communication was generally responsive, however progress did not align with agreed expectations, and dependencies and risks were not effectively managed to keep the project on schedule.

Overall, delays accumulated across phases, and the project did not progress in a predictable or time-bound manner.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The most notable aspect was the initial concept exploration during the early prototype phase, which helped articulate the problem space and validate the idea at a high level. Beyond that early stage, no elements stood out as unique or differentiated during the subsequent development phase.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Appomate could have done differently?

Greater alignment between communication, expectations, and delivery reality was needed. While progress was often described in positive terms, this was not consistently reflected in tangible outcomes or completed deliverables.

Clearer upfront scoping, more realistic timelines, and earlier acknowledgement of risks and limitations would have improved transparency and decision-making throughout the project. Stronger ownership of delivery outcomes, rather than optimistic reassurances, would also have helped manage expectations more effectively.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Appomate handled our mobile app development needs. After agreeing on the requirements and timeline and finalizing the execution plan, they proceeded with the development of our mobile app. They also helped us build an Android and iOS version of the app. 

We’ve already launched the app, but there’s still some follow-up work that needs to be done by their team, such as resolving any bugs that may pop up along the way.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Appomate finished building the app within six weeks, and it has already gone live. We actually conducted rigorous QA tests prior to the deployment, and the results were positive. We saw that all of the app’s functionalities were working exactly as expected, and its presentation looked exactly as how we envisioned it to be.

How did Appomate perform from a project management standpoint?

We’re in constant communication with the assigned project manager. For communication, we mainly use WhatsApp and Google Meet.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re impressed with Appomate’s execution speed and the quality of their work. Our app is pretty complicated to build, but their team has managed to deliver it within the expected timeframe.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I honestly can’t think of anything that Appomate could improve on at the moment.

I’m the founder and CEO of an audio social media application.

What challenge were you trying to address with Appomate?

We needed help with mobile application development. We previously went through another company, but we weren’t happy with them. They were slow and expensive, and the work was of poor quality. Moreover, they refused to fix many issues without charging a fair bit of money, which should’ve been included in the price.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Appomate has continued our project, taking over from the other company. They’ve fixed all the issues they left and are working on the code we requested.

The app is available for iOS and Android, and we also have a live website. They’re currently working on a feature that allows users to move the time of the content back and forth on a locked screen or the notification section.

Currently, we have two team members: one works on the backend and the other on the frontend.

We were initially with another development company. Appomate is the third company we’ve worked with for this project.

We moved on to Appomate, and it has been much better. Some parts have been good, and some areas have taken longer to sort out. It depends on what they’re doing because some things are easier to fix than others.

How did Appomate perform from a project management standpoint?

We applied to put it in the Apple Store, but we kept getting rejected. We had to fix issues 6–7 times, which caused a delay. Although they’ve been slightly slipping behind, they’ve been alright in general.

We mostly use email and Slack for communication. Additionally, we have a weekly meeting on Tuesdays with the coders. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Appomate is quick and affordable. When we ask them to do something, they do it, whereas other companies charge extra.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their internet connection seems a bit slow when they’re demonstrating during meetings. We’ve pointed that out to them, and they’re trying to fix it.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Anyone building an app should have a budget to test the company out and have a trial before you commit to them.

I’m a product manager and scrum master at a charity focused on mental health and wellbeing to help schools, community organizations, and corporates with their staff and culture.

What challenge were you trying to address with Appomate?

As part of our training workshops, we have technical solutions: a culture-based solution and one for mental health and wellbeing. We hired Appomate to build a native iOS and Android mobile app solution and a web portal.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Appomate provides us with mobile app development. We started by providing them with our brief on the initial concept of the app and business requirements. They helped us create mock-ups and then designed the UI/UX. From there, they developed and tested the app. The team has also helped us with app store optimization (ASO). 

Regarding deliverables, the first was a set of wireframes for the app’s UX. The next ones were designs for the look and feel of the app that we had to approve. The final deliverable has been the ongoing delivery of the iOS and Android app, including a beta phase and a production phase. 

The app helps teams to stay in touch, especially now with remote work. The app gives us a way to track how everyone’s emotions are from day to day. Should users be distressed, the app asks them if they’d like to contact a support member or notify them that they’d like a call. If the user decides to do so, support leaders are notified and get in touch with the team member. The app also helps companies run employee assistance programs (EAP). We put these services front and center through our app, so if users require them, they’re two clicks away.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’re satisfied with everything Appomate has built so far. The majority of the user feedback has been supportive and fair. The only 1–2 times we’ve had a one or two-star rating, it’s been due to an OS conflict on the users’ side. We’ve stayed with Appomate because of their ease of communication, flexibility in resourcing, and ability to help guide us and provide advice. Overall, they treat us like a true partner.

How did Appomate perform from a project management standpoint?

They deliver on time and within our budget. They consistently deliver everything within a week of our planned delivery date, and every deviation is known, so we’ve had no surprises. The team has never been more than a couple of weeks late, with the exception of one case involving iOS and Android updates. 

They communicate immediately, and if there’s an issue, they raise it quickly. We use Jira to scope out the work and track it. Slack is our day-to-day communication tool, and we run our dailies through Google Meet. If there’s an emergency, we use WhatsApp. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

We appreciate that Appomate can give us feedback on the design and propose additional options. They don’t just do what we ask them to do; they let us know the pitfalls and tell us when features would clash with other functions. The team looks at development from a holistic solution point of view and not just to get the work done. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Since we run the project in development cycles, whenever we finish one, we have a retrospective, and we’ve been improving our processes from sprint to sprint. Although we’re always looking for things to improve, there’s nothing I can point to that they need to work on at this stage.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be clear about what you’re trying to build and who it’s for. Once you have that, you can fine-tune what the app looks and feels like and what you hope to achieve. You should also be clear about the use case and the KPIs because they might clash in some rare cases.

I’m the co-founder and director of a visitor management system company. Our system is a cloud-based technology that allows people to create and customize their own sign-in system for the different visitors that come into their premises.

What challenge were you trying to address with Appomate?

We launched the system in 2013, but we needed to redevelop it. We wanted to move it from the company we were using. Basically, we had to rebuild the product from the ground up because it was getting slow, clunky, and it was no longer capable of meeting our needs.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We turned to Appomate to achieve our goals and develop, design, and work alongside us to move forward with the new features and functions. We initially provided a brief based on our product in the market. However, we were looking for a new design. We had to reach the first stage, and now we’re doing maintenance, management, design, and integration as we move forward into further requirements.

The system is a software-driven, cloud-based product. It’s driven by the technology used in tablets, whether it’s an Android or Apple one. It allows people to run the application, and there’s an online dashboard that helps managing people signing in and out. As a software-based product, it also gives the organization their own control on how they need the system built.

For example, a contractor coming in to work on a site would have different questions to fill out than a visitor or employee that needs to sign in that they’ve arrived. The organization can make the changes they need to and design the different questions and requirements per visitor. Once a visitor has signed in, the information is captured and stored in the dashboard, where they can run a report, see who’s on-site, and manage it.

What is the team composition?

They’ve had up to six different people working from frontend to backend, including UI design and database development. I don’t know the exact positions, but they have a range of skil sets to come up with the end product. In the beginning, we spoke with Barath (Managing Director).

How did you come to work with Appomate?

We searched online and had 3–4 proposals from the brief that we laid out. They responded, and meeting with Barath put our mind at ease because he understood who we were and what we were trying to achieve. He was straightforward and honest about the company and how they run it.

We met a couple of times and spoke about the project. They put forward their proposals, and we liked how they dealt with it. We weren’t looking just to build a product, we needed to work alongside a flexible team who’d be able to make changes as required. In the end, Appomate was the most reactive and responsive company; they could give us that support and flexibility we needed.

We’ve spent close to $100,000 AUD (approximately $73,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We began our collaboration in May 2020, and it’s ongoing. We continue to develop the product and will be working on it for the next 12 months.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve achieved a better solution — the design is better, and the development team has worked to satisfy our requirements. The main design and build have been extremely stable, and we’ve been happy with the results we’re getting. Overall, the feedback from customers has been really positive, and it’s assured us that we’re doing the right thing.

How did Appomate perform from a project management standpoint?

The support that we get is outstanding. We’ve dealt with the same team and contact person throughout the project. In this industry, employees come and go, specially during a pandemic. However, we’ve had an excellent team for the last six months. We’re absolutely rock-solid, and the leadership in management is our single focal point to deal with.

We communicate through a range of Zoom, Google Meets, and Teams meetings, as well as phone calls and emails. We also use WhatsApp, so we’ve got a direct link with the team to contact them whenever we need.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their response time and communication are outstanding. We still have a local team, but how they respond to us and their communication is pretty much step-by-step. We’re always in control and in the middle of what’s going on, so we don’t feel left out at any stage. Moreover, our regular meetings keep the communication line open and with less chance of error.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I don’t have anything to point out in regard to improvements. We’re happy with where we stand. I suppose they could help us conceptually with ideas towards what we’re developing and give us and input, but we don’t expect that from the team. It’s our product and our ideas.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You have to understand how your product and technology works and be clear on what you want. If you’re building something that has never been done before, you have to clarify the team how it’s going to work to the finest detail that you can imagine. Otherwise, there’s a lot of opportunity for misunderstandings in this industry.

Appomate’s quality of work has been far above that of companies I’ve used in the past. The team has been really good at communicating with us about the design and product. They’ve added a lot of good ideas and features to the app that have made it far better.

They performed really well from a project management standpoint. Even though I’ve been very lenient with the deadlines, they’ve worked pretty fast and have gotten ahead of the due dates. 

Email and video calls have been our predominant ways of communicating.

Appomate is very committed to making sure I get the product I want and that I’m happy with their service.

For what projects/services did your company hire Appomate?

We needed to reach the 80,000+ concrete placer market to improve their education about concrete and thereby reduce defects in the industry and costs.

What were your goals for this project?

To establish a simplified concrete placement tool that processed complex weather and location data in real time to provide concrete placement guidance. We also wanted to build a data base of concrete placers to up-sell other education products.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We established a design / project brief and undertook a competitive tender process to the market for providers.

The core of the project was an algorithm that converted location and weather data in real time to determine the evaporation rate. This becomes critical for placement and curing of concrete and its ultimate quality. We provided the technical knowledge and guidance and scope for the app.

What was the team composition?

The team had a lead, key contact and development team in India. Appomate provided a client liaison locally and strategic support with the development team located overseas. The team changed size over the life of the project to manage the work.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The app has had very strong uptake from concrete placers given its simplicity and value in predicting concrete placement weather conditions. It has enabled placers to improve the quality of their work and manage their staff resources more efficiently.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Project management was effective with a gantt chart detailing key milestones and deliverable. While there were some delays and set backs through the development process, these were quickly resolved with face-to-face support.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The high quality engagement and regular feedback ensured this complex project delivered some great outcomes. The team was always professional and proactive in the way they worked with us to deliver the best outcome possible.

Are there any areas for improvement?

The liaison with the overseas development team could be improved to ensure clarity of purpose and outcome. With the team based in a different time zone this sometimes caused delays. The need for a forward maintenance contract and the structure of that could have been better explained and integrated into the development proposal.

We hired Appomate for the Development of the App. They are the technical team that writes the code and helps to create the product. The problem we had was that the business we were in had very inefficient systems and we couldn't' find a system anywhere that solved any of our problems in an efficient way, so we hired Appomate to help us create that system.

What were your goals for this project?

To create a beautiful, simple, easy to use App & Web system that serves customers. We wanted it to be intuitive, and enjoyable to use, as lots of Apps/Admin web systems were very plain & bare, and being in our industry, aesthetics, and attention to detail are very much appreciated, so we wanted to deliver a product that had the experience be a central part of the product, rather than just the specific technical issues it solved.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We had spoken to a few vendors regarding this but we chose Appomate because they seemed to be much more invested in the whole experience of creating an App, and the business as a whole, rather than just specifically doing app development and nothing else. I felt that the holistic approach that Appomate took to creating an App really suited what I was after. I wanted someone who would be able to support me through the process as I had never done anything like this before, and the Appomate team was very helpful in so many ways, that supported me in being able to turn this into a great business.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

They helped design, develop & put together our App & Web System, which first involved coming up with the list of items to be included. Then they developed a 'see before you build' set of wireframes of what the product would look like, with some basic UI design.

From there we build a 'front end only' prototype so we could navigate around to see how it would function. Once we finalized the details of what was important after that stage we then moved to the development of the functioning App & Web System. That was when the back end began to be integrated & a lot more complexity in the features was developed.

What was the team composition?

The project team had different numbers of people at different times depending on our budget and requirements at the time. There were lots of different stages but we always had a project manager, and then a tech team comprised of who was needed at the time. We used an agile approach which allowed us to release a few features at a time and continue to evolve them as we went so that they could best suit the needs of our target market.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Our solution has been a much bigger project than was anticipated, as the needs kept evolving over time, however it has become a much more extensive & effective platform than we initially imagined. The simplicity with which it can be used, and the effectiveness of the way information is shared through the platform means that it will reduce Admin work in a medium-size club by at least 3-4 hours per week on average. Already it is allowing us to remove a huge number of admin errors that were occurring without this platform.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

To communicate we used Skype, What's App & Jira. The project management kept improving consistently over time, with the team working to improve their communication & effectiveness on an ongoing basis. Because this was my first project of this kind I learned a lot working with my team about how to improve in the Project Management side of things and manage timelines and expectations etc.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their willingness to continue to listen, evolve, work with us, and improve, and also to communicate to continue to fix any problems that come up. Its been a big learning experience for me, and they've been great in assisting me to become better at guiding them also. They've been extremely helpful in ideas about how to make the App & Web System as effective and intuitive as possible because of their experience with other apps, so I've really enjoyed getting to know more about the whole process. They also are really enthusiastic about our App. They are genuinely helpful in so many areas besides just the actual development.

Are there any areas for improvement?

The only thing I could think of is that initially, I had very little idea about the processes and the whole concept of building an App so I have learned a lot along the way. The main thing would just be when working with people newer to apps, just to write down a lot more of the stories in detail, and make sure the features are clearly understood.

We're in a great swing of things now, but in the beginning, it took a little while for our 'everyday' language and the 'tech' type language to be understood by each other. So its not really a criticism, more just something that I learned along the way, that in the beginning to take a bit more time to discuss the concepts and make sure to understand the concepts in even more detail than you might initially think is required.

We needed to build a global application for English-speaking countries.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The core function of our app is to cultivate a mindset of gratitude. It prompts the user to send daily acknowledgments to those in their team that has inspired them. The app collates those in a group live feed so that the team can see the collective responses of the group and start describing the character and culture of that group. It then links to rich reporting about culture and to stimulate reporting around team culture.

We wanted a native build across all platforms. It was a complete build from the ground up and with sophisticated, multi-level functions. We provided Appomate with concepts that we had drawn up, and they took those concepts through discussions and workshops. They used a fantastic process that allowed us to see what they would build before they actually made it. We created all the wireframes together. After designing most of the screens, we built an MVP. We are now developing additional features.

What is the team composition?

We have a technical and strategic support person as well as a backend team of seven developers that build and maintain the application.

How did you come to work with Appomate?

We went to the market for several different suppliers. An acquaintance of mine had an application built by Appomate which they delivered very cost-effectively and in a short time cycle. We explored the relationship and ultimately chose Appomate because of our connection, a sense of quality service, and their understanding the customer need. The team seemed very dedicated to serving the customer. We also felt aligned in our purpose for what we wanted to do with the app and what we wanted to be as a business.

How much have you invested in them?

We’ve spent around $350,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in March 2017, and the project is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app has launched, but we are continually turning out new features. It is a large application, but it has low-volume functions and high-impact interactions through a social purpose network. We’ve received positive feedback from customers, but the reliability could still be improved.

We check the metrics of our sprints. We’re looking at improving each sprint’s duration, the volume of work, and the number of bug-free deliverables at every cycle.

How did Appomate perform from a project management standpoint?

Appomate checks in with us regularly. If there are any concerns, they respond quickly, take action to move forward, and fix the issue. We use Jira and the Microsoft Office Suite of tools to manage the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team understands the cycle of customer service. The integrity and purpose of Appomate are second to none.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We’d like to see more performance reporting on sprint cycles from Appomate’s team instead of from us. We also appreciate a more proactive approach in continuous improvement education for their team; we hope they would constantly improve their skills through structured learning as opposed to self-development.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be very clear on the deliverables. Make sure they demonstrate how they can report on the app development speed and quality.
