Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.

We contracted with App Maisters to build a custom mobile app to support our green commuting program. The goal was for the app to track individual green commuting trips (walk, run, bike, bus, carpool, etc) that replace single occupancy vehcile trips. The app was to track trip type, mileage, money saved in gas, carbon emissions reduced for individual participants and display all data in a leaderboard (individual leaderboard as well as team leaderboards). 
The app was to also pull in all previous data logged by participants so they could maintain their historic program data. We also asked App Maisters to build out an admin dashboard for the town who implements the program.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The mobile app was completed and we continued on with the app development for a 2nd phase with them when the program was expanded and rebranded. We have a successful mobile app that is currently being used effectively. App Maisters also created an online Admin Dashboard for program administrators.

Overall their project management was good. There were several scheduled meetings and timelines outlined. They use the Teamwork platform to communicate, which was overall effective when paired with virtual meetings. Phase one of the project included several virtual meetings and check ins. 
We were given a new project manager for Phase two of the app developement and all communication was primarily all done through Teamwork which was not as effective as pairing it with meetings. 
Unfortunately, neither the initial app or the 2nd phase of the app development were finalized on the timeline we had laid out with required deadlines and what they agreed to in their proposal submission.  They did work as quickly as they could to deliver the final product for both phase 1 and phase 2.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They were able to develop an effective mobile app with many functions for a complicated program. They were able to translate what we were looking for into an effective and functional mobile app that meets our needs. They were able to respond to needs and changes that arose throughout the process. 

Are there any areas for improvement or something App Maisters Inc. could have done differently?

As this was my first time working with an app developer and first time creating a custom app, it would have been helpful to have a full run down of the process so I better understood it all. For instance, the scope of work document was so large with many details and there were a few important details I had forgotten to include. I did not realize that once the scope is signed off on, that is the scope and if you forgot to include something that becomes extra scope and additional dollars. Luckily they were relatively understanding and we were able to work through some of those issues.

Their team created both the iOS and Android mobile applications as well as our website (www.myworkwonders.com). Key deliverables included user-friendly app design, real-time service tracking, in-app messaging, account creation assistance, provider rating/review features, and a subscription-based model with a 14-day free trial. They also offered business guidance by helping us set up the necessary accounts and tools to support operations.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The biggest outcome was moving from just an idea to a fully developed, functional mobile app and website ready for the market. App Maisters delivered both iOS and Android versions along with the website on schedule, and all core features — such as real-time tracking, in-app messaging, and provider ratings — work smoothly. While we are still in the process of promoting downloads and building our user base, the quality and reliability of the product give us a strong foundation to grow.

App Maisters managed the project professionally, providing regular updates and maintaining open communication throughout the process. While there were some minor timing issues, they were responsive to our needs and always willing to adjust when challenges came up. They made sure to explain technical details in a way that was easy to understand and took extra steps to guide us through business-related tasks beyond development. Overall, their project management gave us confidence that our app and website would be completed to a high standard.

What stood out was that App Maisters went beyond development — they not only built our app and website but also guided me through the business setup and supported me like a true partner.

One area for improvement would be project timing, as there were some delays in the development process. In addition, there were a few unexpected extra charges that came up along the way. While these didn’t overshadow the overall quality of the work, clearer communication about timelines and costs upfront would have made the process smoother.

We measure success by the number of crashes our application has, which has been next to none. App Maisters Inc. has done a fantastic job, and they've been right on top of anything that has come up. Our application remains successful, and we owe a lot of that to the fantastic maintenance they're doing in the background.

We can focus on dealing with our product rather than worrying about the technical aspects. The quality of their work meets our expectations.

We mainly interact with App Maisters Inc. through Teamwork, which we use as a messaging service and to share files. It's been a great way to maintain communication. We also use emails and phone calls, mainly with our principal contact points. The Teamwork application allows anyone within our organization associated with the project to see, chime in on, and add whatever needs to be done.

Moreover, communication has been excellent, and the monthly breakdowns of everything being done and where the resources are being put towards are very informative. This has made them a very trusted partner in keeping our product active. Overall, they've been very responsive, and we've had a very positive relationship with them.

Our account management specialist is fantastic, on top of things, regularly checks in, and has excellent communication.

App Maisters Inc. has met all our expectations and has been surprisingly prompt in communication. They've been able to help us even in areas outside their scope of work.

Anytime we've had questions about things outside their scope of work, they've even been able to help in that area. So, I have nothing bad to say about my interactions with App Maisters Inc.

Make sure you've got lots of questions. They'll be more than willing to supply the answers and give you very detailed responses in writing and verbally.

The app is functioning very well, we have tested it thoroughly and shared it with over 1000 users so far. The feedback we have received from them is overwhelmingly good. We’re happy with the work the vendor has done so far and we expect them to work in the same fashion.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

App Maisters Inc. has done a wonderful job with the first development phase. Moreover, their communication is really strong through various means. We haven't gotten to a place where we have metrics yet.

How did App Maisters Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

They communicate effectively and constantly, asking questions often. We use Zoom calls, email, and Microsoft Teams to keep in touch. Additionally, we use another tool with a chat function, which sends me an email every time someone comments. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciate App Maisters Inc.'s communication skills. They make sure everyone is on the same page before moving forward, which is important.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The chat tool is my least favorite method of communication. The chat title is onboarding, and it notifies everyone every time someone posts, so it keeps sending me emails with the same title, even though we're months past onboarding. That may be a personal issue, though.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice is to bring in your own communication platform.
