I’m the software development group leader at Windward. I’m in charge of the development of all products that are customer-facing. We build software that utilizes AI and machine learning in the maritime domain to calculate risk and build decision support systems.

What challenge were you trying to address with ALLSTARSIT?

Approximately two years ago, we decided to expand our R&D department, and I wanted to recruit a team of professionals from Ukraine.

What was the scope of their involvement?

ALLSTARSIT provides two different types of services that are bound together. The first one is the recruitment and onboarding process, and after we recruited the team, ALLSTARSIT helped us employ them and manage the ongoing management.

When we started to recruit, we had an iterative work where I defined the role description and provided feedback, and ALLSTARSIT helped me schedule interviews and had iterations to find the right candidates. 

Overall, ALLSTARSIT has helped me recruit seven engineers that work remotely. One of the requirements I’ve asked ALLSTARSIT for the engineers is that they need to be familiar with our tech stack and have knowledge of JavaScript language. Another important thing I required from my engineers was good communication skills. I’ve paid a lot of attention to their verbal communication over Zoom since this project started during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ALLSTARSIT has helped us build a fully remote team, and this work model has been a very good approach because when the Russian Invasion of Ukraine started, we had to adjust and move around the globe. ALLSTARSIT has been able to continue working with us, which is also really important to me.

At the beginning of our engagement, I gave more thorough feedback about ALLSTARSIT candidates’ selection, especially when a candidate didn’t meet my requirements. Eventually, our work process became much more fluent and effective. 

ALLSTARSIT has scheduled interviews according to my calendar, and most candidates fit the role description. ALLSTARSIT’s iterative work has paid off.

We have heard about them in the industry and we have had a great introductory call. They made us believe in them by showing us real results they have achieved with other companies, so after our call we weren’t looking anymore and hired them right away.

We needed to hire developers in a very short period of time and what we liked a lot was the ALLSTARSIT ability to adapt to the situation. We needed developers of different stacks and while one department was still in the interviewing process, another one was already hiring and onboarding.

With this approach we were able to hire an entire new team of 14 people within approximately three weeks. I say approximately because some of the developers started working after a week from our introductory call with the company, which was really amazing.

Through all this craziness and rush, ALLSTARSIT delivered outstanding results in all areas; all developers are extremely qualified, they took care of all the process such as pre-screening, contract signing, onboarding etc. for us, they were constantly updating us on all processes and they were just truly VERY professional.

So we had an introductory call with a CEO, two HR managers and Chief Customer officer Mila, after that we were assigned 4 account managers, according to 4 different stacks we were looking for. Since then we have been in contact with just them and they were able to solve all the issues and answer all the questions during the sourcing, interviewing and onboarding process. We are still in touch with them, as they constantly make sure their teammates and us are happy and content.

Honestly, it felt like we clicked from the beginning. They made sure to take into account all our needs and wishes, and we felt heard. I guess I have already mentioned this a lot of times. But to hire the full team in such a short period is truly an indicator of their great professionalism.
