In the past, I was a co-founder of Siri and sold the company to Apple. I started three other companies including Viv Labs, which was sold to Samsung; Change.org, which is the world’s largest petition platform for good; and Sentient Technologies, an AI company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Ahex Technologies Pvt. Ltd.?

I needed someone with frontend and backend web expertise, as well as some graphic design.

What was the scope of their involvement?

I’ve done a few different projects with Ahex. I required help outside of my normal business work and mainly needed frontend web skills with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. For backend skills, I needed Python and MongoDB. I’ve also done a smaller project with them that involved building an Apple Watch application using Objective-C.

What is the team composition?

Their co-founder was my main point of contact. There was a second engineer involved as needed.

How did you come to work with Ahex Technologies Pvt. Ltd.?

They were recommended by a friend that I used to work with at Siri. He said that whenever he wanted to get a perfect translation from a design to HTML and CSS, he would use Ahex Technologies and that they could do it quickly and cheaply.

I’ve spent over $15,000 with them so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2016 and the collaboration is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’ve been working on several different projects that are potential startup companies, and though none of them are released yet, I’m very satisfied with our collaboration. Their communication skills have been excellent and the quality of the software has been strong.

How did Ahex Technologies Pvt. Ltd. perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve done a good job. I’ve asked them for proposals and budget estimates and they’ve met them pretty accurately. Overall, I’ve gotten excellent value in terms of quality for cost. We use Skype almost exclusively to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve gotten really high-quality web and software engineering capabilities and I’m extremely happy with the price that I’m paying.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They’re based in India, so there’s a time difference. There are only certain periods of the day when I can communicate with them, but it hasn’t been an issue.

If you have a web or mobile project and particularly need frontend skills, I strongly recommend them.

We're a cybersecurity firm, headquartered in Mumbai and with a second office in San Francisco. We provide enterprise security products for mitigating attacks. I'm the CTO.

We approached them regarding web development for our internal tools.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They've provided web and app developing, along with cloud solutions, including internal tools and products offered by our company. They provided HTML, CSS, Python development. They have also helped us with work concerning Amazon Web Services (AWS), like setting up cloud servers.

Our first project was a web application, for which they provided development and UI/UX design from scratch. The application was used by managers for curated news, as well as for determining whether their emails had been compromised. The application also scanned the dark web to collect information.

They're currently working on web and mobile applications. We've signed a contract through which we're making updates every month, fixing bugs, and adding new features. In terms of cloud services, they’ve worked on EC2 database migrations and Lambda application development.

They have a very good team. They assigned different teams for UI/UX, coding, and troubleshooting. Ajeet (Co-Founder, Ahex Technologies) was in touch with me and coordinated the team members.

I met Ajeet at a conference, where we started chatting. I was looking for an organization that could help us with technology as we didn’t have an in-house team. We wanted to focus on cybersecurity, which was our main skill set. I gave their team a small project and was impressed by their work. They produced high-quality work, so I started sharing more projects with them.

We started working with them in 2016 and have an ongoing collaboration. We've now worked on 5–6 internal projects with them.

They always deliver quality projects and products. Ajeet remains engaged with the team and is focused on making the customer happy.

I needed to engage the team a lot in the beginning, but after a few weeks, they learned how things needed to be done. I only needed to engage them once or twice per week from that point. They can work through and make modifications by themselves, which I like—I can talk to them about UI/UX, app design, and web applications.

How did Ahex Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

They stand out in terms of the update process with the client. They give me updates on a weekly basis, during a call including the engineers. They outline our progress up to that point, explain the reason for any delays we might have had, and give estimates for our recovery time. They provide regular updates through a project management tool. We also use Skype for video calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve been impressed with the work process of the team. They typically deliver projects before the deadlines and they do good-quality work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Not right now. They're doing brilliantly at the moment.

They need to focus more on branding and online. They need to engage in more activities, such as this review, in order to get genuine feedback.

Work was about data extraction from large corpus of court documents in India using large language models, summarizing and then adding that into a RDMS (postgres). It was also on writing various extraction mechanisms to ensure data extracted is valid and no hallucination is happening in extracted/summarized data. Post that it was about creation of a vector similarity search to find similar court cases.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

It was a complicated project that did not really have any parallels in their line of work. However, I started getting confidence when I spoke to their lead, given his knowledge, and then later when I gave a small project where they could prove themselves on it. Post that, success was measured based on the key deliverables agreed on weekly calls within the stipulated time (barring unexpected challenges, which I was okay as long as they kept me in the loop).

Initially started with small project to get confidence in their work. The initial brief was shared, and then that was followed up with more work. The medium of communication was weekly calls, where the status of the previous week and work for the next week were discussed. There were also some shared Excel sheets that were created where progress was added by them daily. We were also in touch over WhatsApp, there was a group created with developers and the lead for any on-the-fly communication, and if needed, we got on a quick conference call on WhatsApp itself a few times.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their commitment to work, they did not take any work lightly. If I gave some expectations which were beyond their scope, they would say so but at same time be willing to push their team to try. In some cases I was able to get work from them that they initially believed wasn't possible, in other cases they tried but didn't succeed (which was okay).

I also liked that they were professional, maintained transparency on their work, and kept me in the loop on important decisions. It was a good cultural fit as well.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Ahex Technologies could have done differently?

Yes, in some cases I had to directly interact with some junior developers but found they do not have good communication skills and so I had to ask them to involve the lead or better structure their thoughts via chatgpt before they share with me.

We decided to go with Ahex because their references were very good and they were by far the most responsive and professional company out of all being considered.
