Ahex took the existant app with which we were not happy and re-did everything from scratch almost in order to deliver a fully functional app as per our expectations and requirements. This was done in 3 stages keeping the app operational while the development was in progress and only upon completion added a "new" version to the app/play stores.

We had meetings every stage and upon completion of the scope of work that was done. On completion of a milestone, we would meet and talk about the next milestone to be worked on until completion of the project.

The schedule was not rigid on both sides. Most of the work was done within the time frame allocated for the milestone, but there were sometimes delays because of missing data that either we or Ahex had to provide. 

Ahex Technologies was attentive to our needs and had their team available on short notice, sometimes even immediately, in spite of the time difference, different holidays, and cultural restrictions.

I would have liked our video conferences to have been recorded and that way I could go back to them if I had any doubt but other than that I am very satisfied and would recommend them highly.

We were trying to build an offshore team. Our main challenge was that we weren't able to find good React developers, so we approached Ahex Technologies so that they could provide us with a few resources.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Ahex Technologies provides us with staff augmentation services. Their developers support our mobile and web development efforts. We have a presence in the UK and multiple other countries. For our most significant project, we've been helping our South Africa team because they've had issues with the mobile bandwidth. Ahex Technologies has helped us build an API-based service so that less bandwidth is consumed when users in South Africa use our solutions.

To achieve this, we've put together a mobile app that doesn't require loading everything on the user's phone. Instead, all the information is already there, and the intercommunication happens using APIs. Our backend development team has built the APIs, so Ahex Technologies' work has included understanding our existing systems, creating the frontend designs, and developing the functionality needed based on those APIs.

This app is for both iOS and Android devices. As mentioned above, the key technologies for this project are React and React Native. Besides this project, Ahex Technologies has also helped me develop a demo app. That project happened in 2023.

Ahex Technologies has successfully understood our existing systems and come up with the designs and functionality needed for this app. Although we've experienced some bugs, those have been minor and resolved on time.

How did Ahex Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

The project management is handled by us. Initially, Saurabh was in charge of project management, but we needed to manage the project ourselves based on our needs, so we changed our way of working. We've followed the Agile methodology to ensure the code quality is delivered as required and every iteration is deployed successfully. We communicate via Microsoft Teams.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Ahex Technologies is great about achieving the deliverables focusing on the code quality. Everything they've done has been of high quality.

In the IT industry, everything has room for improvement. Therefore, the most important satisfaction measure is knowing whether we're happy with how the project is going today and if they've satisfied our requirements. I can't pinpoint an area of improvement for Ahex Technologies because they've met our internal goals that ensure the product is being delivered as needed.

Be ready for the project and educate them about the solution you need. We spent over a month to start the project initially because we weren't ready for the project.

The first version of our platform was built and we had a small engineering team. We were about to go live and we needed a development partner to support & maintain the platform once live, and continue platform development as we onboarded clients and added new features. We also needed access to various skills (security, marketing) as guidance to our engineers as they covered all aspects of the product build.

We interviewed 6 vendors and used 4 factors when assessing them.

1. Communication skills - I'm an English speaker and needed a partner that spoke excellent English and was a very proactive and clear communicator. And also honest : ) with good and bad news
2. Technical skills - I needed a partner that worked on the same tech stack as our platform & completed similar projects in the past (Marketplace, video based etc)
3. Quality - I needed a client that had a high quality output as standard (User experience, design, code quality etc)

Because this is an ongoing engagement we didn't have a specific brief or scoping document. But Dosen.io is a video based, Enterprise platform. It provides businesses and groups with everything they need to operate successful mentoring, consulting or coaching programs. Some of the features include Messaging, Video calling, Scheduling, Payments, rich insights dashboard etc. We offer businesses their own Marketplace and Libraries of content.

A technical project manager was our first and most critical hire. She has worked with us from the beginning and has performed the role of team lead / project manager / technical R&D. Separately we have drafted in others as required eg for 4 months we worked with a security expert part time who helped us to build the security into our system that allowed us to pass various client due diligence tests.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Since starting working with Ahex we have onboarded our first clients, moved clients from pilots to full time contracts and developed our platform considerably. We also have a much cleaner and clearer development pipeline with estimates, delivery expectation dates, blockers etc which has helped immensely

We use a combination of GSuite (to share all information required on epics - pptx, designs, xls etc), Skype for constant daily communication and GMeet for frequent (at least once a week) calls. They're communication style is very responsive, very helpful (trying to solve the issue before figuring out the cost / how long it will take etc) and decisive (with bad news or with estimates or decisions) which is incredibly helpful to ensure we keep moving forward

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The amount that they care. They genuinely want success for Dosen while also being practical and human (not losing sight of their people's needs or ours).

I’m the technical director at Mastersoft, an ERP solution provider that caters to over 2,500 institutions in India.

What challenge were you trying to address with Ahex Technologies?

We were facing some challenges with third-party integration. We’re also trying to upgrade our company by setting up DevOps in our company for automatic deployment.

We have an internal development team, but we needed a development partner when it comes to new technologies and upgrading.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Their team has been instrumental in helping us drive through the DevOps process. Another project with them is for flow testing, in which we had 2-3 rounds. They let us know what pages needed improvement and where the load is maximum.

Another project is the web product development, where we’ve used them for part of it. They help with the complete Angular framework using Angular 10. They design the architecture and develop the complete frontend.

We already have a product in place where we’re using HTML, CSS embassy framework. We wanted to move to Angular, and that’s where Ahex Technologies came into the picture to move the product to Angular 10. The UI revamp will also be taken care of by them.

I’m in contact with the technical architect, who I believe is the CTO. I’ve also worked with the business head. I’ve met everyone, including the senior Angular developers, a mobile head, and a UX/UI head.

Our ongoing engagement started in January 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

In the beginning, we didn’t have DevOps in place at all. We had tech leads in-house who had to spend 4-6 hours every time a deployment had to take place. This was every 15 days with six people working on it. Things in deployment would go wrong since it was a manual process.

With DevOps, we’ve been able to manage the time of these resources. It’s cut down to one resource from the six. We don’t have to wait for the complete cycle to be done for the deployment and wait for 15 days. We can deploy it whenever we want.

With the load testing, the user performance and the scalability of the action were the most important metrics. They were able to pinpoint the pages that we had to improve. Once we improved those from the development end, we could go on for a round of load testing.

The performance would be better than the previous load testing. Secondly, we could measure the scalability with the increased performance load that was there. Earlier, we weren’t able to get the exact number of users that would be there for the particular server configuration.

With the load testing that was done, we were able to narrow it down to how many users a particular application could handle. We could go on with the integration, which helped us quickly onboard the students – we’re in the education sector. The students and all the users from our platform to the integrated platform had to be done manually.

I had a team of 3-4 people who were working on it. That was automated, which was an advantage for us.

Their project management style is good. They really get involved in what needs to be done. They’re also quick to understand things. We don’t have to explain it in detail – we have continual projects with them. We give them the scope, and they give us the timelines and who will be working on the project.

Then, they share the complete roadmap of the activities that will be taking place. We mainly communicate through email, and we also have tracking sheets in place. There’s clear communication. Even if their hours are going to increase, they pre-inform us and keep us updated.

Their team knows what they’re doing. They’re a knowledgeable team that updates us regularly.

The technologies used are AngularJS, .NET MVC, Xamarin, and Bootstrap. They also developed an informational WordPress website for us. Users can search by area code, value, and house composition.

Later, we defined the various target users and interactions with the help of Ahex’s team, and they used this to build the apps’ UI/UX.

We had some issues during the first three months of our engagement because we were still figuring out the requirements. Once we all were on the same page and got a good vision of the app, everything went smoothly, and the development that Ahex did was excellent.

We worked with Ahex during the pandemic, so we had some disruptions initially because we didn’t have the same infrastructure at home as we did when working from an office. Aside from that, their team was prompt in meeting deadlines, and they constantly updated me about the project.

I was impressed by their prompt communication. We were in different locations, so we interacted remotely. Regularly knowing what was going on was my top priority, and Ahex did that in a very good way.
