From Testing Clutch to Scaling What Works

Founded by Tim Jones and Stephen Krain, TKX Media has grown from a word-of-mouth business into a Utah-based full-service digital marketing agency offering web development, paid advertising, social media, SEO, franchise marketing, and AI optimization for B2B and B2C clients. As the agency grew, Jones looked for ways to generate a more consistent flow of qualified leads and determine which marketing channels were worth scaling.

TKX Media joined Clutch in early 2026, initially testing featured listings before moving into the Clutch Pay Per Lead (PPL) program. Less than six months later, Clutch has become one of the agency’s strongest lead sources, generating 10–20 leads per month. Jones estimates that TKX Media has seen a 6x to 8x return on its Clutch investment, depending on the month.

“We have a marketing budget. We’ve been splitting it across multiple channels and we just put the budget where it works,” Jones said. “And Clutch has been working.”

As a result, TKX Media has continued to increase its investment in the channel, putting more budget behind the marketing efforts that demonstrate the strongest results.

Connecting With Buyers Who Are Ready for More

For TKX Media, the value of Clutch is not simply the number of inquiries coming through the platform. The agency has found that many of those prospects are looking for experienced partners and can develop into longer-term relationships.

Jones estimates that about half of the Clutch leads TKX Media receives are ready to start immediately. The other half are further out, giving the agency an opportunity to build relationships and continue the conversation as their needs develop. That balance helps fill the pipeline at different stages.

Jones also sees a difference between Clutch prospects and leads from other channels. Prospects from other freelancing platforms, for example, can be ready to hire quickly, but he said they tend to be more price-sensitive. Clutch prospects are often looking for a high-quality service provider and are less focused on simply finding the lowest price.

“I feel like the people who are looking and trust in Clutch are like, ‘Hey, we want the pros. We don’t want to mess around. I want someone great,’” Jones said.

The initial project can also become the beginning of a much broader client relationship. Jones estimates that roughly 75% of the projects TKX Media has secured through Clutch PPL have grown into longer-term relationships, while about 25% have been one-off projects.

One example is a retail energy company in Texas that initially reached out to TKX Media for web development. The relationship eventually expanded into thought leadership and branding work. For Jones, the experience demonstrates how a prospect can find TKX Media for one service and ultimately discover the broader capabilities the agency offers.

Extending Visibility Into AI-Powered Search

Lead generation was not the only change Jones noticed after TKX Media established a stronger presence on Clutch.

The agency was already receiving some mentions in AI-powered search, but Jones said he began to notice more visibility after joining Clutch. While he described the change as qualitative, he believes being listed on Clutch has helped TKX Media appear more frequently in AI-driven recommendations.

“We were getting AI mentions, but when we started with Clutch, it qualitatively felt to me that being listed with Clutch has helped our own AI ranking,” Jones said.

For an agency that provides AI optimization services, visibility in emerging AI-powered discovery channels is particularly relevant. As potential clients use tools such as ChatGPT to research service providers, appearing in those recommendations gives TKX Media another way to be discovered.

Building With the Right Partners

TKX Media recently surpassed $2 million in revenue and is now looking to double that over the next couple of years. The agency plans to continue scaling, hire strategically, and bring on the right clients as it grows. This makes finding reliable marketing channels increasingly important.

Rather than committing to Clutch based on assumptions about what might work, TKX Media tested the platform, evaluated the results, and increased its investment as the channel proved effective. The result has been a consistent source of 10 to 20 monthly leads, strong returns on its investment, and an added layer of visibility in AI-powered search.

For other service providers considering Clutch, Jones recommends giving the platform a meaningful opportunity to prove itself.

“Give it a shot for sure,” he said. “Every marketing budget is different, but give it an honest shot. It’s been an A+ experience so far for us.”
