Marketing is important for any competitive industry, and crypto is no exception. Read about how 7 of the most popular crypto companies used their marketing campaigns to grow visibility and connect with their target audiences.

In 2022, the global cryptocurrency market size was valued at $4.67 billion and is only expected to increase over the next seven years.

And it’s not just individuals who are investing in crypto — businesses around the world are using bitcoin and other digital assets to gain greater control over their financial transactions, enhance operational efficiency, improve customer engagement, tokenize their assets, and more.

Yet, as businesses adopt cryptocurrency as a form of payment, the need for effective marketing strategies to promote these currencies is also rising.

Just like any project, companies launching a crypto project need to be able to market it effectively to keep up with the competition.

Cryptocurrency Marketing refers to any promotional efforts aimed at increasing awareness and adoption of cryptocurrency. The goal of crypto marketing is to educate potential users about the benefits of using cryptocurrency as a form of payment and to create a positive image for a particular crypto brand.

Cryptocurrency marketing campaigns can include:

  • Social Media Campaigns
  • Influencer Partnerships
  • Content Marketing
  • Paid Ads
  • Email Marketing
  • Press Releases
  • SEO
  • Crypto Airdrops
  • Initial Coin Offering (ICO)
  • Referral Programs

Here are how some of the world’s global crypto leaders created a marketing strategy to grow their space in the market.

7 Crypto Marketing Campaign Examples

  1. Coinbase
  2. Hybrix
  3. Stellar
  4. Ethereum
  5. Eightcap
  6. Ripple
  7. Brave New Coin

Coinbase: Content Marketing

Coinbase is a secure online platform for buying, selling, transferring, and storing cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.

It has quickly become the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the United States by trading volume, partially because of their effective content marketing strategy.

Content marketing is the creation and distribution of valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a target audience. It focuses on providing useful or entertaining content through channels such as social media, blogs, videos, and more.

To grow their brand name in the crypto space and connect with their audience more effectively, Coinbase launched a newsletter called “Coinbase Bytes.’

Coinbase Bytes Newsletter

Coinbase Bytes provides weekly crypto news with subscribers, which helps them engage with their users. They also use this platform to onboard new customers, inform them about new products, and invite them to webinars.

Hybrix: Email Marketing

Hybrix is an open-source blockchain platform that allows users to hold, swap, and receive tokens. Their marketing team largely relies on email marketing to build customer relationships.

Through email, they keep their users updated on developments, events, and other things related to their brand. By delivering personalized and relevant content, they’ve built trust, loyalty, and customer satisfaction.

By regularly sending emails to their target audience, they’ve been able to reinforce their brand identity. Consistent communication keeps your brand top-of-mind and helps customers recognize and remember your business.

Stellar: Crypto Airdrops

While many crypto companies rely more on traditional marketing and digital marketing tactics, some experiment with more out-of-the-box ideas like airdropping.

Crypto airdrops are when blockchain companies give out free tokens in order to promote their business. In this instance, they will directly deposit tokens into a user’s crypto wallet.

While this is unconventional, it is often effective at driving exposure, especially for startups looking to generate buzz and increase their brand name recognition. It stirs up excitement in the community and can help new crypto companies compete in a competitive market.

Stellar, an open-source and decentralized public blockchain, is most well-known for this crypto marketing strategy because they performed one of the largest airdrops ever. In 2018, Stellar partnered with Blockchain.com to airdrop $125 million of Stellar Lumens to Blockchain wallet users with the goal of getting users to try the new crypto and increase wallet usage.

Ethereum: Initial Coin Offering (ICO)

Initial coin offerings (ICOs) occur when a company sells new cryptocurrency to fundraise and promote their product. They announce the date, rules, and buying process ahead of time to generate buzz in the community and inform potential investors.

Before the ICO launches, however, the crypto company still needs to promote it. Often, they will release whitepapers outlining the project, post about it on their website, create a social media campaign, and advertise online.

Shortly before Ethereum launched in 2015, they held an ICO to raise money for their project. At the time, they were able to raise $18.4 million to get their product off the ground. Their work paid off, too. They quickly became the second-largest cryptocurrency.

However, it’s important to note that ICOs are risky for consumers. They’re not well regulated, and tokens can lose value or fail altogether.

Eightcap: Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a type of influencer marketing where an individual or company promotes a company’s products. They create unique referral links or codes for affiliates to share with their audience. When someone clicks on the affiliate's link and makes a purchase or takes a desired action, such as signing up for a newsletter, the affiliate earns a commission.

It is particularly effective for crypto marketing because it helps build trust. Crypto affiliates often establish themselves as trusted sources of information and recommendations within the community. Their endorsements can carry significant weight, as they have built a reputation for providing valuable insights and guidance. This trust can lead to higher conversion rates.

Eightcap offers a range of trading instruments, including forex, commodities, indices, and cryptocurrencies. They focus on providing competitive spreads, low fees, and fast execution for traders. They offer various account types and trading tools to meet the needs of different traders, from beginners to experienced professionals.

They are well-regarded for their crypto affiliate program that covers 100 crypto derivatives in 120 companies. Why is it so effective? They provide up to 50% commissions for their partners. By incentivizing people to promote their business, they’ve expanded their brand awareness and increased adoption rates.

Ripple: Ad Campaign

Ripple’s native cryptocurrency token is called XRP, and is used for transferring funds across borders at a low cost, trustlessly, and instantly. It serves as a bridge currency in Ripple's network and has gained attention in the crypto market.

In 2020, they launched an ad campaign titled ‘Got It,’ with the goal of informing users what they do.

The storytelling aspect of the video made it more human and relatable. Ripple users were visibly excited about their purchase. The ad shows people trading and exchanging money, exclaiming ‘Got it!’ when the transaction goes through.

Brave New Coin: Podcasting

Brave New Coin (BNC) is an Australian-based blockchain company that provides accurate and up-to-date information for investors and businesses in the crypto space.

To keep their brand name front-and-center and answer questions their audience has, they launched a podcast called the Crypto Conversation. Hosted by Andy Pickering, the podcast covers everything from crypto, blockchain, and bitcoin to the growing interest in NFTs.

Podcasts are growing in popularity, especially among young people, making them a great channel for connecting with new audiences.

Additionally, hosting industry-related podcasts allows businesses to showcase their knowledge, experience, and insights. This positioning can help establish the crypto business as a thought leader and go-to resource within the industry.

Marketing Your Growing Crypto Business

As the crypto market continues to grow, businesses are recognizing the importance of effective marketing strategies to stand out from the competition.

Their marketing efforts involve strategic efforts and techniques to boost brand recognition, attract new users and investors, build communities, and drive sales within the crypto industry.

There are countless ways to market your crypto business: producing content, creating a podcast, paid ads, and more can help crypto businesses establish themselves as trusted and influential players in the crypto space, driving growth and success.
