We selected Yes It Labs from Guru.com after interviewing them and evaluating their proposal. We also decided to hire them through that website as it acted as an intermediary incase of any kind of a problem.

We had multiple discovery meeting to develop an scope of work. Once the scope of work and all the features we detailed out in writing we began the design process to design all the elements of the mobile application. Then we moved into the development that was broken up into different milestones based on the features and the operating system such as iOS or Android. They were programming in Kotlin for Android and Swipe for iOS. The admin panel was developed on PHP and mySQL.

A project manager was assigned. Then we were reassigned a different project manager. We only worked with two people from Yes It Labs. One was Paul who was the CEO of the company and the other was Sherri, and he was a lead project manager.

We did receive finalized app design screens. We also received incomplete betas for iOS and Android. The admin panel was a demo site template to view what the finalized admin panel would look like. We never received a finalized app, nor was it published to either app store.

The project was estimated to be complete with 6-9 months with a weekly meeting with our project manager. We would use zoom for video meetings. About 6 months into the project we were handed over to Sherri and sometimes it would be a weekly zoom meeting and more times every two weeks. We would share word documents back and forth with our edits for the beta releases. We used Guru.com to outline Milestones and payment.

We thought it was unique that the company was both based in Laguna Beach and India. We thought it was going to be the best of both worlds having someone near us while also having a large development team working on our project. Later we found out the Laguna Beach address was just for marketing and to get clients to trust them.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Yes they could of been more honest and open about communication. The timeline of the project was extremely miscommunicated. It went from 6-9 months to over 12 months and an incomplete project that resulted in an arbitration and refund of funds back to us sine the project was not finished. They also oversold themselves and agreed to work that was out of scope or their abilities. They could of also been more professional and handled situations better. Paul the CEO of the company yelled at us in a Zoom meeting.
