We’re an IT company focused on mainframe support. We’ve recently started working on a tool that will identify everything running on a mainframe. In the future, we plan to extend to other programs, not just mainframe-based ones.

What challenge were you trying to address with Wow-How Studio?

We had a high-level description of our product, and we hired Wow-How to help us with a one-minute infographic video about it.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We gave Wow-How Studio a brief description of what we expected. They prepared storyboard sequencing and helped us with the audio track and voiceover. They also helped fine-tune the text content for regionalization. They selected a relevant video style for the business case.

During one month, we were able to establish scope, agree to finances, and work within the schedule they provided. The actual work on the 90-second infographics video took around two months.

What is the team composition?

I only worked with the account manager and the delivery manager. I would guess there was a team of 5–6 people from Wow-How, but I’m not sure what happened behind the scenes.

How did you come to work with Wow-How Studio?

I’d seen one of their promotional videos for an event we were planning to go to. I searched online for who made the video, and I looked at a couple of Wow-How Studio’s past works on YouTube or on their website. We liked those, so we decided to approach them.

How much have you invested with them?

The whole project was below $5,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Wow-How in June 2019, and we wrapped up in September 2019. The project length was three months.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They always made sure that we were happy as a customer. It was a very positive experience. I’d give them an A+ on quality. 

It was a pretty straightforward delivery, and it’s hard to judge someone who worked for 2–2.5 months with us. They delivered what we expected.

How did Wow-How Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

Their team is proactive. For instance, they actively proposed that we prepare three scenarios. We weren’t sure which way to go, so they let us choose from those three and expand later on. We never had any issues with change requests. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

We haven’t worked with an agency like Wow-How before, so I don’t know if this is standard, but they were spot-on with the audio track that we wanted to have in the background and the voiceover. It was a pleasant surprise to not have any hurdles.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could improve in terms of graphics a bit, specifically graphical expressions. That was a minor issue and didn’t damage the overall picture. 

For the budget we had, I can’t find any other improvement points. We didn’t hire them to create everything end to end. I believe Wow-How is capable of doing much more complex work with bigger budgets than ours, and I wouldn’t hesitate to hire them again in the future, including for more complex deliveries.

Clients should be ready to describe what they want. It will make the team’s easier

Wow-How Studio created 3D modelling videos of our products. Our CEO and I gave them detailed instructions, and then our teams worked closely together throughout the project.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Wow-How Studio surpassed our goals and expectations. They came up with their own ideas in terms of design, graphics, videos, and footage. I definitely recommended working with them.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow was very effective. Wow-How Studio proactively contacted us whenever there were project milestones, and they always met deadlines.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Wow-How Studio's specialized departments were able to efficiently manage design and video projects.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No. Given the great results, the only thing I can say is that everything was perfect. Wow-How Studio was able to make all appropriate adjustments to meet our requirements.

What challenge were you trying to address with Wow-How Studio?

We hired Wow-How Studio to create an animation for us. We wanted to use it as part of an internal promotional video for our company, so our goal was to get something new and different from our previous animations.

What was the scope of their involvement?

For this project, we gave the Wow-How Studio our requirements and the script. From there, they drew up a few cartoons and gave us several options to approve. Once we selected the ones we liked, they put together a storyboard. Lastly, they created the animation for us to use in our promotional video.

I had one main point of contact from their team who served as a project manager. 

How did you come to work with Wow-How Studio?

We met their team through networking after one member of Wow-How Studio reached out to us. We spoke for quite a long time and felt they were good people to work with. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from January–March 2019; the project took about eight weeks to complete. We haven’t used them for any other projects since but we’re definitely open to it. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We don’t have any metrics to show since this project was just for internal use, but we’re very happy with the product they delivered. The animation is fun and different from what we had already, which is exactly what we wanted. We anticipate putting it on our website at some point, as well. 

How did Wow-How Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

Their approach to project management was great. We typically talked through email, but we’d also use Skype every once in a while. We’d speak every other day usually. They were good about hitting our deadlines. Even though the project ran a little longer than we’d originally planned, it was partially because of people on our end, too. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their fast response time was impressive. They produced exactly what we wanted and were professional and quick. I knew what to expect from them ahead of time, so there were no surprises or things that stood out. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything they could do better. We had a really good experience with them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I’d definitely recommend working with Wow-How Studio, especially if you’re looking for cartoon animation. Their work is great and they’re quick.

We did many different projects together, most of the projects we did were for explanation and educational purposes.

The process is very simple, whenever I have an appropriate project for Wow-How, I send a brief to a Head of Sales Department.

If the brief is sufficient, they provide me with an estimation of the time and budget needed for a project. If they need some additional information, they always ask for it, always try to give an approximate estimate at least, and, after getting more details, they provide me with the full estimation.

After everything is set, I have a kick-off with Delivery Manager who is responsible for the delivery process. We start working on the storyboard, illustrations or 3D models, animation.

What was the team composition?

We work together as a team. Before the start of the project, we usually have a call with a Delivery Manager who provides me with a result for each milestone of the project later.

After the result is provided, I share my feedback and thoughts on it, we have a call with Delivery Manager if needed or, if everything is clear, the Wow-How animation team proceeds with the amendments.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The final animations often exceed my expectations and the final products are well received my our clients.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

After the numerous projects done together, we came to a perfect workflow structure. We've come to understand each others expectations and often are able to stay one step ahead of each other making the process more efficient.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I most appreciate their attention to detail. They bring innovative and creative solutions. If I may add just they're cost effective, professional, prompt and very service oriented.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Any areas of improvement have been addressed over multiple projects working together. At this point our workflow together is pretty streamlined. They truly do a great job. They're a skilled team, and I've enjoyed working with them.

The goals were to create a video explaining the unique process in order to show the customer the benefits of this process.

I searched the web for animators and saw that Wow-How had good quality and good reviews.

The video is a 3D animation of a unique filtration process for gas turbines. It shows the airflow through the various filtration processes.

The team worked with us on a few rounds of feedback on various stages of the development.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We had a very tight schedule and even a deadline shift cutting a few days before the original deadline. The Wow-How team put in the extra work to meet the deadline. They provided a quality product that showed the process clearly and showed our client the benefits of the process.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow was good with lots of communication between our team and theirs on any revisions so both teams understood what the results would be.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

What I found most impressive was their ability to get a quality animation done even though the deadline was moved up.

As the owner of a video marketing agency, I find it very hard to find freelancers that can adapt to my point of view and my graphic design style. But Wow-How knows how to do this. We gave them an unreasonable amount of time to finish a project, but they managed to do it as a team. They worked long days, until early in the morning to make sure our deadline was met.

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

The communication of Wow-How is above normal. They take the lead in your project (with all the respect) and work together as a team to finish it in time. I think there were about 6 people involved in the project, but they assigned 1 account manager so we didn't have to deal with all the different people.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The video we made together was appreciated a lot by our client. They are very satisfied so that makes us as an agency very happy.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Excellent communication, excellent adherence to deadlines. From the beginning, they gave us a feeling of trust that everything would be alright. No false commitments, they first think whether they can do it or not. If they go for it, they will succeed.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The most impressive part was that they stayed kind and at ease, although there was a very short deadline.

We discovered the team on Upwork and engaged them there. They're one of the more highly recommended teams on there and their cost range was within the budget we had as a small startup.

The final video involves animation of the agreed upon storyboard and a voice over that conveys our messaging about our product. After nailing down the messaging, storyboard and animation styles we went back and forth with the Wow How team to make adjustments based on the feedback from internal stakeholders on our side.

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

Wow How had 2 managers communicating with us via email about the deliverables. They also had instructions for us at every stage about how to best provide them with input on the changes we needed. They were able to convey our feedback directly to their team without any meaning being lost in transit.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We haven't started using the video yet. Our sales team was extremely happy to have the final video to help them and they gave it both thumbs up. We expect sales leads and website visitors to respond positively to the video.

Wow How's team was extremely organized and did an excellent job of communicating with us in a timely manner. They were able to execute changes and provide great feedback on the best direction to take things for the video.

Their team was always on the ball with their deliverables. Even without a well defined creative brief they were able to give us exactly what we needed in the end.

We're extremely happy with the work the team has done and look forward to working with them in the future. There are no complaints from us.

The process was a two-sided collaboration. In the first stage, our company provided the information about ourselves and shared goals we'd like to achieve. Meanwhile, the Wow-How Delivery Manager assigned to our project and the Creative Manager suggested the most profitable way to show our company's benefits with the visual development. We've chosen a 3D-animation style for our explainer video.

So, after our company approved the storyboard, the Wow-How team started working on the visual development. They created a stylish, dynamic explainer video for our company, with eye-catching animation and a reasonable plot, which favorably distinguishes itself from others.

We wanted tutorial videos explaining all the features so that we can make use of them in-game, on our website, and also in our social media channels. Doing this would certainly help all users understand the game and its features.

How did you select this vendor?

We'd met in person during the BETT 2019 conference in London and shared details about our companies. Once back from the conference, they shared their company profile and contacted us to check what services we required. Since we'd already conversed with them during the conference, we decided to give them our requirements.

We had informed them about our game, which they had downloaded and played. We shared with them how the game should be explained and gave the text that needed to be displayed and at what intervals we wanted. They went through the information and gave suggestions for designs. Then, they recorded the videos and sent them to us for verification. After all clarifications, they sent us the final files. 

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

They had assigned a project manager for our project who was in constant communication with us about any queries we had or they had. During the project manager's absence, another person was assigned to handle the project. The project was followed up well, and after sending a few videos back and forth we were able to finalize the content and complete the project.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We have yet to begin adding the videos to our game and our social media platforms. At the moment, this question cannot be answered.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The project manager was very courteous, and considering that we are a game development company, we had some bugs on our end that took a while to rectify. Throughout the process, they were patient for us to finish our plan and did re-record a few sessions for us on our request. My team was able to understand all the communication from them clearly and without any issues.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They were always on point about their requirements and details and were quick to understand our wants and needs. We are happy with their excellent services and for delivering the videos as requested.
