We wanted our self-published book to look presentable, not amateur.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Visible Logic helped us with the package design. We initially told them little about what we wanted and provided the text; it came to about 54 pages. We also provided them with various charts, maps, and photographs and asked them for sample designs, colors, sizes, and print formats.

We were in contact with three teammates.

How did you come to work with Visible Logic?

They were recommended by a friend who worked with them before. We also used them four years ago for a privately-published book of poetry.

We worked together from August–December 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We were very pleased with the book. We’ve been distributing it, and it’s been very well received at the historical societies and a bookstore. So far, we’ve gotten many compliments on its appearance.

How did Visible Logic perform from a project management standpoint?

They stayed within budget. We didn’t have any deadlines, but Visible Logic was prompt. Initially, we had a few delays, but we attributed them to the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic forced employees to work from home. Under those circumstances, they were very responsive.

We communicated via email and edited with Adobe.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We liked their professionalism and responsiveness. When we asked for changes, they had a friendly attitude. Also, Visible Logic was personable and easy to communicate with. They always made time for us, and their designer was quite talented.

Are there any areas they could improve?

When we worked with Visible Logic four years ago, they were more involved in book design. This time, they pivoted more toward marketing and rebranding. Though we did not necessarily fit the profile of Visible  Logic’s  principal client, their design services and suggestions for changes were excellent.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be as specific as possible; tell them what you hope to achieve. The more information they have, the better they can perform. Also, Visible Logic isn’t cheap, but they’re an excellent option for self-publishing authors. If you want a book that doesn’t look like a hack job, they’ll do a fine job for you.

I’m the owner of a storm restoration contracting company. We primarily complete roof replacements due to storm damage for residential and commercial property owners, along with associated ancillary trades, such as gutter, siding, painting, and so on.

What challenge were you trying to address with Visible Logic?

We wanted to do a brand refresh to bring our brand into the 21st century. We wanted to do some copywriting and create a new logo, web theme, and copy materials that would reflect the new brand identity while staying somewhat true to our roots.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, we did some discovery calls with Visible Logic to explain what we wanted. They had questions, and we provided verbal or written responses. Then, they created a document and did market and competitor research, looking at their brand positioning and designs to provide context. Afterward, we discussed common themes and how we could differentiate ourselves. They also conducted interviews to get a sense of the brand voice we were aiming for so they could create the copy on our website and marketing materials.

They created the copy and new design for our site, keeping in theme with the new branding and logo. They also helped us migrate our website to a new host after it was hacked.

Additionally, Visible Logic has created a PDF for potential clients and worked on SEO on our website. Currently, we have plans for them to tackle our Facebook page because we don’t have much of a presence there.

We’ve worked with four teammates, including a digital marketing specialist, a dedicated account manager/project manager, and a web developer.

I found them searching on Google for a marketing agency that could also help us with branding. Visible Logic popped up, and we scheduled a call with them. We started working with them in August 2022, and the marketing and branding portion was completed in February 2023. However, they’ll continue working on SEO and PPC.

We don’t have any metrics at this time. However, Visible Logic has helped us implement all tracking numbers across various channels and on the website so we can track where our leads are coming from.

They’re very skilled at project management. The team is organized and task-oriented; they remind us of what we need to contribute to help them create the deliverables. Overall, they’ve kept us on track, and it’s helpful to have a dedicated account manager to help us reach our goals monthly.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started the engagement by establishing a name for the company and creating our logo, colors, and other branding elements. They asked me a bunch of questions and came up with six different design options for our brand. I then selected the one I liked best, and we went from there. Visible Logic also conducted intensive market research on my product. They ended up delivering a perfect brand for us. I’ve since worked with them again to design our labels, packaging, and website.

We grew incredibly quickly after we launched our product. We went from zero to almost $700,000 in revenue in 2019, and we had seven international distributors. The look of my website, labels, and packaging was all done by Visible Logic, so my product would not be what it is today without them.

Visible Logic performed well in terms of project management. They were responsive and consistent in meeting our deadlines.

Make sure that you have a clear idea of your goals and desired outcomes, but also be open to Visible Logic’s opinions because they are highly skilled and experienced in what they do. It’s important to approach them with an open mind and with trust.

We wanted to ensure that we were effectively letting people know about our existence and the services we provide to amplify our impact across our state. The goal was to address this through marketing and website updates.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Visible Logic provides marketing and web design services for us. They’ve been instrumental in helping us develop program guidelines and updates, revamp our website, develop content-based boilerplate messaging, enhance our brand persona, improve the customer journey, and streamline our messaging so it’s clearer for our customers what we do and better engage with them. In addition, they’ve given us step-by-step guidance on how customers can engage with us, developed and improved collateral materials like brochures, and managed our monthly newsletter by making it more graphically appealing and rich with content. Moreover, Visible Logic’s team has done a great job with our annual report to our funders.

Visible Logic also works with companies we’ve funded to create a success story for our website and monthly newsletter. They’ve likewise created advertisements for newspapers, magazines, and sponsored events and helped us develop press releases when needed.

Thanks to Visible Logic’s work, our materials are night and day from what we used to produce. Moreover, we’ve seen increased website traffic, applications, and client activity, which are positive improvements.

Visible Logic is always on time with our tight deadlines. In addition, their team has been accessible, reliable, and responsive throughout our partnership, even on last-minute requests. In terms of tools and communication, we use email.

They tailor their services according to my needs, which is refreshing and invaluable to us because we have unique requirements. Visible Logic’s team has helped us address those needs in an effective and trustworthy manner — they’re an extension of our team.

I’m a program manager for Raising Readers, a nonprofit that gives books to young children.

What challenge were you trying to address with Visible Logic?

We were looking to completely redesign our website and make it more visually appealing to our stakeholders. We serve the entire state of Maine, so every single family in the state receives books from our program. We wanted a user-friendly and relevant website where parents, teachers, librarians, and physicians could go and look for the services we offer and the books we provide. 

All the books we provide are doctor recommended because the pediatricians and healthcare providers are the ones giving the books. We wanted our website to showcase all of these books and share with the visitors on the website the historical backlist of our books and why we chose them. We also wanted to show the program for what it is and that it is grant-funded. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We used the old website for reference in the development phase and provided them with some copy. The website features books we’ve given to families and shows the book title, publisher, the year it was distributed through our program, and the book's central themes. If a family wants to look for a specific kind of book, they can search for it on our website, and anything related to that topic comes up. 

There’s also a section for parents highlighting what is happening developmentally for children at specific stages and ages. This focuses specifically on the developmental milestones related to early literacy. There are activities related to books that are easily accessible; the website gives the ability to leave reviews. We’re proud that many of our books are written and illustrated by individuals from Maine, which is something that is showcased on the website for users to see. 

The website was built on WordPress, and Visible Logic offers maintenance to ensure it has everything it needs to function properly. 

What is the team composition?

We primarily work with two people, one of which was a project manager; there were probably six people working on the project's backend. 

How did you come to work with Visible Logic?

We called for proposals from local web developers, and we thought the proposal they sent us would be a good fit for us. We met with them and decided to move forward after that.

We started working together in December 2020, and the engagement is ongoing.

We’ve spent a little more than $50,000.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

A number of people in our stakeholder group have commented on how fresh and easy the website is to navigate, which was one of our main goals. We’ve only received positive feedback, and even though we launched the website a while ago, we’ve continued to have people comment on how nice it is. 

How did Visible Logic perform from a project management standpoint?

All the work has been completed on time and within budget. Visible Logic has been highly responsive and flexible with our schedule and when we’ve been able to do things. We primarily use Google Docs and Dropbox. We communicate via phone calls, emails, and Zoom meetings.

They work diligently and have been highly accommodating. We work really well together, and despite any challenges that might come up, everything has been going fairly smoothly.

What challenge were you trying to address with Visible Logic?

We had a very complicated hand-coded website, and we needed Visible Logic to simplify everything, including navigation and custom posts, to make our website more understandable.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Visible Logic built our WordPress website from scratch. First, they reviewed our previous website page by page and broke down every single asset. From there, we decided what was worth keeping, combining, or redesigning. We wanted to keep important assets, so the team used material from our previous site. 

From there, Visible Logic built the site’s look, ensuring it aligned with our branding. They developed our landing pages, moved over content from the previous site, and built new features for us, including a sales calendar and a new locations page. The team also made custom features that enable us to notify users if we have a delay in any location. They created a manual for us to manage the site.

What is the team composition?

We mainly worked with three teammates from Visible Logic: DeAnne (Senior Designer & Developer), a project manager, and the owner.

We found them through word of mouth; I heard about DeAnne through a friend.

We worked with them from November 2021–July 2022. They remain on standby in case we need any additional support.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Thanks to Visible Logic, our website’s backend functionality has improved exponentially. Although we didn’t dislike our previous site, the backend was complicated because it was handmade by an employee. 

Visible Logic made the backend usable so that, should our staff change over time, almost anybody can go into the backend and easily make whatever updates or changes they need. The site is so easy and clean that it has saved us hundreds of hours of staff time. We no longer need to be frustrated about how the site works. 

How did Visible Logic perform from a project management standpoint?

They delivered an excellent experience from a project management perspective. Their project manager was on top of it, and the team was a go-getter. They were eager to get things done for us. If anything slowed down, it was because of me and not them. 

Visible Logic adapted to our project management tools, so we used Google Sheets to ensure we were on track. This way, I knew where I was holding them up and what they needed from me, and they knew what changes I wanted as they went through different iterations of the site’s pages. As for communication, we used Zoom to meet every week or so and made quick phone calls as needed. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Visible Logic’s design and web functionality were awesome; they were experts in WordPress.They were also great project managers who could get things done really quickly. At the same time, they were super patient, kind, and flexible when we had edit requests or design ideas. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

There was nothing else I would have wanted them to do; they did everything we asked of them and more. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be honest about your skill set. Since I had a good WordPress skill set, Visible Logic trusted me to take on parts of the project I could and wanted to. However, if you’re unfamiliar with WordPress, you can let them be the expert and take the lead — they’re good cooperators.

We initially hired Visible Logic to update our website. Then, our engagement evolved into updating our entire branding.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

First, we went through the branding process, which included an in-depth questionnaire. Visible Logic made us think about our services and helped us redefine what we do and how to say it. From that point, they redesigned our logo and business cards and rebuilt our website using WordPress.

We had an existing website, but they didn’t use much of it other than the testimonials. They developed most of it based on our branding process. Currently, they continue to do ongoing maintenance of the website. Also, they’ve done a couple of other things around the site.

A client was using them for a newsletter, and we worked with them on that. When we were ready for a website update, we were already familiar with their work. Moreover, we were impressed with their professionalism and clear, articulated communication, so we went with them.

We started working together in July 2018 and finished the website in October 2019. Still, they provide ongoing maintenance for the website.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We had a horrible website before; we didn’t know how bad it was until we got the new one. They modernized us. Now, we have the updated site, business cards, and logo. We don’t do any marketing efforts other than the website, and we have more business than we can handle. Overall, it communicates perfectly what we do, so we don’t have to do anything else to get business.

How did Visible Logic perform from a project management standpoint?

During development, they did everything on time, if not earlier. We were the ones that delayed them by not getting things done when we said we would. However, once we finished the branding process, everything moved quickly. We were pleased with how fast the website was built.

When we need little updates or to add something, it’s usually done on that same day. The turnaround time is great, and they get back to us immediately, even if they can’t do it right away. Overall, their communication is professional and on point.

They know about branding. We’d never had anybody pushing that hard to think about what we do. It was really helpful.

No, I can’t think of anything.

Have an open mind and be willing to learn. If we’d gone in being sure about what we wanted to say, we would’ve missed out on a lot. Since they really understand the marketplace and technologies behind websites, we got a lot more out of them by letting them be the experts.

We needed to raise transactions.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Visible Logic has helped us create a reliable source of leads. They work on marketing to make some inbound leads that we could convert into real estate transactions. Also, they’ve developed a quickly identifiable brand, specifically a logo to stand out among competitors and create a unique visual identity and branding. In addition to the logo, they’ve created some messaging for a consistent voice and branding message.

In the beginning, our idea to set us apart from the competition was to provide deeper information in the form of blogs or vignettes. We gave them a synopsis of the concept and what we wanted the brand to be. They took a set of WordPress templates, mashed up what we wanted with what was already available, and customized that.

Emily (President) is the project and creative lead; she did the logo. Lauren (Account Manager) is our liaison with Visible Logic. Also, we’ve worked with a content developer, a UI person, and a backend developer.

How did you come to work with Visible Logic?

I connected with them after Emily and I signed up for a bookkeeping workshop. I saw her brand and followed up with her after that. Visible Logic was one of three companies that I interviewed. They seemed to have an idea of how to keep the process streamlined. Some economic factors were involved, but overall, they understood what I was looking for and reflected it back to me.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2020, and our relationship is ongoing. We've had a series of deliverables as we’ve gone through the process.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our content is driven explicitly by individuals, and the response has been undoubtedly positive. For example, we use some videos when teaching a first-time homebuyer class, and we’ve gotten great feedback.

How did Visible Logic perform from a project management standpoint?

Although their efforts have taken longer than expected, they’ve performed well. We communicate via Zoom. They initially had several documents to tease out answers; at our request, we had a sit-down meeting so we could explain what we needed. We like working directly with people, so we were more comfortable conveying the message personally. They were happy to accommodate us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have a personal touch. They’re good listeners, and it’s a personal service.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They included a couple of deliverables that they thought would be a good idea. A portion of the project was dedicated to an email campaign, and it’s just sitting there. We haven’t used it even once.
