We started with a meeting to talk about our brands, customer base, and what we wanted to increase ranking for and why. We came up with 50 core keywords to rank on Google and Google maps.
We reviewed our progress with our customer success manager every month and he was very thorough and patient explaining the progress, strategies, and how we could take extra action to make our websites rank higher. We also implemented better tracking, such as the ability to track calls on our website, so that we could better measure our success.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We were targeting 50 core keywords starting with 2 on page 1 and a year later we have 12 on page 1 and 21 on page 2 closing in. We also target the same 50 core keywords on Google maps starting with 1 in the Top 3 and 13 in spots 4-10. After a year, we now have 12 in Top 3 and 12 in 4-10 spots.
Also, we are in the top 3 for several local keywords that we weren’t ranking for at all, each represents over 5,000 searches per month. Organic Traffic to the site increased by 34%. That's an increase of 22k visitors from keywords we know are high intent. We also increased organic phone calls by 343%.

The workflow between teams has been great. Our monthly calls are helpful in understanding strategy and success, and how much we are making progress in our SEO efforts. They are always patient and helpful if we need support.

The company is professional and responsive, as well as knowing a lot about SEO and tactics that actually work.
Are there any areas for improvement?
Since our businesses were closed during COVID-19, we asked that they do part of the SEO work and accept payment later when we have cash flow coming in. They would not grant this request even though every other company we work with did support this request which was disappointing.

We started off by auditing our website. Victorious found many flaws we were not aware of that was effecting our website's rankings and performance. This part of the process also included going over all of our webpage data/content, finding improvements, and then fixing them. After all changes were put in place, we moved to a phase of blog content and back linking to begin to rank for our targeted keywords. Duties were split between the Victorious team and our internal team on delivering changes, articles, etc, but victorious did do many of the technical changes on our backend.

I worked directly with a project manager, but also had communication with others depending on what phase of the process we were in. We did have a project manager switch half way through because our original one received a promotion.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We actually saw a big jump in traffic after our first few months because of all the improvements Victorious was able to identify. These unknown issues, in addition to us adding a large amount of keyword specific content and improvements, gave us a noticeable improvement in traffic one the changes went live. We also saw consistent keyword ranking improvements as our project progressed.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
There was a good workflow. We used asana for project management and also google docs for sharing files. They were very transparent with what their team was doing, and also provided regular, polished updates about our progress/improvement.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
They appear to be a well-oiled machine. Everything from proposals to monthly updates were clear and polished. The Victorious team also seems to genuinely care about our company, which is great. They even worked with us as our company went through some tough financial times (being that we were a start-up).

Overall the process was good. More resources in blog content creation would have been helpful, especially because we are a lean start-up with very limited resources. I also had some misunderstandings during certain parts of the strategy that we needed to overcome.

They’re helping us with two aspects of SEO. 70% of what they work on is the backend programming and technical stuff. The other 30% is content-related, so titles, writing, actual paragraphs, and keywords to help our position on Google.
They pulled up some pages that they thought needed help, and then they would suggest some keywords. Then I would oversee the implementation of actual content.

I worked directly with John (Project Manager), but he would bring in other team members if needed.

The people we work with are very personable. They have a lot of different tools to help keep up organized, like Asana. That helps us track what needs to get done. We can also contact them through phone or email, and they always get back to us very quickly.

We’ve been going through a bit of a hard time because of the COVID-19 outbreak and our company runs on tradeshows and events. So, we asked Victorious to pause the project because of our low revenue, and they’ve been very nice and have worked with us. We’ve been able to sit down to go over each aspect of the project to pick what can be paused and what other tasks are still valuable to work on over the next few months. They’ve been super understanding, and it’s a great indicator of the type of people they are.

When I first started at Jetpack Workflow, I knew that I would need to dig into the website analytics to understand what was happening from an engagement and traffic health standpoint. After seeing great growth in the first few years of business, traffic had started to fall off and we identified some possible algorithm updates that were contributing factors. Knowing that an SEO audit and strategy was best left to the experts, I started searching for a firm that could do the heavy lifting for audit and strategy, but also be educational in their approach so we could learn as much as we could during the time we worked with them. We had never worked with a vendor in this capacity before, so we carefully vetted firms until Victorious scored above and beyond others. We ended up hiring Victorious to complete a website audit for us and to provide an initial 6-month strategy to start triaging the organic traffic loss. We ended up renewing with them after the 6 months due to their excellent client services, education, and thoughtful and impactful strategy recommendations.
What were your goals for this project?
Organic traffic was a huge factor for new customers to find us so we knew that this was a high impact, high return project, even if we knew it would take some time. This work was intended to help support and regain lost traffic. The extended contract is in place to help us gain new traffic to the website while supporting a website transition. We were hoping to see a lot of our site health checks to come back with improved grades/scores, more traffic and a better understanding of how we can shape content strategy alongside SEO best practices.

How did you select this vendor?
We created an internal scorecard of what we wanted in a firm. I do have a long experience in digital marketing agencies so I was also looking for a firm that seemed honest, transparent and factual. If there was a firm that was promising #1 on Google rankings, I was not interested. I wanted a firm that presented sound SEO strategy - and if they didn't know the answers, they would find them for us. We ended up using about 6 criteria to grade vendors, including factors such as team size/support per client, cost and a record of success. We evaluated roughly 7 vendors. I was the sole decision-maker, however our CEO was involved in the process as well. The deciding factor for choosing Victorious was their prompt and courteous replies, their willingness to work with us on budget and their approach to strategy which was rooted in best practices that I was also familiar with. Start to finish, the experience with Victorious has been excellent and that really put them above other firms.

Victorious jumped right in and was able to kick off a strategy session to understand our business and market. They then jumped right into the website audit and within a month, they delivered a comprehensive audit as well as keyword research to get us started. Their project management system was well organized and easy to understand and their team was available for questions. The keyword research was refined by speaking with us multiple times and further understanding our intended goal(s) for this project.

We've had one main contact in this process, Jeff. He's been wonderful to work with, leading us in strategy and discovery sessions. He's the main point of contact for us. If he can't answer a question for us, he's pulled in other strategists who have al been knowledgable and helpful for us. We had two business development managers who supported us on the contract side. Both were also very patient and did not overbear on the sales side. I really appreciated the low pressure approach.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We have been seeing steady growth on organic traffic, but not a waterfall. However, many of the issues remain on our site that are beyond the control of Victorious and we are in the midst of a website update to remedy most of these issues. We have seen contributions to our free trials and customer counts stabilize (original goal) and start to slowly increase in the last few months.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
I've been super pleased with the workflow between teams. They are able to answer questions in a timely manner, and if they don't know the answer, they at least respond and acknowledge receipt which is really reassuring. We speak monthly, but email frequently. Jeff has been happy to jump on an extra call to sort out any additional questions live as well.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
If I could choose three it would be: Customer service, SEO expertise and pricing. They're worth every penny we have invested in them. Compared to the competition, I appreciate how organized and seamless their process is. I never once felt like I was speaking to separate teams (sales and success). I am eager to see where this year takes us in terms of traffic and new customers from the work we have begun and continue to do with them. Again, coming from an agency myself, I'm super happy with the level of service I am receiving. I totally understand that they likely have many clients per account manager (if's the nature of the beast!), but I am happy with the level of service and kind communication I get.
Are there any areas for improvement?
It's hard to find something, but one thing I would recommend is that Victorious keep a company fact sheet for each client. There have been a few times that I repeated myself on a small detail (seasonality of business), that could easily be avoided if there were a fact sheet on file for us as a quick reminder. Again, I totally get that there are multiple clients per manager, so I am quick to forgive these small details that are forgotten in the days of meetings that can be agency life.

Our product covers a large array of strategies and solutions for our industry, which typically has varying singular-strategy competitors. Because we had this large array, we wanted to focus and try as much as we could to get organic traffic up on all of those solutions.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
One of the KPIs are targeted keywords. Over just a few months, they’ve increased our keywords by over 800 total keyword positions. Organic traffic increased by about 9% from January to February. They increased our number of clicks by about 7% over this same period.
How did Victorious perform from a project management standpoint?
Our main contact is on top of everything. I’ve worked with a lot of account managers, and she’s the first one I don’t have to follow up with on certain things. Right after calls, she lets us know what she needs from us and what we need from them. They deliver on every request that we have and every promise they give. We mainly communicate by email, but we also have weekly to monthly calls.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They have a very good setup and are well-organized. They’re clear about what the deliverables are going to be and provide constant reminders about those deliverables. There has never been a question about what we’re getting from the investment. Victorious has a good, well-refined process that delivers, and that has given them much success.
Are there any areas they could improve?
The only gripe I have is that they weren’t too familiar with our industry. We run into this a lot because it’s a very niche industry.
Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
They should ask questions. Often times, people aren’t entirely sure what goes into SEO work. Victorious is incredibly knowledgeable, and, if our account manager doesn’t know something, they’ll be frank about it and come back with an answer or whatever mitigation is needed.
I’m very knowledgeable about SEO, so I can talk to them on a technical level, but their team is great about explaining SEO in terms that our upper management can understand, along with the value that it provides. That makes my life a lot easier, and it definitely speaks to the benefits that they provide.

In the beginning, they told us what we could realistically expect from their team based on our needs. They gave us a monthly report that detailed notable growth for various keywords.
