Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of a navigational service company. We supply nautical charts and other charts used by sailors and merchants for their safe navigations. We do some emergency kits and other things for navigation purposes.

What challenge were you trying to address with Trigma?
The marine industry is pretty old. The industry was facing digitalization issues. Everybody started from paper maps and then we moved to the age of computers. There was a strong need for a web application that would allow marinas to quickly search and make waypoints.
Before this, weather, sounds, light points, tides, and everything else were all on paper. They’ve had to log this data for at least the last 20 years, but we needed to convert the logbooks into digital format.

What was the scope of their involvement?
Trigma developed a cloud-based Java application. Based on the hard copies we had, they built that information into the application. There was an option where they could make the changes and add the field.
One of the features built into the app accounts for the flag state of each country. There are different rules and regulations that mariners need to follow depending on the flag state, so it’s important that they have the most up to date information. For example, Canada needed an electronic book for their flag state that followed a specific format.
The important point was to connect the changes that the captain, second officer, or third officer are making, to the main server. If the superintendent or the ship manager goes, they can quickly review it. It allows users to monitor on what’s happening on the ship.
What is the team composition?
There were 8–9 people working on the project in total. Some of them were overlapping. At one time, there were 5–6 on the team.
How did you come to work with Trigma?
We initially met with a couple of companies to get an idea of how we could approach the project and how fast it could be done. I met Trigma’s founder at a webinar and decided they would be the best fit.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent between $55,000–$60,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in February 2020 and wrapped up the project in June 2020. The maintenance is ongoing.

They were quick to understand what we needed and delivered it. They picked up things really well.
How did Trigma perform from a project management standpoint?
We used a project management software where they listed all the work they’ve done. We had group sessions with them on a weekly basis. There were ongoing discussions.
They walked us through what they did so we knew what was going on. They were very good with time management. We never had any late deliverables. All milestones were properly met.

They’re consistent. They put a lot into planning the development and it worked out really well. . I was impressed by their attention to detail. For example, and purchased some of the other licenses just to see how they could increase connectivity for users

We just had one manager assigned to the project and HR resources who would provide the feedback on need basis. As Trigma team had done such work earlier as well, they were able to guide us on best practices.
It was a smooth flow as we utilized early morning calls to share the requirements and by next day, the incremental development was complete.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
I would say that while such projects are usually driven by scope and pricing, Trigma team always kept the employee experience at the top.
Trigma teams highlighted the additional features that would be critical to success of the website/app. It was the goal oriented and customer centric approach of the team which was impressive.
Are there any areas for improvement?
It was a great experience with Trigma and we are already exploring some projects inside our organisation.
