There was an instance where we felt their response could have been more detailed. Enhancing this aspect would further strengthen their already excellent communication and responsiveness.

We needed support developing a mobile application.

What was the scope of their involvement?

TouchZen Media designed and developed an Android and iOS application. For the design phase, the team used Figma and customized the product according to how we wanted it to look. The development phase took longer because they had to go through the code and make sure everything worked and was clickable.  

Our app had a chat feature, and users could see their account information, including their balance. Users could also book a private jet flight and select the date, airport, number of passengers, and type of aircraft.

We worked with TouchZen Media from August 2023–March 2024. The team is working on the app's second version already, which is close to being launched.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

TouchZen Media successfully delivered and launched our app. Users could download our app with ease and a smooth transition. TouchZen Media met our expectations and included all our requests in the app. We were very pleased with the team's work. 

How did TouchZen Media perform from a project management standpoint?

TouchZen Media stayed on budget and communicated via Zoom and email. The team was constantly communicating with us and responded quickly. The timeline was pushed back by about a month.
Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

I want to highlight Cyrus' work. He was very responsive and listened to all our requests. He ensured bugs were immediately fixed, and we were pleased with the outcome. One time, he was close to our office and came in person to show us how the app worked. He offered a personalized approach. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was mostly impressed with TouchZen Media's design skills and how quickly they fixed bugs and issues. The team was flexible.

Are there any areas they could improve?

TouchZen Media's development speed could improve since it was slower, and our timeline got pushed back about a month.

Touchzen was required to build a functional prototype that demonstrates the core features of the app, such as authentication, navigation, community browsing, posting, commenting, chatting and notifications. After this prototype has been examined, a beta version of the app will be made and tested and debugged for any errors or bugs. Once the beta version has been examined to be bug free, a final version of the app will be deployed to the App store and Google Play store.

The number of downloads on App store and Play store has been impressive since our last update. We've had an increase in the number of active users and engagement in the app has also increased as well.

Touchzen has a very professional and efficient project management. They communicated regularly with me through email, phone calls and video meetings. They responded to my needs and requests promptly. Also, they provided me with regular updates and reports on the project status and progress.

if I had to nitpick, I would say they could have involved me more in the testing and debugging process of the app. I would have liked to see more demos and feedback sessions before launching the beta version.

We had 3 week sprints and each sprint was pointed. I was fine as long as they were completing 80% of points per sprint. We also had design comps, architecture diagrams, devops setup in Azure, and project plans.

Hybrid, mixture of waterfall and agile. Development was done in agile, while the overall project that included research, design, and architecture was waterfall. The stories in each sprint were very thoroughly documented with references to Figma designs, acceptance criteria, etc. They were very disciplined in commenting in Figma and JIRA which made keeping track of everything straightforward. At our request, they documented requirements in Confluence.

We've been impressed with their project management and documentation skills. This is one of the most underrated areas when it comes to project success, but was extremely important due to our complex project.

I’m the director and CEO of Once Trece, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness about HIV/AIDS. We have a clinic and offer scholarships to medical students to incentivize conscientious medical education. We have sites in Caracas, Nueva Esparta, and Estado Bolívar, Venezuela, and in Florida, US.

Our clinic offers free services, and we also offer telemedicine services for populations that are far from healthcare centers. Additionally, since HIV/AIDS is still stigmatized, we have an initiative to create a telemedicine app to provide services confidentially without patients exposing their condition at a healthcare center.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with TouchZen Media?

We had been developing our telemedicine application for around two years with an offshore company that didn’t complete the work correctly. Since we’re an NGO, we work with donation funds. Many donors contributed to our project, and we spent the resources with a company that didn’t provide results, which hurt our image as an organization. 

When I asked the developers for changes or updates, they didn’t answer, and the app wasn’t working. At this point, we didn’t feel anyone could continue the code the company had created. Then, I found TouchZen Media. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

TouchZen Media provides us with mobile app development. The team has worked with the existing app’s code to make it functional. They’ve mostly worked with the designs created by the previous company but made some changes according to the parameters we provided. The team has fixed the video call functionality and corrected language and spelling errors within the app. The app is for Android and iOS. 

Additionally, I’ve asked them to create a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) control service within the app for our in-person medical service. If a patient needs to attend in-person appointments to receive attention, I want everything to be in a single database, easily accessible in a doctor’s office. TouchZen Media has built this functionality.

Next, the team will add a new medical specialty to the app. They’ll help me develop a form for the patients to fill out.

I’ve only worked directly with Cyrus (Founder) and a developer, though many other developers have been involved in the project, 

How did you come to work with TouchZen Media?

I contacted them and explained the situation to Cyrus, who told me TouchZen Media could fix the app. Even though I still had doubts due to our previous experience, I was willing to try them since we didn’t have much to lose after two years of developing an app that didn’t work. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent less than $10,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

The main development period lasted from March–June 2023, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The results of TouchZen Media’s work have been excellent. They haven’t just fixed the app as I expected but have taken a weight off us regarding our commitment to patients, doctors, and the organizations that donated to create the app. 

In the first 15 days after the app launched, we provided service to 65 patients, with consultations between 25–30 minutes. The video calls have worked well. Even though some of our patients live in places without the best internet service, the app has maintained connectivity throughout our calls with patients. 

Although I’d be lying if I said the app is 100% what I wanted, that’s not because of TouchZen Media’s work but our previous provider. Due to the project's urgency, TouchZen Media has worked with the existing code and done a fantastic job. They’ve taken something poorly made and turned it into a functional app. If I could create the app from scratch, I would hire TouchZen Media without question. 

Before working with the team, the app wasn’t ready to be available on the Play Store. Most of our target audience only has access to Android, so we couldn’t only release the app on iOS as it would be discriminating against users. TouchZen Media came on board and made the app available for iOS and Android simultaneously, and the app is now in the Play Store. 

Additionally, TouchZen Media provides us with immediate responses and attention. The team has followed our instructions when it comes to design, which we appreciate. They listen to us; that didn’t happen with our previous provider. 

How did TouchZen Media perform from a project management standpoint?

Many developers aren’t in the same time zones, so programming meetings can be complex because we have to find hours in which we’re all awake. Still, even though TouchZen Media is located in Los Angeles, and many of the developers are based in India, whenever I contact them with a question, they get back to me within 15–20 minutes. 

As for the development process, the team works in stages. Initially, I sent them a PDF file with requirements, they indicated which steps they needed to follow, and we created a milestone. When that milestone was completed, I sent them new requirements. This allowed me to prioritize aspects of the app, such as getting video calls to work first. We’ve had two milestones so far, and I’ll create new milestones as I gather more feedback about the app. 

TouchZen Media is also budget-conscious, which is important to us. The team is efficient and transparent about their work hours. For example, if they predicted 14 work hours for a task, and the job takes five hours instead, they let me know I have a balance of nine hours for a different task.

What did you find most impressive about them?

TouchZen Media’s attentiveness has distinguished them from our previous provider. A customer usually has a project and the funds and wants a result. TouchZen Media has demonstrated they can deliver what a customer expects. The team has provided the attention I expected from a professional service provider. 

In our organization, we’re UN officials. The experience with the previous company hurt our image. That image has been restored since I found TouchZen Media and got positive results. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I’m sure there’s something they could improve, but I haven’t found anything they need to change in the time I’ve worked with them. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You can be confident in choosing TouchZen Media. When working with a service provider online, there’s always doubt when making a deposit. As used as we are to virtual work, it’s always good to see the person you’ll work with and negotiate face-to-face. TouchZen Media has demonstrated trustworthiness, so I’d recommend them to anyone wanting to create an app.

The project was ~8-12 months in length. It required a complete overhaul of the existing app from the ground up. We utilize Flutter Mobile App with Google Cloud as the primary tech stack. However, we incorporated Contentful CMS for content delivery, utilized Video Delivery platforms, and incorporated several SDKs to help bring specific features to the market. This was an extremely complex and elaborate project.

The project was an alarming success. Subscribers are coming inconsistently. CTR, CVR, Retention stats are all growing. We will exceed the first two Quarters' targets.

We were trying to build a mobile app that our patients’ families could use to connect with social services. Our goal was to provide a platform that is slightly improved from what our competitors offer, so we turned to TouchZen Media.

At the start of the engagement, we had already designed a paper model for the mobile app. We handed this over to TouchZen Media who then engineered it into existence. We collaborated on the creative process. Their team built out the wireframes from the comprehensive outline that we had.

We worked with around four people from TouchZen Media. On a daily basis, our go-to person was Cyrus (Founder). He brought other people in as needed.

They were onboarded before I got involved in the project. I picked up after the previous person when they were at the 95-yard line.

We invested around $25,000–$50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project started late in 2019 and ended last February 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Unfortunately, we haven’t yet launched the app. Upon discovering that we needed to do some adjustments and reframing, TouchZen Media informed us that this would entail an expansion of the scope or a new contract. We decided to take over the code ourselves with our internal development team.

The app that was handed over to us, however, was built exactly the way we wanted. The quality of their code was great and everything functioned internally. TouchZen Media did a great job of bringing our vision to life. They helped us with the handoff process and offered to troubleshoot any errors or bugs during that period. 

How did TouchZen Media perform from a project management standpoint?

In the time I interacted with the team, they were very communicative and constantly available. It surprised me how quickly they would respond to my emails. They were also good at projecting timelines and giving rough estimations of how long things would take. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

What I appreciated about TouchZen Media was how they communicated. They were very generous with their patience especially when things got caught up on our side. Things tend to move very slowly in a large healthcare organization like ours, but they were very gracious through it all. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there was nothing specifically unprofessional that I noticed.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Define your goals and state them very clearly. Be involved with the team especially during the iterative process to make sure your product meets your conceptual goals. Make sure that everything is lined up on your side as well because the team moves very quickly.
