Mock-up design and development of an AI-powered travel platform in PWA format, under a fixed-price milestone contract on Upwork. Was to have been deisgned and deployed at a maximum of 18.5 weeks, but a realistic deployment of 14 weeks.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Delivery of defined milestones by date, as per the signed contract. The PWA system was to have been delivered in staged releases, allowing testing and deployment prior to handover.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

Before the contract was signed, all design specifications, mock-ups, and supporting design notes were provided to the developer.

What was initially agreed to be a two-week Figma design process extended to 11 weeks. Within the first two weeks, it became clear that the developer had under-scoped the project and began delivering work in small, delayed increments. The contracted lead, Zeeshan, was largely absent from active management, appearing to delegate the work to two subcontractors.

When questioned about the delays and extended timeline, the developer introduced a new condition—claiming to only allow 5–6 feedback rounds—something that was never discussed nor included in the signed contract.

Despite the lack of delivery, the Milestone 1 payment was released as a gesture of good faith. When the Figma handover was later requested, the developer ignored messages or falsely claimed the latest version had been delivered, when in fact it was an outdated iteration.

The contract was ultimately terminated for non-performance. The milestone work was never completed, yet payment was requested.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Initially, the appeal was the project delivery plan and the insights offered into how value could be created. However, as with many Upwork developers, it felt like a bait-and-switch situation — promises of one standard and delivery of another. Finding a developer with genuine expertise and strategic insight into AI is challenging, and this team initially appeared to possess that capability.

Are there any areas for improvement or something TechXpert could have done differently?

Scope projects correctly and not underquote. Avoid. This appears to be a classic bait-and-switch situation. Unfortunately, this is a common issue on Upwork, and the only reliable indicator of authenticity is past reviews. Be aware that the company’s communications are filtered through AI, giving the impression of attentiveness, but it’s ultimately just a façade.

They delivered on time and were always available, which was deeply appreciated. They were able to respond to alterations and changes with insightful recommendations on how to proceed.
