Techieonix is building our whole digital product. They've provided consultation, designed the product, performed backend engineering, created the UI/UX of the product, built the transactional layer, and built the frontend.

We initially made a first-meeting introduction to present the product, the project, and our needs. We then conducted a detailed analysis of what product components and pieces we had already. With Techieonix, we mapped out the sprints they were to do so that we could see the way we'd be progressing. Application design has been collaborating with Techieonix since we already had initial UX work and they helped us fine-tune that. The team utilized Figma for UI/UX designing.

Initially, Techieonix had sent us a proposal that outlined schedules, cost, sprints, approaches, and a technical team of 12 members. Then we worked with the technical team on the legal aspect of the project. Techieonix started working on the development process later on.

For development, Techieonix has made use of Flutter, Python, Go, React Native, Flutter, and MongoDB. DevOps-wise, they've used continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), Kubernetes, and AWS. Some native components on iOS and Android and a web version of the app have been developed by the team. We now have an MVP that functions.

The US-to-Mexico remittance corridor is the largest globally, with $80 billion annually on average, and we obtain that remittance from users that are located in the US. Users are able to log in and register, uploading some of their Know Your Customer (KYC) and compliance documents in order to confirm their identity to US authorities. Users can make payments once registered.

For example, if one makes $1,000, the app generates a receipt, and the system generates over 1,000 points of payment. Payment is routed via a clearing house so that money can be transferred to another Mexican user. Such a last user can put in the reference generated by the app. Last users also must load documents to prove their identity to Mexican officials. Finally, Mexican customers can go to a withdrawal site in order to pick up their remittances. In such a transaction, we charge users a fee.

Even though we have a base product, we also need to incorporate services, optimize the procedures, and establish the infrastructure. Techieonix will still be our tech partner to implement these activities.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Our product has over 50,000 users and a very positive rating from users who send money to Mexico. As with every development process, we’ve had bugs, but Techieonix has covered all the technical gaps. The team has handled all bugs within a non-productive app, so they’ve never affected the users. Although the work that we have to do with Techieonix is quite broad, and our company will be slow in expanding, we've had fantastic results so far.

Their project management was great, as everything was defined under a statement of work, so when we review every two weeks, we know which modules and functionalities need to be completed by what date.

Our communication process is also great because of an amalgamation of project management processes. Our commercial director and project manager visit our office for face-to-face interactions, and we also use Jira as a project management tool and phone calls, Slack, and email for communication.

Also, we have an appropriate communication hierarchy system where our CEO interacts with Techieonix's CEO, I interact with Techieonix's CTO, and our product manager interacts with Techieonix's project manager.

They established a CI/CD pipeline that spanned the automation of building and deploying our product to the cloud. They also made sure our security compliance was strictly enforced by multiple checks and balances. They made sure our cloud resources were optimized to minimize costs as well.

Everything from build to deployment was automated entirely with the help of Jenkins, minimizing the need for manual intervention. Cloud operations were fine-tuned for cost savings. Security scans were executed on time with minimal disruption to our release pipeline.

We partnered with Techieonix on a team extension arrangement, where they collaborated with us but did not mirror our process and project management methods. We designed our concepts, while Techieonix executed them all while allowing us to continue building upon their efforts ourselves.

Their main area of expertise was web development, handling both frontend (React) and backend (Symfony PHP) in a number of products. A few of the most significant features they helped us develop were:

DNS Management System: Enables customers to manage their domains, an essential feature for hosting providers. It enables clients to handle their webshop, server, and domains from a single location.
Notifications API: A system that alerts customers via WhatsApp, email, or Slack when there are updates related to their servers and applications. Techieonix built the first version, and we’ve since continued expanding on it.

The versatility which Techieonix provided was a big advantage, allowing us to scale down or up on our own terms. Sometimes we needed more frontend support and sometimes a backend focus was more intense and Techieonix accommodated it so seamlessly.

We used two-week sprints, where we carefully defined responsibility, set expectations, and made commitments. We checked progress following each sprint, measuring what was done and tagging any blockers. Overall, we achieved our internal goals about 50% of the time, with most slippage resulting from external dependencies beyond Techieonix's control.

I'd rate them 9/10 in project management. They were highly efficient, but we needed to ensure everything was properly prepared in advance. • Being an all-volunteers organization, we are constantly dealing with people joining and leaving, and thus it becomes very difficult to carry out medium-to-large-sized projects—especially in IT. The onboarding, coordination, offboarding, and knowledge transfer time and effort usually outweigh the actual effort volunteers can put in.
• We needed a site that would represent our foundation, accept donations, provide reports on humanitarian aid deliveries, and act as a knowledge base for displaced individuals. As there was a great deal of complexity in the project, it was impossible to manage with volunteers only.

We provided them with our existing simple HTML/CSS website, design mockups, and a GitHub repository with some boilerplate code. They then took full ownership completing the frontend layout, backend setup, and Strapi coding with very little input from our side.

Techieonix exceeded all our expectations in terms of speed, efficiency, and quality. The work completed within the given timeframe was outstanding. Their developer worked quite independently with little supervision, and still, the end product was exactly what we wanted. The web application functions like a charm, and the coding adheres to every industry standard. In a word—it was an excellent job.

Later, we built our platform on a cutting-edge stack: Node.js for the back-end, React for the web app, and React Native for mobile apps. Techieonix had thorough expertise in these technologies, which made it easy to have an efficient development team available.
