I’m a project manager at BeneSys. We provide insurance services for union members. Our headquarters are in Troy, Michigan, and we have several employees located in different offices across the US.

We needed a better partner to handle our accounting needs.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Tab Service Company creates, prints, mails, and files about 440,000 tax forms for our insureds. We do this during the first quarter of every year as required by the law. Moreover, their team gives us recommendations, provides support on any issues, and helps us with data quality. They also assist us in asking for abatements when needed.

We work with three people from their side: Matt (Director of Business Development), Meg (VP), and Anaya (Account Manager).

How did you come to work with Tab Service Company?

One of our previous employees found them through an online search. We actually interviewed about four different vendors and ended up choosing Tab Service Company because they seemed to be the best fit for the project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in September 2021, and our engagement is still ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve managed to send out about 440,000 tax forms accurately and on time, which is a really big deal for us.

How did Tab Service Company perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re very easy to work with — they always meet deadlines, respond fast, and communicate well. We usually interact through email and phone calls and have weekly meetings with them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

In comparison to all the vendors that I had worked with before, Tab Service Company is the most responsive. Whenever we have an issue or a question, they respond to us within the day.

Are there any areas they could improve on?

The system that they use does not have a good workflow for W-2 tax forms, and they should be more aware of some of the state deadlines. They are aware, and they are making improvements.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I definitely recommend working with them. If you do so, make sure to always communicate with them and treat them as a valued partner.

We needed someone who could provide 1099 forms to our members.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They were hosting the 1099 forms on their website for our members to access. They also helped us mail the physical copies of the forms to our members that were unable to access their site.

What is the team composition?

We mainly worked with Matt (Director of Business Development) and another member of their team.

How did you come to work with Tab Service Company?

I found them at Google, and one of my partners had a longstanding relationship with them — that made it easy to choose them. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together through September 2020-February 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We don’t have any metrics at the time, but I can say that working with them was great — it was a positive experience from start to finish.

How did Tab Service Company perform from a project management standpoint?

They were very responsive and communicative. We did all the communication through email, and we had meetings every week as we were getting into the heat of setting everything up. We then moved those meetings to every two weeks, and after that, we scheduled the meetings ad hoc to the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their customer service stands out the most — they were very collaborative and helpful. We had a small inconvenience with the traffic we sent to their site; it was too much for them to handle, and it was slow to respond. Even in that instance, they were communicating and troubleshooting with us in real-time.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I think they could’ve been more robust in terms of technology regarding how we moved forward in the project and how their site handled the influx of our members.

Any advice for potential customers?

Be clear with your expectations from the start of the relationship in terms of timing, testing, and the client volume you expect from your client base. That way they can prepare according to your needs.

I’m a controller at eNova, and our organization does medical communications and publications for speaker bureaus and meetings across the country.

What challenge were you trying to address with Tab Service Company?

Our previous provider only filed our federal forms for us. Since they didn’t file our state forms, Tab Service Company stepped in to file our 1099 forms for 2020 on behalf of our company. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, we thought that we needed to process 36 states which would’ve cost us a lot of money. However, Matthew (Director of Business Development) explained the requirements to us and told us we only needed to process 12 states. He showed us the chart of the requirements for each state.

He also walked us through what we needed to do on the forms so they could be uploaded to the state websites. We followed his recommendation, and he reviewed what we did in the file. Then, he sent us corrections the same day. A day after, he sent 1099 forms to the various states, and then we got confirmation that everything was uploaded and done on April 26, 2021.

There were also state identifications (IDs) that we needed to file. I knew our New Jersey ID, but I was unaware that we had one in Pennsylvania. Matthew just told us about it. He then called Pennsylvania for us and got the ID for us.

We only worked with Matthew.

How did you come to work with Tab Service Company?

Tab Service Company was one of the few companies who wanted to file the state forms for us because other companies were looking to file both federal and state forms. We contacted their company via email, and they immediately responded. They answered several questions for us, and they sent us a state requirement summary which my boss wanted us to do.

When I presented to my boss what Tab Service Company could do, she approved and requested a contract. Matthew was very amendable on working with us at a reduced rate per state. When we asked him for references, every single person we contacted gave an extremely positive reference about them. Previous companies that worked with them also mentioned their quick turnaround and how accurate they were.  

How much have you invested with them?

The final cost for the project was $2,100. This is exactly what we expected.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our partnership happened in April 2021. However, we’re going to work with them again. As a matter of fact, they would be working on our 1099 forms for 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They speedily finished everything and it was all done in a timely manner. From the minute we called them, they immediately assessed our situation, and they were extremely proactive. It would’ve taken months to get our Pennsylvania ID, but with the Tab Service Company’s support, we were able to get it quickly. 

How did Tab Service Company perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicated through email, phone calls, and Microsoft Teams. When we set up a call with them before the engagement started, they were very thorough. They explained what needed to be done, and they understood perfectly what we wanted to do. Our contract also stated that their turnaround would be 24–48 hours, but they finished everything in less than 24 hours.

Matthew was our main point of contact and we appreciated that he was very knowledgeable; he knew what each state needed. It was nice to have someone who could solve our problems quickly.  Overall, Tab Service Company did an excellent job. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Tab Service Company’s contributions to our company were well worth the money. We were impressed that they answered a lot of our queries even before we signed the contract. Overall, I’d highly recommend their services to others. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

There’s nothing negative that I could say about them. I asked my fellow internal member who helped with the process, and she felt the same way. They were incredible and, they were very particular. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Do not hesitate to ask any questions; they answer them quickly, and they’re easy to work with. They have a site to upload your particular files and it’s very user-friendly. 

When you get to the end of the year, and you have to file 1099 forms, you have to provide a lot of information including social security numbers and company numbers. They have that on their site and that makes them a step ahead of the process.

What challenge were you trying to address with Tab Service Company?

We needed to outsource our customers’ large printing jobs.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Tab Service Company worked with either a Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), a portal, or an API to integrate with our system. This allows our customers to use our software and connect with Tab to print calendars, newsletters, and other documents for their communities. Tab Service Company prints, ships, and distributes these documents to our clients.

What is the team composition?

From an administrative business side, our main point of contact is Matthew (Director of Business Development). I’m sure our engineering team has other points of contact.

How did you come to work with Tab Service Company?

We are located in Chicago and needed a regional printing company that we could integrate with from a technology standpoint. They needed to be open and flexible to accommodating something that was not like an off-the-shelf request. We have around 500 hundred customers that wanted to do customized printing through a portal.

We found Tab Service Company online and asked them if they were open to working on the project with us. Our product team and product manager vetted them and went on-site, and we went from there.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent over $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working around December 2018, and the partnership is ongoing. Our project started off as a one-time project. However, it has become an ongoing monthly service that has been growing a lot.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Tab Service Company has been great. Everything has been very smooth. We’ve never had a  problem with any of our orders with them aside from one instance when a customer uploaded a five-page newsletter instead of a four-page. We had to get a hold of the customer and figure out which page needed to be deleted. Once we handled that, the right file was uploaded, printed, packaged, and delivered as originally instructed.

Additionally, we landed on a significant contract with a client to roll out our printing suite to them, which is starting on May 1st; we’ll see how that goes.

How did Tab Service Company perform from a project management standpoint?

Tab Service Company has been very responsive, whether it is reaching out through email or over the phone. They handle any questions or anything that’s not up to our customer’s standards. I can pick up the phone and call them about products, sales, marketing, or any type of collaboration.

From a billing standpoint, invoices come to us in a timely manner. We’ve been working together for two years, and I haven’t heard any complaints from my organization. Our partnership with Tab Service Company is very successful.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Tab Service Company is willing to accommodate their customers' questions or requests. Sometimes, our customers have orders that come in late and have to be done outside operation hours, either over the weekend or during holidays.

The shipments need to be sent out through UPS or FedEx, and they always deliver. We’ve never had a complaint from any of our customers about calendars arriving late or newsletters arriving damaged. From a QC standpoint, rain or shine, it always gets there.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think there’s anything Tab Service Company could improve. We came to them with a custom request that might not have been within their normal course of services and solutions offered. However, they executed it, so I have no complaints.

I’m the supervisor of the accounts payable department at one of the largest hotel franchising companies.

What challenge were you trying to address with Tab Service Company?

With the IRS’ recent update regarding 1099-NEC forms, each individual state has to be filed separately. We hired Tab Service Company to help us file the 1099 forms with each individual state and federally.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Tab Service Company provided 1099 services to us. We uploaded an Excel file to their website with 1099 miscellaneous and 1099-NEC.

Matt (Director of Business Development) gave us an overview of their website, which was very user-friendly, and sent standard operating procedure (SOP) documents related to the sizing of quick cheat sheets. They electronically filed the 1099s with the IRS, mailed them to the recipients, and submitted the corrections needed to the IRS.

What is the team composition?

Our direct point of contact is Matt. He’s wonderful and very responsive.

How did you come to work with Tab Service Company?

One of the hotel companies we acquired had worked with them in the past. We explored other vendors, but we went with Tab Service Company because of their friendliness, pricing, and what they offered. My director and I had dealings and conversations with them, and they proved to be very professional in their approach.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent between $5,000–$10,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The partnership began in January 2021, and everything was completed before January 29, 2021. I’m not sure when the partnership began with the company we acquired. I believe the partnership is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We do business in approximately 50 states and 3–4 territories. Each individual state has to have separate filings for 1099-NECs forms. Tab Service Company took care of electronically filing the forms for all of the states that have 1099 NECs for. They also submitted the 1099-MISC on our behalf.

You really have to be a professional to know each state’s provisions and requirements, and they handled that very well.

How did Tab Service Company perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicate via email or phone, and they are very responsive.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They offered to file all corrections as needed on our behalf, whereas other potential providers didn’t offer that. Their professionalism has been great throughout the project. Overall, the partnership with Tab Service Company is very satisfactory.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only suggestion I have made to them is to include a field for an email address of the company sending out the 1099s.

Any advice for potential customers?

Pick up the phone, have a conversation with them, and keep in constant communication with Tab Service Company. They’re very flexible and will let you know if they’re able to do the work or not.

I’m the audit manager of information systems of a local county government established in Texas.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Tab Service Company?

The federal government provided funding to state and local governments to provide stimulus assistance to our constituents. The treasury service changed its guidelines and requirements through the course of giving that money out, which required the counties to issue 1099-G for any grant money that was going to be passed on. 

We didn’t have the resources to produce those 1099-G forms on top of our normal responsibilities, so we contracted Tab Service Company to provide that service for us.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Their services included printing the 1099-G and mailing them to the individuals who needed to receive them, along with filing with the IRS. We had 1,719 1099-G forms that needed to be processed, and they had a simple process to upload the files to a secure FTP site. We uploaded the files, and they sent us back results through that same site where we were able to download and review them. 

After that, we made a few changes and uploaded them back so they could print them with our authorization. In the end, they confirmed to us that the file was mailed, along with a PDF document of all the files that they sent out. We then were able to answer any questions from the grant recipients.

It was a minimal cost, but it was a good service because it took that off our plate.

We primarily communicated through email. We had a couple of phone calls, but email was the best way for us to communicate., That way, everyone was able to get back at their convenience.

They were responsive. Whenever we had a question or needed something, there was always a person from their team available for us.

I don’t think there’s anything that they can improve.

We’re a clean energy company that has some pretty complex legal entity structures and payment processes. I am the head of financial systems.

What challenge were you trying to address with Tab Service Company?

Our company has over 500 bank accounts and it has become very complex and burdensome to manage a high volume of work when it comes to 1099 processing, especially since we were understaffed. We’re working with Tab Service to help us streamline everything while maintaining flexibility and the ability to make adjustments on the fly. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

What Tab Service does for us is nothing too complex. Their main job is to take on the large volume 1099 processing work. We didn’t have the best data coming into our core financial system, so we ended up making a lot of adjustments, which would’ve been very time-consuming had their team not helped us. 

I received a demo of their web-based software from two of their members, who have stayed with our account to assist us. I uploaded all the data that they would need and the team has run the reports as well as printed, filed, and posted paperwork for the IRS.

We work with two people from Tab Service.

How did you come to work with Tab Service Company?

We looked at a couple of 1099 service providers and spent most of our time researching and getting quotes for the work we needed to get done. We then made a presentation to our committee and made a decision on which service we wanted to go with, and Tab Service won, hands down. Of the 3–4 providers that were on demo calls with us, they had the most competitive pricing and the most flexible software with an easy-to-use interface. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We got into this project last minute because of our time and resources, but it started around December 2020. We executed early in January 2021, and the work is still ongoing on a year-to-year renewal basis.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I can’t stress enough how much of a big win working with Tab Service has been. The deliverables are perfect and there have been no problems whatsoever. The team has saved us around 200–300 man-hours, making processing less strenuous on our own workforce. We didn’t have to do much after the initial upload because Tab Service took it and ran with it, which has definitely taken a headache off my plate.

How did Tab Service Company perform from a project management standpoint?

Even though the demo of their software was pretty self-explanatory, I did have a couple of questions that they were quick to address, which I appreciate. I didn’t require their assistance too much because the process of inputting, reviewing, and confirming the data through their interface was simple and straightforward. If I needed to communicate, though, I could call or email the team.

What did you find most impressive about them?

There are multiple factors that distinguish Tab Service from other providers. Their self-explanatory, web-based software has an easy-to-use interface, requires no installation, and is pretty secure. After we signed off on that, everything was kind of out of our hands. There’s no need to file or mail forms to the IRS. We’ve been able to dedicate the saved man-hours towards value-added work instead of busy work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I did ask them if they could file a different form under the 1099 processing, but they didn’t offer that service, which is fine since we didn’t have too many of these.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

It’s all about what you put before Tab Services. Make sure that you are sending up clean data, because if you do that, it’ll be a breeze afterwards.
