After a massive spike in workload due to an issue with a whitelabeling partner we needed to improve app performance quickly. Once the issue was resolved with the partner we first, we needed to improve our app performance overall and implement workload reducing design and architecture. Second, we needed to better address bots which may be visiting our site and using resources.

Key deliverables were a general overview of opportunities and concerns and then an action plan to immediately reduce workload and improve resiliency.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Our average daily workload has dropped by 45% which reduces our costs to operate the business
We also have removed our own bad signups from Yep by implementing Cloudflare's captcha and bot protection tools. This impact will also flow through to our users and stop them from getting fake leads.

They were very clear about actions and available. Work was outlined well and the team worked quickly.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Two things stood out:
Calmness - I was nervous, I bought the business and due to the workload spikes the costs to run it had more than tripled in a matter of days. They came in, were responsive, and helped me identify improvements after the bleeding was stopped.

Speed - Very quickly they onboarded to the app, understood data structures, identified opportunities and had an execution plan. The implementation was quick and I am seeing lasting results.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Optimal.dev could have done differently?

More frequent updates and alignment on actions. They use Trello to provide updates but that requires me to dive in. More active communication and ensuring I know what is being deployed before it is deployed would help me stay on top of their work.
