I wanted to work on a proof of concept (POC) for an application. The POC was a technical challenge; it’d be an operating system for digital natives. The main point was to have highly interconnected primitives like files, messages, notes, and tasks — kind of like how Google Suite does it, but even more connected than that. Since the prototype requires careful architecture, we also had some UX challenges. I needed to outsource the work to a partner that could handle it.

What was the scope of their involvement?

RedSoft Solutions work on functional application development and design. Since it’s a low-budget project, we initially asked to use a preexisting UI component library and a UX designer. The developers work with the UX designer to put together quick interfaces that are optimized for UX rather than UI. Basically, they design it all out and implement the pages with the componen library.

What is the team composition?

The day-to-day team consists of a backend engineer, a frontend engineer, a UX designer, and a project manager. The founder oversees the operation at a high level.

I tried to find a development shop to build the POC while working on other projects. I went on a frenzy on Clutch; I had a specific budget of $50,000, and I knew that the project would have a high number of hours. I went through nearly 1,000 companies' profiles on Clutch to categorize them in a spreadsheet to find one that matched the web technology stack I was looking for.

I created a brief that outlined all the different features and sections of the application and the outline of technologies I wanted to use, such as React and PostScript. I gave a higher ranking to companies that had better-looking sites, that knew the stack I was looking for, or that were in the right budget range. Then, I took the top 200 companies, emailed them with the brief, and asked them to get back to me with an estimate or questions.

RedSoft Solutions was the most responsive company from the 168 emails I received. They answered all of my requirements from the brief and the questions on my outreach email. Also, the founder had excellent communication skills and understood what I was trying to do. I got more offers, but I went with RedSoft Solutions because they fulfilled all my requirements.

How much have you invested with them?

So far, I’ve spent about $20,000, which is a little under half the agreed total because we’re halfway through the project. The fixed price is $50,000 — there’s been a down payment, and they send the invoice with the appropriate amount as we reach certain milestones. At the end, there’ll be a 20% user-acceptance fee.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working together in October 2021, and it’s an ongoing partnership.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’re still in the early stages. The prototype requires to reach all the milestones before sharing it and gathering insights on the hypothesis, so we don’t have any metrics at the moment.

However, the application development is going pretty smoothly, and I’m satisfied with the project’s progression and state of the app. Moreover, I think the hypothesis will be true. If it is, I’ll probably continue engaging with RedSoft Solutions to build it further and get more users onto the system.

How did RedSoft Solutions Pvt. Ltd. perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re great at project management. The brief I shared wasn’t as detailed as other companies wanted, but RedSoft Solutions was very flexible about it. They’ve been able to communicate daily, and we have weekly standup meetings. Whenever there are issues, they bring them up in real time, and someone’s always available for me, no matter the time. Overall, we have excellent communication.

They use a project management tool on their side, but I just have to worry about the feedback. The team treats me as a stakeholder, so I don’t have access to their tool. If they have tech or UX needs, we have discussions about it. The majority of our communication happens over Slack, and I’m happy in that sense. Since they’re in India in a different time zone, it’s hard to schedule phone calls, but messaging is pretty easy.

What did you find most impressive about them?

RedSoft Solutions truly understands what I’m looking for, and they’re able to communicate in the way I want, unlike the vast majority of vendors I contacted. I can’t recommend them enough for their communication skills. They’re definitely on top of everything, more than other companies.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have anything that they could improve upon. They stay on top of the application development process and are great communicators. Moreover, the team sticks to budget, and they made a reasonable adjustment when I asked for more aggressive automated tests.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Treat them as a partner. Many people tell offshore development shops what to do, but if you give them a little bit of space, they can provide a better service. Also, ask all your questions upfront; they’re good at answering them at the beginning of the engagement.

Being into Computer hardware to security systems there are lot of products and raw materials that we have in and out on daily basis. The CEO of Red Soft, Sanket is my college mate only. So approached him with the problem. He provided couple of options to solve with the cost involved with them. I finalized with the something that was fulfilling my need at the same time the one was cost effective

First of all entering all the products and materials by scanning their code and entering other details There were options to quickly add and remove the quantities to it. We used tags to mark where the items are placed in the warehouse and there was provision for that. We had few charts and table that gave me idea of status of the quantities with color coding. The products which are under shipment/delivery. The stock reaching upper/lower limit. Searching the products through various properties etc.

I was mostly having communication with Sanket and their Project manager Ronak. There must be programmers working under them but that was not so much of my concern as I am not from programming background.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Before buying this software I tried couple of time to manage it with excel but it was quite tough for me do custom things. Plus considering the staff and their background, I was looking for something that is easy to use. The software definitely reduced the time of managing those products. Manually calculating. And the main thing I have clear picture or in what status the products are in what quantity. Previously I had to just assume and had compromise here and there when the qty mismatch.

I was discussing with them on call. They shared a trello board for me to confirm the tasks and design. Other than that we had demo meeting on zoom.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Knowing the status the of the products on a single screen was the best part for me. Compared to our previous Excel sheet, their work is quite easy for me to ask anyone to work on it.

One of the members of our core team developed the Android app that will make our rider's journey enjoyable. We struggled to find the backend team. We found them by googling. We had a call with their CEO, Sanket Patel. We put the requirement to have a skilled team that can entirely handle our backend so that we keep focus on rolling the idea quicker. Sanket quickly gathered the team with CTO and senior developers, we had chat with them. They suggested a convincing approach to requirements and something that matches our startup pace as well and we decided to go with them.

The project was to handle the backend of our in-ride tablet app. They were responsible to manage the rides, their info, and the main crucial part was to design the algorithm that decides which campaigns to run on the run-time.

It was a complex part because at the run-time based on the car's current location we were required to decide the ads in the app. Campaigners were allowed to set time preference, frequency, etc which also required to take care of in addition to location. We went fixed price with them. We divided the entire requirement into milestones and released the amount as per completion.

One senior full-stack developer, with a Technical lead to suggest us the architecture and any tech difficulties. Plus, a PM to have brainstorming and other overall planning.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The campaign creation and ad-serving which we were assuming to be the toughest and we were not very sure how to handle technically. We gave them parameters and ideas they came up with the technical solutions. We tested it and it works exactly the way we want. It's also part of our revenue model. And we are hoping this will take us to next level.

It was quite easy. The PM was approachable even though it was not a huge project. Our tech guy was directly having a call with their developers so there wasn't a communication gap as such. We like their idea of designing first and writing the points of meetings to not miss anything or create any confusion later on.

Working for our success instead of just a transactional business relationship. Our project was not so big for them but the senior members stood to make it successful. They followed the process that was best suited to us. And above all the work was exceptional. And it's had to find all this combo everywhere, I can especially say that because we had an engagement with other teams as well previously.

There isn't major as such. We found the process a little strict like having designs first and then development. But that also makes sense to have requirements in place to be clear with the requirement.

They’ve developed tools based on my ideas and requirements. We always discuss how we should go about the projects together. So far, they’ve created an office tool that takes care of the employee reimbursements. That has been a much-needed solution because it used to be done manually. 

Other solutions they’ve provided involved capturing data and providing it to the venues. They’ve also built apps where they had to integrate two different sections. For example, they integrated a document management system with third-party software using a cloud service. We use MySQL and Firebase. We also use Google-based services like Google Studio for visualization.

We needed an experienced team to create the frontend of our applications and websites. Our team had the concept to create a productivity tool for game developers to help them stay accountable but didn’t have the in-house skills to create the solution.

We were pretty skeptical of hiring a third-party to do the job for us. Luckily, RedSoft Solutions Pvt. Ltd. is spot on in everything when it comes to deadlines and schedules. They were pretty understanding about the scope and requirements of the project; both in terms of finances and deadlines. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to do this job for us.

RedSoft Solutions Pvt. Ltd. initially assigned a project manager to our project. They were responsible for bridging the gap and making sure the conversation was smooth and thorough between us and the team. There’s another project manager who’s always in touch with us. We work with them on a weekly milestone basis that was extended to bimonthly milestones. We track the milestones on Basecamp, and it’s fairly easy.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re committed to working and making sure the milestone deadlines are met no matter the cost. We rarely had any issues where they missed milestones. When there was a particular issue with the project, they were ready to solve it outside work hours.

No, I can’t think of anything negative that impacted the business or milestones.

Make sure that whatever project you’re working on is carefully scoped out in a project management tool and discussed with them so both parties understand what the scope is. This way they can easily follow the milestone and agile structure.

I gave them a detailed project briefing at the beginning of the project. They made some recommended tweaks and changes. Then they proceeded with the development. Their team took care of everything except for the actual graphic and UX design. 

The backend API was done in C-Sharp, and the frontend was done through Angular. I think they used Firebase as well. Their work was also integrated with mobile phone GPS, camera, and Bluetooth.

We used Trello extensively to plan sprints of work and keep track of issues that I reported. I’m not sure if they used another software internally.

Predicting the timelines can be difficult, so I sympathize with them. That was a struggle we ran into, especially because they’re a small company.

I have no reservations recommending them for a project similar to mine. It wasn’t a simple project, but they did a very good job. I trust their team to guide their customers in the right direction.

I searched for many resources in Upwork. In comparison to others, I found Sanket to very responsive and professional. He had an excellent track record and this was the key deciding factor.

Technologies included ReactJS, Firebase, Vercel & Heroku. The scope included building the custom app using React and integrating with Firebase Serverless Functions for authentication and db access. The scope included developing the React App by augmenting an existing React boilerplate. This required some pre-work to understand the boilerplate's code & framework, which is not easy.

We had occasional phone calls to discuss scope items. At all other times, we communicated via email. I found the team to be very responsive. They accommodated many impromptu change requests from my side and quickly notified me of any technical issues requiring re-planning. All scope items were implemented to schedule.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The team implemented code to best practises, in a way where the App could continuously evolve. They made sure to not implement any tactical code, which would require refactoring for future requirements. High kudos for this effort.

Nothing from my side. I was very happy with everything.
