The client is planning to launch their app near the end of 2022, and so far, they’re pleased with the quality of Old.St Labs’ bug-free deliverables. Old.St Labs’s timely daily communication, despite time zone differences, and weekly meetings via Google Meet have facilitated an efficient partnership.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO of a marketing and booking platform that handles everything to do with making a record and getting people booked in a recording studio.

What challenge were you trying to address with Old.St Labs?

We were looking to outsource software development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Old.St Labs helped us with cross-platform mobile application development. Their team used the mock-up wireframes we provided to inform their design and development.

Once users download the app, they can continue using it as a guest or create a profile. Then, they can find the service they need, like recording studios, musicians, and sound engineers, and book them through the app; we have a payment system integrated into the platform.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with a project manager and several developers.

How did you come to work with Old.St Labs?

We were looking at several companies, but one of the founders of Old.St Labs was an old school friend of one of our founders. So, we linked up.

How much have you invested with them?

Altogether, their services cost around $80,000, but $20,000 was in goodwill; we paid a little under $60,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing partnership began in December 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app hasn’t launched yet — we plan to launch closer to the end of 2022. The fact that the app works and the bugs have been fixed is fantastic.

How did Old.St Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

Old.St Labs has met our deadlines. Typically, we exchange emails and Slack messages; their team responds within an hour. We’ve had weekly meetings with their development team on Google Meet. Occasionally, we had to be on calls at odd hours because each team was in a different time zone.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Old.St Labs’ team is efficient and friendly. Their team has excellent customer service and makes sure all of our needs are met. I appreciated that they’ve been kind enough to even donate their time to ensure our project got to where we needed it to be.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything for them to improve. I’m astounded by how well everything is handled.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You should have all your ducks in a row before starting the partnership because Old.St Labs requires quite a bit of information upfront. Dedicate a teammate to answering the questions Old.St Labs’ team will ask — a lot of work goes into developing mobile apps, and their team needs guidance to ensure they deliver what you need.
