Modall helped design and build the entire HuddleBooks platform from the ground up. A financial management and transparency SaaS app built specifically for minor hockey teams. I shared with them the concept but they owned product design and full-stack engineering.
The scope covered end-to-end product development: UX and product design, the full-stack web application, a secure read-only bank integration via Plaid, a mobile experience, treasurer and parent-facing reporting, and visibility to the hockey association board. Beyond the initial build, they've worked with me through an iterative stabilization phase, turning around weekly bug lists and stress-test findings to get the product beta-ready. We ran a weekly call plus an ongoing Slack channel.
Key Deliverables: Full-stack web application: the core HuddleBooks platform, architected for volunteer-run hockey teams managing $50K to $75K seasonal budgets.
Plaid bank integration: a secure, read-only daily sync that pulls the team's bank transactions into the platform automatically, with no ability to move or touch funds.
Dual-approval expense workflow: every expense requires two authorized approvers, and any unapproved transaction is flagged within 24 hours of hitting the bank.

Concept to beta-ready product: Modall took HuddleBooks from an idea to a fully functional, beta-ready platform, not a prototype or clickable mockup.
The complete feature set shipped: dual-approval workflows, automatic bank reconciliation, the parent transparency dashboard, one-click reporting, and the mobile experience.
Live bank integration: the Plaid integration is built and syncing team bank transactions daily, which is the technical core of the product and the hardest part to get right.
Demo-ready quality that's winning prospects: the build reached a polish level where I can put it in front of real association decision-makers and record interactive product walkthroughs for prospects. That directly enabled the sales pipeline.
First signed founding partner secured: local minor hockey club (8 AAA teams) signed on as our first founding partner, validating that the product is credible enough for a real organization to commit.
Active pipeline: five additional clubs are currently in active conversations, and we've had interest from larger associations in Ontario.

When I ran weekend stress tests and sent over bug lists, they triaged and turned fixes around quickly, often within the same day, which kept momentum high heading into beta.
What stood out most was how responsive and invested they were. They treated HuddleBooks like their own product, not just a contract to fulfil. They were flexible when priorities shifted, proactive about flagging technical trade-offs, and quick to adapt as the product evolved. Communication was clear, honest, and easy throughout, which matters a lot when you're a first time solo founder relying on your dev team to move fast.
