Mo Works was hired to develop an app for a social media platform within four months.

Please describe your company and your position there.

I am the Director of a tech start up developing a social media platform.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Mo Works, and what were your goals?

We Hired Mo Works to build/develop our App. Our goals were to build and develop the app with the goal of launching in the estimated time of 4 months. What we also required was the guidance and technical expertise of Mo works to develop a quality product in that time frame, however, it was over a year and we still did not receive a finished product!!! We received nothing for all the money we spent!!!

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We were referred to Mo Works by a friend of his.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

We had originally supplied Mo Works with all the figma files/design files and functions list. What we required was a discovery phase to go through what was missing as we were not developers. We had regular meetings with their project manager to revise our designs, which did not end up being revised into a test app. We discussed possibly what was missing! There was No Discovery phase, and we had limited contact with Mo Works throughout the project!!

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

A project manager was assigned to be our main point of contact throughout the project. Additionally, I mostly interacted with him via zoom and did not liaise with anyone else, we were told there were 3 developers, only to find out there was only one.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We Paid over $80,000 and basically got nothing in return as Mo Works could not deliver what we required which was a quality app! There was no discovery phase, Mo Works did not have the skill set in UI design nor the skillset in the development of Mobile Apps. We invested money for over a year of service and walked away with nothing at all. There was just a big lesson on what to look out for when choosing a development company!!

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

We had regular meetings via zoom with the project manager, however, nothing was ever to our satisfaction and the outcomes of the meetings were never changed to what we desired.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Nothing!!

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I think what I would have done differently was to research Mo Works more thoroughly. As a business might look great on the outside but if I did proper research I would have found that Mo Works did not specialize in mobile App Development or UI Designs. As you only have to look at Mo works reviews on clutch to see this, I would not recommend Mo Works to anyone as it was a very costly lesson as we had to hire individuals to do all their work, which has ultimately cost our company hundreds of thousands of Dollars in lost production.

We have detailed notes of our many interactions with your company about this project. Your company came to us with a project designed by another great agency. We improved and then further developed the original project with the approval of your CEO at the time. He was the second CEO we had dealt with in the short time since you approached us. Not long after, you replaced the second CEO. And then your 3rd CEO wanted to change things, and we were happy to address his feedback, but we made clear to him and to you that it included new items that were out of scope and would require cost and timing variations. Then you fired him so we needed to deal with a 4th CEO within a period of less than 12 months.

Overall, changing 4 CEO’s, not having a brand, and keeping changing your mind, vision and approvals have led to this. You have refused to pay outstanding fees for work we performed but still expected us to do work on changes that we have repeatedly told you are out of scope. Changes come at a cost and the timeline is not open, unfortunately.
