They listened attentively and collected all the required information our wants, needs, and wishes. We have got a request for a project where a good client wanted to develop a mobile application from the ground up. As we are only doing design, accordingly we were committed to creating visuals (wireframes and mockups) and for the development side we invited our partners MetaProject as we knew these guys are professionals at Native development.

We’ve investigated their works, and portfolios, including multiple positive feedbacks, and decided to reach out to them.

We had several meetings to discuss the scope and business model of the app, including its functionalities and how to connect the visual part with its application and admin panel.

Throughout time, we maintained transparent communication together with the client to add more functionalities and third-party integration that was very complex. The best part is that Metaproject always had solutions for any problems/obstacles, which made the development of the app very smooth.

There was a team of front-end and back-end developers with a project manager.

They’ve left a really good impression of a professional and super-friendly team. All scope of work was clearly organized, and together we coordinated our responsibilities in order to deliver the app on time and with a high standard.

Their level of commitment and dedication to the success of the overall effort is their most impressive attribute. It is easy to get caught up in the nuances of the code or a specific feature. Our relationship is really built on a commitment to collective success in the long run and I think that is what is really important.

We have been working with Alexey for years, and for a complicated project, Alexey and his team are the best choice for us among the designer we know.

The team did extensive research on the competitor and interviewed the customer. Afterward, they provided a mind map of the concept, and after we agreed to the idea, they offered a wireframe to show us the flow. Once the flow and wireframe are confirmed, they update us daily on Figma. As they design, we could provide them with early feedback to align our idea. When the prototype is ready, we collect feedback from our customers before we continue with the design process.

The project was complicated as there were multiple payment options mixed with virtual and in-person classes. The design works, allowing the payment and flow to be seamless.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The project manager was not easy and did not provide us with any updates. When Alexey took over from the project manager, all communication was perfect, with frequent updates.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They simplify the difficult idea and flow to be easy for the user and Alexey always willing to go the extra mile

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

The project manager assigned to us was not responsive, but Alexey is always the best person to work with, that will solve the communication issue.

The team was working on functionality to keep the existing app version going as well as implementing new version features targeted at a different market.

We discussed the hiring needs with our customer and formed a list of technical requirements for desired mobile developer candidates. Then we started a search for developers who would match the expected skillset. The selection process consisted of a CV screening, a pre-interview meeting where we would check soft skills and the level of English, and a tech interview with a customer.

MetaProject Android developer helped speed up the development process prior to the new app version release.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow was very effective. From day one, the work protocol was established, so that everyone could understand the expectations in terms of time tracking, commits, team meetings etc. The work protocol was followed properly. There was also constant communication in place.

I really enjoyed the communication part. It was quick and effective despite the fact that we collaborated remotely. All feedback shared was discussed and implemented shortly.

I hired MetaProject to create a selection of small party games apps for iOS and Android, including popular games like Truth or Dare & I Have Never but also some brand new card games. I wanted these to be Multiplatform, beautiful but also to have essential social features too.

I found MetaProject online while looking for a studio to help with this project, they were shortlisted along with another 2 companies but after speaking to each of them MetaProject came out on top. This was mainly due to their technical expertise but also the high quality of their previous projects.

I had many conversations with MetaProject before starting the project, they immediately understood the required steps and I could tell we shared the same vision. Within 3 weeks they had sent over wireframes and some initial concepts. Around 1 month later I had seen and approved final designs and I had an initial version of some of the apps on my device.

The apps were built using native Swift & Kotlin and the backend was built using Python and Django. Once development was complete, the team fully tested the final products and we released a TestFlight to friends and family.

Around 6 employees were assigned to this project including a project manager, iOS engineer, Android engineer, Backend engineer, UI designers and a QA tester.

We released the apps as soon as they were finished and I was really pleased with the reception, many of the apps were acquired within a few months.

My contacts at MetaProject were some of the best communicators I've worked with. I was kept informed through every step of the project and someone was always available to answer my questions. We mainly communicated over Slack and Email but we also used Zoom to talk about more intense project details.

Everything was delivered within the timelines given and with high standards.

Compared to other studios I've worked with MetaProject aren't just specialists in one particular area, but can really follow a project through from conception to completion and to an incredible standard.

No, I thoroughly enjoyed working with MetaProject and have been working with them recently on more projects I'm looking forward to releasing.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm a lawyer and owner of legal company in Odesa, Ukraine. First we decided to develop a product for our own use. That's when we've started to work with Alexey and MetaProject. The product was ERP system, mobile app, that helps manage law practice. Most interesting feature was integration with government's API that allows you to receive updates on hearing dates, solutions, etc. in the most convenient way.

Later we've decided to continue development and release public version for Ukrainian lawyers. It was successful, without big marketing efforts, we've had somewhere around 12k users on all platforms, while in Ukraine there're around 60k lawyers. Means, around 10% of all lawyers in our country tried our product.

Based on that background, we've founded separate LLC called 'Legal Tech', found investor and with MetaProject developed web-version of the service and now preparing expansion on the markets of Canada and other Europe countries.

My role is CEO of the startup. We don't have developers on board, only marketing and client-relationship. And MetaProject is our development vendor.

The challenge was to design and develop mobile apps for both iOS and Android, and later web-version for our ERP startup. MetaProject covers every aspect of development and project support.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I can think of a few factors that made us to chose MetaProject:

• They are a local company in the same city as we are;
• They are known for non-standard solutions. Many companies could deliver landing pages or WordPress eCommerce, but our project required a way more complex approach;
• High level of involvement. They listen, sometimes argue, and suggest better options based on their experience. And seems like really cares about the product.

First, we came up with our version of Tech Specs and had a few meetings to decide how we will work and clarify things. Then they worked on design mockups for some time and some of the backend. Once the first bunch of mockups were approved, they started to work on mobile apps. MVP version for our use was ready in around 6 months.

Then we decided to add more functions and also to polish bugs. That took us around another 3 months to implement. Later we started to work with the app ourselves and made a little pause in development. Once we realized the potential of the project, we decided to add more functionality for commercial use, like payment gateways, subscription logic, etc.

Almost simultaneously we've started to work on the web version. And later - on the global international version. I can't remember the exact sequencing of functions. But I guess that first, it was about cases and date of hearing, integration with government APIs - that's core functionality. Authorization and user management with the permission/restriction system and complex company hierarchy setups - was the other hard part of the project.

Then the task management for cases, chat inside the tasks, push-notification with various scenarios and deep links. Later - payment gateway for apple and google (first), then for wayforpay and stripe. And web version. I've asked, technology is Swift for iOS, RxJava for Android, backend on PHP Laravel.

I interacted with project manager and later I wanted to be more involved with all the team and started to communicate with everyone on weekly basis.

As mentioned previously, we had a successful launch. Our marketing effort was minimal, around 1k on facebook ads, and we gained around 5k users on the first day. Overall we have around 12k users which are 10% of all lawyers in Ukraine (our main and only target audience).

We mostly communicated over Telegram app. At first phase we had 2 weeks sprints meetings. Sometime in person, sometime via calls. Later we agreed to switch to 1 week meetings instead, because I wanted to be more involved. I had access to their management tool - ClickUp. Deadlines for sprints not always were met, and not always I was warned about it, but I don't consider it as a big problem, since I'm happy with the final result and we performed a lot of changes and additions on the go.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Involvement, expertise and patience. Really liked their design. And overall approach of creating non-standard solution. I've heard 'it's impossible to implement' from other companies, but in the end MetaProject made it.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I wasn't too happy with QA work on first stage. Even when MVP was done there were plenty of bugs left to fix. They all were fixed in the end, but I guess they miscalculated that time they need for polishing result.
